All About Platforms with Jessica Alba!

Jessica Alba has always been one of my favorite celebrities to watch out for on the red carpet because several elements of her personal style mirror my own. She loves feminine, classic pieces, never straying too far into an architectural or modern aesthetic, but still appearing current & trendy. While the actress / entrepreneur has been promoting her new series L.A.’s Finest (also starring the always exquisite Gabrielle Union), as well as her brand The Honest Company, Jessica has been all about platforms. I couldn’t help but notice the chunky shoe under many of her dresses during her promotional tour, a choice that I would not personally make, but something I love to look at with her red carpet fashion, which has a very 70s & 90s glam vibe right now.

Below Jessica goes peachy in a Giambattista Valli Spring 2019 dress with beige patent leather platforms & an Alaia cropped shirt with a striped skirt in Jimmy Choo platforms.

Also, at the Monte Carlo TV Festival, Jessica wore an orange Silvia Tcherassi belted dress with a Mulberry bag & satin platforms. For her Honest Beauty Meet & Greet, Jessica looks heavenly in a Self Portrait midi dress with rust suede Salvatore Ferragamo platforms. Splurge of Save… On Light Blue Suede Ankle Strap Sandals for Spring!

My goal, as of late, when it comes to my everyday outfits and sharing style tips on Style Darling Daily, is try something new. This includes combinations of separates that I hadn’t thought of previously, as well as only investing in special new additions that not only stand apart from other items I already own, but will also serve multiple purposes. I’ve realized that in the past, I’ve sought out dresses, shoes, & more that thrill me in the moment to add to my wardrobe, without considering their need in the long run. In order to better maintain my closet & finances, I’m being much more careful about how I approach styling.

With that, spring is underway & I’m trying to break away from my usual all-black or only black & white routine. Spring is all about soft, light colors, embracing pastels & brighter hues like nobody’s business. When I was recently perusing through my daily barrage of emails from my favorite stores, I saw a shoe trend that I just couldn’t stop thinking about. Normally, I’m not a trend chaser, sticking to what’s classic & works for my specific body type & daily needs. Ankle strap sandals have always been a little tricky. I haven’t been able to find a comfortable pair in recent years, though I’ve written much about the sleek & delicate style (here), but when I saw that so many different designers & retailers were pitching light blue suede ankle strap sandals for spring, my mind was racing with all the styling possibilities—with dresses, pencil skirts, cropped jeans, & so many more!

It doesn’t hurt to have a little celebirty inspiration when it comes to this particular shoe style, showing all the different colors & ways to wear them. This includes German starlet Diane Kruger, supermodel Kendall Jenner, Oscar-winner Emma Stone, blogger / actress Ashley MadekweOrange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling, & pop star Rihanna

06/21/2016 Darling of the Day: Blake Lively’s Yellow + Denim Combo Inpires Summer Style in New York City!

Blake Lively is making the style rounds to promote her latest film, The Shallows, taking advantage of every opportunity she can for a beautiful fashion moment. The actress donned her baby bump (#2 on the way for her & hubby Ryan Reynolds) like a prom queen / prep girl straight out of Gossip Girl (that’s really a compliment, folks!) after completing an appearance on NBC’s Today (in a stunning Elie Saab beaded frock & strappy Stuart Weitzman sandals seen here). While waving to photogs, Blake played up her yellow embellished Jenny Packham gown (see it here on the runway from the designer’s Fall 2016 collection) with a light wash denim jacket from Madewell (shop it here), printed Christian Louboutin ‘Kate’ chevron pumps (shop them here), as well as tons of turquoise, blue, & silver jewelry layered on to stay true to her bohemian aesthetic by Jennifer Meyer, Alison Lou, Mociun, & Lorraine Schwartz.

Blake Lively in a yellow Jenny Packham empire maxi dress with a Madewell denim jacket & printed Christian Louboutin pointy toe heels. What I especially love about this look is that it inspires new life into those gowns we all have from special occasions in the past. Since summer is all about maxi dresses, why not play with the styling possibilities & mix up your look with a staple like a denim jacket & fun footwear? That goes for classic prom dresses, perhaps something not so ball gown-shaped, as well as that bridesmaid dress tucked away in the back of your closet. Chiffon is a breezy, light weight material perfect to try on any look this season, maybe when you’re meeting with girlfriends for lunch, or headed to a museum or vineyard this weekend. Check out the inspiration below in dresses (not as glam as Blake’s but still hitting the sunshine-y notes of yellow) & accessories for budget shoppers who wear misses, plus, & petite sizes.

While we’re on the subject of one Blake Lively, it would be a waste not to share the gallery below of Blake’s flawless maternity style this spring during press appearances, hitting the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival, & maintaining her #styleicon status at the 2016 Met Ball.

Show Me The Shoes: Spring’s Trendy Fringed Suede Sandals for Under $40!

It’s hard to think about spring when a change in season is still so far away, but it’s easy-peasy to think about spring fashion since there’s so much of it already out in stores & online to shop through. Specifically, fringe was a big trend from last summer in kimonos & even for fall-winter with luxe poncho sweaters & capes. It doesn’t look like fringe is going away for spring either, especially when it comes to footwear. Fringed suede sandals are the perfect way to mix up your spring look, when traveling in a maxi dress, elevating your LBD, or dressing up some menswear with a feminine touch. When you’re shopping on a budget, but still looking to upgrade your style, finding a fly pair of sandals is a must, which is why the colorful four pairs below are my top picks (& they’re under $40)!

Splurge or Save… on Gold Wedge Espadrilles!

One of my favorite summer wardrobe staples is the wedge. This season, I’m seeing so many different styles of wedges, especially in chic metallics like gold, sold at high-end retailers & mainstream stores, appealing to shoppers at multiple price points ($200.00 – $15.00). These shoes are perfect for coordinating with a variety of outfits. Gold wedge espadrilles like the styles shown below are neutral for a maxi dress with drop earrings, a printed romper & chunky belt, & a flirty blouse with linen shorts. Not only are wedges a super comfortable alternative footwear when the temperature rises, but they can dress up the most casual outfit & dress down something cocktail ready. Also, a wedge heel of 3-4 inches elongates the legline & shows off your favorite nail polish hues of the season.

gold wedge espadrilles for summer - Joie ($192.50), MK Michael Kors ($150.00), Steve Madden ($79.95), Dress Barn ($40.00), Charlotte Russe ($35.99), & Payless ($15.00).

Basics For A Bargain: Pointy Animal Print Flats, Tom Ford Vs. Old Navy!

I am all over the new September issues of my favorite fashion magazines, loving all of the style inspiration inside the pages, especially when I’m seeking Basics for a Bargain. So, Lucky magazine is among my go-to publications to expand my wardrobe, as well as shoe & accessories collections. I’m always a big fan of animal prints, which make a great neutral as accessories with some bold solid pieces like a sheath dress & pumps, a belted jumpsuit, or crisp separates with sandals. Now that I’m looking ahead to the fall, I’m pretty excited about wearing flats when I’m headed out & about to my jobs & class. In the pages of Lucky, I found these gorgeous panther print hair calf padlock ballerina flats ($1,190.00) in cognac by the one & only, Tom Ford.

Leopard flats. Tom Ford & Old Navy.

I was immediately reminded of my recent coupon-toting excursion to Old Navy, where I found these animal print d’orsay flats ($16.00). However, the pair that I ended up bringing home was actually reduced to under $8 in stores. I tried these pointy toe flats on & was very excited at the possibilities of how I can wear them: with a little black dress, a cardigan-blouse-pencil skirt combo, & when I’m trying to transition some of my summer favorites into fall like a maxi dress & denim jacket.

For more fashionable animal print flats on the market right now, check out other picks from Steve Madden, Christian Siriano for Payless, Lucky brand @DSW, & Nine West. 2013 Black Friday Style: Fashionable Flats For Your Shopping Frenzy!

Whether you’re spending the holidays with family or hitting up the stores in search of the biggest & best deal, you’re definitely going to need a fabulous pair of shoes to help you along the way, which is why I’m happy to feature flats as a part of my 2013 Black Friday Style series. Having so much retail experience, I can tell you that flats are a stylish lifesaver to the working woman’s feet. I’m most inspired by details print & pattern, texture, shine, & menswear inspiration, which are essential ingredients to make any holiday season all the more special.

Forever 21 - plaid flats $16.80, GOjane - glitter flats $23.80, H&M quilted ballet flats $9.99, Steve Madden - patent KINGG flats $41.98, & Payless - Christian Siriano smoking flat $26.99.

I know I’ll be breaking out my most comfortable & stylish flats this weekend (working the 2nd job!), thinking about all the ways that I can style my flats with leggings & tunic sweater, blouse & skinny jeans, & a cardigan & A-line skirt with tights. How do you like to wear flats? Which style is your favorite?

Show Me The Shoes: Nude Patent Studded Flats From Steve Madden & Payless!

I’ve been working so much this summer that I haven’t given my heels & wedges the attention they deserve. Now that it’s September, I know there’s not much more time for them left; however, earlier this summer, I made an investment in a trendy, yet neutral ballet flat, which is perfect for all aspects of my life: 2 jobs & school. This purchase was the Brash Chaos stud flat ($16.99) from Payless (see below), which are marked down from their original $27.99 price tag.

Steve Madden - KSTUDD flats $19.99. Payless - Chaos stud flat $16.99.

I also checked out what was going on recently with Steve Madden‘s summer clearance, which is how I found the KSTUDD flat ($19.99) that offers a doubly stylish stud detail & is also reduced from the original $49.95 price.

I’m already picturing these with skinny jeans & a tunic sweater when running errands, a sheath dress & cardigan for the office, & a printed blouse with trousers for meeting the girls for brunch. How would you style these shoes? Which brand would you pick? Do you like the studded trend on shoes & accessories this fall?

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Leopard, Metallic, & Rhinestone Flip Flops For Summer!

Memorial Day marks the start of summer for retailers & everywhere you look, cut-off shorts, maxi dresses, & swimsuits are invading the racks at some of my favorite stores. Also, you’ll find plenty of flip-flop options, including ones with leopard print, metallic finished, & rhinestone details, which are perfect for mixing & matching with a variety of summer staples. In my search to share some of the best deals, I couldn’t help but see these trends all over, including at luxury department stores by big brand names. Of course, my goal here is to find the most affordable picks, & that it’s so easy to find look-alikes without breaking the bank.

First, I love the look of animal inspiration for flip-flops, which can work with a polka dot shorts romper, neon bathing suit, or blouse & mini skirt look. That’s why I found the Sam Edelman Gracie flat sandal ($60.00) from Neiman Marcus, & compared it to the American Eagle Twinkle flat flip-flop ($7.99) from Payless.

Next, @Steve Madden, you can find the Sandstrom flip flop ($49.95) in platinum, but you can also achieve the metallic look with the faux leather thong sandals ($8.80) in silver from Forever 21, which are also available in black, gold, & rose. Also, dress up your flip-flops with a little sparkle, as seen with the GUESS flip-flop sandals ($49.00) from Bloomingdale’s. However, for your next barbecue or beachside getaway, check out the rhinestone strap jelly flip-flop ($14.50) in black from Charlotte Russe, which is also where you can score the Buy 1 Get 1 for $12.50 deal on footwear!

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Nude Cork Heels From Michael Kors Vs. Steve Madden!

In getting ready to switch my closet around from the heavy knits & suede boots that I wore in the fall / winter, I’m looking forward to reacquainting myself with the pieces that I haven’t worn since the end of last summer. This will include some of my favorite shoes, like nude cork pumps that are perfect for wearing with spring dresses.

Of course, I’m crazy about bright wedges, floral sandals, & laser cut ballet flats, but the nude pump is a spring / summer staple. I found the KORS Michael Kors glitter patent cork pump ($195.00), which combine the luxe exterior patent leather with the lightness of a cork heel. I really love the way these textures look together, adding lots of dimension to any LBD, sheath dress, or lace shorts & blouse look.

KORS Michael Kors Glitter Patent Cork Pump $195.00. Steve Madden Summer Blust Patent Pump $19.99.

Being that I’m not going to spend that much cash on a pair of shoes for the spring, I was happy to find a more affordable look-alike in the Summer blush patent pumps ($19.99) @Steve Madden. The shape of the shoe’s vamp is a little different from the Michael Kors design, but it still has the same features to match any spring / summer look. More affordable nude / cork combos for the upcoming spring / summer season include GOjane‘s platform cork wedges ($29.40), the canvas cork wedge ($29.50) from Wet Seal, & printed cork peeptoe heels ($32.80) from Forever 21.

4/01/2013 Darling Of The Day: Taylor Swift’s Preppy & Cozy Sweater Look In NYC!

During a recent stay in New York City, country crooner Taylor Swift exited her hotel in a black long-sleeved cable knit sweater, cropped burgundy trousers, lace-up flats, & a leather tote bag. The usually feminine singer / songwriter shows off her preppy style, despite not having received the memo that spring is in the air. Of course there are just a few chilly days left in New York, but it’s not joke (on April Fool’s Day) that Taylor’s look is classic, effortless, & easy to pull off.

To put together an affordable version of this outfit, I selected the Sonoma life + style cable knit sweater ($19.99) in black from Kohl’s, which can also be mixed with a pastel pleated skirt, or worn over a floral sheath dress. Also, the Marisa straight leg pants ($26.93) in empire red from LOFT can offset softer pieces like a silk ruffled blouse, sequined tank & boyfriend blazer, & solid tee with a statement necklace. The accessories are perfect for any season, including the H-Trosuer flats ($59.95) in black from Steve Madden, faux leather zip pocket tote ($45.00) in orange from Dress Barn, & floral square sunglasses ($5.80) from Forever 21.

What do you think of Taylor’s look? Do you like mixing menswear pieces to your everyday outfits? Are you shopping for loafer flats for the spring? Show Me The Shoes / Color Me Style: Mint Is Back For Spring!

During this spring break, I’ve had plenty of time studying the latest spring trends & aside from bold bright, you can find plenty of pastels, including mint shoes that will make any outfit look fresh & spring-ready. After a recent conversation with an engaged friend about the difference between turquoise & teal for her upcoming nuptials, I was inspired to share the color mint. Of course this hue can be seen on dresses, blouses, pants, & accessories, but more importantly, I’m loving the idea of mint shoes, especially since there are so many affordable shoes.

mint shoesAdd mint to your flats collection with the Merona Macha wedge ballet flat ($19.50) from Target, which have a classic faux snake texture with any effortless tee & skinny jeans. Also, the canvas Bella skimmer ($19.50) from Delia’s offers a lighter material to contrast with a neutral leather mini & sleeveless button-down. If you’re headed to a tropical location on vacation before summer, the Steve Madden Swinger sandals ($49.95) is perfect for a maxi dress & stacked bangles, a cotton spring dress with a beaded necklace, or with walking shorts & a silky blouse.

This wouldn’t a proper shoe post if I didn’t talk about some major budget-friendly heels, like the patent cap toe platform pump ($32.50) from Charlotte Russe, which transitions the cap toe trend perfectly between seasons. The GOjane peep toe platform wedges ($24.95) are edgy for a look with leggings & a tunic top, & they’re on sale right now! Next, bring mint to the office with the Fioni Jordyn t-strap pumps ($26.99) from Payless coordinated with a floral sheath dress & a cardigan, or for happy hour with a polka dot blouse & pencil skirt.

The peep toe platform wedge ($32.80) from Forever 21 is chic for a weekend getaway in a chambray dress or with neutral separates like a beige cami with silky pajama-inspired pants. Lastly, DSW‘s Fergalicious Eileen pump ($39.95) is definitely a must-have for a date night in a shift dress or can dress up any outfit like a mini leather skirt & graphic tee if you’re headed to a concert.

Which style is your favorite? Do you like the mint shoe trend? What colors are your mist attracted to this fall? Basics For A Bargain: Monochromatic Looks To Brighten Up Any Season, Wardrobe, & Budget!

It’s not often that I wear monochromatic looks, but when I do, it’s usually either black or gray. These are go-to colors that I know I can always mix & match with each other, especially when I’m headed to work & am looking for something chic & fluid to wear. I was inspired by monochrome outfits during my last photo shoot of pictures of myself to post on Style Darling (see the all-green sweater & pants look, for example).

Since I started covering Runway Rundown here, I noticed the dominance of monochromatic designs, especially for the 2013 runways. This includes Calvin Klein Collection with a multi-textural caramel look, Michael Kors‘ lemon yellow duds, Elie Saab‘s cobalt crush, Salvatore Ferragamo using neutral beige, Christopher Kane‘s all-white ensemble, Bottega Veneta‘s brick menswear-inspiration, & BCBG Max Azria‘s flowing black separates.

Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Elie Saab, Salvatore Ferragamo, Christopher Kane, Bottega Veneta, & BCBG Max Azria.

Taking a cue from the runways, there have been plenty of color-on-color red carpet apperances. Celebrities who’ve donned monochromatic looks include Michelle Williams who attended the New York Times Arts & Leisure Weekend event in head-to-toe black with a belted mini, tights, & suede booties. Fashion icon Alexa Chung breaks up her nearly-monochromatic look in an oxblood turtleneck by Versus & leather zip-up mini with lasercut flats. Country songstress Taylor Swift went for a more mature look in a custom-made all-white suit by J. Mendel at last year’s MTV Video Music Awards. Victoria Beckham looks nothing short of amazing in her nude sheath dress design with Brian Atwood pumps. Lastly, back in 2009, Penelope Cruz dazzles in a three-piece scarlett suit by Bottega Veneta at the London premiere of Broken Embraces with two-tone strappy sandals.

Michelle Williams, Alexa Chung, Taylor Swift, Victoria Beckham, & Penelope Cruz.

Now that we’ve seen what’s going on inside the pages of our favorite magazines & who’s wearing what on the runways, I wanted to show how anyone can wear a monochromatic look without breaking your budget. What’s great about finding identical tones is the crisp & clean look that it creates & that’s where you can have fun with accessorizing with a sparkling scarf, baubled cocktail rings, bib necklaces, embossed handbags, & so on. In these looks, I have included at least one accessory, but it’s simply a suggestion & option to really bring the look together & in most cases (except for the teal look) still fits within budget.

First, I’ve been thinking about coral, ever since a post from The $100 Challenge where I featured a coral dress for the holidays, but I just love the softness of the color, which is perfect for any skintone. It instantly adds some natural rosiness to your cheeks & always looks feminine. The studded Peter Pan collar shirt ($22.80) from Forever 21 already has some built-in detail with the gold that helps frame your face. This matches perfectly with Target‘s Mossimo ankle pant ($27.99) & the sueded uber platform pumps ($12.50) from Charlotte Russe, which have just been reduced from their original $32.50 price. Lastly, I fell in love with the art deco-inspired spike triangle earrings ($8.77) from ASOS, which add a rose gold luxury to such a relaxed, yet sophisticated outfit. Also, if you want to break up these pieces to create a trendy or unexpected look, mix things up with dark denim skinnies, cap toe ballet flats, a silk boyfriend blazer, or metallic belt.

I’ve also been seeing a neon opportunity for your wardrobe for quite some time now. Of course, this color is to be worn confidently & with caution. We all want to look so good we stop traffic, but this look with highlighter yellow or electric lime tones could almost guarantee such a result. It all started with the a.n.a. perfect skinny corduroy pants ($17.00) from JC Penney that I spotted sometime before the holidays, but now they’re marked down & I’m excited to see how these might be worn for the rest of the winter & into spring. I paired these with the boatneck banded bottom tee ($29.90) from Express & Forever 21‘s faux suede pumps ($29.80). While any gold, white lacquered, or lucite jewelry will enhance this look, Alloy‘s Zahara neon necklace ($19.90) was just irresistible, thanks to a search on ShopStyle for matching accessories. Also, for more ideas on how to wear these pieces, consider other neutrals like charcoal, black, & navy, as well as classic patterns like polka dots, houndstooth, & plaid.

Coral, Neon, Teal, & Fuchsia.

I found myself a little troubled when looking for coordinating pieces for my teal ensemble- ones that wouldn’t make me go over budget, but… I did. Sometimes that happens when you find absolutely must-have pieces. I just adore this color (on me!) & think it’s a bold way to reinterpret greens & blues since it falls so beautifully in the middle. While checking out the newest arrivals @New York & Company, I found the satiny pleated from belted blouse ($29.95), which instantly made me think to find a skirt. Then the Grace Elements teal skirt with yoke ($24.99) from Loehmann’s was a perfect fit, especially if you’re trying to refresh your work wardrobe. For an extra fun touch, @Steve Madden, the Intrude pumps ($34.99) are just what this look needed to add some texture & despite the myth of material, these can be worn any time of the year. Finally, the Croft & Barrow jet bead hoop drop earrings ($12.00) from Kohl’s put the look just a bit over $100, but you can always keep this affordable by wearing favorites that you may already own like diamond stud earrings or something in silver.

My final look goes out to my plus-size Style Darlings because I think a berry tone is perfect for any shape & any woman. I shopped Wet Seal‘s plus section to find the 3/4 sleeve belted blouse ($18.99) on sale, which comes with a detachable belt, perfect for wearing over a cardigan or jersey dress to help enhance your curves. To keep this look balanced & figure-flattering, the roz & ALI stretch colored jeggings ($19.99) from Dress Barn helped complete the bottom half, especially since they’re available in sizes 14-24. I found the Rocket Dog Monica flat ($24.94) @DSW, which would also help dress down a shirt dress, work if paired with a denim skirt & sweater, or contrast a ruffled blouse & dolman top. My final piece to this looks is the neon metallic teardrop earring ($5.80) from Forever 21, which would sparkle for a date night in an LBD or look cute with a mod shift dress.

Color Me Style: Hello Yellow For Winter & Spring, Inspired By Emmy Rossum, Miranda Kerr, Anna Kendrick, & More!

Yellow is one of those colors that’s always a little risky to wear out on the red carpet, but when it’s done right, it can look really spectacular.  Not to mention that the color is coming back for this season (following right behind emerald trends), which we’ve seen on some of today’s most stylish celebrities.  This includes former Grey’s Anatomy star, Nora Zehetner wore a minimalist Calvin Klein Collection sheath mini at a Metropolitan Museum of Art event last month. Lauren Conrad showed off her feminine side, as usual, in a bright Yoana Baraschi dress with suede neutral pumps. Actress Kate Mara looked stunning in a Dior shift dress at the London premiere of House of Cards with a suede box clutch by Nancy Gonzalez & satin peep toe pumps.

Nora Zehetner, Lauren Conrad, Kate Mara, Emmy Rossum, Anna Kendrick, & Jada Pinkett Smith.

Shameless star Emmy Rossum also donned Dior with a metallic minaudiere & strappy black sandals. For an interview on The Late Show with David Letterman, Anna Kendrick asymmetrical sheath dress by Halston Heritage is offset by nude peep toe pumps & jewelry by Dana Rebecca Designs. Lastly, during a recent appearance on Katie, Jada Pinkett Smith slipped into a curve-hugging Victoria Beckham dress with towering, patterned platform pumps.

It wasn’t heard to search the web for some cute & affordable yellow dresses to wear with your favorite evening shoes, collar necklaces, stacked bangles, or statement rings. Yellow dresses are also popular in pastels like the cutout ribbon back dress ($27.80) from Forever 21, which is described as “citron.” @Macy’s, the Bar III cap-sleeve seamed scoop neck dress ($29.99) is marked down from its original $69.00 price tag.  For a figure-flattering, sexy dress, the ASOS wrap front pencil dress ($56.29) is the perfection attention-grabbing option, especially is paired with strappy sandals, or belted & worn under a boyfriend blazer.

The Ark & Co ‘Swept Away’ strapless dress ($46.00) from Lulu’s is a pretty option, especially if you want to show off your décolletage with a spiked necklace & messy updo. Lastly, the Mossimo casual one-shoulder dress ($24.99) from Target is a flowy & flirty number to wear casually with gladiator flats when on vacation, or with a velvet bolero & textured tights.

Also, yellow separates really make an outfit pop, so if you’re wearing neutrals, this bright color can really work the value of basics like dark denim jeans, a black sweater, or a mini skirt. Take a cue from Olivia Palermo‘s wool-blend coat from Old Navy with leather leggings & oversized turtleneck. Also, supermodel Miranda Kerr tops off her casual look with a yellow blazer, perfect for a chic day out shopping. Kirsten Dunst played with yellow in her printed Stella McCartney separates at the premiere of The Bachelorette with ankle strap suede heels.

Olivia Palermo, Miranda Kerr, Kirsten Dunst, Kim Kardashian, & Taylor Swift.

Kim Kardashian‘s colorblocked look made headlines, especially with her sophisticated Chloé blouse & mary jane Christian Louboutin platforms. Taylor Swift plays up her girl-next-door style in a pleated yellow skirt, also by Chloé, with a tucked in cable knit sweater & bowed ballet flats.

Get inspired to add some yellow thoughtfully to your look with these affordable pieces.  First, the Tinley Road Bleecker blazer ($39.99) from Piperlime is fun to wear over an LBD for the office, or to dress up a graphic tee & jeans with pointy toe pumps. You can head to Express to find the mesh inset blouson tee ($24.90) for floral pants, satin shorts & tights, or tucked into a brocade pencil skirt. Another top worth considering is the blouse ($29.95) from H&M to coordinate under an embellished cardigan, over a silk cami, or with a contrasting hue like red or cobalt jeans. Also, Piperlime‘s Greylin Viv ponte pencil skirt ($42.99) is a timeless basic to match with a printed top or classic & crisp button-down shirt.

Accessories in yellow aren’t hard to come by either… & there’s always a place in your look for this color. The embossed skinny belt ($14.99) from Coldwater Creek is currently half off & will add a special touch of texture to tweed or suede pieces. I also love the fringed drop earrings ($6.80) from Forever 21, which will work for an evening look with a cocktail dress & even bring out the personality of a tropical maxidress in the summer.

You can never go wrong with yellow shoes. I am the proud owner of at least three pair & I don’t mean that they’re gold- they range in the banana to mustard hues & I’ve found so many uses for them. I love the Steve Madden Rockkk flats ($29.99) from 6pm, which originally cost as high as $60.00 when they hit the market. Finally, for the shoe-lover out there, the Michael Antonio Tracey sandal ($29.94) from DSW offers a sexy way to show off your gams, while still embracing the color yellow.

Do you like to wear yellow? Which celebrity do you think pulls off yellow the best? Do you have a favorite yellow piece that you like to incorporate into your look? Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Steve Madden Markdowns for $34.99!

I haven’t had a chance to visit Steve Madden lately, so in my shoe-loving craze during the conference, I knew I had to find a few minutes to go on the hunt for some affordable summer shoes.  Of course, you’re gonna start seeing all the new fall arrivals, which I love b/c that means that my birthday is coming up! However, end-of-the-season deals are very tangible & can completely change your wardrobe when you least expect it!

Check out these Onasiss peep toe slingback cork heels ($34.99), available in both multi & natural & marked down from their original $109.95 price tag.  Neutrals are great to keep around for those wildly printed dresses or when you want to soften a brightly-hued skirt, but I always recommend to go bold when it comes to shoes.  You’d be surprised how a multi color pattern like this one can really work for your wardrobe.  Break these out with a pair of skinny jeans & silky tank, or get ready for some dancing in a flowy summer dress.

What end-of-the-season deals are you looking for right now? Are you a shoe gal? Can you find these for an even better price? Happy Styling!

Black Friday Sale Update: 30% Off On Steve Madden Shoes!

I woke up this morning to over 60 emails from the subscribed websites in which I frequent for Style Darling & this included news about the special 30% off code (STUFFING) @Steve Madden.

I picked out three pairs of shoes that can totally change your fall / winter wardrobe & they’re all in suede!  First off, the ‘Getreal’ platform sandals($49.98) in purple are bold enough to spice up any LBD look.  Also, they’re available in black & taupe which will help make any 70s-inspired paisley look a little more modern.

Next the ‘Layna’ evening sandal ($39.98) can transform any work look to be evening ready with its wide buckles.  You can also get these in taupe suede for a late winter / early spring look with a metallic pencil skirt & some bangles.

One type of shoe that I’m very fascinated with this season is the shootie peep toe wedge, like the ‘Wiicked’ shoes ($49.98).  Even though they’re a bit on the futuristic side, take a sculptural or asymmetrical dress with some black tights with these shoes.  Also, if you’ve already had enough suede this season, they’re also available in black leather & in leopard print!

While you’re clicking around on the site, be sure to check out the amazing clearance deals on accessories like leggings, belts, socks, & gorgeous handbags!

The sale & code are good until Monday, 11/28, but you should check out the store’s website now to get your hands (& feet) on these fabulous styles! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Purely Precious Peep Toe Pumps for $19.99!

In an effort to try & feature some especially darling, on-the-spot deals, I featured an adorable t-strap pump available @G by Guess a few days ago & now I have another to-die-for find.  These ‘Fiorra’ black satin peep toe pumps ($19.99), also available in champagne satin @Steve Madden are perfect for any upcoming fall / winder wedding.  Also, the holidays are coming up, which means that it’s time to start thinking about your New Year’s Eve look also!

I’m always one to advocate a bow, that’s no secret.  These capture everything feminine & frilly that I love about evening shoes.  They’re originally marked down from $89.95, so getting on top of this deal right now is one end-of-season clearance pick that you can’t miss!

If you’re a fan of Steve Madden designs, be sure to also check out stores like Mandee, DSW, Zappos, & 6PM to find all the latest style & recent markdowns.  Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge / 10/8/11 Darling of the Day: Lea Michele In An ASOS Mini Dress!

Lea Michele is by far the best dressed Gleek of them all- Dianna Agron is a close second.  What I love about Lea’s looks is that they’re unexpected, a little risky, & very natural on the young actress.

Here, she’s wearing a mini lace high neck cut-out top dress in navy by ASOS ($52.38).  Although it may seem like there’s part of the dress missing, especially considering that the model is wearing leggings, Lea pulls it off with to-die-for patent leather Brian Atwood ankle booties!

Just so you know, the Brian Atwood booties have a black leather look-alike pair, which is sold @Saks Fifth Avenue for $850.0o! However, the petite star who stands at 5’3″ (my height) looks lean & leggy with the four-inch heel.

Since there’s so much memorable detail in the lacey dress & contrasting edgy booties, she accessorizes her look with a cocktail ring by M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza.  Consider that when your look consists of several details that offer a lot of dimension to the overall statement of your personality, keeping the extra, background pieces simple is always the best way to go!

The reason why I’ve cross-categorized this blog is b/c it just so happens to fall under the criteria of The $100 Challenge!  You can add Steve Madden ‘Menlo’ platform bootie ($39.94) from DSW, as well as the sparkling sunburst ring ($5.80) from Forever 21 to get a look that costs $98.12 before taxes!

I did recently feature Lea in a Darling of the Day post, wearing Jason Wu & Brian Atwood, but you can check out stars like Rosie Huntington – Whiteley & Jessica Biel sporting looks that are easily translatable to pieces that you may already own in your wardrobe!  Also, if you’re a bargain shopper, check out a comfy chic look & how to style your summer favorites for fall in The $100 Challenge!

NYC Street Style: Fall-Ready Flats, Belts, Tights, Scarves, & Boots, Oh My!

I recently took a few trips into NYC, to see Catch Me If You Can on Broadway before it closed, & I attended a special advanced screening of The Lion King 3D before it opened this past weekend.  Good times were had with friends & plenty of wine was consumed, however, post-Labor Day street style has brought out some new fall pieces like flats, belts, textured tights, scarves, & boots.

I’ve been doing a lot of posting recently about what the stars are wearing & indulging in my favorite new category, Super Style Wishlist, but I have not forgotten the roots of Style Darling, style on a budget.  Seeing all the different combinations of belts over tunic tops or button downs with leggings & skinny jeans, paired with flats, there’s just so much to talk about!

I clicked through some of my favorite websites for affordable accessories & shoes & couldn’t decide what to pick, so I focused on items, on a store-to-store basis.  Where are you looking to get some new belts this season?  I recommend Forever 21, with prices ranging from $1.50 – $8.80 in the belts shown.  Sizes range from Small – Large, but if you click here for Forever 21+, you can find fashionable belts in the same price range that go from XL – 3X.

I’m loving the flats this season from Payless, especially the ones designed by Christian Siriano & Z London.  Post-summer styles start at $12.99 & newer designer styles go up to $49.99, but the prints are so versatile for your office look or weekend look.  Inspired by my weekend in New York City, you can bet a lot of the city going gals are pounding the pavement in these comfortable foot-friendly flats in croc, leopard, with jewel embellishments, or bows?!

My absolutely favorite part of this time of year is that I can now break out my textured tights.  The store that is selling the best designs is certainly Express.  I love florals, animal prints, polka dots, striped, & anything you can think of to go with my tweed, bubble, or pencil skirts!  The prices of these tights & many more on the website, range in price from $14.90 – $29.90, but if you are signed up to receive emails, you’ll get coupons & notifications of all the best sales.  Not to mention, if you’re a credit cardholder, you can receive a rewards card, like I did & got $15 off acute sequined top.  Now I wish I’d saved it & spent it on some tights, but I’m sure I’ll figure something out.  For my fuller-figured readers, check out Torrid for textured tights & flirty legwear, ranging in sizes 1X – 4X (styles not shown).

If we’re talking about fall fashion, you can’t leave out boots.  There weren’t many boots out & about during my two weekends in NYC, but a few did catch my eye.  I instantly went to DSW to see these sexy & polished styles, ranging in price from $19.94 – $39.94, from brands like Michael Antonio & Madden Girl by Steve Madden.  Everyone loves knee boots or over-the-knee boots, but at heart, I’m an ankle bootie girl, especially with the textured tights shown above!

Last, but not least, you can’t have anything to do with fall & not talk about scarves.  They’re that extra special touch of style that make your casual, dressy, or edgy look possible, especially with these finds from Old Navy! The store offers lightweight, infinity, & heavy knit scarves for whatever occasion may call for a covered neck, but stars like Sienna Miller, Nicole Richie, & Ashlee Simpson always rely on a scarf to avoid a chill.  The styles range in price from $8.94 – $14.94.  Those are prices you can’t beat, especially if you’re a cardmember b/c you’ll earn points for future purchases & get discounts like $15 off you next purchase of $50- which I received as a recent birthday gift from the store.

Be sure to check out my last NYC Street Style post for when I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibit before it closed!  Which trends are you spotting around town?  Do you have a favorite scarf, pair of tights, or flats that you’re looking forward to wearing this fall?  What’s your favorite accessory for when the weather turns a bit chillier? Happy Styling!

Color Me Style: The Hunt for the Red Shoe (Dedicated to Rosie)!

Recently, my best friend, Rosie, revealed to me that she wants some red shoes.  My first instinct was to be her shoe guide, & also get a good blog out of it!  While our styles & tastes are very different, I was proud to go on the hunt to find shoes that meet her very specific needs: not too high. Standard heel size for me is four inches, but I found these styles that Rosie should try on whether she’s trying to look sexy for a date night & keep her daytime office look both professional & polished.

These selected shoes do vary in price range since Rosie would be investing in one perfect pair of red pumps, whereas other weak-minded & footed Style Darlings like me, shoe obsessed & all would be seeking to own many different styles of red confectionary footwear.

First we have the ‘Ramone’ satin slingback platform style from Nine West for $89.00 which is perfect with a pair of dress pants, leggings, or your favorite LBD.  It has just the right amount of detail & toe cleavage to attract attention.  Probably the safest bet for a girl like Rosie who’s conventional & cute, the bow front cone heels from Charlotte Russe for $28.00.  The patent leather makes them cocktail-ready, but also restrained enough for daytime with capris & a flirty blouse.  If looking for something more elegant, just for night-time, I always recommend red in satin b/c it’s just so pretty, like the Caparros ‘Harriet’ pump from DSW for $24.94, which are also available in black for a formal occasion!

The ankle wrap pump comes courtesy of Payless by Silvia Tcherassi for $54.99. I’ve already checked & these are too loud for my friend, but do make for the proper statement red shoe if you want to shoe off your wild side.  Madden Girl by Steve Madden has created these comfortable deep red patent leather round toe pumps, available @Zappos for $49.95 that are the least likely to give your feet any pain with very modest 3-inch heel.  You just can’t go wrong with a basic pair of red pumps like the ‘Arnoldoa’ from ALDO that are marked down from $70.00 to $34.98 right now!

Do you have a favorite pair of red shoes?  Do you like red shoes or think they’re too Dorothy-esque?  How high is too high in a heel for you?  Which are your go-to spots to shop for red shoes?  Which pair would you recommend for Rosie?  Happy Styling!

Style ABC’s (x3): F is for Fergie, Flats, & Forever 21!

is for Fergie, Flats, & Forever 21!

While it took me a long time to finally warm up to Fergie’s style, you can’t deny that the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman has got her look down! She’s confident on the red carpet & knows how to show off her curves. Not to mention that she’s got a killer voice that even landed her the part of Saraghina in Rob Marshall’s Oscar-nominated film,  Nine

Wearing the most fierce LBDs & well-coordinated rock & roll separates, she’s made Style Darling status pretty early on.  AND she has even branched out with her own line of shoes, perfect for making any pair of legs look as sensational as her.  Check out these satin heels, boots, backless animal print platforms, & flat sandals at her website to catch all the latest styles! Also, the multi-talented California native is the face & creator behind one of Avon’s best-selling fragrances, Outspoken

Forever 21 is a retailer sometimes criticized for copying styles & designs created by bigger brand names like Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. However, the fashion world is never without controversy, but all morals aside, this store is one of the most affordable & stylish around for teens & women of all ages. Sure, mini skirts & towering platforms aren’t recommended for all ages & sizes, but here’s a place where you can always find extra pieces to help amp up your look to the next level.  While the store doesn’t offer as wide of a size variety as I’d like for real women who shop at the mall, you can’t ignore the affordability factor, which is why I feature it so much.

You can mix & match these items with any number of other pieces from your favorite places to shop & they’d look just as luxurious & trendy, like the belted flowered skirt with a tucked in white tee for a picnic, a cuffed plaid shirt with the yellow shorts for a day of shopping with girlfriend, the preppy striped cardigan with a pleated skirt & ballet flats for a family event, the one-shoulder top would look awesome with some skinny jeans & suede platforms for a date night, & the black & white dress is a modern & flattering look for the office & happy hour!

No matter what size you are, there are always accessories to add that special finishing touch, including a big cocktail ring for your LBD & satin pumps, a quilted wallet for something in tweed or wool, or a colorful stack of bangles with a maxi dress & strappy sandals! I also love finding cute hair accessories like these clips & bobby pins to keep the cute going from head-to-toe.  And of course, last but not least, these nude platform heels are the ultimate in sexy & cost under $25!

Don’t forget to check out Love21, the stores contemporary & more mature brand, as well as the fashions in the Plus Size department, which includes tops, denim, sweaters, dresses, swimwear & outerwear.  For any expectant mothers out there on a budget, the website offers a maternity department with items costing only as high as $28!

For the men in your life, spruce up their style with some affordable tees, vests, & jackets from 21Men!  If you’re looking to start off your little one (a daughter- duh!) with some serious style, check out the Forever21Girls line with includes so many adorable tops, dresses, & accessories.  If these aren’t on your shopping list, hit up the site’s fun gift items for your next housewarming or bachelorette party!

Even though summer is all about sandals, flip-flops, & showing off your feet, flats in all shapes, colors, & styles work so well for many occasions.

For a quick run to the store, or while I’m having a day of errands, I always turn to my flats, even though I want to be buried with my high heel collection!  They’re classic, especially the ballet flats, so easy to match up with virtually any outfit, & even look great for evenings out on the town.

Try something with some jeweled or studded embellishment, an open toe or d’orsay, a style with floral or patterned details, metallic & animal prints, for your summer look with shorts, an eyelet dress, cut-off capris, or with a romper.

They’re an easy way to look stylish when you’re between pedicures, but also very affordable from stores like Forever 21, Aldo, Charlotte Russe, Steve Madden, Nine West, & Payless.  Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: Get 5 Dresses for Under $100!

I’m always looking for a bargain, so when I thought of The $100 Challenge for the blog here, I was super psyched to find all the ways that one can wear an outfit by budgeting, but not sacrificing style.  And who doesn’t love a dress??  So yeah, this isn’t entirely an outfit, but here were have 5 dresses ranging in price from $11.99 – $24.46, yet if buying all five, for example, you’d only be spending a total of $98.03!

If you frequent stores like Forever 21, you know all about the best sales & when they have items marked down between seasons.  Not to mention their ridiculously affordable prices on shoes, cardigans, & jewelry.  As for New York & Company, you get a discount most of the time just for having a credit card & can earn tons of coupons.  They sometimes even have sales of the whole store being marked down up to 50% off.  I love Mandee‘s coupons & my Mandee credit card b/c you spend so little & get so much, like this adorable animal print dress.  It’s not just a junior’s store- they sell accessories by brands like Steve Madden, XOXO, & Nine West.  @Kohls, there is always an abundance of sales & they give you lots of benefits for having a credit card as well. I love looking at the latest styles by Simply Vera by Vera Wang & LC by Lauren Conrad. The best feeling is when you’re walking out of the store & look down at your reciept to see that you saved more than you spent.  And then there’s Old Navy that’s always having some kind of special, & you get points for having the store’s credit card during each purchase, which you can also use at their sister stores like Gap, Piperlime, Banana Republic, & Athleta. Other stores that I looked at for this blog were H&M, Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe, GOjane, Target, & WalMart.  Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes: Nude Peep Toe Slingbacks by Steve Madden Vs. A GOjane Bargain!

Where can you find adorable nude peep toe slingbacks with a special bow detail to match any spring dress or skirtblousecardigan look?  The answer is easy, at both Steve Madden & GOJane.  However, the difference in price is over $100!  These shoes are all the rage right now & can be worn for any look that you’re planning this spring, including a sexy LBD, WBD, or with your distressed skinny jeans & a bib top for a night out with the girls.  This color of shoes helps elongate a legline & fans of this trend are super Style Darlings like Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, & Cameron Diaz. Check out a few more affordable picks below that follow this trend!  Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Blazers by D&G Vs. Steve Madden!

In for Spring is white… & white blazers do the trick for nearly any outfit!  You’re in luck b/c I’ve found a gorgeous white blazer- make that two.  Clearly, you can see the label in the image to the left, by Dolce & Gabbana‘s D&G brand.  The one to the right is by Steve Madden.  You can then guess which costs nearly $800 & which is affordably under $50.  Of course when it comes to a finishing piece like a jacket, you want to make an investment, but while we’re Style Darlings on a budget, perhaps the Steve Madden one (which can be found at Zappos) is the best choice for your mini skirt, tank, & peep toes.  Check out Net-A-Porter for more fabulous Dolce & Gabbana designs, as well as our previous Style ABC’s (x3) post which features the glam Italian duo!  Happy Styling!
