Fashion Flashback: The Memorable Short Dress & Pants Looks of the Golden Globes!

While I’m a major fan of the glorious ballgown on a red carpet, I’m always fascinated to study the non-traditional choices, which are becoming more & more the norm, including short dresses & pants / jumpsuits / tuxedos on female attendees. There are so many lists & galleries on social media & the internet recalling the best Golden Globe looks of all time, as well as the most extreme. However, let’s take some time to review the non-traditional, which are likely to appear on tonight’s red carpet for the highly-anticipated return of the controversial awards ceremony.

From mini to midi dresses, the red carpet is no stranger to short designs with some sparkle, structure, or volume, especially when making an elegant, playful style statement:

Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, & Joey King in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Wiig, Katharine McPhee, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Julianna Margulies, Heidi Klum, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Millie Bobby Brown, Elisabeth Moss, Halle Berry, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.

Pants looks come in all forms, on a deconstructed tuxedo, jumpsuit, & suit, imitating the dress look, but also playing with cut-outs, adornments, separates, & proportions. Black is the most popular option with a pants look, as seen below:

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Susan Kelechi Watson, & Laura Dern in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jennifer Aniston & Kyra Sedgwick in pants at the Golden Globes.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Taylor Schilling, Kathryn Hahn, Amy Poehler, & Octavia Spencer in pants at the Golden Globes.
Claire Foy, Lorde, Debra Messing, & Alison Brie in pants at the Golden Globes.
Rita Morena, Portia de Rossie, Judy Greer, & Evan Rachel Wood in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jeannie Mai, Jane Fonda, Elsie Fisher, & Sibley Scoles in pants at the Golden Globes.
Emma Watson in pants at the Golden Globes.
Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, & Alexis Bledel in pants at the Golden Globes.

Who wore your favorite skirt look? Do you think a mini dress is appropriate for such an event? What about the jumpsuits & tuxedos? Who pulled it off the best, in your opinion? Stay tuned for more Golden Globes updates to catch up on all the latest fashion & highlights from the night! Fashion Flashback: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Gowns for her 50th Birthday!

Gwyneth Paltrow had been an it-girl since the 90s in her breakout roles in Seven & Emma, later earning an Academy Award for Shakespeare in Love. The minimalist style star has dominated the red carpet for decades, embracing neutral hues, sleek silhouettes, & of course, donning shades of pink. More recently, the actress & lifestyle guru has explored more flowy shapes, colors & patterns, as well as cut-outs & versions of the naked dress!

Today marks Gwyneth’s 50th birthday, which seems crazy, but makes sense since the goop founder & mother of two is just getting better with age. Take a look at the gallery below of Gwyneth best gown moments on the red carpet & for other special occasions:

Watch This Style: Zac Posen’s ‘House of Z’ Documentary Trailer!

Summer is a great time for fashion, especially when it comes to scoping out what our favorite celebrities are wearing in their street style on vacation & for blockbuster movie premieres on the red carpet. It’s August & we’re basking in the post-Met Gala glow of the finest in fashion, preparing for Fashion Week in September, all for the harried & sparkly zen that is keeping up with awards season. One name among all the frenzy that is constantly impressing in the world of fashion is designer Zac Posen.

In the newest trailer for the fashion documentary House of Z, fashion lovers catch a glimpse of Posen’s career triumphs, devastating struggles, & return to fame. There’s nothing I love more than a fashion doc, which is why I’m super excited to learn more about Posen’s creative process & journey. The Project Runway judge / creative director of Brooks Brothers is an unstoppable force whose story teaches viewers that if you have a dream, you must go on & continue creating.

In the video below during an interview with BUILD Series, Posen discusses the documentary’s development, his familial strain, his favorite red carpet moments, & how the film served as therapy when revisiting his past troubles in the industry.

Zac Posen’s impact on the red carpet continues to make waves, especially on celebrities like Heidi Klum, Claire Danes, Reese Witherspoon, Rihanna, Gwyneth Paltrow, January Jones, Eva Longoria, Lena Dunham, Amanda Seyfried, & Sofia Vergara

House of Z premieres on Vogue.com on September 6th. I know I’ll be watching! What is your favorite Zac Posen red carpet moment? Are you going to watch the fashion documentary? How do you express your creativity? Happy Styling!

07/18/2016 Darling of the Day: Gwyneth Paltrow in Head-To-Toe Blush!

While summer (for me) is all about a good dress & sandals, I’ve been thinking a whole lot about summer outfits that go beyond the comfy Americana look of a tank & cut-off shorts (an ensemble that never really suited my shape to begin with). However, in an effort to fill my brain with as much fashion as possible (an excellent escape plan for when life is throwing a lot of heartache your way), I’m a little obsessed with Gwyneth Paltrow‘s head-to-toe blush outfit in a blouse & pants by Michael Kors with Chloe Gosselin sandals (shop similar here). The actress & goop entrepreneur made a recent appearance to promote her organic Juice Beauty collection while in Toronto, looking effortless & chic in the pastel hue with minimal jewelry.

Gwyneth Paltrow in a blush silk bow blouse & skinny pants by Michael Kors Collection with pink croc Chloe Gosselin sandals at a Juice Beauty by goop event in Toronto.Usually when I dress in a monochromatic outfit, it’s all-black, easy enough for any shape to pull off since pastels aren’t always figure friendly for the curvier shopper. However, I’m impressed to see so many blush options out there, while keeping a budget in mind, for misses, plus, or petites separates to inspire Gwyneth’s look for when you’re at the office, headed to brunch with family, or a day time party event. Wearing blush as a base color also works for a multitude of accessories options, such as metallics like rose gold, gold, & silver. Also, blush is a luxe foundation for other colors & prints to pop against.

09/22/2015 Darling of the Day: Gwyenth Paltrow’s Monique Lhuillier-Inspired Look for Less!

Gwyneth Paltrow is always one to watch when it comes to celebrity style, never failing to impress since she made her red carpet mark back in the 90s. Lately, the actress has been turning heads with hints of skin, wearing bold head-to-toe monochromatic looks, & she continues to set trends for future Style Darlings. During her appearance at The Broad Museum Black Tie Dinner, she choose a modern take on an evening look with a boxy blouse & wide leg pants, both by designer Monique Lhuillier, & styled her ensemble with chandelier earrings by Norman Silverman & black pumps by Brian Atwood (which I would love to see, but I couldn’t find the pic!).

Red Carpet Review: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Press Tour Couldn’t Be More Stylish!

Gwyneth Paltrow has been topping the best dressed lists for ages now & even on the cusp of a wild promotional tour for her latest film, Iron Man 3, she’s also been making the rounds to share her latest cook book, It’s All Good. She’s the queen of minimalist chic & definitely knows how to work a mini skirt, even at 40!

The Oscar-winner made an appearance at Good Morning America in New York wearing a contoured black & white dress with black pointy toe patent leather pumps. Earlier this month, the blonde beauty hit up Barnes & Noble in a printed Isabel Marant mini dress. She added edge to her black & white look with peep toe Michael Kors booties. At the Munich premiere of Iron Man 3, she choose a sleek white KaufmanFranco dress with black cap toe pumps by Christian Louboutin.

Gwyneth Paltrow.

She’s never one to shy away from a showing off her gams & achieves this in a separates look with an A.L.C. checkerboard top with black shorts & a cuffed white blazer. Her black & gold sandals complete the luxurious look while signing copies of her book. Finally, we see Gwynnie in some color! What better way to do that than in a vibrant purple mini dress by Victoria Beckham with neon & black ankle strap Michael Kors sandals for the opening of friend & personal trainer, Tracy Anderson’s flagship studio.

What do you think of Gwyneth’s latest looks? Do you think she’s bringing new meaning to sexy at 40? Beauty Buys: Gwyneth Paltrow’s Latest Nail Polish Collaboration With Butter London!

Gwyneth PaltrowIn the last year, nail polish has made a big comeback, especially with the trend in nail art, thanks in part of quirky New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. However, she’s not the only star lending a hand to the culture of nail polish. Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow has collaborated a second a time with Butter London to create spring-ready sets, perfect for everyday looks, dramatic evening shades, & go-to neutrals, which will be sold exclusively on GP’s website, goop. This includes “Earth-friendly 3-free formula, which keeps harmful chemicals like DBP, formaldehyde, & toluene out of the mix,” according to InStyle.

Take a look below at Candy Coated Trio ($40.00) in a sweet pastel blue, lemon yellow, & cotton candy pink. Also, if you’re into sparkle with metallic shimmer (like me), the Stones Set ($40.00) calls on emerald, sapphire, & amethyst hues. The Starkers Set ($40.00) is a perfect base for a neutral look, especially when you’re looking for a matte finish under a modern French manicure. Lastly, keep your nails healthy with Tops & Tails ($28.00), the famed base & top coats that Butter London is known for.

Butter London

Of course these collections aren’t exactly budget friendly, but if you like to invest in your beauty products, particularly ones that don’t use harsh chemicals, then maybe it’s worth it to keep your tips looking & feeling great.

Which sets do you like the best? Do you prefer matte or sparkly colors? How much do you invest in your nail polish collection?
