Red Carpet Review: All the Fashion from The Barbie Premieres & Press Tour with Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, & More!

The highly anticipated Barbie movie is almost here! The stars, including Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Simu Liu, Michael Cera, & Will Ferrell, have been hitting the international press circuit, along with the film’s scribe & director Greta Gerwig, with photo calls, red carpet, talk shows, & more. Most notably, Margot has been living that Barbiecore style in a variety of pink looks inspired by the doll’s actual fashion, as well as more dramatic dresses that hearken back to the doll’s signature style, particularly for last night’s world premiere in Los Angeles.

There’s more to come, too, as the film premieres in the U.S. July 21st! for now, watch some of the pink carpet interviews from the world premiere!

Top 10 Celeb Sightings: Winter Style Envy with Inspiration from Alicia Vikander, Jessica Alba, Olivia Palermo, & More!

Before we get into what’s going on in the world of celebrity style, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy & stylish 2016. I took a much-needed break from the blogosphere where I finished my thesis (a full-length memoir) & I’m on track to graduate with my MFA this May! Also, I tackled a busy holiday season of working 2 jobs (whilst finishing said thesis) & getting sidelined with 2 cases of laryngitis. However, in keeping with good news, I’m happily part of a new relationship, which is motivating me more to conquer 2016 with all things positive & stylish. I’ve learned that the key to any passion project (I’ve transitioned from thesis to blog) is to make sure your life is in order & in a good place before you can successfully dive into it.

In my absence, A LOT has happened when it comes to celebrity style & wow-worthy red carpet moments. With today’s major snowstorm (shutting down part of Long Island, at least), I finally have the opportunity to indulge in some fashion eye candy, catching up on the latest trends & getting inspired when it comes to a chic winter wardrobe. I scoured the web for this winter’s best red carpet & street style looks, planning on how I can add some sparkle & pastel to my regular rotation, as well as playing with monochromatic looks or menswear inspiration.

Alicia Vikander, Dakota Johnson, Gigi Hadid, Jessica Alba, & Jourdan Dunn.Oscar nominee Alicia Vikander’s monochromatic magenta included a satin cami crop top with a pair of culottes & satin Stuart Weitzman sandals (shop similar here @6PM) at the 31st Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. How To Be Single star Dakota Johnson looked minimalist at the AOL Build Speaker Series for her latest film in a sleek white off-shoulder crop top, pair of black trousers, Jennifer Fisher cuff, & black sandals (shop similar here @Dune London). Model Gigi Hadid kept cozy in Paris with a slouchy cowl-neck ivory One x OneTeaspoon sweater with destroyed cropped jeans (shop similar here @Old Navy), mirrored aviators (shop similar here @Charlotte Russe), a furry camel Katie Ermilio coat, & lace-up pumps. Mogul / actress Jessica Alba attended the Who What Wear x Target launch party in designs from the collaboration with a striped tee (shop here @Target), bold floral pencil skirt (shop plus size here @Target), moto jacket (shop here @Target), black clutch, & silver Brian Atwood pumps (shop similar here @Macy’s). Model Jourdan Dunn dazzled in a pearl & silver iridescent silk organza Ralph & Russo bustier dress with a pair of silver satin Ralph & Russo pumps at the Zoolander 2 premiere.

Lucy Hale, Naomie Harris, Olivia Palermo, Penelope Cruz, & Rachel McAdams.Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale showed her street style chops headed to the SiriusXM Studios in a black & powder blue flared look with a multicolored woven coat, an ear jacket, a color-block tote, & black pumps (shop similar here @Forever 21). Bond girl Naomie Harris went nautical in a sheer-sleeved white blouse with high-waist buttoned Burberry trousers (shop similar here @Dillard’s) at a party for Louis XIII ‘100 Years’. Style icon Olivia Palermo made the rounds at Couture Fashion Week in a black cowl-neck Iris von Arnim knit, nautical-inspired wide-leg pants, an olive fur stole (shop similar here @Bluefly), & matching mini top-handle purse. Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz sparkled in a custom gold chainmail Atelier Versace gown with a matching Versace clutch, sandals, & Chopard jewelry at the Zoolander 2 premiere. Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams wore a graphic Jonathan Simkhai little white dress with beige pleated Christian Louboutin shoes at the 31st Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Which celebrity is wearing your favorite look? Whose style inspires you the most? Which trends are you talking about this winter? Thanks so much to all of my readers for your continued support during my blog hiatus, especially on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, & Pinterest. Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Atelier Versace’s Spring 2015 Couture Collection from Paris!

Atelier Versace Spring 2015 Couture Collection

One of the most unconventional, yet buzzed about collections that hit the runway during Couture Fashion Week in Paris was Versace‘s new Spring 2015 Couture line. While, it’s risky in nature, playing up the curves of the female form with swirls & twists on transparent paneling- all over- the true couture-ness isn’t as evident. Nonetheless, designer Donatella Versace wowed critics, especially when A-listers like Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, & Kate Hudson showed up in support; the latter of which donned the same red design as above (in a pencil version) while sitting front row beside mom, Goldie Hawn. However, this collection arrives just in time for the upcoming Grammy’s, which makes me believe that nominees & presenters are likely to don some of these runway looks, including Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Jessie J, & Lady Gaga.

Which looks are your favorite? Which designers are you loving during Couture Fashion Week? Also, there were plenty of newcomers who made an impact, including many Orange is the New Black winners like Uzo Aduba (in Angel Sanchez) & Danielle Brooks (in Christian Siriano), as well as Game of ThronesMaisie Williams (in Self-Portrait).

Angelina Jolie, Emily Blunt, Felicity Jones, & Diane Kruger at the 2015 Crtic's Choice Awards.

Last night’s Critic’s Choice Movie Awards kept the awards season momentum going, with not just the celebration of fantastic performances on the big screen, but also with A-listers dressed to the nines, making a stylish splash on the red carpet. This includes some usual favorites like Angelina Jolie (in Atelier Versace), Amy Adams (in Max Mara), Reese Witherspoon (in Lanvin), Emily Blunt (in Emilio Pucci), Keira Knightley (in Delpozo), & Jamie Chung (in Yanina Couture). A lot of trends hit the red carpet, including whimsical white, as seen on Rosamund Pike (in Valentino Haute Couture), Marion Cotillard (in Dior), & Jessica Chastain (in Antonio Berardi), as well as black lace on Felicity Jones (in Dolce & Gabbana), Michelle Monaghan (in Elie Saab), & winner, Julianne Moore (in Saint Laurent). Making major style statements for the ceremony were nominee Jennifer Aniston who suited up in a crimson Gucci deep-v black & trousers, & the always perfect Diane Kruger in a printed Naeem Khan gown (as previously featured in the designer’s Pre-Fall 2015 Collection in Runway Rundown).

The 2015 Golden Globes is upon us & already the show is an extravaganza in entertainment & movie madness. However, it’s the red carpet that has the fashion world buzzing, including some major trends in pops of color like red, cobalt, & yellow, as well as luxe metallics, plenty of cleavage from A-listers, pretty pastels, & dramatic ballgowns. Red Carpet Review: The Wild Looks From The MTV VMAs, Featuring Ciara, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Music’s most popular & praised hit Brooklyn this weekend to celebrate the MTV VMAs. The ceremony featured a slew of performances that left audiences with their jaws on the floor & many heads scratched. I’m going to talk about talent here. I loved seeing Lady Gaga back in action, as well as the throwback to Justin Timberlake‘s career since his days in NSYNC & also, a memorable Bruno Mars who hit the stage with his new single, “Gorilla.”

However, we must consider the red carpet, which featured a lot of controversial looks, as well as elegant surprises. My favorites include sophisticated risk-takers like Selena Gomez showing her rock side in Atelier Versace, Katy Perry‘s leopard, leggy look by Emanuel Ungaro, Ciara in a Givenchy Couture, & Lady Gaga herself in a black Elvira-inspired look by Prabal Gurung. Of course, Taylor Swift looked stunning in Hérvé Leger & Naya Rivera‘s cut-out black gown was chic, but these girls need to learn to loosen up.

Which looks are your favorite? Which performance were you talking about the most on Monday morning? Do you think Miley Cyrus went too far during her performance? For more celebrity posts, check out previous galleries including the thrilling season 3 promo for Revenge, Robert Pattinson for Dior Homme, stylish September issues featuring Amber Heard & Kate Upton, Olivia Palermo in an ASOS look, & Girls actor Adam Driver featured in Vogue! Red Carpet Review: The Best Looks From The 2013 Billboard Music Awards, Including Emmy Rossum, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, & More!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Last night’s Billboard Music Awards were a big draw for viewers, attracting big names from the worlds of rap, rock, pop, & country. However, it’s the BLUE carpet that has fashion critics & bloggers buzzing today. Designer Zuhair Murad was definitely in-demand, dressing the likes of Jennifer Lopez in a deep-v gold gown, Emmy Rossum in a black velvet & sheer polka-dotted dramatic look, & Taylor Swift who showed off her gams in a blue sparkling mini dress. Also, celebrities worth noting were Hayden Panettiere who looked regal in a black Halston Heritage gown, Chloe Moretz in a printed Fendi frock, & Selena Gomez in a stunning white & neon-accented plunging gown by Atelier Versace. Additionally, some nay-sayers are also giving Nicki Minaj some heat over her red bustier gown, which channeled Rihanna‘s Azzedine Alaia dress from this year’s Grammy’s, but I think that this is almost the best that the rapper has ever looked & she should keep taking tips from Rihanna.

If I was an officer of the Fashion Police, I would certainly fine whoever it was that let the lovely star of the upcoming ABC series Mistresses, Alyssa Milano, out in that awkward palazzo pant ensemble by Emilio Pucci, as well as Jenny McCarthy‘s stylist for the 90s-homage tank & maxi skirt look. Sure, she’s in her 40s, has a great body, & her makeup looks gorgeous, but there are definitely better options out there for the VH1 talk show host.

Who wore your favorite look? Which artist gave the best performance at the show? Did you like the blue carpet looks? For more from Red Carpet Review, check out previous posts including my recent gallery for Top 10 Celeb Sightings including Jennifer Aniston & Victoria Beckham, this year’s Met Costume Institute Gale featuring Emma Watson & Amanda Seyfried, & a complete look at Oblivion actress Olga Kurylenko’s press tour & premieres. Color Me Style: Spring Into Neon Yellow This Season!

Last month I blogged about neon blouses at different price points, sharing the big neon trend that will help Style Darling transition from winter to spring. I’ve seen so much in stores lately in neons, especially in the highlighter yellow variety in tops, dresses, pants, skirts, & accessories, which are perfect for mixing with essentials like dark denim jeans, crisp white pieces, & other bold separates.

Neons have been on the rise for quite a while now, especially on the red carpet & seen on celebrities on the street. This includes Indian beauty Freida Pinto in a lace Atelier Versace peplum gown at the Cannes Film Festival. Also, Jennifer Lopez‘s honey-hued glow looks even more chic in a long-sleeved Michael Kors sheath dress with hot pink pumps by Casadei. Hollywood it-girl Chloe Grace Moretz was all smiles at the People’s Choice Awards in a floral Simone Rocha party dress with black ankle-strap pumps.

Freida Pinto, Jennifer Lopez, CHloe Moretz, Kristen Stewart, & Beyonce Knowles.

At last summer’s Comi-Con, Twilight actress Kristen Stewart mixed a neon BCBG Max Azria skirt with a cropped tee & leather Barbara Bui high tops. Beyoncé knew about the neon trend a few years ago when she hit the streets of Manhattan with neon accessories, including a straw hat & ankle-strap platform sandals with an over-sized tank & grey shorts.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to neons is that you must wear them in moderation. I did recently show neon yellow in a head-to-toe monochromatic look in a Basics for a Bargain post, however these separates & dresses are perfect for any style. For example, the Prabal Gurung ruffle dress ($39.99) & Mossimo ponte colorblock v-neck dress ($27.99) from Target are timeless & affordable essentials to wear at the office with a blazer or for date night with some textured pumps. Also, Expresssplit back dolman sweater ($23.94), Forever 21‘s contrast racerback trapeze tank ($6.80), & New York & Company‘s two-pocket blouse ($20.00) are cute, affordable, & versatile tops to mix with patterned pants, colorful jeans, or neutral pencil skirts. The varying neon hues from bright & bold to soft & near-pastel are elegant & modern.

Next, the cropped high rise trousers ($19.80) from Forever 21 are ideal for elongating the legline if you dare to wear neon on your bottom half. Also, for a softer look with neon, I recommend the Worthington colorblocked pleated skirt ($25.00) from JC Penney for a white scoop neck tee or a lacy button-down blouse. You always see celebs wearing shorts & the H&M shorts ($29.95) can work for both casual & dressy occasions, if paired with pointy toe heels, ballet flats, or a sleeveless top.

As for accessories, a neon pop of color is always a great choice. Bags that I just couldn’t resist sharing are the Nine West tech mini cross body bag ($19.95) from DSW & H&M‘s clutch ($24.95). Not to mention chic jewelry pieces like the BCBGeneration Le Piaget neon & crystals stretch bracelet ($24.99) from 6PM & enamel coated stretch ring ($6.00) from Charlotte Russe can turn a day look into something ready for cocktail hour. Lightweight gauzy scarves are always fun to consider with your casual look when you’re running errands or headed out shopping with girlfriends, which is why I picked the plaid scarf ($29.95) from Gap to wear with a denim jacket, leather bomber, or twill blazer.

We can’t talk about neon without mentioning shoes, which are always my favorite part of an outfit! I selected the Prabal Gurung pointy toe pump ($39.99) from Target, neon cap toe ballet flats ($19.99) from American Eagle Outfitters, & Forever 21‘s neon strap platform sandals ($26.80).

What do you think about the neon trend? Would you wear it? Do you like the pieces of clothing or prefer the accessories? Which trends are you following this season? For more posts on affordable fashion, check out spring must haves from Old Navy & Payless, stylish stilettos from Forever 21, all-white looks inspired by Kerry Washington & Emmy Rossum, stylish stud earrings for any occasion, & the latest collection for Kohl’s by Lauren Conrad! Red Carpet Review: The Ladies Of ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Hit The Red Carpet!

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to review an advanced screening of Oz the Great and Powerful, which stars James Franco as Oz, a magician from Kansas who becomes a wizard. Also in the film are beauties Michelle Williams, Mila Kunis, & Rachel Weisz as three battling witches: Glinda, Theodora, & Evanora, respectively. The movie premieres on Friday nationwide, but if you just can’t wait to hear about the spoiler-free juicy details, check out my review on Movie Buzzers.

In addition, the lovely ladies of the movie have been making the global rounds at premieres & press events, wearing the best of the best, including Elie Saab, Jason Wu, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, Burberry, Michael Kors, Alexander McQueen, Atelier Versace, & so on. Red Carpet Review: 2011 Venice Film Festival Featuring Kate Winslet, Abbie Cornish, Madonna, & More!

At this year’s Venice Film Festival, the stars walked the red carpet, made appearances at screenings, & promoted their films in pure style.  There were some very exciting style surprises, as well as back-to-back hits on the red carpet.  Menswear inspiration, minimalism, vintage Hollywood, & sleek separates were among the trends dominating the fashion world right now. Among these stars were Marisa Tomei, Kate Winslet, Diane Kruger, Madonna, Keira Knightley, Cindy Crawford, Bar Rafaeli, Abbie Cornish, & Evan Rachel Wood.

Marisa Tomei, co-star to George Clooney & Ryan Gosling in Ides of March, was colorful, wearing a sheath dress by Erdem, an embellished top with an orange Preen skirt, & a pearl-accented neon yellow draped Marios Schwab gown.  And then there was Kate Winslet, the unofficial spokesmodel for chic.  The Carnage star wowed in a mocha Victoria Beckham dress with strappy Jimmy Choo sandals.  Then for day, she chose a classic LBD with a gray blazer, thick-strapped sandals, & House of Lavande‘s Panetta gold & diamante bracelet.  She once again stole the show in a stretch cotton multi-colored Stella McCartney dress with drop earrings & peep toe pumps at the Mildred Pierce premiere.  Then for another day event, she kept her all-black ensemble simple with a tank, shorts, a blazer, & the same peep toes!

Younger up and coming stars like Abbie Cornish turned some heads with this ombre silk organza tiered Atelier Versace stunner.  For a more movie star-esque day look, the W.E. star continued to earn raves in this Elie Saab a-line LBD with polished touches of gold in the House of Lavande choker.  Abbie isn’t shy when it comes to print either, as we can see in the keyhole maxi dress while attending the Venice Film Festival’s Movie Star Lounge.

Also making a splash, especially with the menswear trend was Evan Rachel Wood who’s shown above a whopping four times, just like her Mildred Pierce co-star, Kate Winslet.  She suited up in an outfit by Dolce & Gabbana with Salvatore Ferragamo houndstooth pumps (which I just drooled over on the Nordstrom website, for $950.00!).  Then she brought new meaning to shirtdress with this flowing white Alessandra Rich design with jewel-studded black ankle strap heels.  Then she returned to her black & white suit look, but with a vest over a feminine white blouse with some serious black Christian Louboutin pumps.

Diane Kruger stepped out in a textured Chanel dress with a matching striped clutch, but kept her German-girl-next-door look with a messy side braid.  Then she stepped up her look in this Grecian-inspired cascading nude Elie Saab bustier gown.  Madonna also made an appearance in support of her directorial debut, W.E., wearing a black & white L’Wren Scott dress with a gold cross & platform pumps by Yves Saint Laurent.  To show that she’s still got it, Madonna choose a custom-made butterfly-embellished Vionnet dress with Miu Miu sunglasses for the film’s premiere.

Also, Keira Knightley stepped off a gondola in a printed Mary Katrantzou dress for a photocall for A Dangerous MethodCindy Crawford proved that you don’t have to be a movie star to look like one in one-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown with Chopard jewelry.  And last but not least, model / actress Bar Rafaeli opted for a lace-paneled jumpsuit by Emilio Pucci.

Who do you think was the best dressed during the festival?  Did Madonna get it right with all those butterflies?  Was Evan Rachel Wood too bland in black & white?  Do you think Kate Winslet stole the show?  Check out our last Red Carpet Review post with a look at The Help‘s Jessica Chastain & some of the best looks from the Cannes Film Festival back in May!  Happy Syling!

Red Carpet Review: 2010 Emmy Awards, Featuring Claire Danes, Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian, & More!

It was obvious that the small screen stars were bringing the larger than life glamour to the red carpet for Sunday’s 62nd Emmy Awards.  All the leading ladies of television were following the trends of black, white, navy, & one-shoulders.  Let’s just start with my absolute favorite of the night. Instantly, I knew that this would be a crowd-pleaser, guaranteed to be published in fashion magazines across the world. Claire Danes, pictured below, in a shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive strapless mermaid dress.  Already it is listed on InStyle‘s Look of the Day.

Surely, Monday night’s presentation of E!‘s Fashion Police will agree with me.  Regretfully, I didn’t get a chance to see the beautiful & talented Claire in the HBO movie Temple Grandin, for which she was nominated, but as soon as I saw this dress, I knew she was going to win for Best Lead Actress in a TV Movie.  Just like when Charlize Theron wore her gold body-hugging Gucci gown to the 2004 Oscars, winning for her role in Monster, & Sandra Bullock wore her gold / silver Marchesa dress to this year’s Oscars, winning for her role in The Blind Side.  A gold dress is a winner’s dress! As for the black trend, I was surprised b/c not many stars take the tricky color under consideration.  Of course, black done the right way is slimming, but for such an elegant affair, to risk losing some of its detail & beauty in photographs is where black goes wrong sometimes.  Anyway, take a look here at Julianna Margulies in L’Wren Scott, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Eva Longoria-Parker in Robert Rodriguez, Julia Louis Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez, & Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward Couture:

I guess you can’t have black dresses without the white ones & there was no shortage of that at the Emmy’s also.  White was a favorite among celebrities with figure flattering designs, metallic embellishments, & gorgeous hair. Here we have the white selection with Rose Byrne in Gucci, Kim Kardashian in Marchesa, Julie Benz in Pamella Roland Resort 2010, Brooke Burke, & Amber Riley:

An equally regal & stunning choice was navy on the red carpet.  Lea Michele told Ryan Seacrest that she hadn’t worn blue lately & it reminded her of the summer midnight sky.  The romantically decadent color was found in all shapes with dramatic ruffles, ruching, & Grecian draping.  My favorite picks for navy are Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta, Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum, Julie Bowen in J. Mendel, Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa, Edie Falco, & Connie Britton:

Lastly, a trend that’s been all over the runways & red carpets for a few years now that’s always a flattering choice is the one-shoulder look.  The celebrities who embraced this were Emily Blunt in Christian Dior, Jane Lynch in Ali Rahimi, Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier, Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad, Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan, & Cheryl Hines in Zac Posen:

Although I didn’t mention this in my intro, I’d like to point out the risk-takers, in my opinion, who both rocked their looks & maybe didn’t succeed as they’d hoped, but still, they deserve some praise.  I’m not saying that I don’t like these looks, but for me, they qualify as risk-takers.  Whether they were experimenting with lace, beads, prints, shape, or hemline, they stole the attention on the red carpet for just a little bit longer than the rest. Check out Diana Agron in Carolina Herrera, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Jane Krakowski in Escada, January Jones in Atelier Versace, Rutina Wesley, Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera, Jewel in Zuhair Murad, Kristen Wiig, & Maria Menounos in Ralph & Russo:

My predictions on the gowns that will be most knocked off are: Claire Danes’ Armani Prive, January Jones’ Atelier Versace, Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa, Emily Deschanel’s Max Azria Atelier, Heidi Klum’s Marchesa, & Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez.  Also, my only gripe with the whole evening was the absence of past favorites like the cast of Grey’s Anatomy & Desperate Housewives.  Stars like Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl (well, not anymore), & Ellen Pompeo, as well as Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, & Teri Hatcher were always interesting to watch on the red carpet, but alas, a new generation of Gleeks, reality show stars, & vampires have invaded the scene.  Happy Styling!
