Red Carpet Review: The Glamorous 2023 Critics Choice Awards, Including Amanda Seyfried, Janelle Monae, Stephanie Hsu, & More!

Tonight’s Critics Choice Awards bring us one step closer to the climax of awards season for film, but this particular ceremony includes stars of both the big screen & small screen to unite & celebrate their talent, accomplishments, & of course fashion! There were so many trends of the night, continuing the glitz that we saw last weekend at the Golden Globe Awards, including dramatic metallic gown, classic black dresses with cut-outs, neutral / champagne tones, midi-length designs, variations on the naked dress, bold pops of color, & multicolored dresses.

Former Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively is proof of just that in her latest look while taking a stroll on Long Island with family this week. Splurge of Save… On Light Blue Suede Ankle Strap Sandals for Spring!

My goal, as of late, when it comes to my everyday outfits and sharing style tips on Style Darling Daily, is try something new. This includes combinations of separates that I hadn’t thought of previously, as well as only investing in special new additions that not only stand apart from other items I already own, but will also serve multiple purposes. I’ve realized that in the past, I’ve sought out dresses, shoes, & more that thrill me in the moment to add to my wardrobe, without considering their need in the long run. In order to better maintain my closet & finances, I’m being much more careful about how I approach styling.

With that, spring is underway & I’m trying to break away from my usual all-black or only black & white routine. Spring is all about soft, light colors, embracing pastels & brighter hues like nobody’s business. When I was recently perusing through my daily barrage of emails from my favorite stores, I saw a shoe trend that I just couldn’t stop thinking about. Normally, I’m not a trend chaser, sticking to what’s classic & works for my specific body type & daily needs. Ankle strap sandals have always been a little tricky. I haven’t been able to find a comfortable pair in recent years, though I’ve written much about the sleek & delicate style (here), but when I saw that so many different designers & retailers were pitching light blue suede ankle strap sandals for spring, my mind was racing with all the styling possibilities—with dresses, pencil skirts, cropped jeans, & so many more!

It doesn’t hurt to have a little celebirty inspiration when it comes to this particular shoe style, showing all the different colors & ways to wear them. This includes German starlet Diane Kruger, supermodel Kendall Jenner, Oscar-winner Emma Stone, blogger / actress Ashley Madekwe, Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling, & pop star Rihanna.

The actress donned her baby bump (#2 on the way for her & hubby Ryan Reynolds) like a prom queen / prep girl straight out of Gossip Girl (that’s really a compliment, folks!) after completing an appearance on NBC’s Today (in a stunning Elie Saab beaded frock & strappy Stuart Weitzman sandals seen here). Before we get into what’s going on in the world of celebrity style, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy & stylish 2016. I took a much-needed break from the blogosphere where I finished my thesis (a full-length memoir) & I’m on track to graduate with my MFA this May! Also, I tackled a busy holiday season of working 2 jobs (whilst finishing said thesis) & getting sidelined with 2 cases of laryngitis. However, in keeping with good news, I’m happily part of a new relationship, which is motivating me more to conquer 2016 with all things positive & stylish. I’ve learned that the key to any passion project (I’ve transitioned from thesis to blog) is to make sure your life is in order & in a good place before you can successfully dive into it.

One of the hottest shoe trends of this summer is the ankle strap sandal, showing off plenty of toe & foot cleavage. A single-strap across the top of the foot helps elongate the legline & make any outfit instantly sleeker.

Take note from celebrities in an all-purpose black pair like Rihanna in a gold Giorgio Armani skirt set with black ankle strap sandals at the 2015 BET Awards. Also, Rachel McAdams attended the Southpaw screening in a white embroidered Zuhair Murad floral dress & black ankle sandals. Michelle Monaghan mixed separates in a black & pink polo with a ruffed leather skirt by Erdem & black ankle strap sandals at the New York premiere of Pixels. Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were full of red carpet surprises from veteran A-listers like Cake nominee Jennifer Aniston (in vintage Galliano), Birdman‘s Emma Stone (in Dior Couture), America’s sweetheart Julia Roberts (in Givenchy), Homeland‘s Claire Danes (in Marc Jacobs), & last year’s it-girl, Lupita Nyong’o (in Elie Saab). Also, there were plenty of newcomers who made an impact, including many Orange is the New Black winners like Uzo Aduba (in Angel Sanchez) & Danielle Brooks (in Christian Siriano), as well as Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams (in Self-Portrait).

Some of my favorites of the night included The Imitation Game nominee Keira Knightley (in Erdem), Wild‘s Reese Witherspoon (in Atelier Versace), model & wife, Camila Alves McConauhey (in Donna Karan), designer darling Emmy Rossum (in Armani Prive), Modern Family‘s rising star Sarah Hyland (in Vera Wang), St. Vincent nominee Naomi Watts (in Balenciaga), How to Get Away with Murder winner Viola Davis (in Max Mara), & this season’s golden girl, Still Alice winner, Julianne Moore (in Givenchy).

Now the official countdown to the Academy Awards can begin, which takes place on Sunday February 22nd, sure to wow & inspire more amazing style. Who wore your favorite look? I’m trying to catch up the biggest headlines in fashion, while keeping my budget in mind, especially since I’m currently on a shopping fast to cleanse not just my soul, but also my savings account! Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Kim Kardashian’s Silver Jimmy Choo Pumps!

Fashion critics & bloggers have been on the look out for Kim Kardashian‘s pregnancy style, which has included lots of pencil skirts, body conscious dresses, & empire-waisted looks to show off her growing shape & glow. Kim is never one to turn away from a high heel, & during a recent appearance in New York City, she donned the Anouck metallic leather pumps ($650.00) by Jimmy Choo from Saks Fifth Avenue. Not every expectant mom-to-be would be so bold as to keep up their pre-baby bump style with such confidence & sophistication.

Of course, that’s a heft price to pay for silver pumps, but the neutral metallic trend is coming back for spring, especially when paired with bright neons, soft pastels, & edgy embellished pieces. I recently shared a pic on Instagram featuring a shoe find in the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar of a killer pair of silver pointy toe heels, but I also found several options at lower price points for any budget.

The red carpet styles of 2013 are rising by the day & we’re in the thick of awards season, so the best is yet to come.  In my first official Top 10 Celeb Sightings post of the new year, I could just show only Emma Stone, Kerry Washington, & Jessica Chastain since they’ve been doing so much press with their latest films (Gangster Squad, Django Unchained, & Zero Dark Thirty / Mama, respectively).  However, I was so excited to see Emma Stone‘s ravishing red Lanvin dress & the color is just amazing against her alabaster skin & pretty blonde locks.  Not to mention that Kerry Washington is stepping it up for every outing, especially in her checkered Louis Vuitton dress, which I featured in a Runway Rundown post when the Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear collection hit the catwalk.  Also, Jessica Chastain‘s pretty lace frock by Oscar de la Renta is a dream dress for the Golden Globe nominee. 

However, those are only three of the ten radiant looks worn by the most photographed celebs of right now, including Amanda Seyfried‘s studded Bottega Veneta dress, Emily Blunt‘s sleek nude Emilio Pucci number, Fergie‘s chartreuse Oliver Tolentino gown on New Year’s Eve, Helen Mirren showing off her shape in a stunning Escada design, Kate Bosworth getting on board the sheer trend in an LBD by Emilio Pucci, Naomi Watts‘ effortless blue Roland Mouret draped gown, & the always gorgeous Rachel Weisz in a sophisticated floral printed dress by Bottega Veneta.

Splurge Or Save… On Feminine Peep Toe Pumps?

If you’ve been following Style Darling on Instagram, then you know that I’ve been busy with some shoe shopping as of late, but it’s not all for me, for once! My bestie asked for my help in finding closed toe evening pumps & I advised her on investing in Christian Siriano‘s La Femme pumps for Payless, which I featured in a post back in January. I love patent leather for the holidays, but also it’s a luxe material for a shoe any time of year. 

While thinking about holiday shoes, I wanted to share a classic & festive staple & that’s the peep toe pump. Of course you can find any old peep in whatever material you so desire, but for the holidays, I thought it was important to emphasize feminine details in ruffles & bows, especially when our outfits are covered in lace, sequins, or embellishments. 

I’ve selected five pairs of peep toe pumps at varying price points for to share with readers & shoppers that you don’t necessarily have to break the bank when looking for holiday essentials like fashionable footwear. I’ve started off with the Stuart Weitzman peep toe pump ($201.49) that have recently been reduced by 50% @Farfetch. The all-patent exterior is luminous & the shoe offers a stiletto that is sure to show off your legline.  If that’s too out of your price range, then Badgley Mischka sail suede pump ($84.50) from Last Call by Neiman Marcus is sure to get you plenty of bang for you buck. Of course this shoe is definitely more dressy, if worn to at least 2 occasions during the holiday months & throughout the winter, you’ll have 10 wears & each will only cost $8.45! Fancy that!

An even better deal thrives behind my Zappos find with the RSVP Sheryl pumps ($55.99) with an all-over satin finish, perfect for not just the holidays, but evening weddings with a sweeping empire waist gown.  Next, I’m happy to finally share a shoes by Fergalicious (yes, that’s Fergie Ferg) from 6pm, & the Energy pumps ($27.99) break down to less than $3 per wear. The soft ruffle around the peep toe frames your new pedicure, while contrasting any edgy pieces that complete your look like a leather jacket or white satin blazer.

Finally, I’m re-sharing the Valencia bow pumps ($19.99) by Lela Rose for Payless, which I featured back in an August post as a must-have for its patent body & satin bow. The shoe is marked down from its original $44.99 price (which I paid + 20% off with a coupon), but I couldn’t pass these up, thinking that they wouldn’t be around when I needed them (& I wore them for my birthday back in September!). Now, the even lower price makes these all the more desirable & I can tell you from firsthand experience that they’re very comfortable!

Yes, another Wednesday has passed, which means that it’s time for the third installment of Stuart Weitzman‘s “Walking After Midnight” series, featuring model Petra Nemcova, as directed by James Franco. Last week, I very promptly shared with readers the debut short film, directed by Oscar-nominated actor James Franco, for shoe designer, Stuart Weitzman, to the tune of Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight.” The first of four episodes in the series was called The Backflip, & now for the encore vignette, which is called Closecall.

I love the slim, super sexy heel on the shoes worn by model Petra Nemcova, which I think would be hard to stay balanced in, but sometimes you just gotta wear amazing shoes, even if you know you’ve got somewhere to go.  Check out the video & wait til Wednesday, October 17th for the 3rd installation of videos! Like all fashionable Style Darlings, more often than not, a pair of shoes will do the trick.  I don’t care how shallow that sounds, if you’re nodding or grinning, then you know what I mean & I don’t need to expand on that any further.  Apparently, footwear designer Stuart Weitzman wants to share the shoe love with a series of short films, directed by Oscar-nominated actor James Franco. According to an article on In Style, the brand hopes to spread the message that “no matter how high the heel, Stuart Weitzman stilettos can take you from day to night.”

Model, Dancing with the Stars dancer, & activist Petra Nemcova walks to Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight” in this less-than-a-minute vignette, entitled “The Backflip.”  This is the first of four episodes that have been posted to the Stuart Weitzman Facebook page, which will also premiere the subsequent videos every Wednesday for the rest of October.  What do you think of the multi-talented Franco’s work here? Solange Knowles is often the butt of every Beyoncé joke made by Joan Rivers on E!‘s Fashion Police, but there’s nothing to laugh about when it comes to this singer’s style. Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Toronto Film Festival Featuring Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, Freida Pinto, & More!

Tis the season for film festivals, which means that not only are we celebrating the latest slew of must-see major & independent films, but the stars are supporting their work with some fabulous fashions! At various events for the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, we saw many stylish cocktail & formal looks from some of our favorite Style Darlings!

Kate Mara looked radiant in a black overlay Christian Dior dress with nude pumps & a messy side braid.  This season’s it-girl Jessica Chastain accented her porcelain skin with a gold dress by Derek Lam & ankle-strap sandals by Tory Burch.  Marisa Tomei wore a geometric print dress by Proenza Schouler & carried a Stark clutch. My favorite part of this look is the halfway-to-the-knee strappy sandals. Evan Rachel Wood continued her androgynous menswear streak in a pinstripe suit by Dolce & Gabbana.

Freida Pinto brought the sparkle in a blush Valentino dress with Jimmy Choo sandals & a mirrored Roger Vivier clutch.  Last, but not the least, the festival’s best dressed star was Angelina Jolie who wore this black cowl Vivienne Westwood gown at the Moneyball premiere with a Louis Vuitton clutch & Stuart Weitzman satin shoes.
