Fashion Flashback: The Memorable Short Dress & Pants Looks of the Golden Globes!

While I’m a major fan of the glorious ballgown on a red carpet, I’m always fascinated to study the non-traditional choices, which are becoming more & more the norm, including short dresses & pants / jumpsuits / tuxedos on female attendees. There are so many lists & galleries on social media & the internet recalling the best Golden Globe looks of all time, as well as the most extreme. However, let’s take some time to review the non-traditional, which are likely to appear on tonight’s red carpet for the highly-anticipated return of the controversial awards ceremony.

From mini to midi dresses, the red carpet is no stranger to short designs with some sparkle, structure, or volume, especially when making an elegant, playful style statement:

Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez, Reese Witherspoon, & Joey King in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Wiig, Katharine McPhee, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Julianna Margulies, Heidi Klum, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.
Millie Bobby Brown, Elisabeth Moss, Halle Berry, & Sarah Jessica Parker in short dresses at the Golden Globes.

Pants looks come in all forms, on a deconstructed tuxedo, jumpsuit, & suit, imitating the dress look, but also playing with cut-outs, adornments, separates, & proportions. Black is the most popular option with a pants look, as seen below:

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Susan Kelechi Watson, & Laura Dern in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jennifer Aniston & Kyra Sedgwick in pants at the Golden Globes.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Taylor Schilling, Kathryn Hahn, Amy Poehler, & Octavia Spencer in pants at the Golden Globes.
Claire Foy, Lorde, Debra Messing, & Alison Brie in pants at the Golden Globes.
Rita Morena, Portia de Rossie, Judy Greer, & Evan Rachel Wood in pants at the Golden Globes.
Jeannie Mai, Jane Fonda, Elsie Fisher, & Sibley Scoles in pants at the Golden Globes.
Emma Watson in pants at the Golden Globes.
Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Gwyneth Paltrow, & Alexis Bledel in pants at the Golden Globes.

Who wore your favorite skirt look? Do you think a mini dress is appropriate for such an event? What about the jumpsuits & tuxedos? Who pulled it off the best, in your opinion? Stay tuned for more Golden Globes updates to catch up on all the latest fashion & highlights from the night! Fashion Flashback: The Best Pink Gowns of The Emmy Awards!

The ceremony for The 74th Annual Emmy Awards takes place tomorrow night & I’m so excited to see what my favorite stars are wearing, especially since there are so many deserving returning favorites to the show, along with first-time nominees whose work has been dominating social media fodder. This includes Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Sydney Sweeney, Zendaya, Elle Fanning, Hannah Waddingham, Rachel Brosnahan, Kaley Cuoco, Selena Gomez, Sandra Oh, Reese Witherspoon, Julia Garner, Christina Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, & more! However, in honor of tomorrow night’s broadcast, I wanted to take a walk down Fashion Memory Lane to celebrate gowns of years’ past in pink!

I choose pink since I am predicting that is the color that will reign over this year’s red carpet, especially after a summer of Barbiecore. In the past, we’ve seen elegance & edge in black, red, white, & metallic tones, but nothing beats a look in a pink champagne, cotton candy, rose gold, dusty rose, salmon, magenta, or dark fuchsia! No matter if an entire gown is in pink, if it’s in a pattern, or a playful accent to a look, pink hues are timeless & ageless, as well as luxe on any red carpet. Take s look at the range of pinks from previous Emmy Awards below:

Vanessa Kirby, Angelina Jolie, Julie Bowen, Emma Roberts, & Halle Berry at the Emmy Awards.
Maisie Williams, Giuliana Rancic, & Elisabeth Moss at the Emmy Awards.
Beth Behrs, Sophia Bush, Thandiwe Newton, Giuliana Rancic, Sophie Turner Jonas at the Emmy Awards.
Sarah Jessica Parker, Keri Russell, Jewel, Alexis Bledel, & January Jones at the Emmy Awards.
Lena Dunham, Dascha Polanco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Vanessa Bayer, & Halsey at the Emmy Awards.
Vanessa Kirby, Yara Shahidi, Sandra Oh, Beanie Feldstein, & Debra Messing at the Emmy Awards.
Thandiwe Newton, Rose Byrne, Hannah Einbinder, Hannah Waddingham, & Tracee Ellis Ross at the Emmy Awards.
Brooke Shields, Jane Fonda, Tracee Ellis Ross, Viola Davis, & Zooey Deschanel at the Emmy Awards.
Uzo Aduba, MJ Rodriguez, Elisabeth Moss, Angela Bassett, & Padma Lakshmi at the Emmy Awards.
Taraji P. Henson, Mandy Moore, Marisa Tomei, & Susan Kelechi Watts at the Emmy Awards.

Who wore your favorite pink look? Do you like a midi dress in pastel pink or prefer a dramatic gown in a neon pink? What colors do you like pink paired with? Who are you rooting for at tomorrow’s Emmys? #RedCarpet Review: All The Looks From The 2015 #Emmys, Including #BestDressed Stars Kerry Washington, Lady Gaga, & More!

Tonight’s Emmy awards are already causing a buzz all over the internet, especially among fashion bloggers everywhere. I have nothing but love to show for all the female nominees & presenters on the red carpet. At the end of the day, it’s all about positively celebrating today’s most talented women. However, when it comes to fashion, there’s a legacy about the red carpet & seeing high-end couture & designers’ visions come to life on some of our favorite stars.

Some of my favorites walked the red carpet in California’s sweltering heat to the beat of their own stylish drum, including Scandal star Kerry Washington (in Marc Jacobs), Modern Family star Sarah Hyland (in Zac Posen), a bold January Jones (in  Ulyana Sergeenko), Empire‘s Cookie, Taraji P. Henson (in Alexander Wang), & funny girl Amy Schumer (in Zac Posen).

In this latest Red Carpet Review post, we’re one step closer to rounding out this year’s awards season with the red carpet looks from tonight’s 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The ceremony is currently airing & there’s so much movie news to report, however some of the hottest & most-talked-about celebrities have made a splash in couture, following the runway trends, including black gowns (like what we saw at the Golden Globes) on Anne Hathaway (in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture), Elisabeth Moss (in Dolce & Gabbana), Naya Rivera (in Donna Karan), Michelle Dockery (in Chado Ralph Rucci), Tina Fey (in Oscar de la Renta), Jaimie Alexander (in Marc Bouwer) & Kelly Osbourne (in Jenny Packham).

Also, side parts for hair are big, as seen on Jessica Chastain (in Alexander McQueen), Katrina Bowden (in Badgley Mischka), & Naomi Watts (in Marchesa). Colors of the night that popped were pretty pinks & purples on Lea Michele (in Valentino), Nina Dobrev (in Elie Saab), Freida Pinto (in Roland Mouret), & Sally Field (in J. Mendel).

There was a classic & regal combination of blue & navy hues hit the red carpet with Amanda Seyfried (in Zac Posen), Jordin Sparks, Nicole Kidman (in Vivienne Westwood), Jennifer Lawrence (in Christian Dior Haute Couture), Giuliana Rancic (in Max Azria Atelier), & Edie Flaco (in Chagoury).

Lastly, colorblocking & mixed tones in black & white were a hit, featured on Claire Danes (in Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci), January Jones (in Prabal Gurung), Julianna Margulies, & Julianne Moore (in Chanel Haute Couture).

Top 10 Celeb Sightings: Ladies Love Black, Including Krysten Ritter, Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Greene, & More!

Now that the Golden Globes have been analyzed to death, we can look forward to the stars celebrating awards season in between shows (we’ve yet to see what’s going to happen on the red carpets from the SAG Awards & Oscars!). However, a big trend at the Globes was the color black & it seems it has returned to the red carpet & the celebrities are loving it! I’ve always been a fan of a classic LBD, but here we see all sorts of black making a major statement.  This includes my favorite looks from Krysten Ritter in a peek-a-boo dress & then Krysten Ritter again in a Dior jacket with a pencil skirt & Brian Atwood shoes.  Also, other favorites include Ashley Greene‘s leather peplum look, Scarlett Johansson‘s Dolce & Gabbana outfit with Irene Neuwirth earrings, & Miranda Kerr‘s continuously enviable street style, accessorized by Givenchy & Barbara Bui.

I’m also sharing looks by Anne Hathaway in a striped dress ensemble with a Stella McCartney faux leather bag, Elisabeth Moss‘ leather look with leopard pumps, Emmy Rossum in a sweet polka dot dress by Theia, Naomi Watts‘ appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in a Roland Mouret LBD with Rupert Sanderson sandals, & Renee Zellweger at a Hugo Boss event in Berlin in a halter dress with Christian Louboutin spiked pumps.

Some of my favorites include Zooey Deschanel in a princess-like Reem Acra look, Julie Bowen in neon Monique Lhuillier, Claire Danes as a blushing mom-to-be in Lanvin, & Christina Hendricks in a belted design by Christian Siriano. Who are you rooting for? I’m a big fan of Girls, so keep an eye out for the very multi-talented Lena Dunham! Check out the gallery & share with readers which looks are your favorites! Enjoy the show! Red Carpet Review: Heidi Klum, Drew Barrymore, & Zooey Deschanel In Glitters, Sparkle, Pastel, Details, Pink, & Pretty at the 2011 Emmy’s (Part Three)!

When it came to glitz, & glamour, the stars were on hand at this year’s Emmy Awards.  There were no details left behind during the red carpet festivities & we learned that the ladies love some sparkle & pastel hues.  In a hodge-podge of images below, we see some of our favorites succeed with their luxury looks & some give it an honorable try.

Jennifer Carpenter wore this blush beaded Tony Ward Couture gown with Martin Katz jewelry.  Cat Deeley went for some super glamour in this gold beaded Monique Lhuillier gown with Bulgari diamonds & a metallic clutch to complete the look.  Taraji P. Henson could’ve used a little help in this embellished Blumarine column gown, although her Fred Leighton drop earrings & cocktail ring helped the look.  Maria Bello glowed in the one-shoulder Kaufmanfranco column gown with a satin clutch & Martin Katz cocktail ring.  Christina Hendricks never shies away from showing off her best assets & this Johanna Johnson gown hugs her curves in all the right ways.  I could’ve done without the slit in the front, but she still looks like a million bucks.  Drew Barrymore took the stage with the new cast of ABC’s Charlie’s Angels in a Givenchy couture gown with Jimmy Choo platforms & gems by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss was stunning in this encrusted illusion gown by Marchesa.  Padma Lakshmi looked golden in this Armani Prive gown with Jimmy Choo sandals & her own jewelry.  Jane Krakowski looked a little over-tanned in this white deep-v gown with a jewel embellishment, but for a lady who recently had a baby, her body looks fantastic.  Kudos to her for showing it off!  The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies puzzled critics in this Armani Prive lampshade-corset white gown with peculiar embellishments.  Heidi Klum supported Project Runway winner Christian Siriano in a custom-made greige (gray / beige) ruffled cocktail dress with colorful jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz & extra high Christian Louboutin heels.  Charlie’s Angels star (& former Grey’s Anatomy doctor) Rachael Taylor made her Emmy’s debut in a memorable way with this iridescent beaded Giorgio Armani column gown with diamonds by Neil Lane.

The stars were also pretty in pink, for example, Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter showed that she’s all grown up in this powdered pink botanical-themed halter dress with diamond flower studs & matching ring by Jamie Wolf.  Jayma Mays channeled her inner ballerina in this tiered Zuhair Murad gown with a Swarovski clutch, Brian Atwood shoes, & Neil Lane jewelry & brooch.  Rashida Jones looked ladylike in a pink Alberta Ferretti strapless number with bangles by Van Cleef & Arpels.  Footloose star & former Dancing with the Stars champ Julianne Hough took a risk in this multi-tonal Carolina Herrera gown with jewelry by Forevermark.  Zooey Deschanel disappointed in this bubble gum pink Monique Lhuillier gown with a red sash. Even though she’s so pretty & stylish, the whole look seemed like a costume.  Anyone agree?

I wanted to feature Raising Hope‘s Martha Plimton in my red-theme Emmy post, but was unable to find an adequate image at the time, so here is she is, looking beyond gorgeous in a curve-hugging sparkly Zac Posen dress.  Elizabeth McGovern wore a merlot-hued sweetheart dress, but I wish that the clutch didn’t blend in so much- something gold would’ve been especially gorgeous against the rich hue.  Hostess of the night, Jane Lynch, turned heads in a strapless David Meister gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.  Sarah Hyland also collaborated with Christian Siriano with Grecian-inspired coral belted dress & Lorraince Schwartz jewelry.  Julia Stiles has never looked better on a red carpet wearing this lavender Georges Hobeika gown with a clutch by Kotur.

We’ve seen dozens of looks from the stars in red, black, blue, & now the paler, sparkly hues… Have you picked your favorite?  Do you think Taraji P. Henson & Zooey Deschanel could do better?  What would you have liked to see them wear on the red carpet?  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Banana Republic & ‘Mad Men’ Style!

It’s impossible to suggest that TV does not influence fashion & vice versa.  Carrie Bradshaw anyone? Anyway, you better watch out for fall fashions at Banana Republic, where we’re seeing a straight-from-the-set collaboration of Mad Men‘s costumer designer Janie Bryant with the retailer.  Courtesy of In Style, we have a sneak peek at the fall line which will hit your local stores on August 10th!  Bryant told the magazine, “The collection is about dressing with effortlessly chic style, bringing a dressed up look to American style for the modern man and woman.”  You can pick being a Joan (Christina Hendricks), Peg (Elisabeth Moss), or Betty (January Jones), looking super sensational with a whole lot of vintage.  These separates are also great for pairing with more modern pieces like a one-shoulder top, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, or cropped pants.  In addition, there are tailored mens looks included in the line, which you can spot by going to the magazine’s article.

*Note: The outfits in the picture to the far right are not sold at Banana Republic.  That is simply a promotional image to show the styles of three characters.  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Golden Globe Awards!

What better way to return to the blogging circuit than with a Red Carpet Review for this year’s Golden Globe Awards?  There were so many delicious trends that I couldn’t nail which one was my favorite since black & green are both my favorite colors.  There were splashes of blush & rose, shimmering metallics, blues & reds, funky risk-takers, long sleeves & ruffles… where to begin.

Since Natalie Portman, winner for her role in Black Swan, was THE actress everyone has been talking about this season, let’s go with the pinks… Here she is wearing a pink strapless Viktor & Rolf rose embellished gown.  Also, Lea Michele wears a pink one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta ruffled gown.  Claire Danes sticks to one of her favorites with a neon Calvin Klein collection halter gown. Emma Stone went a backless peachy sherbert-hued Calvin Klein collection column dress. Julianna Margulies went with two-tones in a pink & black strapless vintage YSL strapless number.  Megan Fox flaunts in a custom-designed pale pink Giorgio Armani slitted gown.  Sandra Bullock shows off some sparkled in a rosy, intricately beaded Jenny Peckham design.

Neutrals were all the rage, spanning from nudes to ambers in prints, chiffon, sparkles, & sleek numbers. Anne Hathaway dazzles in an amber open back shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive long-sleeved gown. Leighton Meester shows off the long-sleeved trend in a nude Burberry long-sleeved printed gown. Carrie Underwood glows in a Badgley Mischka quartz sequin strapless fishtail sweetheart gown. Scarlett Johansson shimmers in an Old Hollywood plunging blush Elie Saab dress. Heather Morris is sleek in a neutral shimmering gown by Lorena Sarbu. Julie Bowen loves her ruffles in a Tadashi Shoji appliqué gown. Dianna Agron looks like a princess in a blush silk chiffon J. Mendel strapless beaded gown. Sarah Hyland is warm in a Max Azria cafe au lait crystal embellished sweetheart gown.

Green was a surprising choice for some of this year’s nominees and presenters, but the deep regal and bold hue stood out on the red carpet in long-sleeved, one-shoulder, and strapless numbers. Catherine Zeta-Jones exudes elegance in a forest green textured dress by Monique Lhuillier. Mila Kunis is statuesque in an emerald one-shoulder gown by Vera Wang. Elisabeth Moss looks radiant in a hunter green Donna Karan strapless design. Angelina Jolie steals the green trend with a shimmering emerald green long-sleeved Versace gown.

Blue wasn’t the most popular color of the night, but here are three stunning looks in different shades of the color, which are timeless and chic. Amy Adams is gorgeous in a strapless teal blue Marchesa with lasercut detailing & a scalloped bodice. Jane Krakowski glows with maternal joy in a cornflower lace-trimmed Badgley Mischka one-shoulder gown. Mandy Moore is Grecian-inspired in a blue Monique Lhuillier gown.

While we’re talking about solid colors, those basics are effortless to pull off, but here we have three looks in reds & orange that lit up again a glamorous Hollywood red carpet. Christina Hendricks is sexy in a red ruffled one-shoulder Romona Keveza gown. Sofia Vergara channels her inner vixen in a reverse corseted Vera Wang. January Jones wears a custom colored red plunging fringed Versace gown. Kyra Sedgwick stands out in a bright mango Emilio Pucci silk chiffon gown.

You can’t have an awards show without some shimmer. At any age, in any style, shimmer is always a go-to choice for such a fabulous event like the Golden Globes. Screen legend Jane Fonda shines in a George Hobieka sharp-shouldered long-sleeved black embellished gown. Olivia Wilde wows like a princess in a chocolate ombre sequined Marchesa gown. Winner Melissa Leo keeps it simple but elegant in a black shimmering -Lora- gown. Amber Riley goes gunmetal in a figure flattering belted sequined Oliver Tolentino one-shoulder gown. Jessalyn Gilsig sparkles in an eggplant jacquard David Meister strapless gown.

My favorite of the night, if I had to choose, would have to be the black gowns. Black proves time & time again to be not just the stand-by, but the effortless classic that we all know & love. Julia Stiles ruffles up in a black mermaid Romona Keveza tulle one-shoulder gown. Eva Longoria (in my favorite look of the night overall) brings new meaning to simple in a black cap sleeved Zac Posen dress with an embellished belt. Jayma Mays turns back time in a sparkly black art deco Alberta Ferretti dress. Halle Berry proves that age ain’t nothing but a number in a black bustier Nina Ricci mini/overlay dress.

Where there are dark dresses, there will be lighter dresses. These stars turned to whites, creams, & pearl hues to show off their Hollywood style. Nicole Kidman stands tall in a cream belted column gown by Prada. Jennifer Lopez contrasts her honey glow with a draped white Zuhair Murad gown. Hailee Stienfeld looks youthful & age appropriate in a Prabul Gurung halter. Jennifer Love Hewitt shimmers in a pale blue Romona Keveza ruffled & bejeweled gown. Gia Mantegna, a.k.a. Miss Golden Globe, debuts in a silver floral appliqué gown with a black sash.

And last but not least, we have an ode to the risk-takers. With beads, flowers, ruffles, & disco, there will always be the ones who stay true to their style with someone fabulous & risky. Christina Aguilera pays homage to her inner burlesque gal in a sheer black beaded Zuhair Murad sweetheart gown. Michelle Williams is sunny in a daisy-printed Valentino gown. Nominee Jennifer Lawrence makes her mark in a swirling asymmetrical Louis Vuitton dress. Heidi Klum models a 70’s inspired Marc Jacob’s printed halter gown.

We still have the SAGs, Oscars, & Grammys coming up, so stay tuned for some more exciting Hollywood style!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2010 Emmy Awards, Featuring Claire Danes, Heidi Klum, Kim Kardashian, & More!

It was obvious that the small screen stars were bringing the larger than life glamour to the red carpet for Sunday’s 62nd Emmy Awards.  All the leading ladies of television were following the trends of black, white, navy, & one-shoulders.  Let’s just start with my absolute favorite of the night. Instantly, I knew that this would be a crowd-pleaser, guaranteed to be published in fashion magazines across the world. Claire Danes, pictured below, in a shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive strapless mermaid dress.  Already it is listed on InStyle‘s Look of the Day.

Surely, Monday night’s presentation of E!‘s Fashion Police will agree with me.  Regretfully, I didn’t get a chance to see the beautiful & talented Claire in the HBO movie Temple Grandin, for which she was nominated, but as soon as I saw this dress, I knew she was going to win for Best Lead Actress in a TV Movie.  Just like when Charlize Theron wore her gold body-hugging Gucci gown to the 2004 Oscars, winning for her role in Monster, & Sandra Bullock wore her gold / silver Marchesa dress to this year’s Oscars, winning for her role in The Blind Side.  A gold dress is a winner’s dress! As for the black trend, I was surprised b/c not many stars take the tricky color under consideration.  Of course, black done the right way is slimming, but for such an elegant affair, to risk losing some of its detail & beauty in photographs is where black goes wrong sometimes.  Anyway, take a look here at Julianna Margulies in L’Wren Scott, Heidi Klum in Marchesa, Eva Longoria-Parker in Robert Rodriguez, Julia Louis Dreyfus in Narciso Rodriguez, & Kelly Osbourne in Tony Ward Couture:

I guess you can’t have black dresses without the white ones & there was no shortage of that at the Emmy’s also.  White was a favorite among celebrities with figure flattering designs, metallic embellishments, & gorgeous hair. Here we have the white selection with Rose Byrne in Gucci, Kim Kardashian in Marchesa, Julie Benz in Pamella Roland Resort 2010, Brooke Burke, & Amber Riley:

An equally regal & stunning choice was navy on the red carpet.  Lea Michele told Ryan Seacrest that she hadn’t worn blue lately & it reminded her of the summer midnight sky.  The romantically decadent color was found in all shapes with dramatic ruffles, ruching, & Grecian draping.  My favorite picks for navy are Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta, Jayma Mays in Burberry Prorsum, Julie Bowen in J. Mendel, Padma Lakshmi in Marchesa, Edie Falco, & Connie Britton:

Lastly, a trend that’s been all over the runways & red carpets for a few years now that’s always a flattering choice is the one-shoulder look.  The celebrities who embraced this were Emily Blunt in Christian Dior, Jane Lynch in Ali Rahimi, Emily Deschanel in Max Azria Atelier, Nina Dobrev in Zuhair Murad, Elisabeth Moss in Donna Karan, & Cheryl Hines in Zac Posen:

Although I didn’t mention this in my intro, I’d like to point out the risk-takers, in my opinion, who both rocked their looks & maybe didn’t succeed as they’d hoped, but still, they deserve some praise.  I’m not saying that I don’t like these looks, but for me, they qualify as risk-takers.  Whether they were experimenting with lace, beads, prints, shape, or hemline, they stole the attention on the red carpet for just a little bit longer than the rest. Check out Diana Agron in Carolina Herrera, Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta, Jane Krakowski in Escada, January Jones in Atelier Versace, Rutina Wesley, Sofia Vergara in Carolina Herrera, Jewel in Zuhair Murad, Kristen Wiig, & Maria Menounos in Ralph & Russo:

My predictions on the gowns that will be most knocked off are: Claire Danes’ Armani Prive, January Jones’ Atelier Versace, Kim Kardashian’s Marchesa, Emily Deschanel’s Max Azria Atelier, Heidi Klum’s Marchesa, & Eva Longoria’s Robert Rodriguez.  Also, my only gripe with the whole evening was the absence of past favorites like the cast of Grey’s Anatomy & Desperate Housewives.  Stars like Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl (well, not anymore), & Ellen Pompeo, as well as Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, & Teri Hatcher were always interesting to watch on the red carpet, but alas, a new generation of Gleeks, reality show stars, & vampires have invaded the scene.  Happy Styling!
