Watch This Style: The Most Stylish Films of Awards Season & 2017!

There’s so much holiday talk in the air, but it’s also another season! All the best & most highly-anticipated films are about to hit theaters for awards season, which means that some of today’s most in-demand actresses are making jaw-dropping red carpet appearances, speaking at press events, & doing the talk show rounds, inspiring viewers with their class, intelligence, talent, & style. Aside from the excitement of seeing who is wearing what, the fashion in these films is definitely worth talking about. I was recently talking to some writer friends about how I haven’t been very enthusiastic about movies lately, especially since there’s so much amazing television on these days, but my mind is changed. I’m gushing over the visual candy that is La La Land, the retro elegance in Rules Don’t Apply & Jackie, as well as the high fashion stakes set in Miss Sloane & Nocturnal Animals (Directed by acclaimed designer Tom Ford).

The variety of inspiration comes from period pieces, high fashion cinema, & futuristic sci-fi vibes, which means that anything is possible when it comes to not only escaping into the big screen, but also into your wardrobe’s potential. After tallying up the riveting trailers I’ve been seeing on television lately & replaying some favorites on YouTube, here are just 11 of the best, starring the stylish likes of Marion Cotillard, Emma Watson, Hailee Steinfeld, Scarlett JohanssonTaraji P. HensonOctavia SpencerJanelle Monae, Natalie Portman, Jessica Biel, Haley Bennett, Emma Stone, Michelle Williams, Jessica Chastain, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Annette Bening, Elle Fanning, & Lily Collins.

Watch This Style: Congrats to Taylor Swift, Nominated for 9 VMAs!

Taylor Swift 1989 featuring Shake It Off, Blank Space, Style, & Bad Blood.Clearly, there’s no stopping Taylor Swift, the most influential & famous pop star on the charts right now. On top of the wild success of her 1989 album, the country-turned-pop singer has just been nominated for a total of nine MTV Video Music Award nominations, for her ultra chic & high profile music videos, “Bad Blood” & “Blank Space.”

Taylor Swift Bad Blood music video poster

The star-studded “Bad Blood” video, set in futuristic London when tough girls (á la Sin City) rule the world, features an ensemble slew of Taylor’s a-list gal pals like singer Selena Gomez, models Karlie Kloss & Gigi Hadid, Girls showrunner Lena Dunham, The Honest Company entrepreneur Jessica Alba, singer Zendaya, Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, British pop sensation Ellie Goulding, model Martha Hunt, Empire actress Serayah, Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams, Grey’s Anatomy‘s Ellen Pompeo, Law & Order: SVU star Mariska Hargitay, Victoria’s Secret model Lily Aldridge, Paper Towns actress Cara Delevingne, supermodel Cindy Crawford, as well as collaborator on the song, rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Taylow Swift Blank Space style

“Blank Space” is certainly my favorite of Taylor’s 1989 singles & music videos, not just for the fullness of her lyrics, but also the super stylish wardrobe changes Taylor undergoes while performing the song about love gone bad. She’s dripping in decadent jewels & takes risks in bold animal prints, romantic chiffon, sultry lingerie, all while running her heart out in some enviable footwear.

Taylor Swift Style music video

1989‘s first & third singles are worth sharing too, & why not? “Style” is one of Taylor’s artsier music videos, taking on new “stylistic” feats when putting her songs in motion to tell their stories. Also, there’s that ever-catchy “Shake it Off,” which rings true for anyone who has ever been told that they’re wrong for doing what they want.

Taylor Swift Shake It Off

Calvin Harris’ sweetheart isn’t going anywhere & that’s a good thing! Let’s hope to indulge in more Taylor Swift-inspired style choices & embrace life for all of its highs & lows, making something positive from it all. Which Taylor Swift song + video is your favorite? Are you a fan of 1989? Will you be watching this year’s MTV VMAs? Color Me Style: Daily Look’s New Year’s Eve Little Black Dress Style Challenge!

It’s been a very fortuitous holiday season for my blog so far & the style keeps on coming! Style Darling has been invited to participate in Daily Look‘s New Year’s Eve Style Challenge, featuring the website’s best little black dresses to sport from party-to-party before the year is up. Of course there are many ways to don classic black, a favorite to feature in Color Me Style, such as lace, leather, silk, satin, along with many different shapes & styles.

However, before we get started, I’ve had LBDs on my mind, especially when there’s so much celebrity inspiration hitting the red carpet.  For example, Diane Kruger in a black lace Elie Saab cocktail dress with a black Osman blazer, a graphic Charlotte Olympia clutch, & striped lace-up Sophia Webster heels. Also, Scandal star Kerry Washington makes a bold statement in a leather little black dress with Jennifer Fisher jewelry & white pumps. Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o was stunning in a ruffled LBD by Fitriani, black pumps, & jewelry headband.

Diane Kruger, Kerry Washington, & Lupita Nyong'o.Cameron Diaz, Hailee Steinfeld, & Nicola Peltz. Also,  Cameron Diaz dazzled in little black dress by Isabel Marant with a quilted Chanel purse & Givenchy ankle-strap sandals. Hollywood it-girl Hailee Steinfeld was chic in a black high-neck David Koma pencil dress with capped silver pumps. Newcomer Nicola Peltz played with her youthful style in a black cut-out dress by Michael Kors with strappy sandals.

There’s so much to look forward to when it comes to upcoming fashion trends, but the little black dress is here to stay, especially when seen with runway inspiration from the recent Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear Collections that hit the runway during this past Fashion Week season. LBDs were seen on the runway in modern cuts, with plunging necklines, embellished details, cinched wasitlines, sweetheart necklines, & figure flattering shapes. This includes looks from Kenzo, Dolce & Gabbana, & Saint Laurent.

Kenzo. Dolce & Gabbana. Saint Laurent. Sprng 2015 Ready-To-Wear.Alexander Wang. Anthony Vaccarello. Vera Wang. Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear.Also, I just had to share these stunning looks from the Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear from designers Alexander Wang, Anthony Vaccarello, & Vera Wang.

Now that there’s LBD inspiration oozing off the screen, here are some of the best little black dresses from Daily Look, which can work for a variety of shapes & sizes, if you want to show off your legs, neckline, figure, or shoulders.

Daily Look. Little Black Dresses.

SHOP: pleated a-line midi dress ($59.99), mesh strip midi dress ($44.99), bejeweled cuffs bodycon dress ($49.99), lovely lace midi dress ($49.99), jersey knit long sleeve maxi dress ($55.99), & jessa open back midi dress ($59.99).

You can’t shop for New Year’s Eve without considering some blinged-out accessories, sparkling jewelry, & sexy shoes to complete your look, which is why I picked some of the most affordable & investment-worthy pieces to really bring out your inner glam girl.

Daily Look Accessories.SHOP: fringe earrings ($16.99), sequin multicolor clutch ($44.99), vixen cross strap heel ($39.99), harmony stone plated necklace ($24.99), sparkling pave link bracelet ($64.99), simple strap heel ($39.99), Jane Taylor rhinestone clutch ($64.99), & J.O.A. square pearl ring ($19.99).

Lastly, when it comes to the holidays, not only do your outfits get a chance to shine, but also your beauty look is allowed to be a little extra special, which is why I’ve shared some of my favorite celebrity looks that emphasize one facial feature or makeup style in order to show off the best version of you. This includes new mom Mila Kunis who nails a smoky eye & neutral lip for a dramatic & sexy look, prefect for any cocktail dress. Ingenue Bella Thorne plays with metallic eyeshadows to emphasize the shape of her eyes, as well as play up the glitz of the holiday with playful hues. Experiment with bright eyeliners like Jessica Biel who is making quite the beauty statement with an edgy turquoise swipe of a pencil underneath her lower lash line.

Mila Kunis, Bella Thorne, & Jessica Biel.Beyonce, Reese Witherspoon, & Rita Ora.Another way to play up your eyes is to follow Beyoncé‘s lead with winged liner, recalling a dramatic Cleopatra look that works with a sheath dress or sleek jumpsuit. American sweetheart Reese Witherspoon goes for a soft look with rosy cheeks & classic makeup, which easily makes you photo-ready before the ball drops. Brit singer Rita Ora looks stunning with a bold red lip that draws on her Old Hollywood appeal for some vintage inspiration, perhaps paired with a lacy or beaded frock.

For those of you who didn’t know.. The CDFA Fashion Awards are like the Oscars in the world of fashion design. This week, the festivities took place, honoring the best in fashion with a stunning red carpet, which included lots of sheer panels, cut-outs, ankle-strap sandals, & bare backs. Winners of the night included Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler as Womenswear Designer of the Year, Thom Browne for Menswear Designer of the Year, & Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim for Accessories Designer of the Year.

Of course, the red carpet was dripping with models like Karlie Kloss in a black deep-v Cushnie et Ochs dress, a golden Karolina Kurkova in a Michael Kors shorts outfit, Adriana Lima showing off her legs in a sheer Givenchy dress, & Miranda Kerr looking as flirty & pretty as ever in a printed Proenza Schouler dress with strappy shoes.

Some of my favorite celeb looks were no-brainers like Kerry Washington‘s ode to Beauty & the Beast in a yellow Jason Wu gown, Nicole Richie‘s slinky gold Marc Jacobs dress, Sofia Vergara‘s plunging, emerald Hervé L. Leroux gown, an adorable Hailee Steinfeld in a floral print Suno dress, & Kate Mara‘s black lasercut Dolce & Gabbana dress with Irene Neuwirth jewelry.

Designer’s Best: AnnaSophia Robb, Kristen Stewart, Hailee Steinfeld, & More In Louis Vuitton’s Checkered Print!

One of the most memorable galleries that I posted from Paris Fashion Week was of the Louis Vuitton Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear Collection, which featured a breathtakingly refreshing look at checkered prints. These looks, which have certainly made their mark on fashion, have been seen all of the red carpets since, proving that Louis Vuitton is a brand worth knowing beyond their famous handbags.

Kirsten Dunst chose the rust & white combination to wear while attending The 2013 Art of Elysium Heaven Gala, accessorizing the look with pointy matching Jimmy Choo pumps. InStyle cover girl Jessica Alba showed her support for the magazine at their Golden Globes after-party with black patent leather pumps by Casadei. It-girl Kerry Washington showed her flirty & feminine side in a pastel version at a Berlin press event for her latest film, Django Unchained, with a VC Signature clutch & towering white & metallic pointy toe pumps. Actress Hailee Steinfeld made an entrance in a romper at a Vitamin Water / Sally Hansen-sponsored event, while celebrating her 16th birthday!Kirsten Dunst, Jessica Alba, Kerry Washington, Hailee Steinfeld, Berenice Bejo, Kristen Stewart & AnnaSophia Robb.

Last year’s Oscar-nominated French import Berenice Bejo walked the red carpet at the premiere of Populaire with red suede pumps, stacked bangles, & a sparkling clutch. Kristen Stewart showed some leg at a Tokyo press conference for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two in a shorts romper with strappy Brian Atwood heels. Most recently, The Carrie Diaries up-and-comer & cover girl AnnaSophia Robb posed for Teen Vogue in a midriff-baring top & mini skirt from the collection.

Would you wear a checkered look? Do you like the color combinations or the way these celebs have styled their Louis Vuitton pieces? Which designers do you like the follow on the runway & red carpets? Runway Rundown: Hailee Steinfeld Starring in Miu Miu Ads!

While we’re not seeing Hailee Steinfeld on the runways of Paris or Milan, we are seeing her take runway looks straight from a photo shoot into the laps of fashion magazine readers everywhere!  The Academy Award nominee has been named the new spokesmodel for the latest campaign by designer Miu Miu.  Here we can see the ads, starring the fourteen-year-old actress as very serious, sultry, vintage, & downright beautiful!  After recently catching her breakout role as Mattie Ross in True Grit, I was blown away b/c I knew how gorgeously she debuted on the red carpet during last year’s awards season. She’s following in the footsteps of Katie Holmes, Vanessa Paradis, & Kirsten Dunst who have each previously modeled for the brand.

I usually don’t say how much I love muted colors like brown & navy, but I can see how a young girl like her can make these pieces work in her everyday professional life.  Of course, Miu Miu is an expensive brand name, but we can translate the idea of pairing these colors of silhouettes together & confidently stand as Style Darlings! Also, for those of you who don’t know, Miu Miu is a brand derived from the house of Prada.  It’s also a nickname to designer Miuccia Prada.

When I hear Prada, I can’t help but think of young Hailee b/c she has been seen so frequently sporting looks by the designer. She’s such a perfect fit, exuding youth, sophistication, & a modern sensibility when it comes to fashion.  I wish I was so lucky at that age!

First Hailee is wearing a long sleeved shift dress by Miu Miu at the brand’s fashion show.  Next, she sports the swan trend (yes, there is one!) at the 61st Berlin Festival celebrating the premiere of True Grit.  She went for edgy stripes in Prada for the 17th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (the same dress that Amanda Seyfried wore on the cover of Elle).  Last, she wears a dazzling sequined outfit with a tea-length skirt, & satin pumps to the Orange British Academy Film Awards.  So you see that she is already a trend setter at such a young age.  Keep an eye out for the actress who appears next in a remake of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, as none other than Juliet! To check out more looks from the designer, head to Net-A-Porter, Shop Style, & Neiman Marcus. And if you’re looking to see more from Miss Hailee, take a look at In Style‘s profile of her best red carpet appearances!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards (PART TWO)!

Let’s continue our fun & fashionable talk about this Sunday’s 17th Annual SAG awards.  Our two final categories are the darker looks & the risk-takers.  There’s so much to talk about & even after seeing E!’s Fashion Police last night, I can’t get Joan Rivers’ voice out of my head!

The red carpet beauties embraced black & dark colors in classic silhouettes like one-shoulder, a pencil LBD, sweetheart neckline, & even the daring Julie Bowen shows off an awards show-worthy pantsuit by Catherine Maladrino!  She’s an innovative & underestimated fashionista- Sofia Vergara better watch out!

I just can’t explain how much I truly loved Dianna Agron‘s gorgeous navy Chanel tea-length dress.  She’s the one to watch, of all the Gleek red carpet darlings.

Kim Kardashian killed in a plum Marchesa, although I’m still scratching my head as to why she was in attendance, having no credible acting talent.  Don’t get me wrong, the girl has style, but for these occasions, I like to see the front-runners of the industry showing off their glamorous side.

Perhaps of the classic all-black looks, Amber Riley gets the A+ for going all out glam in a figure-flattering ruched mermaid gown by Anne Barge, originally designed as a bridal gown, but turned into raven for the actress.  Her sleek chunky bangs & super straight hair reminded me of Jennifer Hudson‘s early red carpet days.

Parks & Recreation‘s Amy Poehler & The Closer‘s Kyra Sedgwick never looked more elegant than these age-appropriate black dresses!  I did consider featuring Mad Men‘s Christina Hendricks in the risk-taker section, but I actually love her smoldering vintage look with a smoky eye.  She usually embraces something sweet or bold, exuding flirty sex appeal, but here we see a more dramatic side to her belted L’Wren Scott sparkler.

The risk takers of the night were all about color, pattern, volume, & secrets.  Claire Danes utilizes patterns in a floral, January Jones takes on printed lace (her first time wearing Carolina Herrera!), Hailee Steinfeld is youthful in stripes (she even wore a hot pink lips ring!), & Mila Kunis wears a watercolor pattern. Although Claire was the only winner of the group, she was on-trend with a long belt for her sweeping dress.

By color, I’m talking Sofia Vergara giving new meaning to “baby blues!”  Watch out Jennifer Lopez, there’s a new Latina on the red carpet & she’s not going out without a bang!  Volume exists in Jenna Ushkowitz‘s creamy ruffled dress (perhaps one size too small?) & her Glee co-star Jane Lynch shows her purple side in a less than flattering wrap gown, but still gives a good effort!  I say secrets because of Nicole Kidman‘s Nina Ricci lacey dress with a very sexy & effortless lace back.

February 27th is the 83rd Academy Awards ceremony, so mark your calendars & break out your spanx!  My bet is on Natalie Portman to simply steal the show, like winner Sandra Bullock did the year before.  Nominees include Nicole Kidman, Melissa Leo, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, & Hailee Steinfeld, so we’ll have to see how those stylish ladies continue their fabulous streak of red carpet excellence!  In days to come, I’ll be on the lookout for SAG knockoffs, perhaps at EDressMe?  Happy Styling!
