Red Carpet Review: All The Sparkles from the Dazzling 2023 BAFTAs, Including Florence Pugh, Lily James, & More!

Tonight’s BAFTAs were a star-studded affair, honoring not only Britain’s best performers & filmmakers from the past year, but Hollywood’s most buzzed about stars dressed to the nines. Some of my favorites of the night include the always transfixing Florence Pugh in a tangerine dream by Nina Ricci, a sparkling Lily James continuing her sultry streak in Tamara Ralph, actress Jodie Turner-Smith in a shimmering feathered gown by Gucci, Tár winner Cate Blanchett rewearing her vintage Margiela column gown, The Menu’s Anya Taylor-Joy in a velvet Schiaparelli Haute Couture, as well as The Woman King star Viola Davis in a violet Stella McCartney ensemble & Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Angela Bassett following the purple trend in a lavender Pamella Roland halter gown.

Additionally, gloves continue to be a major red carpet trend, as seen on Princess Catherine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, & Shiela Artim. Also, there was a frenzy of Louis Vuitton-clad stars, including Blonde nominee Ana de Armas, Cynthia Erivo, Hoyeon Jung, & Sophie Turner.

Not to mention, sleek & elegant tuxedo separates were donned by Everything Everywhere All at Once lead Michelle Yeoh in blush Dior, Jamie Lee Curtis in velvet & white, & Good Luck to You, Leo Grande nominee Emma Thompson in head-to-toe cream.

July is almost over, but that doesn’t mean summer is about to end. When it comes to summer fashion, wearing monochromatic white is an effortless, chic, & classic choice for any occasion. Get inspired by the celebrities below, including Project Runway judge Heidi Klum, royal fashionista Kate Middleton, model Kendall Jenner, Scandal star Kerry Washington, Café Society actress Kristen Stewart, & designer Nicole Richie.

10/21/2013 Darling Of The Day: Kate Middleton Repeats A Timeless Striped Top!

Kate Middleton in a striped Ralph Lauren top, J Brand skinny jeans, a Smythe blazer, & Stuart Weitzman wedges. The world has its eyes on the one & only Kate Middleton, especially since her post-baby appearances have not only inspired new moms, but because her red carpet & street style are continuing to wow fashion critics. Just last week, the Duchess of Cambridge showed her sporty support at a SportsAid Athlete Workshop, wearing a striped Ralph Lauren top, Smythe blazer, J Brand skinny jeans, & Stuart Weitzman wedges. However, the nautical-inspired stripe trend isn’t just for summer & Kate shows this by repeating her look this season.

The fall take on stripes recalls a Parisian look, making any casual separate like a pair of dark denim jeans, skinny pants, or pencil skirt a little more elegant. Some suggestions to pull off an autumn-friendly striped outfit include the following three tops: the Alice + Olivia striped stretch jersey long sleeve top ($40.97) in black & white from Bluefly, Forever 21‘s striped baseball tee ($12.80) in navy & cream, & the striped button shoulder top ($34.00) in navy from Dress Barn (available in sizes Small – 3X).

Bluefly - Alice + Olivia striped long sleeve top $40.97. Forever 21 - Striped baseball tee $12.80. Dress Barn - Striped button shoulder top $34.00.

Which patterns do you love for fall? How do you like to wear striped tops? Are you drooling over Kate’s great post-baby body & style? Top 10 Celeb Sightings: A Gallery Full Of Black & White Looks, & The Best Dressed Kates!

I’ve been one busy little Style Darling lately & it kills me that I went for so many days without posting! So much has been going on in fashion & the May issues of my favorite magazines are stacking up, collecting dust. I can’t wait to flip through them, but in the mean time, I’ve been scoping out some seriously stylish red carpet looks from our favorite celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow, who wore a sleek two-tone Narciso Rodriguez frock during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Also, trends I’ve been noticing are black & white looks, appropriately on my favorite Kates, such as mom-to-be Kate Middleton in a polka dot Topshop dress & Ralph Lauren jacket, Kate Hudson in a leather-accented belted dress, & Kate Beckinsale‘s patterned suit while attending the TCM Classic Film Festival.

Other looks worth mentioning are Charlize Theron‘s Jason Wu jumpsuit, Claire Danes in a leopard print Lanvin dress, Jennifer Lawrence in a sculpted LBD by David Koma, Jessica Biel in an elegant LBD at the Time 100 gala, Kirsten Dunst in a lace & leather mini dress by Emilio Pucci at the GLAAD Media Awards, & lastly, there’s Olivia Palermo looking flawless in an embellished Louis Vuitton sheath dress while at the opening of the brand’s Munich boutique.

Which looks are your favorites? Which trends are you following this spring? Which celebrities do you think always get it right? Happy Styling!

Basics For A Bargain: Best Coats To Buy Now, Inspired By Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham, Michelle Williams, & More!

The holidays are over, but the big sales are just starting. In an effort to wish the warmer spring weather on, retailers are getting a head start on their markdowns, especially when it comes to outerwear. If you live in the Northeast (like I do!), then you’ll know that the weather outside is quite frightful. After spending the day in NYC on Friday, I was plenty thankful for my recent investment in a new wool coat to keep comfortable amid gusty winds down the fashionable streets of the Big Apple.

Celebrities are even breaking out their best in outerwear, including Kate Middleton in a belted Reiss Angel coat with suede knee boots. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer looks cozy in a retro 70s-inspired poncho-style coat with a middle part & suede-accented bag. Katie Holmes arrives for her appearance on Broadway in a knee-length coat, eggplant Dolce & Gabbana bag, & suede Rag & Bone booties.  Socialite & reality star Olivia Palermo hits the streets of Brooklyn in her fur-trimmed coat over leather leggings & knee boots.  Gwen Stefani always stands out, especially in her printed plaid coat with matching red lips & white-rimmed shades for a day out in London. Kate Middleton, Claudia Schiffer, Katie Holmes, Olivia Palermo, Gwen Stefani, Alexa Chung, Victoria Beckham, Leslie Mann, Jessica Chastain, & Michelle Williams

Alexa Chung enhances her shape with this waist-cinching grey coat, which is made all the more feminine with ankle-strap heels & a leather clutch.  Victoria Beckham never gets it wrong, offsetting her menswear look with a plum trench coat & pointy toe heels.  This Is 40 star Leslie Mann reinvents the look of a modern working mom with this tan coat over a leopard print dress for an appearance on Good Morning AmericaJessica Chastain poses for photogs after a performance of The Heiress, wearing a tan piped trench coat with grey knee boots & a leopard scarf.  Michelle Williams plays up her bombshell style with this fur-trimmed double-breasted coat & towering peep toe pumps.

Of course, you don’t have to be a celebrity to look great in outerwear, especially when so much of it is currently on sale.  I’ve selected ten coats of varying styles, all under $100, perfect for any shape & look. I start with $100 b/c a winter coat is something that will last you up to five months out of the year, which means that’s about $20 a month on a coat if you go out everyday to brave the elements. It’s always a good idea to consider how your clothing investments can pay you back, especially when looking for a basic necessity like outerwear.

First, if you’re looking to throw on something chic over your winter sweaters, check out the fur military cape ($67.99) in brown from Gap. If a printed coat is more your style, then the VS peacoat ($59.99) in plaid from Victoria’s Secret is great for dressing up basics like a pullover & jeans. @New York & Company, you’ll find the knit collar wool coat ($41.98) in black, which is currently marked down from its original $139.95 price.  By checking out the Juniors’ department @Macy’s, you can spot the Levi’s faux-fur collar anorak ($35.99) in navy, however it’s also sold in khaki if you want to avoid a denim-on-denim disaster. LOFT‘s blanket stripe wool blend zip coat ($129.99) is listed rather high in price, but due to the site’s current sale, upon checkout, the price automatically reduces to $65.00!

coats

I’m such a big fan of houndstooth in the winter, which is why I was excited to spot the Jaclyn Smith houndstooth coat ($51.99) from KMart, recently reduced from $129.99. For more fun with color, @JC Penney, the a.n.a. hooded peacoat ($30.00) in sangria/black is a must-have clearance item & is also available in ivory/black, which will contrast nicely with leather leggings or a skirt & knee boots. A classic silhouette can be found in the faux-fur trimmed puff sleeve coat ($69.99) in red from Express, which is also sold in pink & navy. The wool-blend cape coat ($29.97) in warm stripe from Old Navy is a great buy for the color-savvy Style Darling & sold in sizes XS – XXL. Finally, the most affordable of all is the quilted self-tie coat ($19.99) from Forever 21, which offers that regal Chanel look with a contemporary twist, especially when worn with a striking scarf in animal print or paisley.

Where do you find the best prices on coats? Do you like to shop after the holidays when there are big sales? What’s your favorite outerwear style? Red Carpet Review: Catherine Middleton’s Very Fashionable 2012 (So Far)!

I’ve featured plenty about Pippa Middleton in the past & even though Style Darling is still 100% in love with the famous younger sister, it’s time I finally gave big sis, Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton some style love.  Although I should mention that I’ve featured some of Kate’s fashionable looks in my blog for Ladies Outfitters, as seen here & here.

Even though we’re in the middle of spring, indulging in light flowy dress & breaking out strappy sandals, I wanted to take a quick look back at Kate whose style (although not on a red carpet) is always worth another look, especially since she’s having such a fabulous 2012! Take a look at the slideshow above, or click through the images below.

11/16/11 Darling of the Day: Pippa Middleton’s Leggings Look Is So Genius, It’s Inspired A Contest!

Big props to The Huffington Post for sharing a link to Style Darling, especially when I’ve been talking so much about the one & only, Pippa Middleton & her effortless street style!  Check out the entire 80+ picture gallery of Pippa’s outfits here.

However, these leggings that Ms. Pippa is wearing are causing quite the style stir since she’s not wearing the traditional tunic top, sweater, or any other rear-covering garment that typically requires leggings so that it looks like you’re not wearing something too short & you’re not showing off your bum, as the Brits say.

Does anyone see a problem with this look? I particularly do not. Personally, I wear leggings without a longer top all the time- around the house- but here with the suede ankle boots & a cute toggle coat, I am inspired!  And any not be?  She’s embracing her shape & probably isn’t paying as much attention to the fact that her behind is such a whopping focus, like the rest of the nay-saying bloggers.

Just because Kate Middleton is Pippa’s sister, it doesn’t mean that she can’t still look & dress like a woman.  Weren’t there even some comments made about Pippa’s rear curves during the royal wedding when she wore the silky Alexander McQueen gown?  What-evs!

I should mention that I especially have leggings on the brain since an upcoming leggings-themed birthday celebration for my fellow blogger Stacey (of EtsyBrook) is just days away & I think news like this just fuels the fire!

Normally, I feature affordable items that help shoppers recreate looks worn by celebrities, but really… any one of us can put together a look like this!  Need some leggings? Then check out my post here.  You can’t beat $8.00 from Target.  I have 5 pairs of these now!

So, I have a challenge for my Style Darling readers out there: Submit a picture to StyleDarlingEmail@gmail.com of your best leggings look (long top or not- but some type of top layering is required!), or if you’ve been inspired by Pippa’s shape-baring ensemble.  The subject of your email should read: Pippa Wears Leggings & So Do I! You should also include a brief description of the outfit, where it was purchased (any necessary links of the items), what you love about it, & where it is that you can be seen wearing it. By the end of the week, I’ll post my favorite image with some details behind its inspiration.  What’s the criteria to win?  Be tasteful, trendy, & classy- just like Pippa!

The prize for whoever I deem the winner is a dedicated post with your image, a polite thanks for being a reader, & a virtual nudge which can bring Style Darling one step closer to blog royalty- no pun intended! Happy Styling!
