10/21/2013 Darling Of The Day: Kate Middleton Repeats A Timeless Striped Top!

Kate Middleton in a striped Ralph Lauren top, J Brand skinny jeans, a Smythe blazer, & Stuart Weitzman wedges. The world has its eyes on the one & only Kate Middleton, especially since her post-baby appearances have not only inspired new moms, but because her red carpet & street style are continuing to wow fashion critics. Just last week, the Duchess of Cambridge showed her sporty support at a SportsAid Athlete Workshop, wearing a striped Ralph Lauren top, Smythe blazer, J Brand skinny jeans, & Stuart Weitzman wedges. However, the nautical-inspired stripe trend isn’t just for summer & Kate shows this by repeating her look this season.

The fall take on stripes recalls a Parisian look, making any casual separate like a pair of dark denim jeans, skinny pants, or pencil skirt a little more elegant. Some suggestions to pull off an autumn-friendly striped outfit include the following three tops: the Alice + Olivia striped stretch jersey long sleeve top ($40.97) in black & white from Bluefly, Forever 21‘s striped baseball tee ($12.80) in navy & cream, & the striped button shoulder top ($34.00) in navy from Dress Barn (available in sizes Small – 3X).

Bluefly - Alice + Olivia striped long sleeve top $40.97. Forever 21 - Striped baseball tee $12.80. Dress Barn - Striped button shoulder top $34.00.

Magazine Must-Haves: Kate Mara’s Playful Dramatic Photo Shoot For ELLE!

When flipping through the pages of next month’s ELLE magazine, I was pleased to see Shakira returning to the spotlight as the magazine’s cover girl. However, in the pages of the fashion mag, I was most intrigued by he 12-page photo shoot & accompanying article on House of Cards actress Kate Mara, whose stylish red carpet appearances & career on both the big & small screen has always seemed to catch my eye.

Of course, I’ve learned that the actress, who formerly co-starred in the first season of American Horror Story as Dylan McDermott’s psycho dead mistress, comes from NFL royalty, & was the first of the Mara sisters to hit up Hollywood with acting dreams. However, Kate proudly talks about little sister Rooney who snagged her first Oscar nomination for her gritty portrayal in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Also, Kate discusses her role as Zoe Barnes & working with acclaimed director David Fincher on the Netflix series, House of Cards, alongside Kevin Spacey & Robin Wright.

The shoot features plenty of enviable high fashion looks from designers like Valentino, Chanel, Rag & Bone, Dior, Ralph Lauren Collection, Donna Karan New York, Prada, Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, J Brand, Calvin Klein Collection, Versace, & Louis Vuitton. What makes this an especially interesting fashion shoot is the combination of luxe labels with novelties like stuffed animals, adorable puppies, & showcasing the difference stellar accessories make for an ensemble.

Top 10 Celeb Sightings: More Menswear, Strategic Panels, & Black-White Looks, Featuring Cameron Diaz, Diane Kruger, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Now that the Cannes Film Festival has ended, we can all (sort of) relax for one fashionable minute & get back to reality with stream-lined red carpet looks. For this latest Top 10 Celeb Sightings gallery, I’ve been noticing trends that don’t seem to go away, including menswear, as seen on Jennifer Lopez in a Bec & Bridge shirt with J Brand jeans & statement hot pink peep toe Christian Louboutin booties while sightseeing in London. Actress Brit Marling  downplays her natural beauty with black & white separates. Also, Diane Kruger takes a stroll in Malibu with a flirty take on the trend with a button-up mini skirt & printed top, all made feminine by a 3.1 Phillip Lim bag.

Dresses with paneling are popular too, showing off a curvy shape, or revealing some skin in an elegant way like Emmy Rossum‘s Bibhu Mohapatra dress, Rose Byrne‘s blush frock by Emilio Pucci at the premiere for The Internship, & Christina Ricci in a Thakoon LBD while showing support for the Fresh Air Fund. Lastly, my favorite looks include the ones with a pop of personality, like Kerry Washington‘s Calvin Klein Collection black shift dress with sexy leopard print pointy toe pumps at the Variety Emmy Studio, Cameron Diaz‘s all-white ensemble by Roland Mouret with ankle strap sandals at a Tag Heuer bash in Monaco, the ageless Salma Hayek-Pinault in a leather design by Bottega Veneta while dining in Venice, & finally, Olivia Palermo‘s favorite colorblocked picks from the latest collections found on Piperlime.

Which celeb has the best style? Which trend do you prefer? Menswear? Sheer panels? Or black & white looks? Super Style Wishlist: Elizabeth & James Accessories & J.Brand Jeans from Madison Los Angeles!

I recently spent a couple of days home from work with a bad case of the sniffles (thank you, sinus infection!), but that didn’t stop me from curling up in bed with my laptop, in search of some great style inspiration!  I meandered over to Madison Los Angeles, a website known for selling luxury brands like Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Vivienne Westwood, & Halston Heritage.

I put together this super chic look for a professional or night affair.  A jacket can do wonders, especially over such a bright & sparkly top- & here at Style Darling, we do not shy away from sparkle!  The Sass & Bide By The River Tee ($192.00) can be mixed with any number of bottoms, including a pencil skirt, tucked into something denim, or worn with leggings & knee boots.  For this look, I went with a dark wash J.Brand 10″ Tonal Jeans Dynamite pair ($192.00) because they’ll really allow for the top to pop!  The Parker Cropped Jacket  ($415.00) has enough flair to cover up the very loud top, but also created interesting proportions since it’s short than the top.

As far as accessories go, I love the look of the Matt Berson Grey Jardin Ankle Booties ($230.00).  They’ll tuck the jeans in just enough & help elongate the legline.  The Mulberry Alexa Bag ($1200.00) is the perfect hue to contrast all the neutrals going up against the glittery top, but also adds some more texture & it can hold all of your favorite daily necessities that you carry around!  While you’re out & about, running from meeting to meeting or fittings to happy hour, the Elizabeth & James Lafayette Sunglasses in Tortoise ($158.00) make for an old Hollywood way to protect your eyes from the sun.

Since there’s already so much going on with this look in terms of shine, I picked subtle pieces of jewelry, including Jacquie Aiche Oxidized Starburst Studs in 14K Gold ($650.00).  Whether your hair is up or down, these studs are just the right bit of polish to add some personality to the already posh duds.  Lastly, Lucky Star Jewels ‘Ivana’ Stretch Ring ($70.00) is a gorgeous cocktail ring to wear for an after work affair, meeting with the girlfriends to chat about your day over martinis.

The total for this look comes to over $3100.00 (insert jaw-drop here), but pieces like a sparkly tee, dark wash skinny jeans, gray ankle boots, & a cropped jacket can be found for much, much less at stores like Kohl’s, Topshop, H&M, Avenue, Payless, & Forever21.  Again, this category is just for the dreamers… We know this is out of our budget, but there’s nothing wrong with seeing what’s out there in the style world from which we can be inspired!

Be sure to check out all of the posts in Super Style Wishlist & if you love luxury finds, but can’t afford them, take a look at Luxury Look-Alikes for Less to see how you can wear identical styles without paying too much!  Happy Styling!

Super Style Wishlist: A Fashionable Fall Blend of Alice + Olivia, House of Harlow, & Much More!

Even though I’ve gracefully cancelled my birthday this year (tomorrow), I am going to showcase a very special edition of Super Style Wishlist with items that I actually really do want, although I wouldn’t ask my friends to spend this much money on me.  I spent a little time clicking around Revolve Clothing, an online fashion retailer that sells brands like Miss Sixty, Betsey Johnson, KORS by Michael Kors, & William Rast (just to name a few).

Since fall is just around the corner, I love the idea of mixing textures & playing with different patterns when it comes to sparkly tops & accessories like shoes.  Take a look at what I’ve put together for a stylish, but casual day look that could easily turn into a party with friends look.  I loooove the Alice + Olivia black sequin stripe top, which can be mixed with jeans for day, trousers for an interview, or a pencil skirt on a date.  Between the sequins & the stripe design, it’s not hard to bring out the glamour in your look if this is your top!  On bottom, I selected J Brand skinny twill pants in green (my favorite color). Colored jeans are soooo on-trend right now & you can find look-alikes at stores like Forever 21 & Delia’s.  Also check out a recent Darling of the Day post where Kerry Washington donned some skinny red jeans.

One trend that I love for this time of year is an animal print accessory & what better way to do that than with a peep toe pump by House of Harlow?  I love the very graphic look of this print, which gives animal inspiration a whole new & fresh feel.  The natural color in the shoes is what helps bring out the richness of other accessories too.  You can’t go anywhere without a functional tote these days either.  For example, take a look at the Foley + Corinna timber tote, which serves as both handbag & shoulder bag with two different handles.

Speaking of accessories, I’m in the market for some new jewelry & I love this multi-chain necklace by Belle Noel.  It’s dainty & edgy, adding some extra flair to my already polished look.  If you wanna take an outfit like this & get it ready for a last-minute night out, you gotta have one extra piece of bling.  That comes in the form of the large triple crystal ring by Low Luv X Erin Wasson.  The very deco feel of it can help transform any look for a cocktail party or a stylish drink with the girls. Even though it is a statement piece of jewelry, it’ll compliment the sparkle in the top!

Lastly, for when the afternoons start to get chilly, keep your look urban & a little bit preppy with a cotton duster by Free People.  It’s perfect to go over a sweater, blouse, graphic tee, or button-down shirt. To create a more fitted look, throw on a belt, but since there’s already so much going on with the color of the jeans & the animal print in the shoes, try a thin belt in a neutral color like black or taupe.

Your total for a look like this would come to… $1514.00! While all the pieces are super stylish & any Style Darling would be lucky to receive them as a gift, just imagine what you can invest your money in with that much cash?  Would you spend that much on this look?  Have you ever purchased from Revolve Clothing in the past?  Do you like this colored jeans trend?  What’s on your wishlist?? Happy Styling!

4/20/11 Darling of the Day: Drew Barrymore in J Brand & Catherine Malandrino!

Drew Barrymore looks red hot in this rock chic outfit for the book launch of The Beauty Detox Solution. In J Brand jeggings, a shredded Catherine Malandrino leather jacket, & beige top, she plays up an edgy feel with feathered earrings, a layered pendant necklace, a chunky watch, & embellished clutch. Looking every bit a Style Darling, these pieces are perfect for your next party event if you wanna skip a cocktail dress or for a night out with friends.

These pieces are perfect for mixing it up, like the heels with some cropped cargos or the long, feather earrings with a jumpsuit

Try a belt over the tee with a wrap skirt & loafers!  Or break out your embellished clutch for a night out in a two-tone dress.  Happy Styling!
