The 2013 Oscars are just starting & there’s so much to talk about from tonight’s red carpet, including the anticipation behind the performances from the cast of Les Miserables, as well as the tribute to the James Bond series. Some of my favorites so far include Naomi Watts‘ high fashion look from Armani Prive, Reese Witherspoon‘s classic old Hollywood Louis Vuitton cobalt gown, Zoe Saldana‘s two-tone fishtail gown by Alexis Mabille, & Sandra Bullock‘s lace-detailed Elie Saab gown.

Other notable hits include Jessica Chastain (in Giorgio Armani), Nicole Kidman (in L’Wren Scott), Jennifer Garner (in Gucci), Kerry Washington (in Miu Miu), & Charlize Theron (in Dior Haute Couture). Not to mention that I predicted Jennifer Lawrence‘s Dior Haute Couture gown as an Oscar pick in my recent post, which is nothing short of fabulous when it hit the red carpet!

Who wore your favorite looks? Which nominees are you rooting for? Are you excited to see performances by Adele, Norah Jones, & Jennifer Hudson? For more from this year’s awards season, check out more from Red Carpet Review including the Golden Globes, Grammys, BAFTAs, & SAGs! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review / Runway Rundown: Style Darling’s Top 20 Best Oscar-Worthy Gown Predictions!

We’re less than a month away from the 2013 Academy Awards & the SAG Awards are this weekend! The speculation behind the results inside those envelopes & what the nominees are going to wear have been bouncing around all over the web & for the first time, I’m going to share my fashion predictions, based off the Pre-Fall 2013, Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear, Spring 2013 Haute Couture, & Resort 2013 collection runways. Of course, Oscar-nominated celebrities like Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams & Naomi Watts are subject to one-of-a-kind custom-made haute couture gowns, but it’s been a lot of fun to click around & find the most gorgeous gowns that wowed on the runway. In addition to the nominees who are celebrating their achievements in film, possible presenters like Rachel Weisz, Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lopez, Emily Blunt, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner & more will be turning heads on the red carpet.

Surely there will be lots of glitz & glamour, but predictions of trends are hard to tell. There was so much going on at this year’s Golden Globes, including black, black & gold, white, pink, long sleeves, cut-outs, high slits, & nude illusions. Starting off is a gold lamé & embellished gown from Michael Kors Resort 2013 Collection, which was recently featured in a Runway Rundown post. From Carlos Miele‘s Resort 2013 Collection comes this beautiful embellished sweetheart gown with an animal print under-lining. Some might call the white & black-leather accented Emilio Pucci dress from the Pre-Fall 2013 Collection is too safe for the Oscars, but I think it’s a modern & refreshing take on a white gown.

Michael Kors, Carlos Miele, Emilio Pucci, Monique Lhuillier, & Jenny Packham.

For the risk-taking Style Darling, I can see the metallic long-sleeved gown from Monique Lhuillier‘s Pre-Fall 2013 Collection making an entrance on the red carpet. I picked this tangerine Jenny Packham Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear Collection gown b/c of its unexpected color, but on the right skin-tone, it will certainly set some trends on the red carpet for the rest of the year.

Next, we have a floral-embroidered belted gown by Temperley London, which was featured in the Pre-Fall 2013 Collection. This has a very classic, Zooey Deschanel look to it, which is why I loved including it! Badgley Mischka is a name synonymous with red carpets & perhaps we’ll see this all-over embellished metallic gown from their Pre-Fall 2013 Collection on one of the front-running Oscar nominees. One of my favorite designers forever & always is Marchesa & I wasn’t surprised to see so many red carpet candidates in their Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear Collection, including this sari-inspired sheer-overlay blue & gold confection.

Temperley London, Badgley Mischka, Marchesa, Collette Dinnigan, & Roberto Cavalli.

I love the feminine softness from the short-sleeved Collette Dinnigan gown from the Resort 2013 Collection. The coral / fuchsia hue is perfect for an ingénue like the ever-changing Dakota Fanning or the retro Krysten Ritter. Roberto Cavalli‘s black sequined & lace overlay corset-structured gown is a stunning choice for a more dramatic look on the red carpet & it’s from the Pre-Fall 2013 Collection.

Designs by Alexandre Vauthier made a style statement at the Golden Globes since both supermodel Heidi Klum & Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery both donned looks, but I picked this leg-baring halter gown from the Spring 2013 Haute Couture Collection. J. Mendel‘s Pre-Fall 2013 Collection was a dreamy mixture of texture, detail, flowy fabrics, & strong silhouettes, including this lace-accented spaghetti strap gown with off-the-shoulder tiers. Also, Giambattista Valli‘s white & gold ball gown took my breath away from its Spring 2013 Haute Couture Collection & would certainly wow fashion critics if worn on Isla Fisher, Julianne Hough, or Kerry Washington.

Alexandre Vauthier, J. Mendel, & Giambattista Valli.

Valentino, Christian Dior, & Elie Saab.

There ought to be room on any red carpet for a Valentino red gown, like this strapless & effortless gown from the Spring 2013 Haute Couture Collection. Also, Christian Dior‘s Spring 2013 Haute Couture Collection featured the pink puffy mermaid ball gown. In addition, someone like Diane Kruger or Zoe Saldana can wear an floral-embellished, dramatic gown like this from Elie Saab‘s Spring 2013 Haute Couture Collection.

After Lucy Liu‘s splash at the Globes in Carolina Herrera, I knew I had to look further into her Pre-Fall 2013 Collection, which included this gorgeous black & white graphic print gown, perfect for fans of the label including Renee Zellweger, Emmy Rossum, or Olivia Wilde.  Next, from Oscar de la Renta‘s Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear, this aqua tiered dream of a gown is borderline bridesmaid, but the color is just so pretty & it reminds me of the Romona Keveza ball gown that Kaley Cuoco wore at last year’s SAG Awards.

Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen, & Jason Wu.

You can’t have a look at the best from the runway without talking about American designer, Zac Posen, & his Pre-Fall 2013 Collection, which is a dramatic statement that will change the way black gowns appear on the red carpet. Lastly, a daring look for the Oscars comes from Jason Wu‘s Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear Collection & perhaps a young starlet like Emma Watson would wear this will some extra lining to fill the skirt since the ceremony is so formal.

Top 10 Celeb Sightings: Ladies Love Black, Including Krysten Ritter, Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Greene, & More!

Now that the Golden Globes have been analyzed to death, we can look forward to the stars celebrating awards season in between shows (we’ve yet to see what’s going to happen on the red carpets from the SAG Awards & Oscars!). However, a big trend at the Globes was the color black & it seems it has returned to the red carpet & the celebrities are loving it! I’ve always been a fan of a classic LBD, but here we see all sorts of black making a major statement.  This includes my favorite looks from Krysten Ritter in a peek-a-boo dress & then Krysten Ritter again in a Dior jacket with a pencil skirt & Brian Atwood shoes.  Also, other favorites include Ashley Greene‘s leather peplum look, Scarlett Johansson‘s Dolce & Gabbana outfit with Irene Neuwirth earrings, & Miranda Kerr‘s continuously enviable street style, accessorized by Givenchy & Barbara Bui.

I’m also sharing looks by Anne Hathaway in a striped dress ensemble with a Stella McCartney faux leather bag, Elisabeth Moss‘ leather look with leopard pumps, Emmy Rossum in a sweet polka dot dress by Theia, Naomi Watts‘ appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in a Roland Mouret LBD with Rupert Sanderson sandals, & Renee Zellweger at a Hugo Boss event in Berlin in a halter dress with Christian Louboutin spiked pumps.

Style ABC’s (x3): C is for Cardigans, Camilla Belle, & Carolina Herrera!

is for cardigans– one of my all-time favorite pieces for any outfit.  While most stylists (like What Not To Wear‘s Stacy London & Clinton Kelly) say that jackets & blazers really finish off a look, I find (for my personal style) that cardigans are what makes your look a little more polished, preppy, & feminine.  They’re super comfortable & great for layering when you want to add dimension to basics like a pullover tee, lacy tank, or jersey dress.  For more ornate & detailed tops like a patterned blouse & tiered skirt, a solid cardigan is your best option. For a solid sheath dress & neutral pumps, add a cardigan with subtle ruffles or special details to create more luxurious texture.  I always rely on stores like New York & Company, Forever 21, & White House Black Market to find trendy pieces to mix & match for a variety of occasions.

Camilla Belle may not be known by mainstream audiences for her movie roles just yet, but the child actress turned red carpet darling has been making headlines in the fashion world in designs by Carlos Miele, Ralph Lauren Collection, Dior, & the late great Alexander McQueen.  With her striking, dark features like unconventionally thick & dramatic eyebrows & sun-kissed skintone, she may just be the next Sarah Jessica Paker!  No longer with longtime beau, Joe Jonas, this Los Angeles-native is showing off her sexy & elegant single girl style.  For a full dossier on Camilla’s red carpet looks, head to In Style‘s Star Finder, Style.com, & The Fashion Spot.  I can’t wait to see what the 10,000 BC star will be wearing next!

Carolina Herrera is one of those designers that you can almost recognize when a celebrity wears one of her dresses.  With famous followers like Renee Zellweger, Amy Adams, & Emmy Rossum, it’s no wonder that Herrera is one of today’s most sought after designers for red carpet events like the Golden Globes or the Oscars.  Take a look at Renee in this strapless blue & gold sparkly princess gown at a German awards show, as well as Glee‘s Dianna Agron wearing a strapless jacquard & organza dress at the 2010 Breakthrough of the Tear awards in L.A.

As for Herrera’s runway collection, every gown, dress, & separate screams screen siren in a vintage Hollywood kind of way that only Herrera knows how to capture.  If you’re interested in shopping this designer’s very decadent Spring 2011 Collection, check out Shop Style for direct links & prices for items sold at Bergdorf Goodman & Saks Fifth Avenue, ranging from $495 into the thousands! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: My Favorite Past Oscar Styles!

It’s Oscar night & I’m dying over darlings like Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, & Reese Witherspoon‘s dresses on the red carpet.  Keeping it classic & timeless, effortlessly glamorous, & oh-so gorgeous is what a night like this is all about.  I decided to take a quick look back at my top ten favorite looks from previous years at the Academy Awards.  Among my favorites are designers Oscar de la Renta, Versace, Valentino, & Carolina Herrera.  I have a thing for some glitter, but also frills & clean lines are always amazing trends to show off at an elegant occasion such as this.  Take a look (at these, of course which are in no particular order) & lemme know which are your favorites?

Last year Cameron Diaz wowed in this gold princess gown by Oscar de la Renta.  She usually goes a little more eccentric, having worn a red Alexander McQueen gown for the Globes just weeks before, but thanks to her famous stylist, Rachel Zoe, this dazzling gold confection of elegance stole the red carpet.  Gold was a big theme at the show as winner Sandra Bullock showed off her embroidered Marchesa column gown.

Kate Hudson showed off some serious sparkle power at the 2003 ceremony in this Atelier Versace hand-sewn gown.  This look is listed among In Style’s 10 Best Oscar Dresses ever & is probably one of my favorite worn by the actress. She is also a client of Rachel Zoe’s, who has taken more risks in recent years on the red carpet, like for last years Globes in a white feathered Marchesa & her teal Gucci number at the 2009 People’s Choice Awards.

Keeping with the glamorous glitter theme so far, Diane Lane appeared at the 2003 ceremony in Oscar de la Renta.  Having seen the feathers for tonight’s show with Hilary Swank & Sharon Stone, I have to say that the gown is one that transcends time.  At the 2009 ceremony in ruched black Chanel & her white Azzaro gown at the 2004 show were just as gorgeous in the truest movie star fashion.

Renee Zellweger‘s Carolina Herrera gown for her 2004 win for her performance in Cold Mountain is one of those dresses that you just look at & know that a winner is wearing it.  Recalling the vintage elegance of Grace Kelly & the star power of Marilyn Monroe, this is one of Renee’s finest appearances in fashion.  Always a fan of Carolina Herrera’s designs, 7 years later, the actress even wowed in this sparkly gown for a German awards show.

Cate Blanchett‘s 2007 Armani Prive marcasite gown was a dramatic revelation against the usually ruffled & mainstream looks that we see on the red carpet.  Always a risk taker, we even saw her on tonight’s red carpet in a pastel beaded Givenchy gown that even wowed fashion icon & Oscar commentator Tim Gunn.

Keira Knightley was nominated in 2006 for her lead role in Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice & showed up in this merlot Vera Wang gown & Bulgari necklace.  She was certainly the best dressed of the night & took the trend of statement jewelry to a new level.

Kate Winslet is a consummate favorite at the Oscars, having won two years ago for The Reader, I have to say that nothing pleases me more than seeing a pistachio dress draped in such a sophisticated way over a truly beautiful talent.  This Valentino dress helped make the 2007 ceremony a memorable night, as I recalled the sari-inspired Valentino dress that Jennifer Lopez wore in a similar shade in 2003.

Penelope Cruz showed up this year’s Oscars just weeks after giving birth, but when she took home Oscar for her performance in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, she looked like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn.  This vintage Balmain bridal-inspired gown pulled at every fashionista’s heartstrings.  She looked like an absolute princess that night & this is probably one of my favorite Oscar looks ever.  In previous years, she was very elegant in Versace and forward thinking in Chanel, but for this pivotal moment in her career, she looked flawless.

2009 was also a dazzling year for Sarah Jessica Parker in this belted princess Christian Dior.  Embodying all things Carrie Bradshaw & the whimsical way that Sarah Jessica has stolen our fashionable hearts off-screen, this is one of the most quintessential princess gowns that I’ve ever seen.  Critics didn’t embrace her 2010 look for the ceremony, but she’ll always be turning heads no matter where she goes.

Demi Moore impressed fashion critics last year in her strapless silk organza ruffled gown by Versace.  Rachel Zoe was once again behind this look, which was a far cry from Demi’s 1989 shorts look that made In Style’s Most Unforgettable Oscar Looks.  Seeing this dramatic actress in such softness put her among the best dressed & was a lovely departure from her usually darker looks.

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Renee Zellweger’s Golden Globe gown!

After this week’s Golden Globes, I started thinking about some of my favorite gowns from previous years.  Back in October, I posted a luxury look-alike of Renee Zellweger from back in 2000 when she won for Nurse Betty

This vintage sweetheart Jean Desses gown made all the headlines b/c of its gorgeous yellow hue.  The Oscar winner set the trend for wearing yellow on the red carpet- in January.  Stunners like Reese Witherspoon, Mariska Hargitay, & Angelina Jolie have since (& perhaps inadvertently) followed.  This look-alike (to the left) is still on the market for purchase! And if yellow is on your mind, check out these gorgeous yellow gowns!

If you’re determined to find a yellow gown, might I suggest some of these gorgeous accessories to add special touches of sparkle & splashes of glamour to the sunshine hue.  Break out some bling in silver or gold, which will definitely pop against a bright white.  There’s always the fun combination of yellow with red, like mustard & ketchup.  Here’s where a cocktail ring really comes into play.  If you’re going for a fierce bumble bee black & yellow theme, try bringing in your black with some glitter in a clutch.

Although there was no yellow at this year’s Golden Globes, all 11 years later, it’s one of those colors that always catches our attention.  Always cheerful & playful, yellow keeps appearing & as long as it’s fabulous, you can count on Style Darling to share it.  For example, check out a shoe search for a friend’s upcoming wedding shoes in yellow… I wonder what ever came of that search?  Keep a look out for some more Luxury Look-Alike posts about this year’s Golden Globe ceremonies.  I’ve already seen Mandy Moore & Sofia Vergara‘s gowns knocked off.  Maybe you’ll see them too!  Happy Styling!
