Fashion Flashback: The Memorable Short Dress & Pants Looks of the Golden Globes!

While I’m a major fan of the glorious ballgown on a red carpet, I’m always fascinated to study the non-traditional choices, which are becoming more & more the norm, including short dresses & pants / jumpsuits / tuxedos on female attendees. There are so many lists & galleries on social media & the internet recalling the best Golden Globe looks of all time, as well as the most extreme. However, let’s take some time to review the non-traditional, which are likely to appear on tonight’s red carpet for the highly-anticipated return of the controversial awards ceremony.

From mini to midi dresses, the red carpet is no stranger to short designs with some sparkle, structure, or volume, especially when making an elegant, playful style statement:

Fashion Flashback: Taylor Schilling’s Shining Style for Her 38th Birthday!

Even before Orange is the New Black, actress Taylor Schilling was making a name for herself in Hollywood & on the red carpet with appearing opposite Zac Efron in 2012’s The Lucky One & the Oscar-winning film Argo. However, most recently, the Emmy nominee can be seen co-starring in Hulu’s awards season magnet, Pam & Tommy.

Taylor’s style is a mix of young & edgy with classic old Hollywood, showing her playful & mature dudes simultaneously with mini skirts, tulip hemlines, pleating, ruching, bright colors, or cut-outs. Today marks Taylor’s 38th birthday & a flashback to her most fashionable looks is in order!

Splurge of Save… On Light Blue Suede Ankle Strap Sandals for Spring!

My goal, as of late, when it comes to my everyday outfits and sharing style tips on Style Darling Daily, is try something new. This includes combinations of separates that I hadn’t thought of previously, as well as only investing in special new additions that not only stand apart from other items I already own, but will also serve multiple purposes. I’ve realized that in the past, I’ve sought out dresses, shoes, & more that thrill me in the moment to add to my wardrobe, without considering their need in the long run. In order to better maintain my closet & finances, I’m being much more careful about how I approach styling.

With that, spring is underway & I’m trying to break away from my usual all-black or only black & white routine. Spring is all about soft, light colors, embracing pastels & brighter hues like nobody’s business. When I was recently perusing through my daily barrage of emails from my favorite stores, I saw a shoe trend that I just couldn’t stop thinking about. Normally, I’m not a trend chaser, sticking to what’s classic & works for my specific body type & daily needs. Ankle strap sandals have always been a little tricky. I haven’t been able to find a comfortable pair in recent years, though I’ve written much about the sleek & delicate style (here), but when I saw that so many different designers & retailers were pitching light blue suede ankle strap sandals for spring, my mind was racing with all the styling possibilities—with dresses, pencil skirts, cropped jeans, & so many more!

It doesn’t hurt to have a little celebirty inspiration when it comes to this particular shoe style, showing all the different colors & ways to wear them. This includes German starlet Diane Kruger, supermodel Kendall Jenner, Oscar-winner Emma Stone, blogger / actress Ashley Madekwe, Orange Is The New Black star Taylor Schilling, & pop star Rihanna.

Tonight’s Emmy awards are already causing a buzz all over the internet, especially among fashion bloggers everywhere. I have nothing but love to show for all the female nominees & presenters on the red carpet. At the end of the day, it’s all about positively celebrating today’s most talented women. However, when it comes to fashion, there’s a legacy about the red carpet & seeing high-end couture & designers’ visions come to life on some of our favorite stars.

Some of my favorites walked the red carpet in California’s sweltering heat to the beat of their own stylish drum, including Scandal star Kerry Washington (in Marc Jacobs), Modern Family star Sarah Hyland (in Zac Posen), a bold January Jones (in  Ulyana Sergeenko), Empire‘s Cookie, Taraji P. Henson (in Alexander Wang), & funny girl Amy Schumer (in Zac Posen).

They’ve bared midriffs & shoulders, played with volume & worked their curves, & upped their style game even more!

Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke was adorable in a sky blue Dolce & Gabbana embroidered shift dress with ankle strap sandals at the Kiss FM Radio studio. It-girl Gigi Hadid showed off her shape in a coral bustier top with a matching pencil paneled skirt, both by Rubin Singer, & nude patent Brian Atwood sandals at The American Diabetes Association’s Father of the Year Awards. Actress & style blogger Jamie Chung was summer ready in an off-the-shoulder Reformation shirt dress with ankle-tie Loeffler Randall sandals at the Sally Beauty Mobile Nail Studio. Designer darling Lily Collins rocked a knotted black tee & a khaki utilitarian button-front midi skirt with a black moto jacket & ankle-tie cut-out booties at a live read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High at the 2015 LA Film Festival.

Miranda Kerr looked sexy in a one-sleeve geometric LBD by Self-Portrait & mesh cut-out booties a Clear shampoo promotional event. Fashion icon Olivia Palermo took a risk in black leather overalls with an off-the-shoulder top, chunky gold collar necklace, Monica Vinader bracelets, Hayward clutch, & mesh pointy toe pumps at the opening of NYC’s Seaport Studios. Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling sported a floral Mary Katrantzou bustier with black high-waisted pants, a pink minaudiere, & patent black pumps at the premiere of The Overnight. America’s sweetheart, Taylor Swift, worked her staple outfit of a black crop top, maroon skater skirt, nude Michael Kors satchel, & black ankle booties after landing at LAX.

The Indian-American designer has been famously worn by the likes of Beyoncé, Leighton Meester, Jennifer Lopez, & Emmy Rossum.
