Top 10 Celeb Sightings: The Gals from Ghostbusters, Glitter, Glitz, & More!

While I’m working on a new essay based on my recent trip to New York City to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Manus x Machina exhibit, my attention has been drawn to the latest & greatest of celebrity red carpet appearances. Just to clarify, I don’t share these celebrity images to praise the thin & privileged, or to negatively reinforce that beauty is supposed to look a certain way (like a white Hollywood actress). I’m inspired by the style in the images below, from sequins to lace to cut-outs to draping to accessories & all that. Not only do I appreciate the craftsmanship of a beautiful garment, but how an outfit is assembled (to me) is like a work of art, setting a tone & inspiring something beautiful with texture & colors.

Oscar-winning actress Alicia Vikander shimmered in a silver Louis Vuitton gown with Bulgari Serpenti jewelry at the Jason Bourne premiere. The Shallows star Blake Lively continued to show off her on fleek maternity style in a salmon lace dress by Jonathan Simkhai (shop similar here) with a Christian Louboutin Paloma bag (shop similar here), Sophia Webster Rosalind crystal sandals (shop here), & jewelry by Anita Ko in New York City. German actress Diane Kruger wowed in a red sheer lace Jason Wu design with a mini nude Chanel clutch (shop similar here) at the premiere of The Infiltrator. Indian beauty Freida Pinto went for a monochromatic all-white look in a beaded embellished top with white leg pants & a menswear inspired jacket by Ralph Lauren Collection & neutral pumps at the Wimbledon Men’s Finals. Julia Stiles showed off her curves in a honeycomb-patterned Rubin Singer halter gown (see runway look here) with jewelry by Amrapali & Jerome C. Rousseau sandals at the European premiere of Jason Bourne.

SNL star Kate McKinnon was all smiles in a blue Versace gown with jewelry by David Yurman (shop similar here) at the Ghostbusters premiere, alongside Kristen Wiig who wore in a pink strapless sweetheart tropical palm print Jenny Packham column gown with pink Irene Neuwirth gemstones. Funny lady Leslie Jones stole the red carpet in a red off-the-shoulder sweetheart Christian Siriano gown with studded ankle strap sandals at the Ghostbusters premiere. Aussie actress Margot Robbie stood tall in an embroidered peach Miu Miu column gown with diamonds by Messika at the London premiere of Tarzan. Melissa McCarthy glowed in a yellow lace floral embroidered 50s inspired A-line dress by Judith B. Swartz & Daniela Kurrle with strappy cream Aldo sandals (shop similar here) at the Ghostbusters premiere.

I love how even after so many years of following celebrity fashion & blogging that I’m still surprised & impressed by what’s happening on the red carpet. I love how classic silhouettes can work for so many different shapes & sizes, proving that fashion can not only be evolutionary, but also timeless. Dressing glamorously isn’t just for the red carpet either. Take some inspiration from these ensembles & try a little extra sparkle for your next night out. Break out some ankle strap sandals to amp up your street style. Don’t be afraid try a head-to-toe color for summer & experiment with white. Which celebrity look is your favorite? Tonight’s Emmy awards are already causing a buzz all over the internet, especially among fashion bloggers everywhere. I have nothing but love to show for all the female nominees & presenters on the red carpet. At the end of the day, it’s all about positively celebrating today’s most talented women. However, when it comes to fashion, there’s a legacy about the red carpet & seeing high-end couture & designers’ visions come to life on some of our favorite stars.

Some of my favorites walked the red carpet in California’s sweltering heat to the beat of their own stylish drum, including Scandal star Kerry Washington (in Marc Jacobs), Modern Family star Sarah Hyland (in Zac Posen), a bold January Jones (in Ulyana Sergeenko), Empire‘s Cookie, Taraji P. Henson (in Alexander Wang), & funny girl Amy Schumer (in Zac Posen).

More beauty was in tow with stars from all side of entertainment, including the highly anticipated star of American Horror Story: Hotel, Lady Gaga (in Brandon Maxwell), Orange is the New Black star Laverne Cox (in Calvin Klein Collection), Homeland actress Claire Danes (in Prada), the always curvaceous Christina Hendricks (in Naeem Khan), Parks & Recreation star Aubrey Plaza (in Alexandre Vauthier), & bride to be Sofia Vergara (in St. John).

There were so many trends lighting up the red carpet, such as pops of colors, chain details, shimmers & sparkles, & much more! Also, among the gorgeous fashion choices were additional favorites like Jane the Virgin breakout star Gina Rodriguez (in Lorena Sarbu), Orange is the New Black‘s Danielle Brooks (in Christian Siriano), The Mindy Project show runner Mindy Kaling (in a belted gold number), Blindspot actress Jaimie Alexander (in Armani Prive), & the always statuesque Taylor Schilling (in Stella McCartney).

The top players of the red carpet & street style have been spotted over the last week, looking all sorts of amazing, mixing up separates & donning combinations of modern & classic in dresses & accessories. They’ve bared midriffs & shoulders, played with volume & worked their curves, & upped their style game even more!

Supermodel Cara Delevingne wore a black & gold floral lace Jenny Packham top with pleated Elie Saab shorts & strappy Mary Jane Nicholas Kirkwood pumps at a Paper Towns photocall. Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke was adorable in a sky blue Dolce & Gabbana embroidered shift dress with ankle strap sandals at the Kiss FM Radio studio. It-girl Gigi Hadid showed off her shape in a coral bustier top with a matching pencil paneled skirt, both by Rubin Singer, & nude patent Brian Atwood sandals at The American Diabetes Association’s Father of the Year Awards. Actress & style blogger Jamie Chung was summer ready in an off-the-shoulder Reformation shirt dress with ankle-tie Loeffler Randall sandals at the Sally Beauty Mobile Nail Studio. Designer darling Lily Collins rocked a knotted black tee & a khaki utilitarian button-front midi skirt with a black moto jacket & ankle-tie cut-out booties at a live read of Fast Times at Ridgemont High at the 2015 LA Film Festival.

Funny lady Mindy Kaling looked radiant in a rose-printed Dolce & Gabbana sheath dress with jewelry by Vita Fede & red d’Orsay pumps on her way to the set of Good Morning America. Miranda Kerr looked sexy in a one-sleeve geometric LBD by Self-Portrait & mesh cut-out booties a Clear shampoo promotional event. Fashion icon Olivia Palermo took a risk in black leather overalls with an off-the-shoulder top, chunky gold collar necklace, Monica Vinader bracelets, Hayward clutch, & mesh pointy toe pumps at the opening of NYC’s Seaport Studios. Orange is the New Black star Taylor Schilling sported a floral Mary Katrantzou bustier with black high-waisted pants, a pink minaudiere, & patent black pumps at the premiere of The Overnight. America’s sweetheart, Taylor Swift, worked her staple outfit of a black crop top, maroon skater skirt, nude Michael Kors satchel, & black ankle booties after landing at LAX.

Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were full of red carpet surprises from veteran A-listers like Cake nominee Jennifer Aniston (in vintage Galliano), Birdman‘s Emma Stone (in Dior Couture), America’s sweetheart Julia Roberts (in Givenchy), Homeland‘s Claire Danes (in Marc Jacobs), & last year’s it-girl, Lupita Nyong’o (in Elie Saab). Also, there were plenty of newcomers who made an impact, including many Orange is the New Black winners like Uzo Aduba (in Angel Sanchez) & Danielle Brooks (in Christian Siriano), as well as Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams (in Self-Portrait).
