Watch This Style: Finally! Rooney Mara’s Short Film For Calvin Klein’s Downtown!

Rooney Mara for Calvin Klein's Downtown fragrance

Back in May, I posted the debut image of Rooney Mara for Calvin Klein‘s newest fragrance Downtown. Now, the brand has released the short film for the perfume, directed by Girl with the Dragon Tattoo visionary David Fincher, which features a rarely cheerful leading lady. The black-&-white minute-long film hits up the subway, dances with children, & wears the most gorgeous of fashions all to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song, “Runaway.”

Cover Craze: Kate Mara’s Playful Dramatic Photo Shoot For ELLE!

When flipping through the pages of next month’s ELLE magazine, I was pleased to see Shakira returning to the spotlight as the magazine’s cover girl. However, in the pages of the fashion mag, I was most intrigued by he 12-page photo shoot & accompanying article on House of Cards actress Kate Mara, whose stylish red carpet appearances & career on both the big & small screen has always seemed to catch my eye.

Kate Mara for Elle July 2013 01

Of course, I’ve learned that the actress, who formerly co-starred in the first season of American Horror Story as Dylan McDermott’s psycho dead mistress, comes from NFL royalty, & was the first of the Mara sisters to hit up Hollywood with acting dreams. However, Kate proudly talks about little sister Rooney who snagged her first Oscar nomination for her gritty portrayal in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Also, Kate discusses her role as Zoe Barnes & working with acclaimed director David Fincher on the Netflix series, House of Cards, alongside Kevin Spacey & Robin Wright.

The shoot features plenty of enviable high fashion looks from designers like Valentino, Chanel, Rag & Bone, Dior, Ralph Lauren Collection, Donna Karan New York, Prada, Michael Kors, Giorgio Armani, J Brand, Calvin Klein Collection, Versace, & Louis Vuitton. What makes this an especially interesting fashion shoot is the combination of luxe labels with novelties like stuffed animals, adorable puppies, & showcasing the difference stellar accessories make for an ensemble.

For those of you who didn’t know.. The CDFA Fashion Awards are like the Oscars in the world of fashion design. This week, the festivities took place, honoring the best in fashion with a stunning red carpet, which included lots of sheer panels, cut-outs, ankle-strap sandals, & bare backs. Winners of the night included Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler as Womenswear Designer of the Year, Thom Browne for Menswear Designer of the Year, & Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim for Accessories Designer of the Year.

Of course, the red carpet was dripping with models like Karlie Kloss in a black deep-v Cushnie et Ochs dress, a golden Karolina Kurkova in a Michael Kors shorts outfit, Adriana Lima showing off her legs in a sheer Givenchy dress, & Miranda Kerr looking as flirty & pretty as ever in a printed Proenza Schouler dress with strappy shoes.

Some of my favorite celeb looks were no-brainers like Kerry Washington‘s ode to Beauty & the Beast in a yellow Jason Wu gown, Nicole Richie‘s slinky gold Marc Jacobs dress, Sofia Vergara‘s plunging, emerald Hervé L. Leroux gown, an adorable Hailee Steinfeld in a floral print Suno dress, & Kate Mara‘s black lasercut Dolce & Gabbana dress with Irene Neuwirth jewelry.

Red Carpet Review: This Year’s Cannes Film Festival, Featuring Nicole Kidman, Carey Mulligan, Rooney Mara, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The Cannes Film Festival is still underway; however, I’ve been ravenously collecting a slew of glamorous day & evening looks from the event’s red carpets, including premieres / screenings, press junkets, & parties. Some of the most buzzed about films are being celebrated overseas, including The Great Gatsby, As I Lay Dying, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Bling Ring, & Inside Llewyn Davis. Jennifer Lawrence has been in out & about in several head-to-toe Dior looks. It’s also no surprise that Gatsby actress Carey Mulligan has been making headlines with a series of black & white minimalist ensembles from Vionnet, Balenciaga, Dior Haute Couture, & Chloe.

Other favorites include Nicole Kidman who is promoting Grace of Monaco, where she portrays the always enchanting Grace Kelly. The Aussie Oscar-winner has been staying loyal to her classic elegance with a touch of flair in a leather belted Calvin Klein dress, Alexander McQueen LBD, dreamy Dior Haute Couture tea-length dress, & fun printed column gown by L’Wren Scott. A star who I’ve been keeping an eye out for, especially from earlier this month at the Met Costume Institute Gala, is Rooney Mara who continues to share her androgynous sense of femininity in Vera Wang, Calvin Klein, & Giambattista Valli.

Be sure also to check out the gallery since I’ll continue to add more images to it, including looks by Ziyi Zhang, Freida Pinto, Emma Watson, Isla Fisher, Jessica Biel (especially in Marchesa), & more! Which has been your favorite look so far? Which movies are you most excited to see from the festival? For more from Red Carpet Review, check out previous posts including this week’s Billboard Music Awards featuring Kelly Rowland & Miley Cyrus, mini dresses on Anne Hathaway & Alexa Chung, black & white looks from Gwyneth Paltrow & Kate Beckinsale, & Revenge actress Ashley Madekwe’s Topshop jumpsuit outfit.

Ad Madness: Rooney Mara Is The Face Of Calvin Klein’s New Fragrance, Downtown!

Rooney Mara has certainly cemented her status in fashion, especially after co-chairing this year’s Met Costume Institute Gala with Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci. Now the Oscar-nominated actress is the latest face for Calvin Klein‘s new fragrance, Downtown. The cool, edgy scent is geared towards a 25-35 woman, which can be seen in the upcoming, yet-to-be-seen David Fincher-directed TV spots. The print ads were photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, featuring a fresh-faced leather jacket-wearing Rooney, leaning against a brick wall.

Rooney Mara for Calvin Klein's Downtown fragrance

I am very excited to be included in the group of amazing women that have been featured in the iconic advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein fragrances. It’s an honor to be part of a brand with such a legacy of breakthrough advertising. The Downtown fragrance holds true to the chic, confident and simple feeling of the Calvin brand,” says the actress about the perfume which will be featured in 3,000 department stores nationwide.

For more celebrity ads, check out previous posts including Diane Kruger’s short film for Jaeger Le-Coultre, Beyoncé’s new ad campaign for H&M, Marion Cotillard for Lady Dior by Dior, Kate Winslet for Lancome, & the latest from Kate Moss for Stuart Weitzman! Happy Styling!

Color Me Style: Winter White Dresses Inspired By Rooney Mara, Nicole Richie, & Runway Looks Of Michael Kors, Rachel Zoe, & More!

Winter white is a big trend right now, especially when it comes to LWD (little white dresses). I’m a big fan of dresses- no surprise there- but I’ve yet to find a winter white dress that works for me. Whatever I have is definitely too summer-friendly in eyelet, cotton, or linen, however I’ve been very inspired by what’s happening on the latest runways when it comes to feminine white looks, featuring dresses of skirt outfits.

For example, take a look at the chic cocktail & casual white dresses, which were shown for seasons other than winter, but are certainly inspiring fashionistas everywhere. These looks include Rachel Zoe Spring 2013 Collection‘s shimmering shift dress, J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2013 Collection‘s old Hollywood sweetheart dress, Michael Kors Spring-Summer 2013 Collection‘s button-down shirt-dress, a slitted peplum dress by Marios Schwab Spring Ready-To-Wear 2013 Collection, the strapless bow-bedecked dress from Christopher Kane‘s Spring Ready-To-Wear 2013 Collection, Erin Fetherston Pre-Fall 2013 Collection‘s sheer lace mini dress, & Hervé Léger by Max Azria Pre-Fall 2013 Collection‘s belted body-conscious frock.

Rachel Zoe Spring 2013 Collection, J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2013 Collection, Michael Kors Spring-Summer 2013 Collection, Marios Schwab Spring Ready-To-Wear 2013 Collection, Christopher Kane Spring Ready-To-Wear 2013 Collection, Erin Fetherston Pre-Fall 2013 Collection, & Hervé Léger by Max Azria Pre-Fall 2013 Collection.

In addition, some of the most photographed stars have been hitting the red carpet in the last month while wear white dresses. Side Effects actress Rooney Mara hit the premiere of her latest film in this flower-embellished dress by Alexander McQueen, which she paired with neutral patent leather Nicholas Kirkwood peep toe pumps. This month’s Self magazine cover girlEmmy Rossum, took a break from promoting her new album, Sentimental Journey, in Santa Monica in this pleated Andrew Gn dress with sparkling pumps. Everywhere it-girl Kerry Washington attended an after-party for Django Unchained in a white lace Dolce & Gabbana shift dress with pointy toe Christian Louboutin stilettos.

Rooney Mara, Emmy Rossum, Kerry Washington, Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, & Nicole Richie.

Award-winning singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift, hit the blue carpet for the  40 Principales Awards in this plunging Kaufmanfranco three-quarter sleeve design with mixed-fabric sandals by Christian Louboutin & geometric drop earrings. Everyone’s favorite girl-next-door & Gangster Squad star, Emma Stone, helped announce this year’s Oscar nominees in a belted 50s-inspired dress by Andrew Gn with black patent leather pumps. Lastly, the always polished Nicole Richie stepped out for a party in Los Angeles in this white zip-up m ini dress with embellished leather accessories by Salvatore Ferragamo.

For the budget-conscious Style Darling, I wanted to find pieces that are perfect for wear now in the winter, given some mixing & matching of accessories, as well as dresses that’ll work for the upcoming spring season, although that seems to be getting further away from us on this Groundhog’s Day.  The first is the sheer sleeve lace dress ($24.80) from Forever 21, which would be perfect with black opaque tights or neon pops of color in a belt or pointy toe heels. Next, for a curve-hugging dress, I found the long & lean dress ($19.00) from Venus, which will also pair nicely over leather leggings & under a plaid button-down. While white is sometime bridal-looking, it can also be worn to work, like with this sleeveless ecru ponte sheath dress ($39.99) from White House Black Market.  I’d recommend wearing it with a red blazer & loafer-detailed pumps.

white dresses & accessories

I found this simply sweet & feminine shirt dress ($29.95) from H&M, & it’s the perfect foundation for a metallic braided belt, patent leather accessories, or classic lace & pearl details.  Lastly, for my plus-size readers, I was so happy to find this modern Alyx belted twist neckline dress ($40.00) from JC Penney, which is available in sizes 14W-24W.

White is such a stunning & pure color for a dress, but I was successful in searching for white accessories that will make any all-white, monochromatic, or trendy printed look stand out for every occasion. There’s never any reason why you shouldn’t have a pair of white shoes on hand, which is why I’m suggesting the pointed silver toe pumps ($32.50) from Charlotte RusseC Label Divine flats ($19.99) from 6PM, & the Wentzell pumps ($44.98) from ALDO shoes. Also, I’ve selected the patent skinny belt ($29.50) from Banana Republic, bejeweled bib necklace ($12.80) from Forever 21, & the Jennifer Lopez gold tone disc drop earrings ($12.00) form Kohl’s.

Which white pieces are your favorites? Would you wear a winter white dress now? How do you like to wear white? Which celebrity look do you like the best? For more Color Me Style posts, check out monochromatic looks in coral, neon, berry, & teal inspired by Penelope Cruz, Victoria Beckham, & more, as well as all-black outfits featuring Jennifer Lawrence & Kate Moss, & the best of yellow as seen on Kate Mara, Lauren Conrad, & Olivia Palermo! Happy Styling!

Cover Craze: Rooney Mara Is Vogue’s Fresh-Faced February 2013 Cover Girl!

Rooney Mara for Voue February 2013

It won’t be long until we see Rooney Mara back on-screen with her The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo co-star Daniel Craig in the film’s sequel, The Girl who Played with Fire; however, last year’s Oscar nominee is featured on the cover of Vogue‘s February 2013 issue. The minimalist beauty is promoting her latest film, Side Effects, opposite Channing Tatum, as well as discussing her upcoming gig as co-host to this year’s Met Costume Institute Gala which is themed, “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” with friend & designer Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy fame.

Red Carpet Review: Top 10 Style Darlings To Watch For 2013!

Miranda Kerr, Solange Knowles, Jessica Chastain, Emma Stone, Rooney Mara, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Olivia Wilde, Malin Akerman, Ashley Greene, & Freida Pinto.

It’s now the final week of 2012 & fashion critics everywhere are compiling their lists of the best looks & best dressed throughout the year. Of course you have the A-listers like Anne Hathaway, Angelina Jolie, Rihanna, Diane Kruger, & Jennifer Lopez who always make a fashionable entrance, but I wanted to share my list of the Top 10 Style Darlings To Watch For 2013, meaning the gals who’ve made their mark on 2012, but still have a lot to share for the upcoming year.  This list includes, in no particular order, Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr, singer / DJ Solange Knowles, stage & screen siren Jessica Chastain, America’s latest sweetheart Emma Stone, Oscar-nominated Rooney Mara, the pillowy-lipped Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, former House star Olivia Wilde, blonde bombshell Malin Akerman, Twilight starlet Ashley Greene, & Indian beauty Freida Pinto.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr has single-handedly reinvented street style for the mom-on-the-go. Avoiding leggings & oversized tunic sweaters, she’s busting her gams in towering heels, skimpy shorts, classic pencil skirts, & modern looks to show that everyday is a runway.  Here we see the Aussie in a belted white dress by Willow while taking in Sydney. She shows off her tough side in a biker jacket, green sweater by Acne, Tabitha Simmons lace-up booties, & a chic Christian Louboutin bag while in New York. The model isn’t afraid of matching prints in this Helmut Lang shorts suit, paired with Tabitha Simmons ankle strap sandals. Miranda certainly knows how to dine in style in a sultry pewter column gown at the Gramercy Park Hotel.  Lastly, she’s effortless in a Balenciaga printed skirt matched with black separates, including an enviable Givenchy tote bag.

Solange Knowles

News of Beyonce’s baby girl, Blue Ivy, might have started off 2012, but it was little sister Solange Knowles who really made it a year of newsworthy style. She plays with prints & proportion, never afraid of letting her personality show, often experimenting with bright colors. Just last month the singer partied in Miami in a Kenzo sheath dress with transparent sandals. She plays with colorblocking in this demure red & black ensemble with a sparkling tote back & bow bedecked heels. For a garden party at the MoMa, Solange’s floral separates show off her feminine side, especially with killer nude Casadei pumps. While celebrating a Ferragamo event, the talented DJ wears colorful separates by the designer, along with tons of perfectly coiffed curls.  Lastly, one of my favorite looks includes the printed Vera Wang peplum dress that she donned with matching heels for the Runway To Win Launch Party.

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain epitomizes what a modern-day movie star should be & she’s quickly climbing the fashion ranks with such a spectacular 2012 in front of the camera. She always brings out the nonstop glamour with every frock, cocktail dress, & gown that she wears- & they definitely don’t wear her.  It was hard to narrow down five of her best looks since she’s yet to hit on a red carpet slump, but I love the green Karen Caldwell sheath dress paired with suede bold Barbara Bui slingbacks & Harry Winston earrings for an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this year.  She went for an all-black sparkling gown with green Bochic earrings, which was to die for against her alabaster skin & rich red hair.  At New York’s Beacon Theatre, this transparent beaded Marios Schwab dress caused quite the stir, but looked radiant with Harry Winston earrings & Giuseppe Zanotti satin heels. It’s rare that we see the Oscar-nominated actress in separates, but I love the look of her Kirna Zabête for Target ensemble, including a printed blouse, full blue skirt, black blazer, & peep toe heels.  Lastly, for the opening night of her run on Broadway in The Heiress, Jessica wowed in a yellow lace Stella McCartney design with nude Christian Louboutins

Emma Stone

Emma Stone has been playing up her red & blonde locks on the red carpet, especially for the promotional tour for The Amazing Spider-Man, which catapulted this girl-next-door into super stardom.  Everyone in Hollywood wants to be her friend & everyone else is coveting her wardrobe.  This includes the two-tone jeweled design by Burberry with a sparkling green pencil skirt & ring by Jennifer Meyer.  Emma’s bubble gum pink Valentino dress worn with the houndstooth pumps by Ferragamo was the match of the year in this feminine take on menswear-inspiration.  For a premiere, she wore a party-worthy Chanel dress with Cartier jewelry & Christian Louboutins to finish the look.  Emma not only sports a dress like no other, but she’s taken risks like this luxe black Elie Saab jumpsuit in London, as well as her Gucci suit with t-strap heels & emeralds by Tiffany & Co. for the People’s Choice Awards.

Rooney Mara

Rooney Mara not only kicked butt on-screen in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, but she made one heck of a red carpet debut while promoting the film. Her minimalist style was a refreshing & much-needed dose of reality on while showing that you can be edgy & feminine at the same time.  Her blunt bangs have set a trend, as well as her unforgettably mysterious look, mixing progressive silhouettes with that ambiguously flirty stare.  Most recently, Rooney stepped out in Dubai in a custom sculptural dress by Calvin Klein.  She showed off her love of primary colors in this green Louis Vuitton cocktail dress for the Santa Barbara Film Festival.  For the Oscar nominees luncheon, she mixed a jumpsuit from ASOS with a chic white blazer by Thierry Mugler.  When in Rome, Rooney choose a ravishing red gown by Valentino, clad soft lace details. Last, she continues her sometimes androgynous look with a jacket by Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci, mini skirt, & ankle strap heels by Louis Vuitton.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is a regular featured in my posts for Red Carpet Review & Top 10 Celeb Sightings b/c she always gets it right. She’s turned heads not just b/c of her beautiful face & rocking body, but she brings a whole new level of taste to the red carpet as a model-turned-actress.  She’s got movie-star looks & isn’t backing down from any opportunity to steal the spotlight, especially in the stunning two-toned cocktail dress by Burberry with metallic cap toe heels.  One of my favorite looks of the year includes her green ruffled column gown by Gucci, topped off with Jennifer Meyer jewelry & white ankle-strap heels.  Also, Rosie smoldered in a lace overlay design by Jason Wu with a sleek updo, black pumps, & a deep lip color.  She knows how to work a trend, including the leather-detailed peplum dress with contrasting cap toe pumps.  Finally, her street style is pretty amazing too, especially the Stella McCartney printed mini dress with a Jason Wu tote, Alexander Wang sandals, & Burberry sunglasses.

Olivia Wilde

Olivia Wilde was all the talk last year & she’s lived up to her last name in 2012 with a series of looks only a chameleon could pull off.  The green-eyed actress is slated for more than a dozen films in the next few years & she looks happier than ever.  She’s a designer’s darling & can work any number of looks, including Old Hollywood, boho chic, contemporary bombshell, & so on.  Whether she’s blonde or brunette, she can pull off a sleek LBD like this red-belted A.L.C. design paired with pointy toe red pumps.  She looks ethereal in a silver embellished Carolina Herrera gown with a leather Jimmy Choo clutch.  Olivia has made cocktail dresses look renewed again with this lace-trimmed frock by Prada, & I love the contrasting tone peep toe Aperlai slingbacks. She’s not afraid of playing with shapes, as seen in the Calvin Klein caped dress that she wore with strappy sandals & a House of Lavande ring.  Lastly, she’s even effortless in L’Wren Scott separates with bowed Christian Louboutins at a premiere in New York.

Malin Akerman

Malin Akerman mixes her sunny smile with one of the biggest trends of the year: leather.  She’s not afraid of blending her beachy blonde locks with the rock-friendly material, while constantly showing off her love of separates & classic black.  There’s always a retro feel in everything she wears, including her plunging leather vest & leggings with a printed clutch by Barbara Bui & pointy toe Aldo pumps.  She plays with shape in the leather-accented peplum top with trousers by J. Mendel, studded Walter Steiger pumps, & bangles by House of Lavande.  At the Los Angeles premiere of Nobody Walks, Malin wore this classic-cut LBD in leather by Boss Black with a Stephen Webster cuff & suede peep toe heels.  In support of designer Vena Cava, she wore the brand head-to-toe including flared printed trousers & a leather clutch.  Last, the Swedish import looks nothing short of gorgeous in a high slit Cushnie et Ochs tangerine gown with a Coach clutch & sandals by Tibi.

Ashley Greene

Kristen Stewart might have been the talk of the town b/c of her affair & cheating on Rob Pattinson, but it’s Ashley Greene who’s emerged on top of the whole Twilight Saga, what with landing a campaign gig with DKNY & hitting every major red carpet looking bit a lady. She’s got the pose down & has designers in her back pocket, never failing to look age-appropriate, as a good role model for young actresses.  At The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere, Donna Karan Atelier custom-made this one-shoulder blush gown for the actress, which she accessorized with Bvlgari diamonds.  While attending a premiere in Los Angeles, Ashley sported another custom gown by the fashion house in fuchsia with jewelry by Kimberly McDonald. She sure knows how to play up her shape, especially in this nude Emilio Pucci dress with a statement necklace by Karine Sultan, a studded Christian Louboutin clutch, & Casadei pumps.  Back in February at the Loveisrespect launch party, she choose black & white for this sequined Oscar de la Renta frock with Cathy Waterman jewelry.  Last, she surprised in a peach lace design by Yigal Azrouel with suede pumps.

Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto is probably one of my favorite stars to emerge over the last few years since her debut in Slumdog Millionaire.  She’s so beautiful & brings a fresh vibe to many of her red carpet looks.  Whether she’s walking at Cannes or attending press events, she’s nothing short of sophisticated & youthful, all with the flash of her smile.  At the Dubai International Film Festival, she accents her Sam & Lavi printed dress with layered necklaces by Lindsay Vallan & Roger Vivier sandals. Black on black has never looked so chic than on Freida while promoting Desert Dancer in a black AllSaints blouse with skinny jeans & heels.  She mixes eras in a black & white collared top with a ruby red skirt by Contrarian New York & classic Louboutin pumps.  When viewing the Ferragamo show at the Louvre, she donned a beaded dress by the label with a shimmering box clutch & satin pumps. Earlier this year, she played with color in an Yves Saint Laurent bustier with a pencil skirt & satin platforms.

Super Style Wishlist: Italy & Miu Miu & Black & White… Oh My!

During my recent trip to Italy, I passed two different Miu Miu storefronts, one in Florence & another in Venice.  The brand has been on my mind lately, especially after seeing the gorgeous window displays of the luxury designs, as well as seeing an image of Oscar nominee, Rooney Mara, at a recent press event in Berlin, promoting her career-making film, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, wearing a Miu Miu design.

However, I wanted to check out some of the latest styles from the brand & fell in love with these black patent leather t-strap platform pumps ($1981.00) available @Bluefly.  They’ve been reduced in price from their original $2467.00 tag, but are still a little out of reach for me.

Black & white never goes out of the style & even though I don’t own or wear t-strap shoes, I can see these perfectly paired with a number of different looks.  While the weather is a little chilly, the patent leather would pop against an opague tight with an art deco-inspired sheath dress.  Also, these are darling for a cocktail party in a halter dress, or even for a more polished affair with a pencil skirt & cardigan- very sexy librarian!

Do you have your eye on a Miu Miu piece? Do you like t-strap shoes? What would you wear these with? Happy Styling!
