Red Carpet Review: Ana de Armas in Louis Vuitton at the Venice Film Festival’s premiere of Blonde!

When I learned that Golden Globe-nominated actress Ana de Armas had arrived in Venice, I was so excited to refresh my feeds to see what the Cuban star would wear to the highly-anticipated premiere of her controversial film, Blonde, where she stars as Marilyn Monroe. Naturally, her red carpet look would be elegant & stunning, but also, I wondered if & how the gown would represent the bombshell icon at the center of the film.

In a bright pink pleated gown with a deep-v by Louis Vuitton, Ana graced the red carpet in true Hollywood fashion. Her gentle waves & sophisticated jewelry by Messika hearken to an era of glamour & ease that offers a refreshing twist on Barbiecore.

Additionally, the hue pays homage to Marilyn’s signature pink from her “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend” musical sequence in the 1949 film Gentleman Prefer Blondes; likewise, the halter & pleated look of Ana’s dress are reminiscent of the iconic subway grate scene in The Seven Year Itch from 1955.

Escorted to the premiere by one of the film’s producers, Brad Pitt, Ana shines, which is no surprise. I hope this marks the beginning of an exciting & stylish press tour for the 2 hour 46-minute film that’s rated NC-17 & is based on the disorienting evocative fictional biography by Joyce Carol Oates that begins streaming on Netflix on September 28th, especially leading up to awards season!

Last night’s MTV Video Music Awards were not a only an exciting celebration of current music, but a stunning, buzz-worthy feat of fashion for the red carpet & stage, including the likes of Taylor Swift in a transparent, diamond encrusted Oscar de a Renta mini dress—the night’s big winner whose major announcement of her upcoming album Midnights will be released on October 21st; rapper Lizzo whose navy Ursula-inspired voluminous gown by Jean Paul Gaultier Couture is the talk of Twitter; singer & actress Sabrina Carpenter in a glitzy retro cut-out dress by Moschino & towering platforms; & model Ashley Graham who celebrated her physique in a Houghton by Katharine Polka black cut-out halter dress. However, the most show-stopping look of the red carpet belonged to rapper Lil Nas X’s opulent, feathered Harris Reed ensemble, including a gravity-defying headdress & tiered skirt.

Aside from Olivia’s remarkable stage & big screen talents, she remains one of fashion’s most underrated & timeless icons, especially after such a long career that endured through many decades of fashion risks, frills, & hairstyles!

Whether Olivia was channeling the mod looks of the 60s, bell-bottoms & peasant dresses of the 70s, pastels & sparkle in the 80s, or tailored menswear inspiration, Olivia’s style has inspired even today’s trendsetters & entertainers. Maybe between Only Murders in the Building & Selena + Chef, I have a little girl crush on Selena Gomez, but who doesn’t? Really? The 30-year-old star continues to celebrate her glamorous arrival into the next chapter of her life while in Italy with rumored beau Andrea Iervolino, making a stylish & sparkling statement in a LaPointe orange sequin tank (shop here) & coordinating Bermuda shorts (shop here).

The look is glamorous, unapologetic, mature, & timeless for a young woman living it up in Capri, a celebrity hotspot as of late, & shopping at YSL. Everyone is talking about Blonde, the new Netflix portrayal of the one & only, Marilyn Monroe, played by Cuban superstar Ana de Armas the full, official trailer was finally released after a teaser trailer & slew of breathtaking images that truly bring Monroe to life on screen in a way that’s always been attempted by previous interpretations of the bombshell’s life, career, & relationships.

The Andrew Dominik-directed adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates’ fictional biography of Monroe’s inner life is rated NC-17 & will be available to stream on September 28th.

This is why Vogue‘s August 2022 issue, featuring Golden Globe-winner, Emma Corrin (they/them), is such a milestone for LGBTQ+ visibility & an opportunity to explore the fluidity of fashion. Emma is the first openly non-binary cover star for the magazine, embracing both fashion & body hair their way—unapologetically!

If you haven’t seen My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Mask, There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, any of the Shrek movies, or The Holiday, then you’re missing out on some 90s-00s film gold for the entertainment & charm that Cameron serves up on screen. Hence, why the blogosphere is in a tizzy over her highly-anticipated big screen return.
