Red Carpet Review: The Best Beauty, Hair, & Jewelry from the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Including Jenna Ortega, Selena Gomez, Anya Taylor-Joy, & More!

I don’t know about you, but I haven’t stopped my standing ovation for Angela Bassett–not only for her history-making win for Best Supporting Actress in Any Motion Picture for her outstanding role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at last night’s 80th Golden Globe Awards, but for her entire head-to-toe look. As soon as I saw her silver glistening Pamella Roland halter gown, I said, “That’s a winner’s dress,” & was right! Her Old Hollywood-inspired bob & gorgeous jewels made for a momentous night for both film & fashion, along with that of her stunning colleagues in the industry.

From shimmering cosmetics to fluffy lashes, sculpted hairstyles to flowing locks, & statement earrings to layered necklaces, the stars celebrated the night in the most stylish & sparkly way they know how. Some of my other favorites for the night included Margot Robbie, Lily James, Quinta Brunson, Jessica Chastain, Selena Gomez, & Sheryl Lee Ralph!

Watch This Style: Claire Danes Goofs Around Behind-The-Scenes with Vogue!

Claire Danes for Vogue August 2013

I can’t wait for Homeland to come back for a fierce third season, but in the mean time, the stars of the Showtime drama are hitting the pages of Vogue‘s August 2013 issue. Cover girl Claire Danes recreates her on-screen dynamic with co-star Damien Lewis in a series of fashionable shots. In the video below, the pair playfully name their favorites… including movies, characters, physical attributes, & so forth. It’s funny & sweet to see the actress so light & humorous, when she’s always so serious on the small screen & when it comes to fashion.

Top 10 Celeb Sightings: A Gallery Full Of Black & White Looks, & The Best Dressed Kates!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I’ve been one busy little Style Darling lately & it kills me that I went for so many days without posting! So much has been going on in fashion & the May issues of my favorite magazines are stacking up, collecting dust. I can’t wait to flip through them, but in the mean time, I’ve been scoping out some seriously stylish red carpet looks from our favorite celebrities, including Gwyneth Paltrow, who wore a sleek two-tone Narciso Rodriguez frock during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Also, trends I’ve been noticing are black & white looks, appropriately on my favorite Kates, such as mom-to-be Kate Middleton in a polka dot Topshop dress & Ralph Lauren jacket, Kate Hudson in a leather-accented belted dress, & Kate Beckinsale‘s patterned suit while attending the TCM Classic Film Festival.

Other looks worth mentioning are Charlize Theron‘s Jason Wu jumpsuit, Claire Danes in a leopard print Lanvin dress, Jennifer Lawrence in a sculpted LBD by David Koma, Jessica Biel in an elegant LBD at the Time 100 gala, Kirsten Dunst in a lace & leather mini dress by Emilio Pucci at the GLAAD Media Awards, & lastly, there’s Olivia Palermo looking flawless in an embellished Louis Vuitton sheath dress while at the opening of the brand’s Munich boutique.

Which looks are your favorites? Which trends are you following this spring? Which celebrities do you think always get it right? Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Scarves Inspired by Zoe Saldana, Claire Danes, Rihanna, & More (Dedicated to Rosie)!

My bestie, Rosie, was asking me about scarves for the season & I thought what better way to show her & my readers the many different ways  a scarf can be worn, especially this fall!  However, when I looked at some celebrities to get some inspiration, I saw that scarves have a place among everyday pieces like jeans, sunglasses, & boots.

Zoe Saldana dresses up her black top & skinny jeans with platform heels & a leopard scarf.  January Jones covers up a tissue tee with her blue scarf, accented with a cargo jacket & ballet flats.  Nicole Richie adds a pop of color to her gray & black look with a chunky red scarf.  Kate Walsh makes her layered blazer look more chic with a taupe scarf that matches her striped cardigan.  Rihanna makes travelling look luxe with her neutral, streamlined basics but with an animal-inspired scarf.  Claire Danes plays with leather, but keeps it from looking too flashy with black jeans & a gray bundled pashmina.

Claudia Schiffer takes a 70s turn  with a printed scarf over a button down blouse & denim skirt.  If you take away the top & add a chunky knit, & replace the sandals with ankle booties worn with tights & you have a very fall-ready ensemble.  Ashley Olsen takes a walk around New York City, mixing prints with her top & floral scarf.  Model Bar Rafaeli brings an all-American flair to her court side look at the French Open back in June with mixing denim & a gray fringe scarf.

To amp up your looks just a little more, I’ve picked out a variety of scarves.  While I’m a super bargain hunter, I always recommend looking for accessories that are worth the investment b/c they last all season long! From Target, the tropical mix scarf ($16.99) in pink is perfect for an earth-tone look & the pop of pink would look very strong against dark denim.  @Payless, you can find the leopard print scarf ($9.99) to wear with a leather jacket & skinny jeans.  If you’re looking for some color with ladylike touches, check out LOFT‘s beaded dot scarf ($34.99)- especially when the store frequently has 40% off sales!

Mix a tiny floral print top & bootcut jeans with this tribal scarf ($9.50) from Charlotte Russe. Keeping with the prints, the jagged pattern scarf ($10.50) from Forever 21 is fun to wear with a graphic tee, denim jacket, & straight leg black pants for a casual day of errands.  Something a little chunkier, take a look at Bebe for the ivory open weave scarf ($29.00) that would show the luxury in your taste with a peacoat & knee boots.  A must-have scarf is the sheer lurex infinity scarf ($29.90) from Express, which comes in nine different colors.  The store is also currently having a BOGO 50% sale, so you can buy one for yourself and another for a friend without breaking the bank.  You can also take on blacks & whites with the ‘dawn’s early light’ scarf ($19.99) from Mod Cloth, which can be paired with a boyfriend blazer over a t-shirt & liquid leggings.

What are your favorite scarf styles?  Do you prefer fringe & pattern or do you go with a basic pashmina?  For more posts on Basics for a Bargain, check out Miranda Kerr in tees & leather, turtlenecks inspired by Amanda Seyfried & Selena Gomez, & The Stylish Five for more on cute cold weather accessories.  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review / Color Me Style: A Brilliant Black & Blue Takeover at the Emmy’s Featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Claire Danes, Dianna Agron, & More (Part Two)!

I previously stated that red was the color of the night for the 2011 Emmy Awards, but red was given some serious competition with the ladies wearing different shades of blue & varying styles of exquisite black gowns!  There’s just so much to talk about with these looks, proving that even the most classic or daring silhouettes can rival on the red carpet!

Although they say that black doesn’t photograph well… These Style Darlings prove otherwise! First, Michelle Forbes, star of The Killing definitely killed in a black Romona Keveza strapless gown with a fitted bodice.  Winner Julie Bowen took a plunge in a black metallic sequin-embellished column dress by Oscar de la Renta.  She’s never looked better, especially with those stunning Neil Lane earrings!  Kaley Cuoco’s retro polka Romona Keveza dress was by far my favorite black dress, especially with the polka dot netting & red satin peep toes & Judith Leiber clutch.  Fringe star Anna Torv went for a classic old Hollywood look in a black Vera Wang gown with Lorraine Schwartz earrings & navy Roger Vivier shoes.  Boardwalk Empire star Gretchen Mol kept its simple & elegant in a sweetheart L’Wren Scott silk gown with emerald Fred Leighton jewelry.  Glee bad girl, Naya Rivera showed off her figure in a sculpted black dress with corset bodice.

Gwyneth Paltrow caused quite a stir in her two-piece Emilio Pucci beaded gown with Roger Vivier sandals & Neil Lane jewelry.  Evan Rachel Wood looked simply gorgeous in a beaded Elie Saab gown.  She was nominated for her outstanding performance in Mildred Pierce, but turned heads with her Fred Leighton jewelry, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, & Judith Leiber clutch.  Jenna Ushkowitz went for a black & white Ghadah Paris gown with Casadei shoes & obviously got the memo about carrying a Judith Leiber clutch.  Lena Headey covered up in a black brocade long-sleeved gown with a belt, Brian Atwood heels & a Judith Leiber clutch.  Kelly Macdonald tastefully showed off some skin in a sheer Stella McCartney gown with Jimmy Choo sandals.

As for the ladies in blue, navy was the most popular shade, but turquoise & royal were also embraced.  Kyle Richards wore a pleated royal blue mermaid gown with drop earrings, a cocktail ring, & caged diamond bracelet.  Cobie Smulders of How I Met Your Mother was bright in an aquamarine Alberta Ferretti gown with Neil Lane drop earrings, Brian Atwood shoes, & a clutch by Rene Caovilla.  Last year’s winner, Claire Danes, went for stuck to her favorite column silhouette in a sequin-embroidered Oscar de la Renta gown with Irit jewelry & pumps by Barbara Bui platforms.  Dianna Agron took a risk in this Roksanda Ilincic fishtail gown, but looked stunning with her Fred Leighton jewelry & clutch by Roger Vivier.  Funny lady Amy Poehler channeled this year’s Oscar look worn by Amy Adams in the short-sleeved all-over blue gown by Peter Som with drop earrings by Martin Katz.

Charlie’s Angels star Minka Kelly donned a vintage-inspired navy & black lace Christian Dior gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry & Barbara Bui sandals.  The X-Factor judge Paula Adbul looked adorable in a navy embellished Simeen gown with Martin Katz jewelry.  Nominee Diane Lane looked fantastic in a navy Monique Lhuillier crystal-encrusted gown with Cathy Waterman jewelry.  Glee girl, Heather Morris wasn’t afraid of this tiered plunging gown with gold dangly earrings.  Emily Blunt showed the best in blue in a deep-v Elie Saab creation with a Kelly Locke clutch & Brian Atwood sandals.  One star that could’ve done better was Katie Holmes in this crepe Calvin Klein Collection belted dress.

Be sure to check back for my Emmy red carpet coverage & our post about the fabulous red gowns worn by celebrities like Sofia Vergara, Lea Michele, & Kate Winslet!  Who was your favorite of the night?  Who do you think his all the wrong notes?  Which dress do you covet? Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Costume Designer Awards Featuring Kristin Davis, Halle Berry, Demi Moore, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Well, the days are counting down to the Oscars & I just don’t know how I’m gonna get my blog out timely enough.  The ceremony is on a Sunday night, right before the work week & I just don’t seem to do my best blogging when I’m tired.  However, a surge of energy comes over me instantly when I look at just another reason why I love Kristin Davis, my SATC idol, a.k.a. Charlotte York.  At this year’s Costume Designer Awards, a ceremony that she hosted, the stars came out in glamorous style, as usual, to honor the vision of fashion on & off screen.  Here Kristin is wearing a beautiful white strapless polka-dotted gown with a belt by Oscar de la Renta.  Here’s a glimpse at some of my other favorites, courtesy of In Style. Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards (PART TWO)!

Let’s continue our fun & fashionable talk about this Sunday’s 17th Annual SAG awards.  Our two final categories are the darker looks & the risk-takers.  There’s so much to talk about & even after seeing E!’s Fashion Police last night, I can’t get Joan Rivers’ voice out of my head!

The red carpet beauties embraced black & dark colors in classic silhouettes like one-shoulder, a pencil LBD, sweetheart neckline, & even the daring Julie Bowen shows off an awards show-worthy pantsuit by Catherine Maladrino!  She’s an innovative & underestimated fashionista- Sofia Vergara better watch out!

I just can’t explain how much I truly loved Dianna Agron‘s gorgeous navy Chanel tea-length dress.  She’s the one to watch, of all the Gleek red carpet darlings.

Kim Kardashian killed in a plum Marchesa, although I’m still scratching my head as to why she was in attendance, having no credible acting talent.  Don’t get me wrong, the girl has style, but for these occasions, I like to see the front-runners of the industry showing off their glamorous side.

Perhaps of the classic all-black looks, Amber Riley gets the A+ for going all out glam in a figure-flattering ruched mermaid gown by Anne Barge, originally designed as a bridal gown, but turned into raven for the actress.  Her sleek chunky bangs & super straight hair reminded me of Jennifer Hudson‘s early red carpet days.

Parks & Recreation‘s Amy Poehler & The Closer‘s Kyra Sedgwick never looked more elegant than these age-appropriate black dresses!  I did consider featuring Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks in the risk-taker section, but I actually love her smoldering vintage look with a smoky eye.  She usually embraces something sweet or bold, exuding flirty sex appeal, but here we see a more dramatic side to her belted L’Wren Scott sparkler.

The risk takers of the night were all about color, pattern, volume, & secrets.  Claire Danes utilizes patterns in a floral, January Jones takes on printed lace (her first time wearing Carolina Herrera!), Hailee Steinfeld is youthful in stripes (she even wore a hot pink lips ring!), & Mila Kunis wears a watercolor pattern. Although Claire was the only winner of the group, she was on-trend with a long belt for her sweeping dress.

By color, I’m talking Sofia Vergara giving new meaning to “baby blues!”  Watch out Jennifer Lopez, there’s a new Latina on the red carpet & she’s not going out without a bang!  Volume exists in Jenna Ushkowitz‘s creamy ruffled dress (perhaps one size too small?) & her Glee co-star Jane Lynch shows her purple side in a less than flattering wrap gown, but still gives a good effort!  I say secrets because of Nicole Kidman‘s Nina Ricci lacey dress with a very sexy & effortless lace back.

February 27th is the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony, so mark your calendars & break out your spanx!  My bet is on Natalie Portman to simply steal the show, like winner Sandra Bullock did the year before.  Nominees include Nicole Kidman, Melissa Leo, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, & Hailee Steinfeld, so we’ll have to see how those stylish ladies continue their fabulous streak of red carpet excellence!  In days to come, I’ll be on the lookout for SAG knockoffs, perhaps at EDressMe?  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards (PART ONE)!

Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were a red carpet dream come true, filled with florals, belted looks, sparkles, brights, & enough black & white to go around.  Oscar de la Renta was the most worn designer & the stars were frosted in names like Fred Leighton, Neil Lane, Chopard, Lorraine Schwartz, & Swarovski.  Scroll your mouse over each image to see who’s wearing which designers.

My favorite of the night was an unexpected ballerina-inspired pale pink Monique Lhuillier ruffled number that Angie Harmon wore, although some may say that its beauty was Oscar-worthy & too overdressed for this event. With that, here we have the ladies wearing blush & pink showing off their femininity & boldness.  We saw a splash of pink at last month’s Golden Globe awards with Claire Danes, Lea Michele, & Megan Fox.

We can see that Jennifer Lawrence‘s whirlwind award’s season is only getting better after her ruffled Louis Vuitton pick.  I can’t wait to see what she’ll choose to wear at the Oscars- she’s nominated for her gritty performance in Winter’s Bone.

We saw Christina Hendricks & January Jones showing off their love of red, but here we have four looks (including one demure burnt orange, a little warmer than Emma Stone’s coral) proving that no gorgeous color or design can clash with the red carpet at this event if you’re confident.  Tina Fey‘s red Oscar de la Renta was a most unexpected choice for the usually conservative comedienne, but I’m sure critics will love her bold choice, especially after last year’s stunner. For more on Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2011 collection, click here.

Other nominees lit up the red carpet with thier elegant choices, embracing a deep crimson, magenta red, & a pretty pumpkin.  These rich colors make for incredible photographs & remind us of how truly stunning the female form can look in a column-inspired gown.  Whather cinched at the waist or knotted for a Grecian-style, these dresses made each starlet look like a tall glass of glamour!

Everybody was dying to see what glowing mother-to-be Natalie Portman was going to wear & she turned this white Azzaro number into a ridiculously chic maternity gown that would put red carpet moms-to-be like Angelina Jolie, Heidi Klum, & Naomi Watts to shame. White was definitely on-trend with Amy Adams & a creamy Rosario Dawson presented her own interpretation as well! Winona Ryder‘s Alberta Ferretti creation reminded me so much of a modern-day version of this famous Marilyn Monroe dress.

It isn’t a true awards show without some sparkle.  Bejeweled looks have been a staple for the red carpet in recent years, as we’ve seen on Sandra Bullock, Claire Danes, & Cameron Diaz.  Adding glistening touches to dresses with color was a popular trend too!  It must’ve been winner & Oscar-bound actress Melissa Leo of The Fighter who stole the sparkle show with a fitted golden number & a plunging neckline.

While other sparkles were subtle & elegant, none could quiet compare, but we have to give it up to Eva Longoria & Jayma Mays for their stylish efforts.  We could look forward to some of these fabulous ladies at the upcoming Oscar ceremony- that’s for sure!

Glee stars Lea Michele (keeping with her Globes Oscar de la Renta choice) & Naya Ramirez were on hand to lend some youthful glow to this parade of glitters.  We can see the diversity in a plunging neckline, a modest one-shoulder, spaghetti straps, & a short-sleeved dress in a hint of periwinkle.

Well, there’s really only so much fashion a girl can handle, but I’m excited to report that tomorrow’s post will contain the dark, black, & purple dresses (like Dianna Agron), as well as the risk takers of the night (including one of my favorites- Claire Danes!).  Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Golden Globe Awards!

What better way to return to the blogging circuit than with a Red Carpet Review for this year’s Golden Globe Awards?  There were so many delicious trends that I couldn’t nail which one was my favorite since black & green are both my favorite colors.  There were splashes of blush & rose, shimmering metallics, blues & reds, funky risk-takers, long sleeves & ruffles… where to begin.

Since Natalie Portman, winner for her role in Black Swan, was THE actress everyone has been talking about this season, let’s go with the pinks… Here she is wearing a pink strapless Viktor & Rolf rose embellished gown.  Also, Lea Michele wears a pink one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta ruffled gown.  Claire Danes sticks to one of her favorites with a neon Calvin Klein collection halter gown. Emma Stone went a backless peachy sherbert-hued Calvin Klein collection column dress. Julianna Margulies went with two-tones in a pink & black strapless vintage YSL strapless number.  Megan Fox flaunts in a custom-designed pale pink Giorgio Armani slitted gown.  Sandra Bullock shows off some sparkled in a rosy, intricately beaded Jenny Peckham design.

Neutrals were all the rage, spanning from nudes to ambers in prints, chiffon, sparkles, & sleek numbers. Anne Hathaway dazzles in an amber open back shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive long-sleeved gown. Leighton Meester shows off the long-sleeved trend in a nude Burberry long-sleeved printed gown. Carrie Underwood glows in a Badgley Mischka quartz sequin strapless fishtail sweetheart gown. Scarlett Johansson shimmers in an Old Hollywood plunging blush Elie Saab dress. Heather Morris is sleek in a neutral shimmering gown by Lorena Sarbu. Julie Bowen loves her ruffles in a Tadashi Shoji appliqué gown. Dianna Agron looks like a princess in a blush silk chiffon J. Mendel strapless beaded gown. Sarah Hyland is warm in a Max Azria cafe au lait crystal embellished sweetheart gown.

Green was a surprising choice for some of this year’s nominees and presenters, but the deep regal and bold hue stood out on the red carpet in long-sleeved, one-shoulder, and strapless numbers. Catherine Zeta-Jones exudes elegance in a forest green textured dress by Monique Lhuillier. Mila Kunis is statuesque in an emerald one-shoulder gown by Vera Wang. Elisabeth Moss looks radiant in a hunter green Donna Karan strapless design. Angelina Jolie steals the green trend with a shimmering emerald green long-sleeved Versace gown.

Blue wasn’t the most popular color of the night, but here are three stunning looks in different shades of the color, which are timeless and chic. Amy Adams is gorgeous in a strapless teal blue Marchesa with lasercut detailing & a scalloped bodice. Jane Krakowski glows with maternal joy in a cornflower lace-trimmed Badgley Mischka one-shoulder gown. Mandy Moore is Grecian-inspired in a blue Monique Lhuillier gown.

While we’re talking about solid colors, those basics are effortless to pull off, but here we have three looks in reds & orange that lit up again a glamorous Hollywood red carpet. Christina Hendricks is sexy in a red ruffled one-shoulder Romona Keveza gown. Sofia Vergara channels her inner vixen in a reverse corseted Vera Wang. January Jones wears a custom colored red plunging fringed Versace gown. Kyra Sedgwick stands out in a bright mango Emilio Pucci silk chiffon gown.

You can’t have an awards show without some shimmer. At any age, in any style, shimmer is always a go-to choice for such a fabulous event like the Golden Globes. Screen legend Jane Fonda shines in a George Hobieka sharp-shouldered long-sleeved black embellished gown. Olivia Wilde wows like a princess in a chocolate ombre sequined Marchesa gown. Winner Melissa Leo keeps it simple but elegant in a black shimmering -Lora- gown. Amber Riley goes gunmetal in a figure flattering belted sequined Oliver Tolentino one-shoulder gown. Jessalyn Gilsig sparkles in an eggplant jacquard David Meister strapless gown.

My favorite of the night, if I had to choose, would have to be the black gowns. Black proves time & time again to be not just the stand-by, but the effortless classic that we all know & love. Julia Stiles ruffles up in a black mermaid Romona Keveza tulle one-shoulder gown. Eva Longoria (in my favorite look of the night overall) brings new meaning to simple in a black cap sleeved Zac Posen dress with an embellished belt. Jayma Mays turns back time in a sparkly black art deco Alberta Ferretti dress. Halle Berry proves that age ain’t nothing but a number in a black bustier Nina Ricci mini/overlay dress.

Where there are dark dresses, there will be lighter dresses. These stars turned to whites, creams, & pearl hues to show off their Hollywood style. Nicole Kidman stands tall in a cream belted column gown by Prada. Jennifer Lopez contrasts her honey glow with a draped white Zuhair Murad gown. Hailee Stienfeld looks youthful & age appropriate in a Prabul Gurung halter. Jennifer Love Hewitt shimmers in a pale blue Romona Keveza ruffled & bejeweled gown. Gia Mantegna, a.k.a. Miss Golden Globe, debuts in a silver floral appliqué gown with a black sash.

And last but not least, we have an ode to the risk-takers. With beads, flowers, ruffles, & disco, there will always be the ones who stay true to their style with someone fabulous & risky. Christina Aguilera pays homage to her inner burlesque gal in a sheer black beaded Zuhair Murad sweetheart gown. Michelle Williams is sunny in a daisy-printed Valentino gown. Nominee Jennifer Lawrence makes her mark in a swirling asymmetrical Louis Vuitton dress. Heidi Klum models a 70’s inspired Marc Jacob’s printed halter gown.

We still have the SAGs, Oscars, & Grammys coming up, so stay tuned for some more exciting Hollywood style!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2010 Emmy Awards, Featuring Claire Danes, Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian, & More!

It was obvious that the small screen stars were bringing the larger than life glamour to the red carpet for Sunday’s 62nd Emmy Awards.  All the leading ladies of television were following the trends of black, white, navy, & one-shoulders.  Let’s just start with my absolute favorite of the night. Instantly, I knew that this would be a crowd-pleaser, guaranteed to be published in fashion magazines across the world. Claire Danes, pictured below, in a shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive strapless mermaid dress.  Already it is listed on InStyle‘s Look of the Day.

Surely, Monday night’s presentation of E!‘s Fashion Police will agree with me.  Regretfully, I didn’t get a chance to see the beautiful & talented Claire in the HBO movie Temple Grandin, for which she was nominated, but as soon as I saw this dress, I knew she was going to win for Best Lead Actress in a TV Movie.  Just like when Charlize Theron wore her gold body-hugging Gucci gown to the 2004 Oscars, winning for her role in Monster, & Sandra Bullock wore her gold / silver Marchesa dress to this year’s Oscars, winning for her role in The Blind Side.  A gold dress is a winner’s dress! As for the black trend, I was surprised b/c not many stars take the tricky color under consideration.  Of course, black done the right way is slimming, but for such an elegant affair, to risk losing some of its detail & beauty in photographs is where black goes wrong sometimes.  Anyway, take a look here at Julianna Margulies in L’Wren Scott, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Eva Longoria-Parker in Robert Rodriguez, Julia Louis Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez, & Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward Couture:

I guess you can’t have black dresses without the white ones & there was no shortage of that at the Emmy’s also.  White was a favorite among celebrities with figure flattering designs, metallic embellishments, & gorgeous hair. Here we have the white selection with Rose Byrne in Gucci, Kim Kardashian in Marchesa, Julie Benz in Pamella Roland Resort 2010, Brooke Burke, & Amber Riley:

An equally regal & stunning choice was navy on the red carpet.  Lea Michele told Ryan Seacrest that she hadn’t worn blue lately & it reminded her of the summer midnight sky.  The romantically decadent color was found in all shapes with dramatic ruffles, ruching, & Grecian draping.  My favorite picks for navy are Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta, Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum, Julie Bowen in J. Mendel, Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa, Edie Falco, & Connie Britton:

Lastly, a trend that’s been all over the runways & red carpets for a few years now that’s always a flattering choice is the one-shoulder look.  The celebrities who embraced this were Emily Blunt in Christian Dior, Jane Lynch in Ali Rahimi, Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier, Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad, Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan, & Cheryl Hines in Zac Posen:

Although I didn’t mention this in my intro, I’d like to point out the risk-takers, in my opinion, who both rocked their looks & maybe didn’t succeed as they’d hoped, but still, they deserve some praise.  I’m not saying that I don’t like these looks, but for me, they qualify as risk-takers.  Whether they were experimenting with lace, beads, prints, shape, or hemline, they stole the attention on the red carpet for just a little bit longer than the rest. Check out Diana Agron in Carolina Herrera, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Jane Krakowski in Escada, January Jones in Atelier Versace, Rutina Wesley, Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera, Jewel in Zuhair Murad, Kristen Wiig, & Maria Menounos in Ralph & Russo:

My predictions on the gowns that will be most knocked off are: Claire Danes’ Armani Prive, January Jones’ Atelier Versace, Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa, Emily Deschanel’s Max Azria Atelier, Heidi Klum’s Marchesa, & Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez.  Also, my only gripe with the whole evening was the absence of past favorites like the cast of Grey’s Anatomy & Desperate Housewives.  Stars like Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl (well, not anymore), & Ellen Pompeo, as well as Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, & Teri Hatcher were always interesting to watch on the red carpet, but alas, a new generation of Gleeks, reality show stars, & vampires have invaded the scene.  Happy Styling!
