Last night’s 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards celebrated the fashion industry’s giants with bold, maximalist styles on the red carpet. During the ceremony, rock star Lenny Kravitz was fittingly awards Fashion Icon, while stylist Law Roach was honored with the Stylist prize—makes sense given he’s behind everything gorgeous that Zendaya wears.

What makes summer one of my favorite seasons of style is the accessories! There are so many options to choose from, especially when you’re headed out for a day on the boardwalk or getting away for the weekend. Totes, flip-flops, belts, & kimonos come to mind, but also, floppy hats are such a fun way to add some flair to your look, while also protecting your skin from the sun. Check out some summer floppy hat inspiration from stylish celebrities like Vanessa Hudgens, Freida Pinto, Miranda Kerr, Suki Waterhouse, Jessica Alba, & Jennifer Lopez.
Summer accessories don’t have to be an expensive investment either, especially when so many retailers offer a great variety of fashionable options, including classic floppy hats (& some with a twist).
When it comes to summer, there are so many prints that make for a fashionable look, but among them, gingham gets top billing! The typical gingham button down is classic for a variety of outfits, but this summer is all about the trendy, off-the-shoulder, ruffle, or halter gingham top available for shoppers of all sizes! Celebrities even love gingham, as seen on Baby Driver star Lily James, style blogger Olivia Palermo, singer / actress Vanessa Hudgens, A-lister & fashion mogul Reese Witherspoon, & Shameless actress Emmy Rossum.
For a trendy, one-season item like a gingham top, you don’t have to break the bank. There’s so much fashion out in the world & online for shoppers of all budgets, but I do love checking out high-end designer duds for a little inspiration when it comes to finding something to write about, as well as putting together my next outfit. Here are a few examples that range in price from $88 – $265, but still worth keeping an eye on for an end of the season sale item.
The six gingham tops below are much more affordable & perfect for styling with white skinny jeans, red chino shorts, a denim skirt, or with bottoms in a bold pop of color like yellow, green, or orange.
Which summer trends are on your wardrobe wish list? Do you prefer the black, navy, or red gingham color scheme? Where are you shopping for summer favorites? Happy Styling!
Last night’s #MetGala at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art honored Asian-inspired fashion with Anna Wintour‘s latest exhibition, China: Through the Looking Glass. In attendance were top A-listers from the realms of fashion, music, Hollywood, & more, wowing on the red carpet & showing support for the art of fashion. Some of the greatest risk takers of the night included Rihanna in a stunning over-the-top gold design by Guo Pei, Beyoncé‘s barely there shimmering gown by Givenchy, Jennifer Lopezwho showed off her best assets in a Versace design,Sarah Jessica Parker‘s collaboration with H&M & a masterfully crafted Philip Treacy headpiece, the always elegant Kerry Washingtonin a pink Prada confection, & Anne Hathaway‘s futuristic & sleek hooded gold gown by Ralph Lauren.
Of course, there are plenty of glamour & daring fashion feats in the slideshow below to feed your celebrity red carpet style obsession. Who wore your favorite look? Will you be headed to NYC to check out the exhibit? Who missed the mark on the red carpet? Happy Styling!
I’m all packed & ready to hit the road tomorrow for a highly anticipated break from reality while attending a very intense, yet chic Writer’s Conference out in Southampton for the next eleven days… which means that posts may be sparse for the rest of the month. However, I wanted to leave readers with plenty of inspiration, including some of my favorite celebrity looks who are toting head-to-toe white, black & white ensembles, & fall-ready designer booties that I can’t wait to put on my own feet! My top picks include Salma Hayek Pinaultin a printed Christopher Kane dress with seriously stylish Giuseppe Zanotti booties. Also, there’s much to talk about with the usually belly-baring Rihannawho couldn’t look cooler or more casual, as well as supermodel Karolina Kurkova in elegant menswear-inspired separates & Kristen Wiigin a Viktor & Rolf shift dress at an NYC screening for her new film, Girl Most Likely.
One of the best ways to beat the sun this summer is to break out a hat! Not to mention, hide your hair if you’re a beach gal or just ending a day at the pool. Here we have five examples of stylish, but affordable hats, all perfect for whatever look you’ve got going on!
While I myself am not a hat gal, I do love natural looking ones in straw like this chained banded basketweave hat, available @Forever 21. It is ultra chic for a (summer) LBD with some metallic platform sandals if you’re headed to an outdoors occasion. Keeping with the decorative bands, if you’re feeling animal-inspired, check out the zebra banded fedora from Wet Seal for only $7.99! If you’re a country girl looking to snag a cute cowboy, then maybe the beaded straw cowboy hat from Charlotte Russe will do the trick with a plaid cotton shirt & some cutoff denim shorts! For a day on the boat with friends, try canvas floppy hat to protect your eyes while rocking a babydoll dress & flip flops. This fashionable Old Navy find is marked down to $10.97! If you’re a lady about town, check out this white straw cloche hat from Target to go with a sheath dress & long string of pearls, very roaring 20s!
For more stylish inspiration, check out how Vanessa Hudgens, Rihanna, Kate Beckinsale, & Kate Hudson wear hats on & off the red carpet! Happy Styling!
Get ready, get set, Go! There must a race of style at this year’s Cannes Film Festival because there’s an abundance of ravishing beauties hitting the red carpet in names like Calvin Klein, Salvatore Ferragamo, Monique Lhuillier, Marchesa, just to name a few. Today we’re celebrating the many, many highs on the red carpet, at the movie premieres, & for photo calls. Check out In Style’s Photo Gallery for a more detailed look at all the stars attending this ultra glamorous event. Let’s take a look at first & foremost, the scene-stealers, the true best of the best. These are the looks that celebs wear for which red carpets are made!
Diane Kruger is my current favorite Style Darling! The model-turned-actress is experimental when it comes to fashion. Not to mention that she is effortlessly chic, especially in this gorgeous Calvin Klein shimmering gown that looks like flowing liquid medal against her enviable shape. Rachel McAdams really surprised me with this intricately detailed in a red lace Marchesa number & Veronica Lake hair. I just can’t get over how it makes her look like such a movie star. Salma Hayek Pinault can’t go wrong in a silver Gucci Premiere strapless gown. It hugs her curves in all the right ways & she looks like a princess! Uma Thurman is a tower of pure elegance in a white feathered Versace sweetheart gown. In no way does she wear it like a bride, but as an accomplished & stylish movie star. I’m not usually a fan of Tilda Swinton, but I do respect her passion for fashion. This navy satin Haider Ackerman gown is so regal, very feminine, & timeless!
Additionally, there was quite an impressive slew of international beauties, including Mexican beauty Salma Hayek Pinault in a leather Gucci dress with a hand-painted flower shrug (kind of recalled Jennifer Lopez at the Met Costume Gala), Indian actress Aishwarya Rai in navy & white silk strapless bustier Giorgio Armani Prive, & British import Cheryl Cole (who was recently named the latest judge on Simon Cowell’s The X-Factor) wearing a plunging Stephane Rolland gown with gold accents on the belt.
Australian star of Sucker PunchEmily Browning (who appears twice more in this blog) wears a sweet deep-v embroidered Valentino creation in nude, & fellow Aussie Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska in a Roland Mouret column gown & drop earrings!
Last, but not least, Canadian sweetheart Rachel McAdams switched it up in a Monique Lhuillier embellished bustier top & matching wide leg pants. The Salvatore Ferregamo clutch & stacked bangles make this a chic & modern way to show up at a formal event. There aren’t many women who can pull off a pants look on such a prestigious red carpet, but Rachel hits a homerun!
Some of the photo calls during the day called for the stars to face the press in very chic & elegant day looks. These include Cannes stunner Tilda Swinton in a two-piece look that virtually everyone can wear. A loose-fitting blouse tucked into a pencil skirt with flower-accent Roger Vivier heels. Rachel McAdams was front & center in an uber-feminine bright white flower Maxime Simeons dress with peep toe pumps by Salvatore Ferragamo. Mia Wasikowska brought some sweetness in a lace Valentino pleated dress with beige strappy sandals.
Uma Thurman stayed with white once again in a slimming Dolce & Gabbana dress with silver Jimmy Choo sandals. Emily Browning brough some color to the mix in a jungle print Louis Vuitton tube dress & nude peep toe platforms. Angelina Jolie celebrated Kung Fu Panda 2 in a beige chiffon wrap dress with a leather belt & round toe pumps, a throwback to vintage Hollywood, but still very modern & minimalist.
At night some of the stars hit yet another red carpet wearing some of the best of the best designers. Sarah Jessica Parker showed up to support a Weinstein Company press event in a belted Dolce & Gabbana with an embellished belt & layers of pearls (very Carrie Bradshaw)! Somewhere at the celebrity-riddled circuit was a Calvin Klein sponsored bash which featured Uma Thurman in black, Vanessa Hudgens in yellow lace, & former Gossip Girl co-star Clemence Poesy in a color block shift dress, all designed by the label.
Check back with my Red Carpet Review for more upcoming events, as well as series of blogs for the Costume Gala! Happy Styling!
Looking ready for spring, Vanessa Hudgens rocked the black & white trend with some well-accessorized jewelry pieces & Mimi Plange metallic trousers. In addition, while attending a party at Hollywood’s Soho House, her black tank & animal-inspired sandals are the great foundation to build any look. This is great for work with a short-sleeved blazer, or a date night with a bold cardigan.
Affordable & blingy extras like this ring, bracelet, & necklace can be found at stores like Wet Seal & Forever 21. Of course Vanessa could mix & match gold & white gold pieces or gold & silver ones since she’s got such a neutral background of black & white to work with. A look like this can be worn with an animal print accessory like a headwrap or flashy neon sunglasses. Happy Styling!
