British fashion legend Vivienne Westwood passed away today at the age of 81. Her career began in the 1970s, proving relevant every decade with its blatantly refreshing combination of punk meets glam. #RedCarpet Review: All The Looks From The 2015 #Emmys, Including #BestDressed Stars Kerry Washington, Lady Gaga, & More!

Tonight’s Emmy awards are already causing a buzz all over the internet, especially among fashion bloggers everywhere. I have nothing but love to show for all the female nominees & presenters on the red carpet. At the end of the day, it’s all about positively celebrating today’s most talented women. However, when it comes to fashion, there’s a legacy about the red carpet & seeing high-end couture & designers’ visions come to life on some of our favorite stars.

Some of my favorites walked the red carpet in California’s sweltering heat to the beat of their own stylish drum, including Scandal star Kerry Washington (in Marc Jacobs), Modern Family star Sarah Hyland (in Zac Posen), a bold January Jones (in  Ulyana Sergeenko), Empire‘s Cookie, Taraji P. Henson (in Alexander Wang), & funny girl Amy Schumer (in Zac Posen).

Watch This Style: 5 Must-See Movie Trailers Coming This Fall!

This is the time of year when big things start happening. Fashion Week is just around the corner, followed by a stellar awards season for film & television. There are already some major contenders in the awards race, but there are plenty of great films on the autumn horizon with trailers that recently hit the web.

The Intern

The Intern opens September 25th, starring Anne Hathaway, who’s running her own online business & gets a few life lessons from her senior-aged intern, played by Robert DeNiro.

Suffragette

Suffragette is a period drama about women fighting for their right to vote, starring Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep, & Helena Bonham Carter, opening October 23rd.

By the Sea

By The Sea might just be one of Angelina Jolie Pitt’s final on screen films, about a married couple in the 70’s who take a vacation to Malta to save their marriage. The actress not only stars in the movie (with husband Brad Pitt), but she also wrote & directed the drama, which hits theaters on November 13th.

Sisters movie still

Sisters stars Tina Fey & Amy Poehler, following the hapless misadventures of clueless sisters who throw one last party before their parents sell their childhood home, just in time for the holidays on December 25th.

Joy

Joy marks the reunited unstoppable quartet of director David O’Russell, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, & Robert DeNiro in a film that follows a family of four generations, building a family dynasty, opening on December 25th.

Accessories Access: How To Style The New Warby Parker Fall Collection!

New York Fashion Week (#NYFW) is upon us (certainly my favorite time of year), but what’s also exciting is to keep an eye out for the newest collections at our favorite & affordable retailers that don’t preview their designs on a traditional runway. I know when it comes to accessories, I generally lean toward scarves & jewelry, but one important & oh-so fashionable accessory for both men & women is a chic frame of eyeglasses- especially styles from Warby Parker‘s new fall line of eyewear. Hey, guess what? It debuts today! Sporting frames just because you have to is a thing of the past! However, a brand like Warby Parker is a long-awaited trendy gift for those of us with eyes needing assistance. I’ve been wearing glasses for over 20 years & was psyched when I was approached by the company to showcase the new styles right here on Style Darling

Warber Parker collection

In getting to know the brand a little better, I learned so much & was especially impressed with the company’s target unisex audience: “those who own their style, exercise their wit, & add life to the party. Personality is what makes a good pair of glasses great.” Not to mention that investing in one of these 9 new styles (in titanium & acetate), you’ll be investing ($95.00 for a single vision pair) in a good cause since Warby Parker donates a pair of glasses to someone in need with the help of their partnered non-profit organizations. Click here for more info on this very worthy cause!

When I got a good look at the promotional shots & different styles, my blog-ready brain was eager to pair up some of my favorite designs with outfits for various occasions. This includes a relaxed day look for when you’re running errands & an evening outfit, á la Zooey Deschanel‘s lovable character, Jess, on New Girl. Also, I must share my vision for wearing chic frames to the office, as well as when you’re headed out of town for a weekend getaway of luxury & style!

Warby Parker - Hardy Striped Pacific Day Look

My first outfit can be easily recreated with basic wardrobe staples so that the Hardy frames in striped pacific can be the star player. Keeping  a budget in mind, I choose a short-sleeve bike graphic tee ($14.99) in blue from JC Penney & Old Navy‘s flirt skinny jean ($22.00) in eyre. To top off the look, I love the luxe feel of the zippered faux leather moto jacket ($24.80) in camel from Forever 21. Additional accessories to finish off the outfit include the American Eagle ‘Boulevard’ brogue flat ($16.99) in cognac from Payless, Freemont zipper tote ($29.98) in black from Francesca’s, & the Jennifer Lopez textured concentric hoop drop earrings ($13.50) from Kohl’s.

Then switch things up in the evening with a blend of timeless pieces that can be mixed & matched with other separates, especially when paired with the 80s-inspired Coley frames in crystal. This includes the ‘Gorgeous Gems’ dress ($21.99) from Modcloth (now 70% off), cotton slub moto jacket ($39.00) from Dress Barn, & buckled faux suede booties ($29.80) in light grey from Forever 21. For some extra flair, since the Coley frames offer so much versatility, I styled the look with the Mossimo Supply Co. stud belt ($14.99) in grey from Target, a super cute novelty cat wallet ($14.95) in black from H&M, & lastly, Charming Charlie‘s fair & square earrings ($6.00) & big bash stretch bracelet ($10.00) in silver.

Warby Parker - Coley Crystal Night Look

For a professional & polished look when headed to work, I immediately thought of the Oliver frames in striped olive. The hue is spot-on for fall, & perfect for coordinating with neutrals like black, navy, chocolate, & charcoal. I was excited to style these frames with Dress Barn‘s solid cowl neck tank ($19.50) in olive, Jaclyn Smith’s tuxedo style knit jacket ($13.99) in black onyx from KMart, LOFT‘s ponte trouser pencil skirt ($69.50) in black, & DSW‘s Franco Sarto ‘Mumba’ pump ($29.94) in black.

Warby Parker - Oliver Striped Olive Work Look

Accessorizing when it comes to work looks can be tricky, especially when you want to impress your boss & colleagues, which is why I simply added the braided chain bracelet ($9.97) from New York & Company & the diamond texture full tights ($16.03) from Express. Both mixed metals & textured tights are staples for any fall wardrobe & allow for a sophisticated layered & interesting overall look.

Warby Parker - Annette Petal Tortoise Weekend Look

Finally, my absolute favorite new design in the Wary Parker collection is the Annette frames in petal tortoise, which immediately makes me think of spectacle-wearing icons of old Hollywood. These are perfect for the weekend look since they capture the playful side of any Style Darling. I started building the outfit with the patterned cotton shirt ($29.95) from H&M, Old Navy‘s sweetheart gray super-skinny jeans ($34.94) in mudcave, & the Rocket Dog ‘Sayla’ vintage worn boots ($49.95) in mushroom from Zappos. For such a minimal outfit, I wanted to dress it up with some elegant & effortless accessories, which is what a weekend look is all about. For example, the gauzy crinkled infinity scarf ($9.99) from Charlotte Russe works well with the colors in the shirt. Also, I haven’t shared anything with pearls & here’s my chance with the pearl hinge bangle bracelet ($34.00) from BaubleBar & Ann Taylor‘s modern pearlized triangle studs ($29.50) in gold.

And since we’re still on the topic of glasses, I wanted to share some more notable designs in the collection, for their shape, colors, & androgynous appeal:

Warby Parker Fall Collection frames

The above styles include (clockwise, starting at upper left) Baxter Ti in sugar maple, Chandler Ti in English oak, Durand in whiskey tortoise, Greenleaf in woodgrain tortoise, Annette in striped sassafras, & Eli in crystal.

And if looking like a real life Clark Kent or the (insert your hometown here)-equivalent of Tina Fey isn’t enough, here are a few other incredibly attractive famous people to help inspire your frames fetish for fall! Whether you’re trying to recreate a vintage look, sport some menswear inspiration, or play with different trends, eyeglasses are a must-have, as seen on actress Anne Hathaway, musician / singer Alicia Keys, No Doubt frontwoman & fashion icon Gwen Stefani, R&B crooner Ne-Yo, mega hottie Ryan Gosling, & talented boy-next-door Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Anne Hathaway, Alicia Keys, Gwen Stefani, Neyo, Ryan Gosling, & Joseph Gordon Levitt.

Which frames are your favorites? How would you wear some of these new designs? What trends are you most looking forward to during this season’s fashion week? Who are your favorite spec-donning celebs? For more fashionable posts, be sure to check out Emma Stone’s Venice Film Festival looks, buzzworthy music videos from Iggy Azalea & Nicki Minaj, shoe inspiration from Tom Ford, & budget-friendly skirts as seen on Chrissy Teigen & Lily Collins. P.S.: Thanks to Warby Parker for the exciting opportunity to form a marriage of stylish eyewear with Style Darling! 🙂

Red Carpet Review: The 2013 Golden Globes, Featuring Jessica Alba, Tina Fey, Jennifer Lopez, Katharine McPhee & more!

The 2013 Golden Globe Awards are still airing, but I just couldn’t wait any longer to post this very thorough gallery. Some of my favorite looks include Tina Fey (in L’Wren Scott), Jennifer Lopez (in Zuhair Murad), Katharine McPhee (in Theyskens’ Theory), Kerry Washington (in Miu Miu), Emily Blunt (in Michael Kors), Lucy Liu (in Carolina Herrera), Rachel Weisz (in Louis Vuitton), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (in Saint Laurent Paris)… just to name a few!

Top trends included lots of black & gold, as seen on Kate Hudson (in Alexander McQueen), Helen Mirren (in Badgley Mischka), & Nicole Kidman (in Alexander McQueen), as well as reds & oranges like Jennifer Lawrence (in Christian Dior Haute Couture), Jessica Alba (in Oscar de la Renta), Marion Cotillard (in Dior), Claire Danes (in Versace), & Zooey Deschanel (in Oscar de la Renta).

Also, you can’t forget about the black looks, some of which I’ve named in my favorites, but I also loved Julianne Moore (in Tom Ford), Adele (in Burberry), Allison Williams (in J. Mendel), Debra Messing (in Donna Karan Atelier), Sofia Vergara (in a floor-length sequin gown), Eva Longoria (in Pucci), & Salma Hayek (in Gucci).

Lastly, softer nearly colorless colors had their place with Anne Hathaway (in Chanel), Lea Michele (in Elie Saab), Amy Adams (in Marchesa), Amanda Seyfried (in Givenchy), Megan Fox (in Dolce & Gabbana), & Hayden Panettiere (in Roberto Cavalli)!

Basics For A Bargain: Pointy Toe Heels Are Here To Stay, Inspired By Katie Holmes, Stacy Keibler, Miranda Kerr, & More!

While this little Style Darling has been busy with holiday preparations & fighting off a nasty cold, I’ve been finding joy in shoes, pointy toe shoes, more specifically. While perusing through the latest gallery pics of the most recent & fabulous red carpet looks worn by my favorite celebrities, I started noticing that pointy toe shoes have been making a sneaky comeback.  Of course, celebrities have been donning these on & off, but throughout the summer & fall, they’ve been mixing up their looks with towering platforms, round toe pumps, as well as cut-out & deep-vamp booties this season. I decided to feature some affordable pointy toe shoes in classic black, nude, & fun designs for a variety of looks for day, evening, & work.

First off, I wanted to share some celebrity inspiration with nude pumps. Katie Holmes pairs her neutral shoes with a bright magenta Narciso Rodriguez sheath dress & olive trench coat. Kerry Washington softens her leather A.L.C. frock with nude shoes & House of Lavande jewelry.  This is 40 star Leslie Mann is all smiles in a knotted coral number with a luxe cream coat.  Singer / actress Mandy Moore offsets her stunning cobalt asymmetric dress with a colorful Bvlgari clutch & super pointy shoes.

It didn’t take very long to find some affordable counterparts, without having to break the bank.  This includes Forever 21‘s patent & faux leather pump ($27.80) in tan with a 4 1/2-inch heel, perfect for elongating your legline.  I also recommend the Madden Girl Tartt pumps ($34.99) in blush patent from 6PM, which are currently 30% off from their original $50 price tag.  Of course these shoes are perfect for any dress look, making any pair of gams long miles long, but they’re also especially flattering with skinny jeans & a tunic top, leggings & an oversized sweater, or a 70s-inspired jumpsuit.

As for the basic black pump, a pointy toe is edgy when matched with feminine frocks, & they can even dress up the most basic of outfits.  Tina Fey shows off her digital printed top with skinny pants, whereas Kate Bosworth mixes her pumps with a sophisticated Emilio Pucci peplum dress.

Maria Sharapova plays with separates, including a floral Zimmermann top, Tanya Taylor skirt, & Iwona Ludyga earrings for her Giuseppe Zanotti pumps. The svelte Stacy Keibler looks long & lean in her wool & leather Monique Lhuillier suit while walking the red carpet at the VH1 Divas show. Clearly, black pumps are an essential for any wardrobe, including the Nine West Love Fury pumps ($47.99), as well as the Dianna pumps ($39.95) by Diba from DSW.

Lastly, if you’re going to wear pointy toe pumps, there are some occasions when a fun & flirty shoe is a must-have.  Make an unexpected move by going monochromatic like Miranda Kerr‘s all-white look at an event for Mango, or get wild with something textured like Sarah Jessica Parker‘s Jean-Michel Cazabat snake embossed pumps which well-coordinated with her vintage Estevez dress & Fendi bag.

Rashida Jones plays with color in her slim leg cobalt suit, Peter Pilotto blouse, Jimmy Choo clutch, & Dana Rebecca Designs jewelry.  Lastly, Olivia Wilde makes her sexy leather head-to-toe look even more enviable with spiked Christian Louboutins & a House of Lavande ring.

For a splash of sass, I looked for pointy toe pumps with some color & personality.  @Charlotte Russe, I found the patent pointed toe pump ($25.50) in hot pink, which will pop against any all-black look, or bring out the best from a watercolor print dress.  Also, since it’s the holiday season, add a little sparkle to your pump with the Robidoux ($27.99) in bright multi from Aldo. Try these with a classic LBD, leather jacket & mini skirt, or sweater dress & tights.

Which pointy toe shoes do you like? How much do you usually spend on footwear? Do you prefer pointy toe or round? Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2012 Emmy Awards Featuring Zooey Deschanel, Sofia Vergara, Hayden Panettiere, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This is a first for Style Darling. The 64th Annual Emmy Awards are currently airing & I’ve been scouring the web for the last 45 minutes to put together a complete gallery of the fabulous red carpet looks. Some of my favorites include Zooey Deschanel in a princess-like Reem Acra look, Julie Bowen in neon Monique Lhuillier, Claire Danes as a blushing mom-to-be in Lanvin, & Christina Hendricks in a belted design by Christian Siriano. Who are you rooting for? I’m a big fan of Girls, so keep an eye out for the very multi-talented Lena Dunham! Check out the gallery & share with readers which looks are your favorites! Enjoy the show! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards (PART ONE)!

Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were a red carpet dream come true, filled with florals, belted looks, sparkles, brights, & enough black & white to go around.  Oscar de la Renta was the most worn designer & the stars were frosted in names like Fred Leighton, Neil Lane, Chopard, Lorraine Schwartz, & Swarovski.  Scroll your mouse over each image to see who’s wearing which designers.

My favorite of the night was an unexpected ballerina-inspired pale pink Monique Lhuillier ruffled number that Angie Harmon wore, although some may say that its beauty was Oscar-worthy & too overdressed for this event. With that, here we have the ladies wearing blush & pink showing off their femininity & boldness.  We saw a splash of pink at last month’s Golden Globe awards with Claire Danes, Lea Michele, & Megan Fox.

We can see that Jennifer Lawrence‘s whirlwind award’s season is only getting better after her ruffled Louis Vuitton pick.  I can’t wait to see what she’ll choose to wear at the Oscars- she’s nominated for her gritty performance in Winter’s Bone.

We saw Christina Hendricks & January Jones showing off their love of red, but here we have four looks (including one demure burnt orange, a little warmer than Emma Stone’s coral) proving that no gorgeous color or design can clash with the red carpet at this event if you’re confident.  Tina Fey‘s red Oscar de la Renta was a most unexpected choice for the usually conservative comedienne, but I’m sure critics will love her bold choice, especially after last year’s stunner. For more on Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2011 collection, click here.

Other nominees lit up the red carpet with thier elegant choices, embracing a deep crimson, magenta red, & a pretty pumpkin.  These rich colors make for incredible photographs & remind us of how truly stunning the female form can look in a column-inspired gown.  Whather cinched at the waist or knotted for a Grecian-style, these dresses made each starlet look like a tall glass of glamour!

Everybody was dying to see what glowing mother-to-be Natalie Portman was going to wear & she turned this white Azzaro number into a ridiculously chic maternity gown that would put red carpet moms-to-be like Angelina Jolie, Heidi Klum, & Naomi Watts to shame. White was definitely on-trend with Amy Adams & a creamy Rosario Dawson presented her own interpretation as well! Winona Ryder‘s Alberta Ferretti creation reminded me so much of a modern-day version of this famous Marilyn Monroe dress.

It isn’t a true awards show without some sparkle.  Bejeweled looks have been a staple for the red carpet in recent years, as we’ve seen on Sandra Bullock, Claire Danes, & Cameron Diaz.  Adding glistening touches to dresses with color was a popular trend too!  It must’ve been winner & Oscar-bound actress Melissa Leo of The Fighter who stole the sparkle show with a fitted golden number & a plunging neckline.

While other sparkles were subtle & elegant, none could quiet compare, but we have to give it up to Eva Longoria & Jayma Mays for their stylish efforts.  We could look forward to some of these fabulous ladies at the upcoming Oscar ceremony- that’s for sure!

Glee stars Lea Michele (keeping with her Globes Oscar de la Renta choice) & Naya Ramirez were on hand to lend some youthful glow to this parade of glitters.  We can see the diversity in a plunging neckline, a modest one-shoulder, spaghetti straps, & a short-sleeved dress in a hint of periwinkle.

Well, there’s really only so much fashion a girl can handle, but I’m excited to report that tomorrow’s post will contain the dark, black, & purple dresses (like Dianna Agron), as well as the risk takers of the night (including one of my favorites- Claire Danes!).  Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2010 Emmy Awards, Featuring Claire Danes, Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian, & More!

It was obvious that the small screen stars were bringing the larger than life glamour to the red carpet for Sunday’s 62nd Emmy Awards.  All the leading ladies of television were following the trends of black, white, navy, & one-shoulders.  Let’s just start with my absolute favorite of the night. Instantly, I knew that this would be a crowd-pleaser, guaranteed to be published in fashion magazines across the world. Claire Danes, pictured below, in a shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive strapless mermaid dress.  Already it is listed on InStyle‘s Look of the Day.

Surely, Monday night’s presentation of E!‘s Fashion Police will agree with me.  Regretfully, I didn’t get a chance to see the beautiful & talented Claire in the HBO movie Temple Grandin, for which she was nominated, but as soon as I saw this dress, I knew she was going to win for Best Lead Actress in a TV Movie.  Just like when Charlize Theron wore her gold body-hugging Gucci gown to the 2004 Oscars, winning for her role in Monster, & Sandra Bullock wore her gold / silver Marchesa dress to this year’s Oscars, winning for her role in The Blind Side.  A gold dress is a winner’s dress! As for the black trend, I was surprised b/c not many stars take the tricky color under consideration.  Of course, black done the right way is slimming, but for such an elegant affair, to risk losing some of its detail & beauty in photographs is where black goes wrong sometimes.  Anyway, take a look here at Julianna Margulies in L’Wren Scott, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Eva Longoria-Parker in Robert Rodriguez, Julia Louis Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez, & Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward Couture:

I guess you can’t have black dresses without the white ones & there was no shortage of that at the Emmy’s also.  White was a favorite among celebrities with figure flattering designs, metallic embellishments, & gorgeous hair. Here we have the white selection with Rose Byrne in Gucci, Kim Kardashian in Marchesa, Julie Benz in Pamella Roland Resort 2010, Brooke Burke, & Amber Riley:

An equally regal & stunning choice was navy on the red carpet.  Lea Michele told Ryan Seacrest that she hadn’t worn blue lately & it reminded her of the summer midnight sky.  The romantically decadent color was found in all shapes with dramatic ruffles, ruching, & Grecian draping.  My favorite picks for navy are Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta, Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum, Julie Bowen in J. Mendel, Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa, Edie Falco, & Connie Britton:

Lastly, a trend that’s been all over the runways & red carpets for a few years now that’s always a flattering choice is the one-shoulder look.  The celebrities who embraced this were Emily Blunt in Christian Dior, Jane Lynch in Ali Rahimi, Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier, Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad, Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan, & Cheryl Hines in Zac Posen:

Although I didn’t mention this in my intro, I’d like to point out the risk-takers, in my opinion, who both rocked their looks & maybe didn’t succeed as they’d hoped, but still, they deserve some praise.  I’m not saying that I don’t like these looks, but for me, they qualify as risk-takers.  Whether they were experimenting with lace, beads, prints, shape, or hemline, they stole the attention on the red carpet for just a little bit longer than the rest. Check out Diana Agron in Carolina Herrera, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Jane Krakowski in Escada, January Jones in Atelier Versace, Rutina Wesley, Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera, Jewel in Zuhair Murad, Kristen Wiig, & Maria Menounos in Ralph & Russo:

My predictions on the gowns that will be most knocked off are: Claire Danes’ Armani Prive, January Jones’ Atelier Versace, Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa, Emily Deschanel’s Max Azria Atelier, Heidi Klum’s Marchesa, & Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez.  Also, my only gripe with the whole evening was the absence of past favorites like the cast of Grey’s Anatomy & Desperate Housewives.  Stars like Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl (well, not anymore), & Ellen Pompeo, as well as Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, & Teri Hatcher were always interesting to watch on the red carpet, but alas, a new generation of Gleeks, reality show stars, & vampires have invaded the scene.  Happy Styling!
