Fashion Flashback: The Memorable Short Dress & Pants Looks of the Golden Globes!

While I’m a major fan of the glorious ballgown on a red carpet, I’m always fascinated to study the non-traditional choices, which are becoming more & more the norm, including short dresses & pants / jumpsuits / tuxedos on female attendees. There are so many lists & galleries on social media & the internet recalling the best Golden Globe looks of all time, as well as the most extreme. However, let’s take some time to review the non-traditional, which are likely to appear on tonight’s red carpet for the highly-anticipated return of the controversial awards ceremony.

From mini to midi dresses, the red carpet is no stranger to short designs with some sparkle, structure, or volume, especially when making an elegant, playful style statement:

Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, & Joey King in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Wiig, Katharine McPhee, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Julianna Margulies, Heidi Klum, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Millie Bobby Brown, Elisabeth Moss, Halle Berry, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.

Pants looks come in all forms, on a deconstructed tuxedo, jumpsuit, & suit, imitating the dress look, but also playing with cut-outs, adornments, separates, & proportions. Black is the most popular option with a pants look, as seen below:

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Susan Kelechi Watson, & Laura Dern in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jennifer Aniston & Kyra Sedgwick in pants at the Golden Globes.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Taylor Schilling, Kathryn Hahn, Amy Poehler, & Octavia Spencer in pants at the Golden Globes.
Claire Foy, Lorde, Debra Messing, & Alison Brie in pants at the Golden Globes.
Rita Morena, Portia de Rossie, Judy Greer, & Evan Rachel Wood in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jeannie Mai, Jane Fonda, Elsie Fisher, & Sibley Scoles in pants at the Golden Globes.
Emma Watson in pants at the Golden Globes.
Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, & Alexis Bledel in pants at the Golden Globes.

Who wore your favorite skirt look? Do you think a mini dress is appropriate for such an event? What about the jumpsuits & tuxedos? Who pulled it off the best, in your opinion? Stay tuned for more Golden Globes updates to catch up on all the latest fashion & highlights from the night! For today’s fashion flashback, I could go on & on about Emma’s style & films, especially since La La Land ranks highly in my opinion; however, taking a moment to examine her gorgeous separates looks, pantsuits, jumpsuits, jeans outfits, & more provide plenty of style inspiration for the upcoming holiday season!

Cover Craze: Emma Stone for Marie Claire’s September Issue!

I. Love. Emma. Stone. My nose is glued to the screen whenever Emma Stone is promoting a film & has countless red carpet premieres to attend. She’s not only an iconic fashion chameleon, but her all-around girl-next-door goofball vibes makes me feel like we really could be best friends. I’m obsessed with her sense of style & will almost always vote her best dressed, no matter the competition. So, when it came to seeking out what she’s been up to, I was super excited that she was Marie Claire’s September cover star. Emma’s currently promoting her new film, Battle of the Sexes, all about tennis-legend Billie Jean King in 1973 & co-starring Steve Carrell, Emma’s Crazy, Stupid Love on-screen dad, who plays her rival, Bobby Riggs.

The interview for Marie Claire is conducted by funny lady Sarah Silverman, who has a girl crush on Emma that reads quite equal to mine, where Emma discusses the power each of our voices have in times of controversy & political uprising, but also the challenges that the Oscar-winning actress (for of course, La La Land) faced when becoming Billie Jean King for the new film.

The photo shoot (led by Greg Kadel) includes Emma wearing some gorgeous pieces from Dior, Chanel, Valentino, Bulgari, to name a few!

Battle of the Sexes premieres on September 22nd, just in time to kick of awards season & you can be sure that I’ll be on the lookout for Emma’s highly anticipated press tour fashion!

Are you going to see Emma Stone’s new film? Do you like the styling of her Marie Claire cover shoot? Which stars do you love to see on magazines? Happy Styling!

Splurge of Save… On Light Blue Suede Ankle Strap Sandals for Spring!

My goal, as of late, when it comes to my everyday outfits and sharing style tips on Style Darling Daily, is try something new. This includes combinations of separates that I hadn’t thought of previously, as well as only investing in special new additions that not only stand apart from other items I already own, but will also serve multiple purposes. I’ve realized that in the past, I’ve sought out dresses, shoes, & more that thrill me in the moment to add to my wardrobe, without considering their need in the long run. In order to better maintain my closet & finances, I’m being much more careful about how I approach styling.

With that, spring is underway & I’m trying to break away from my usual all-black or only black & white routine. Spring is all about soft, light colors, embracing pastels & brighter hues like nobody’s business. When I was recently perusing through my daily barrage of emails from my favorite stores, I saw a shoe trend that I just couldn’t stop thinking about. Normally, I’m not a trend chaser, sticking to what’s classic & works for my specific body type & daily needs. Ankle strap sandals have always been a little tricky. I haven’t been able to find a comfortable pair in recent years, though I’ve written much about the sleek & delicate style (here), but when I saw that so many different designers & retailers were pitching light blue suede ankle strap sandals for spring, my mind was racing with all the styling possibilities—with dresses, pencil skirts, cropped jeans, & so many more!

It doesn’t hurt to have a little celebirty inspiration when it comes to this particular shoe style, showing all the different colors & ways to wear them. This includes German starlet Diane Kruger, supermodel Kendall Jenner, Oscar-winner Emma Stone, blogger / actress Ashley MadekweOrange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling, & pop star Rihanna

Watch This Style: The Most Stylish Films of Awards Season & 2017!

There’s so much holiday talk in the air, but it’s also another season! All the best & most highly-anticipated films are about to hit theaters for awards season, which means that some of today’s most in-demand actresses are making jaw-dropping red carpet appearances, speaking at press events, & doing the talk show rounds, inspiring viewers with their class, intelligence, talent, & style. Aside from the excitement of seeing who is wearing what, the fashion in these films is definitely worth talking about. I was recently talking to some writer friends about how I haven’t been very enthusiastic about movies lately, especially since there’s so much amazing television on these days, but my mind is changed. I’m gushing over the visual candy that is La La Land, the retro elegance in Rules Don’t Apply & Jackie, as well as the high fashion stakes set in Miss Sloane & Nocturnal Animals (Directed by acclaimed designer Tom Ford).

The variety of inspiration comes from period pieces, high fashion cinema, & futuristic sci-fi vibes, which means that anything is possible when it comes to not only escaping into the big screen, but also into your wardrobe’s potential. After tallying up the riveting trailers I’ve been seeing on television lately & replaying some favorites on YouTube, here are just 11 of the best, starring the stylish likes of Marion Cotillard, Emma Watson, Hailee Steinfeld, Scarlett JohanssonTaraji P. Runway Rundown: Valentino’s Spring 2015 Couture Collection from Paris!

Valentino Spring 2015 Couture Collection.

When it comes to romance, Valentino‘s Spring 2015 Couture collection embodied the theme with inspiration from literature & art, including excerpts from Shakespeare & Dante, as well as paintings by Chagall. The evidence is clear in corseted dresses, tapestry materials, the flow & whimsy of chiffon, saturated neutrals, floral appliques, & caftan shapes. Clearly the Valentino woman is searching for love, adventure, truth, & beauty. The collection comes just in time for this weekend’s Grammy Awards, as well as the Oscars at the end of the month, with plenty of red carpet inspiration for loyal celebrities of the brand to pursue, including Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman, & Zoe Saldana.

Which look is your favorite from the collection? Who do you think would look gorgeous in any of these dresses? Do you like Valentino’s vision for romance on the runway? Accessories Access: Front to Back Earrings & Ear Cuffs, Inspired by Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o, & More!

One of the biggest jewelry trends to hit the red carpet, runway, & stores including dazzling ear cuffs & sophisticated front to back earrings. I’m crazy for earrings, especially because I have five piercings in each ear, but for those who don’t dare to go under the gun, an ear cuff is the perfect solution. Also, when a stud needs a little something extra, a front to back earring is both delicate & trendy.

Ear cuffs have been spotted & ogled on the red carpet as recently as this year’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards & last year’s Met Gala. From the looks of Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence, supermodel Cara Delevingne, America’s sweetheart Emma Stone, & British beauty Keira Knightley, this look is here to stay.

Jennifer Lawrence, Cara Delevingne, Emma Stone, & Keira Knightley.

Also, when it comes to front to back earrings, Hollywood’s chicest celebrities wear them for day & evening occasions. This includes style icon Sarah Jessica Parker, actress Lupita Nyong’o, former House of Cards star Kate Mara, & red carpet regular, Emma Watson.

Both jewelry trends can be obtained & styled to your heart’s content, especially for a budget shopper. Not only do they serve a date night outfit, but they can instantly dress up a daytime look with details like pearls, rhinestones, flowers & leaves, spikes, & flirty shapes.
