Fashion Flashback: The Best Pink Gowns of The Emmy Awards!

The ceremony for The 74th Annual Emmy Awards takes place tomorrow night & I’m so excited to see what my favorite stars are wearing, especially since there are so many deserving returning favorites to the show, along with first-time nominees whose work has been dominating social media fodder. This includes Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Elle Fanning, Hannah Waddingham, Rachel Brosnahan, Kaley Cuoco, Selena Gomez, Sandra Oh, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Garner, Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, & more! However, in honor of tomorrow night’s broadcast, I wanted to take a walk down Fashion Memory Lane to celebrate gowns of years’ past in pink!

I choose pink since I am predicting that is the color that will reign over this year’s red carpet, especially after a summer of Barbiecore. In the past, we’ve seen elegance & edge in black, red, white, & metallic tones, but nothing beats a look in a pink champagne, cotton candy, rose gold, dusty rose, salmon, magenta, or dark fuchsia! No matter if an entire gown is in pink, if it’s in a pattern, or a playful accent to a look, pink hues are timeless & ageless, as well as luxe on any red carpet. Take s look at the range of pinks from previous Emmy Awards below:

Vanessa Kirby, Angelina Jolie, Julie Bowen, Emma Roberts, & Halle Berry at the Emmy Awards.
Maisie Williams, Giuliana Rancic, & Elisabeth Moss at the Emmy Awards.
Beth Behrs, Sophia Bush, Thandiwe Newton, Giuliana Rancic, Sophie Turner Jonas at the Emmy Awards.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Keri Russell, Jewel, Alexis Bledel, & January Jones at the Emmy Awards.
Lena Dunham, Dascha Polanco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Vanessa Bayer, & Halsey at the Emmy Awards.
Vanessa Kirby, Yara Shahidi, Sandra Oh, Beanie Feldstein, & Debra Messing at the Emmy Awards.
Thandiwe Newton, Rose Byrne, Hannah Einbinder, Hannah Waddingham, & Tracee Ellis Ross at the Emmy Awards.
Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda, Tracee Ellis Ross, Viola Davis, & Zooey Deschanel at the Emmy Awards.
Uzo Aduba, MJ Rodriguez, Elisabeth Moss, Angela Bassett, & Padma Lakshmi at the Emmy Awards.
Taraji P. Henson, Mandy Moore, Marisa Tomei, & Susan Kelechi Watts at the Emmy Awards.

Who wore your favorite pink look? Do you like a midi dress in pastel pink or prefer a dramatic gown in a neon pink? What colors do you like pink paired with? Who are you rooting for at tomorrow’s Emmys? ‘Tis the season to be glitzy! When you’re getting for your the biggest holiday events, shopping for & coordinating your favorite party dresses & shoes, don’t forget about the all-important clutch, especially when hitting the cocktail party circuit where a bulky bag just won’t do. Investing in a classic, all-purpose clutch bag will serve your wardrobe over & over again, & this time of year, you won’t even have to break the bank for that final finishing piece. Take some inspiration from red carpet pros whose clutch game is on point for any occasion, including Reese Witherspoon, Anne Hathaway, Gigi Hadid, Emma Roberts, Jennifer Hudson, Anna Kendrick, & Kerry Washington

Basics for a Bargain: Pencil Skirt Party for All Sizes!

Earlier in the fall, I was asked what trend I was most interested in, & I was surprised to realize that I’d been all about skirts because my spring & summer wardrobe was so fit & flare dress heavy. However, my flirtation with skirts isn’t exclusive to one style since I’m pretty psyched about all styles & how to explore separates combinations & playing with different patterns. Though, not all skirts are flattering for all body types, but one of the most classic styles that best fits & enhances any shape is the pencil skirt, which is versatile enough to pair with a variety of tops to take you to work to date to weekend & everywhere in between.

Take some inspiration from some iconic television characters who’ve always looked their best on the small screen in pencil skirts, including Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway on Mad Men, Mindy Kaling as Dr. Mindy Lahiri on The Mindy Project, Emma Roberts as Chanel Oberlin on Scream Queens, Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones on Sex & the City, & Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyons on Empire.

You don’t have to break the bank either to find a pencil skirt for you, especially when they’re available in nearly every size, pattern, color, & material. Try a pencil skirt for your next office look with a denim button down shirt, a polka dot cardigan with a striped skirt, or a graphic tee tucked into a brocade skirt. The styling possibilities are endless & evident in the countless posts I’ve previously shared in the past, including inspiration from Lauren Conrad & Kerry Washington, Reese Witherspoon’s floral take on pencil skirts, & style steals straight from the red carpet on Cate Blanchett & Michelle Obama! Also, here are just a few ways I’ve been wearing pencil skirts lately!

So if you haven’t already, take the plunge with a sleek & elegant pencil skirt. Check out these ten affordable picks below to get your holiday, fall, & winter style in gear! Not to mention that most pencil skirts are perfect for year-round wear, which makes the challenge of styling them all the more thrilling!

SHOP: 1. plaid skirt @The Limited (available in sizes 0-18), 2. Thalia Sodi leopard skirt @Macy’s, 3. Worthington woven skirt @JCPenney (available in sizes 4-18 & petites), 4. denim skirt @Nordstrom Rack, & 5. sweater skirt @Old Navy (available in XS-XXL, tall, & petite).

#RedCarpet Review: All The Looks From The 2015 #Emmys, Including #BestDressed Stars Kerry Washington, Lady Gaga, & More!

Tonight’s Emmy awards are already causing a buzz all over the internet, especially among fashion bloggers everywhere. I have nothing but love to show for all the female nominees & presenters on the red carpet. At the end of the day, it’s all about positively celebrating today’s most talented women. However, when it comes to fashion, there’s a legacy about the red carpet & seeing high-end couture & designers’ visions come to life on some of our favorite stars.

Accessories Access: Summer’s Best Statement Jewelry For $10 & Under!

When it comes to transitioning your wardrobe from season to season, sometimes favorite repeats from years past just need a little reinventing with bold, statement jewelry. For myself, I’ve been diving into accessories lately, finding new ways to wear my favorite tops with a little pop of color or sparkle. Also, I’m crazy about dressing up something casual with ornate earrings & an embossed cuff bracelet. As usual, as a Style Darling on a budget, I’ve found six items in each general jewelry category for $10 or under for your shopping & style inspiration!

For high-profile red carpet events, celebrities don statement earrings to compliment their looks, but these stunners aren’t just for gowns & cocktail dresses. Baubles & gem dripping from ears totally elevate any outfit, as seen on Zoe Saldana, Kate Hudson, Emma Roberts, & Emily Blunt.

Fabulous In 4 Ways: A Bold Statement Necklace For Under $12!

Although the holidays may be over, that doesn’t mean it’s time to put away your best & most sparkly accessories & that includes statement necklaces. I’m pretty new to the bauble club, but I’m having fun experimenting with different ways to wear the bold piece of jewelry, which is what inspired my latest post for Fabulous in 4 Ways. I’m excited to explore the variety of style choices one can make with a statement necklace, especially when headed out for a day off of lunch with the girls, to the office for a big meeting, a cocktail party on a date, or a weekend getaway trip.

Coco Rocha, Katy Perry, Emma Roberts, Olivia Palermo, Molly Sims, & Jamie King in statement necklaces.Statement necklaces have been a prominent go-to accessory for celebrities over the years, including supermodel Coco Rocha, pop star Katy Perry in Amrapali, actress Emma Roberts, style icon Olivia Palermo, Molly Sims in a floral necklace, & Hart of Dixie‘s Jamie King.

To start this project, I choose the statement necklace ($11.98) in black & gold from Target, which has just enough glitz & glam to dress up several combinations of basics with prints & rich textures.

Target - statement necklace $11.98.

For daytime, I love the ease of this look & how just one piece instantly adds some punch against the backdrop of casual separates. Also, the necklace is successful over a basic blouse & colorblock look for a fashionable office environment, playing up your personality, yet still remaining professional.

Fabulous in 4 Ways - Day & Work

SHOP day look: sweater ($24.80) @Forever 21, jeans ($19.99) @Zara, & ballet flats ($44.10) @Bon Ton. SHOP work look: top ($25.00) @Topshop, skirt ($34.11) @ASOS, & shoes ($32.99) @Charlotte Russe.

When headed to a cocktail party, a statement necklace is just the piece to elevate a classic LBD, sheath, or lace frock. Lastly, when taking a road trip for the weekend, a statement necklace is perfectly interchangeable when considering how to efficiently pack to get the most out of your wardrobe.

Fabulous in 4 Ways - Cocktail & Weekend

SHOP cocktail look: dress ($49.99) @ModCloth, sandal ($19.94) @DSW, & clutch ($15.00) @Payless. SHOP weekend look: sweater ($19.97) @New York & Company, sweat pants ($41.30) @Last Call, booties ($44.99) @Nine West, & cardigan ($18.99) @Kohl’s.

For more statement necklace inspiration, I choose a few more styles that are both affordable & adjustable to any neckline for any outfit.

Red Carpet Review: Emma Roberts Makes The Rounds!

Ever since the first time I saw Emma Roberts hit the red carpet, which I can’t even remember when, I’ve loved her feminine & fashion forward style.  She’s been off the radar for a while, but I’m happy to see that the Scream 4 star has returned to red carpets & is celebrating various events with some serious style.

After finding these images (check out In Style‘s Look of the Day series), I knew I had to feature the young starlet.  Her style is a cool combination of classic, youthful, & effortless.  I love the wavy shag she’s been sporting, as well as all of those fancy satin heels!

While checking out the Juicy Couture collection, Emma’s donning a printed shift dress by the brand, with major satin platforms.  Emma attended the premiere of Manon at Lincoln Center in this embellished Yves Saint Laurent sweetheart jumpsuit & sleek minaudiere.  The rising fashion icon hit a party for Salvatore Ferragamo in a bowed blouse and buffed trousers, adding a pop of color in some adorable blue satin pumps. Emma continues to prove that she’s fierce when it comes to outfits, especially in this Jonathan Saunders blouse, wide leg trousers, jewelry by Caleo, & a black Swarovski clutch.

Which look of Emma’s is your favorite? What do you think of the satin heels? If you’re interested in shopping for affordable satin pumps, check out the following links to Target, Macy’s, Piperlime, & 6PM!

Red Carpet Review: The Versace for H&M Debut featuring Jessica Alba, Jennifer Hudson, Blake Lively, & More!

I recently wrote for my Culture Mob column, A Dash of Fashion, about The Details Behind Versace’s Collection for H&M.  Last night in New York, throngs of celebrities & fashionistas gathered to celebrate the line by designer Donatella Versace, which she recently told In Style: I want to give young people my own history, the Versace brand history, and the most iconic fashion moments of Versace.”

Although the line isn’t available in H&M stores until November 17th, some of the major players in fashion like Jessica Alba, Blake Lively, & Selma Blair showed their support for bringing the Versace name to mainstream shoppers. Emma Roberts, Abbie Cornish, & Nicki Minaj played with separates, while Jennifer Hudson, Chloe Moretz, & Kaylee DeFer showed off their elegant & edgy frocks.  Also, Uma Thurman sports an age-appropriate gown from the line with a contemporary touch in the blazer & strappy sandals.

Which of these looks would you wear?  I’m loving Jessica Alba’s demure approach with the black opague tights & tied back bun.  Also, I do love Chloe Moretz’s unexpected shoe choice with the yellow sheath dress.  Check out more images & prices from the line here! Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Dispell Those Turtleneck Myths with Inspiration from Claudia Schiffer, Keira Knightley, & More (Dedicated to Laurie)!

My dear friend Laurie, who I’ve dedicated a past blog to, has inspired this post with a question about the myth that turtlenecks = frompy.  However, here is the evidence that they’re not!  Of course I’m not a turtleneck-donning Style Darling myself, or anything with collars for that matter, but I can say that looking at the celebs below, there’s no way turtlenecks can be so wrong when they look so right- especially on my dear Laurie who always looks fashionable in a turtleneck.

Over the last few years, we’ve seen turtlenecks come back in style, in the most classic way, just like a good pair of trousers, dark denim jeans, a pencil skirt, & a button-down shirt. Jennifer Connelly layers her turtleneck with a blazer & pleated Balenciaga mini skirt & opaque tights.  Supermodel Claudia Schiffer makes a spring-like tunic fall-ready with a turtleneck, leggings, & heavy cardigan. Kristin Chenoweth looks super cozy in a furry sweater jacket, skinny jeans, & knee boots with her classic gray turtleneck underneath.  Reese Witherspoon multi-tasks in a black mock turtleneck, aviators, straight leg jeans, & embellished flats with a Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag.  Amanda Seyfried covers up in the cold with a black turtleneck under a bright red romper dress for a TV appearance & matching red lips.  Keira Knightley looks like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn in a belted pencil dress & turtleneck ensemble with round toe Sergio Rossi pumps.  Disney darling Selena Gomez downplays her printed pants with a short-sleeved turtleneck & layered chains from LOFT.

And now the basic we’ve all been waiting for…. here are some turtlenecks, in stores now! @Old Navy, the ‘tropical storm’ turtleneck ($17.94) is available in five other colors & can be mixed & matched up with a skirt suit or puffer vest with white skinny jeans.  Each color is available in sizes XS – XXL for Style Darlings of all shapes! Try out some jewel tones & primary colors with the classic turtleneck sweater ($34.93) from The Limited, marked down from $49.90.  Take a skinny belt, like shown on the model, & add some modern edge to the underestimated basic piece that would look contemporary with classic stud earrings & bangles.  Style&co created this gray & black colorblock turtleneck ($21.98), available @Macy’s, also in black & red. It’s prefect for a pair of leather shorts & hoop earrings. Add some straight leg cigarette pants & platform boots to create an mod / equestrian look.

If you’re a mock turtleneck kind of gal, check out Target‘s short-sleeve mock in black which can help you recreate Keira’s look, or would be fabulous with a houndstooth pencil skirt for work! Also, this turtleneck reminds me of a Fashion Flashback post featuring Marilyn Monroe with white pants & bouncy blonde curls.

Work a built-in belt with a sweater turtleneck ($17.80) like this from Forever 21 for a denim skirt & boots when you grab some hot chocolate with your gal pals on weeknight.  Probably my favorite of all the turtlenecks is the shirred turtleneck in deep teal ($28.00) by Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s.  Also available in heather gray & black, this top is marked down from $40.00!

For those of you who still need some extra convincing, celebrities like Zoe Saldana, Emma Roberts, Lake Bell, Beyonce, & Cameron Diaz show that covering up in a turtleneck dress can be just as sexy & polished like a cocktail dress on the red carpet.  Check out a previous Basics for a Bargain post, featuring sweater dresses to see stars like Heather Graham, Eva Mendes, & Nicole Richie sporting fall-ready turtleneck style sweater dresses without any worry about if it’s a do or don’t.

Turtlenecks have come a long way.  Stay away from anything too festive, adorned with holiday-themes, & you won’t look like a fuddy-duddy.  Look for a turtleneck in a strong solid color, or in a modern print. Remember: Since turtlenecks are a must-have basic, you’re setting up the foundation to a really fashionable ensemble that could be accented with with long necklaces, a vest, belted bootcut jeans, a leather corset, mini skirt, or figure-flattering pencil skirt.

Also, for a final persuasion to any nay-sayers, check out these stunning runway looks from Chanel, Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Valentino, Stella McCartney, & Donna Karan.

Do you have any style myths that you just can’t figure out?  I’d be happy to show off how some celebrity-inspiration can translate into an affordable look.  Do you have any turtleneck stories?  Laurie, I hope this blog does the trick! Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Black Round Toe Pumps like Keira Knightley, Lauren Conrad, & More!

And so it seems that even though it’s fabulous to wear crazy high strappy heels or cut-out shooties, sometimes it’s the basic black pumps that really do the trick for your look.  Like every woman should a little black dress, every woman should have basic black pumps for every occasion from formal (like Keira Knightley wears in satin with a stunning short dress by Chanel), for work (as seen on Malin Akerman in a black blouse & high waist pencil skirt) to cocktail (for example, Lauren Conrad wearing a blue dress by BCBG Max Azria) to casual (well, sort of like the always stylish Rihanna in a menswear-inspired look of a white jacket & black pants).  These celebs find comfort & style solace in turning to a classic favorite of rounded toes with or without a platform.

Showing off textures like leather, patent, suede, or velvet, luxurious basic black is an elegant and sexy way to complete your look with every step. Of course in this case, by affordable, I mean $30 or under, especially when compared to brands like Christian Louboutin or Salvatore Ferragamo.  These pictured styles are from stores like Forever 21, PaylessAldo, Mandee, AMI Clubwear, & GOjane.

More great outlets for bargain footwear are Victoria’s Secret, Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, Zappos, & Love My Shoes. If you’re still looking for some style inspirate for your black pumps, check out Dianna Agron at this year’s Grammys in Vivienne Westwood, Natalie Portman at last year’s Gotham Awards, Kirsten Dunst at the Tribeca Film Festival, Emma Roberts at the Sucker Punch premiere in leather leggings, Eva Longoria in a dramatic Ashi Studio minidress, Michelle Williams at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, & Scarlett Johansson in a bright Oscar de la Renta party dress.  Happy Styling!
