Color Me Style: White-Hot White Style For Spring, Inspired by Victoria Beckham, Lily James, Gwen Stefani, & More!

While there’s snow outside during this first week of spring, I have my eye on transitioning between seasons with the color white. Celebrities have made winter white super white-hot, but as we move into the warmer season, a bright pop of white, when it comes to separates, a dress, a full on monochromatic look, & accessories, will certainly look fresh & stylish.

Also, white isn’t just for brides since it works to brighten any skin tone, as we can see during the latest red carpet appearances of some of our favorite A-listers, especially in gorgeous white dresses & gowns.

Shailene Woodley stunned in an ivory silk & organza gown with an open back by Ralph Lauren Collection (shop here) at the London premiere of Insurgent. Supermodel Karlie Kloss went minimal in a white & black accented Tom Ford Fall 2015 Collection cut-out column gown at the Brit Awards red carpet. Brit beauty Elizabeth Hurley hit the red carpet in a white curve-hugging lace-paneled pencil dress with Chopard diamonds, a metallic clutch, & gray pointy toe pumps at the NYC premiere of The Royals. Actress Olga Kurylenko was gorgeous in a sleeveless white midi length dress with a hot pink ombre clutch & metallic rose pumps at The Winter Music Brit Party 2015.

There’s nothing more classic than a white button down shirt, blouse, or t-shirt, but sometimes it’s adding that topper to your color blocked, playful, or formal looks that can transform your entire view on the staple must-have white top.

Wearing white on the bottom is sometimes a big risk, but try mixing up skirts, trousers, & jeans in a quality fabric to get the most out of your favorite blouses, sweaters, & crop tops.

In the first collection from the house of Oscar de la Renta since the legendary designer’s death last October, the essence of the brand’s legacy was reincarnated on the runway during New York Fashion Week. de la Renta’s successor, Peter Copping, paid homage to the fashion house with an acute eye for color in burgundy, navy, purple, & chartreuse. Also, the line featured a sophisticated mix of daytime separates, coatdresses, & classic ballgowns that would perfectly suit the upcoming red carpet at this weekend’s Academy Awards. In support, celebrities who gathered in the front row were “Style” singer Taylor Swift with model bestie Karlie Kloss, as well as the esteemed likes of Barbara Walters. Also, walking in the show was none other than runway darling, Kendall Jenner, who was flawless in one of the major statement gowns, featured above.

During New York Fashion Week, designers Georgina Chapman & Keren Craig nailed their collection, which featured the elegances of the 1920s & Gatsby deco details, as well as romantic embellishments sure to wow on the red carpet on our favorite A-listers. Celebrity fans of Marchesa include Blake Lively, Olivia Wilde, Eva Longoria, Kate Beckinsale, & Olivia Munn, among many fabulous others.  The line showcases everything gorgeous from lace to feathers to beadwork to florals, which is always reinvented & comes to life on Marchesa’s runway.

His latest collection is a sexy & strong mix of menswear inspiration, provocative cut-outs, high shine & luxe materials, as well as a dramatic cape. During the latest Spring 2015 Couture shows, Viktor & Rolf made a splash with their amplified babydoll dresses with dramatic straw hats. The duo played with dimensions against gorgeous colorblocked floral prints built over silk organza petticoats, unexpected ruffles, & avant-garde architecture. Of course, these looks aren’t exactly red carpet-ready; however, there’s something to be said about artistry in fashion, especially when there’s inspiration to be sought from mixing prints & experiments in volume. When it comes to seeking out some style inspiration, turning to my friends is always the best resource, which is how I came to find (from one Marlene) that there was a big trend that’s been building in the fashion world. Fringe is back. Have no fear, when it comes to fringe, it’s all about moderation. I’m not talking about a full-on Western look, or anything crazy from the 70s, but a nod to another time or fantasy world isn’t so bad to include in your day-to-day wardrobe.

Fringe was spotted on the Spring Summer 2015 runways all over the world, especially from designers like Etro, Givenchy, Fendi, Proenza Schouler, Marco de Vincenzo, & Elie Tahari.

One of the biggest jewelry trends to hit the red carpet, runway, & stores including dazzling ear cuffs & sophisticated front to back earrings. I’m crazy for earrings, especially because I have five piercings in each ear, but for those who don’t dare to go under the gun, an ear cuff is the perfect solution. Also, when a stud needs a little something extra, a front to back earring is both delicate & trendy.

Ear cuffs have been spotted & ogled on the red carpet as recently as this year’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards & last year’s Met Gala. One of the most unconventional, yet buzzed about collections that hit the runway during Couture Fashion Week in Paris was Versace‘s new Spring 2015 Couture line. While, it’s risky in nature, playing up the curves of the female form with swirls & twists on transparent paneling- all over- the true couture-ness isn’t as evident. Nonetheless, designer Donatella Versace wowed critics, especially when A-listers like Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, & Kate Hudson showed up in support; the latter of which donned the same red design as above (in a pencil version) while sitting front row beside mom, Goldie Hawn. However, this collection arrives just in time for the upcoming Grammy’s, which makes me believe that nominees & presenters are likely to don some of these runway looks, including Iggy Azalea, Taylor Swift, Jessie J, & Lady Gaga.

Basics for a Bargain: Pretty & Patterned Separates To Amp Up Your Solids (Dedicated to Lisa)!

When it comes to new style resolutions for 2015, an easy way to spruce up a boring wardrobe or upgrade to a more mature style is to step outside of your comfort zone & that starts with prints. An attention to detail immediately shows off your personality & gives off a very positive first impression. I’ve learned (from shows like What Not to Wear) that when you put a thoughtful effort into what you’re wearing, you’ll have more confidence & the people around you will notice. I’d like to dedicate this post to my favorite cousin, Lisa, who has turned to me with advice & questions on how to dress more appropriate to her age, while shopping on a budget & discovering who she is through her own personal style.

When it comes to prints, there are a lot of opportunities to discover your personal style, which is why I turned to recent Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear runway collections for a little inspiration of what’s trending this coming spring.

Of course, not all of these outfits are meant to be taken literally as inspiration, but it’s apparent that the range of prints, from classic to crazy, will instantly amp up any look, including those from Altuzarra, Dries Van Noten, Louis Vuitton, & Valentino.

Also, when it comes to prints, mixing separates with basics is the perfect way to build a variety of outfits for day, work, night, & weekend looks, as seen with these tops & sweaters on actress Jessica Alba, model Miranda Kerr, Glee star Lea Michele, fashion darling Alexa Chung, singer Gwen Stefani, & it-girl Kendall Jenner.

Also, A-listers know how to play with prints when it comes to bottoms, which is why I sought out chic printed shorts, skirts, & pants. Examples include The Americans star Keri Russell, Victoria’s Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio, Oscar nominee Reese Witherspoon, TV personality Kelly Ripa, style icon Olivia Palermo, & actress / fashion blogger Jamie Chung.

First, these printed tops are great building blocks to a more sophisticated look, when layered with staples like a military or moto jacket, flyaway cardigan or cropped bolero, or with leather leggings, tuxedo pants, dark denim jeans, or bootcut trousers.

Also, printed blouses are must-haves when you’d like to sport a clean, professional look. In these colder months, printed sweaters are a fun way to play with patterns, while also staying warm. Also, sweaters in different textures will surely show off a variety of colors to play with when it comes to accessories too!

When headed to the office in a dress or skirt outfit, try on a printed cardigan to wear open or closed over basics like a button down shirt, scoop neck tee, tie-neck blouse, or ruffled camisole.

When it comes to bottoms, we’re often so quick to pick out a pair of jeans or leggings, but wearing prints on your lower half is unexpected & certainly a way to get the most out of your solid tops, like a black turtleneck, three-quarter sleeve sweater, or pocket tee. However, printed skirts are fun since you can not only layer with neutrals, but also enhance your look with a pop of color.

Maxi skirts are everywhere & great when headed on vacation, to a day  by the water, or lunch with the girls, which is why playing with printed maxi skirts has so many possibilities, especially with metallic gladiator sandals, riding boots with button details, & textured wedges.

For those who dare to wear shorts, think outside of the box with printed shorts in delicate fabrics. not only can these be perfect for day, but they’re easy to dress up with decadent pieces in lace, leather, & brocade.

Printed pants aren’t new, but not everyone gives them a chance, especially when concerned about emphasizing your assets in an unflattering way. However, loose-fitting pants in subtle prints are perfect for neutral tops & jackets when on the go. These are also great for pairing with ballet flats or pointy toe stilettos.

Lastly, I’m certainly not saying that anyone should abandon jeans in any way, but perhaps instead of wearing regular washes, try a printed jean, which will not only perk up a casual look, but will surprise those around you, especially when paired with a blouson top, graphic tee, or tunic sweater.

The newest Schiaparelli Spring 2015 Couture collection that hit the runway of Couture Fashion Week in Paris was a pleasant surprise, opening up doors for the brand to soon become a ready-to-wear line. The show also recalled the legacy of Schiaparelli’s aesthetic, but in a modern way to attract a younger & more forward-thinking audience. As models made their way down the pink catwalk & backdrop, the collection embodied 40s-inspiration with graphic prints & metallic details, along with stunning volume in pants, capes, & cascading trains. This is just the second of many of the recent runways that I’ll be sharing for Runway Rundown, but specifically, because of the gorgeous Costume Institute exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2013 when the legendary Elsa Schiaparelli‘s designs were paired with Prada in a visually transporting presentation of timeless style.

Runway Rundown: Christian Dior’s Spring 2015 Couture Show From Paris!

Long Island might be recovering from the big blizzard, Juno, but the web is buzzing about all of the stunning looks coming out of Paris for Couture Fashion Week. This includes Christian Dior‘s newest Spring 2015 Couture collection, led by Raf Simons & inspired by the music of one David Bowie. The collection is nothing short of gorgeous & versatile, mixing guipure lace with graphic prints, as well as classic Dior silhouettes & playful separates that recall Dior’s legacy of elegance with some added pop-rock edge. What’s also pretty amazing is that in every shot, just over the model’s left shoulder, Dior spokesmodel, Natalie Portman, can be spotted. Not only is it likely for her to be seen soon in one of the couture looks, but other famous Dior faces like this year’s Oscar nominee Marion Cotillard & the always stylish Jennifer Lawrence, both of whom are perfect for modeling these looks for upcoming red carpet events.

Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were full of red carpet surprises from veteran A-listers like Cake nominee Jennifer Aniston (in vintage Galliano), Birdman‘s Emma Stone (in Dior Couture), America’s sweetheart Julia Roberts (in Givenchy), Homeland‘s Claire Danes (in Marc Jacobs), & last year’s it-girl, Lupita Nyong’o (in Elie Saab). Also, there were plenty of newcomers who made an impact, including many Orange is the New Black winners like Uzo Aduba (in Angel Sanchez) & Danielle Brooks (in Christian Siriano), as well as Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams (in Self-Portrait).

Some of my favorites of the night included The Imitation Game nominee Keira Knightley (in Erdem), Wild‘s Reese Witherspoon (in Atelier Versace), model & wife, Camila Alves McConauhey (in Donna Karan), designer darling Emmy Rossum (in Armani Prive), Modern Family‘s rising star Sarah Hyland (in Vera Wang), St. Vincent nominee Naomi Watts (in Balenciaga), How to Get Away with Murder winner Viola Davis (in Max Mara), & this season’s golden girl, Still Alice winner, Julianne Moore (in Givenchy).

Now the official countdown to the Academy Awards can begin, which takes place on Sunday February 22nd, sure to wow & inspire more amazing style. Who wore your favorite look? Basics for a Bargain: Spring Dress Predictions, Inspired by Kerry Washington, Allison Williams, & More (Dedicated to Nicole)!

When asking around through social media to some of my friends for some style inspiration since I was stuck on what my next blog post should be, my lovely & brilliant friend, Nicole, inquired about spring dresses to expect for next season, especially when winter is such a rich season for playing with texture & prints when it comes to dresses. For spring, my research tells me that dresses are all about the details- what makes them special, whether it’s lace, metallic embellishment, bold colors / patterns, shine, or shape. I had so much fun getting inspired by dresses from the runway & my favorite A-list celebrities.

The always stylish Girls actress Allison Williams mixed patterns with her paisley printed silk dress by Giambattista Valli with black pumps. Scandal star Kerry Washington played up detail in a checked Prada dress with a violet clutch & metallic Christian Louboutin pointy toe pumps. This season’s Oscar nominee Julianne Moore dared to be different in a cherry red off-the-shoulder Delpozo dress with Givenchy sandals. The adorable & playful Anna Kendrick wore a flirty cobalt blue laser cut Temperley London shirt dress & nude Christian Louboutin pumps when making an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. Former House of Cards co-star Kate Mara donned a lattice paneled little white dress by Vielma with a clutch by Botkier & nude pumps. Lastly, fashion it-girl Camilla Belle did Gucci proud in the brand’s blue printed dress with t-strap pumps.

Also, during Fashion Week, the Spring 2015 Ready-To-Wear Collections that hit the runways were all about detail-oriented dresses, chock full of bold colors, modern twists on classics, floral embellishments, playful prints, & much more!

The Oscar-winner looks chic & winter-ready in her elegant ensemble, perfect to inspire any office look. Last night’s Critic’s Choice Movie Awards kept the awards season momentum going, with not just the celebration of fantastic performances on the big screen, but also with A-listers dressed to the nines, making a stylish splash on the red carpet. This includes some usual favorites like Angelina Jolie (in Atelier Versace), Amy Adams (in Max Mara), Reese Witherspoon (in Lanvin), Emily Blunt (in Emilio Pucci), Keira Knightley (in Delpozo), & Jamie Chung (in Yanina Couture). A lot of trends hit the red carpet, including whimsical white, as seen on Rosamund Pike (in Valentino Haute Couture), Marion Cotillard (in Dior), & Jessica Chastain (in Antonio Berardi), as well as black lace on Felicity Jones (in Dolce & Gabbana), Michelle Monaghan (in Elie Saab), & winner, Julianne Moore (in Saint Laurent). Making major style statements for the ceremony were nominee Jennifer Aniston who suited up in a crimson Gucci deep-v black & trousers, & the always perfect Diane Kruger in a printed Naeem Khan gown (as previously featured in the designer’s Pre-Fall 2015 Collection in Runway Rundown).

Jenny Packham is one of Britain’s top designers, famously worn by the likes of Kate Middleton, Emmy Rossum, Nina Dobrev, Kate Winslet, Taylor Swift, & Emma Roberts. Since it’s awards season, there’s no doubt that some, if not most of these looks will appear on the red carpet, especially at this weekend’s Golden Globes. The Pre-Fall 2015 Collection is full of gorgeous column gowns with plenty of sequin & beadwork detail, elegant belts, soft draping, metallic embellishments, & sophisticated pleats.

Watch This Style: Get Inspired By HBO’s ‘Girls’ & Preview The Exciting 4th Season!

If you’ve seen Style Darling‘s Instagram (@MissAlissaL), then you know that I can’t wait for the fourth season premiere of HBO’s Girls. It’s one of those shows that I love because I can relate to it when it comes to friendships & relationships, I laugh my butt off at the wit & ridiculousness of the show’s clueless & brilliant characters, & because it almost always makes me feel a little bit more together as a young woman trying to make it in the world. Also, the show is a terrific example of real-life style from its four main characters: Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham), Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams), Jessa Jenkins (Jemima Kirke), & Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet). Clearly, each character isn’t trotting the streets of New York in impossibly expensive designer duds, which is something else that I can appreciate about the exciting dramedy!

Hannah isn’t without style, but her interpretation combines basics with her quirky sense of self. She’s not afraid of color & pattern, & always wears what she likes above what trends may be most popular. She can be seen in cutesy Peter Pan collared shirts, floral print rompers, teeny sweaters & bright pants, & shoes that she almost always can’t walk in. But we love Hannah because she tries her best to be inspired by the 50s classic cuts & whimsical patterns.

Marnie is certainly the sophisticated shopper among the characters, wearing tailored looks that blend femininity & maturity. She invests in pieces that can be worn a variety of ways, but are still timeless as she seeks to attain a lifestyle equally as fancy as her tastes.

I love watching Jessa for her accessories, which almost always include some sort of feather detail, gemstone, layers of metals, or harder gothic inspiration against the softness of her preferred fabrics.

Shoshanna is the youngest of the girls with a lot to learn about self-editing. She is as accessorized as she is articulate, with plenty of hair styles to match with her girlie, on-trend style. She can be found in form-fitting mini dresses, always looking all sorts of cute because she’s always running into crushes, exes, old friends, & making new friends wherever she goes. Her clothes are party-ready & she’s fearless when it comes to taking fashion risks. No skirt is too short, no heels are too high, & no print is too wacky for her to play with, especially when combined with color-coordinated extras like a statement necklace or stacked bangles.
