For Independence Day, rather than donning an obviously flag shirt or branded tee from a store, I chose to feature a favorite pattern of mine in a way that can celebrate the holiday, summer season, & still appear stylish. Polka dots are always a great idea! They’re timeless & stylish for a variety of occasions, especially this July weekend!

Cover Craze: Natalie Portman Talks Thor: Love and Thunder for Variety!

Natalie Portman is everywhere right now, promoting the heck out of her new movie & return to the Marvel Universe as Jane Foster in Thor: Love and Thunder, which hits theaters on July 8th. Style Darling Daily previously posted about Natalie’s gorgeous rose gold Celine dress to the Los Angeles premiere of the film, but she also appears on the cover of Variety, striking a superhero pose in structured pieces from Christian Dior (which Natalie is a spokesperson for), Iris Van Herpen, & more.

The article, written by Adam B. Vary, includes not only Natalie’s reflection on her career, including the painstaking transformation that she experienced while filming Black Swan, her Academy Award-winning role, but also she discusses family, giving back, activism for women’s rights, & upcoming projects, including Lady in the Lake for Apple TV+.

Natalie speaks to the publication about her own superhero experiences and wishes, along with how she prepared for the role.

On the red carpet for the premiere, Natalie continues to praise her fellow superheroes, stating how lucky she feels to be a part of such an important role for young girls.

Also, last month, Natalie appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, interviewed by comedy actor Sean Hayes, for more fun discussion about the film & Natalie’s preparations for it.

When it comes to fashion & function, I try my best to have as few outfit changes in a day so that what I wear to start the day is what I’m wearing to end the day, unless, of course, there is a special occasion to take into consideration; however, comfortable & stylish footwear for the summer should not be compromised when it comes to leading a busy life. As a Style Darling mom on-the-go, I am usually sporting something a little flashier (meaning, blingier) than average, which keeps me happy, but also ensures that I’ve invested in a piece that I really care about. For example, for a flat sandal, why not go metallic for the everyday, so that it can easily transition from a daytime affair, such as a family gathering or carnival, to a nighttime event, like a wedding or cocktail party. 07/01/2022 Darling of the Day: Stranger Things Star Maya Hawke Does Denim-On-Denim in Dior for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon!

Stranger Things breakout star Maya Hawke is brilliant, charming, disarming, & super talented–not to mention that she is an advocate for women’s rights, as seen on her recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she not only discussed the highly anticipated second volume of Stranger Things‘ season four on Netflix, but she spoke about the recent overturning of Roe V. Wade by the Supreme Court.

Also, the actress recounted a 2021 essay written by her mother, Academy Award nominee, Uma Thurman, for the Washington Post, regarding her own experiences as a teen having an abortion. I’m so impressed by Maya’s wherewithal & forthcoming advocacy for this human rights violation, & speaking about her mother’s right to freedom of choice, on such a visible platform to educate & inspire young people–not just women–everywhere to take action to own their bodies.

Additionally, Maya attended the interview all smiles, even in its most sincere moments, but also in head-to-toe denim by Dior with a jacket (shop here), jeans (shop here), & closed toe gladiator flats (shop similar here), appearing relatable & comfortable with Jimmy Fallon, who stated that he held young Maya as a baby while spending time with the Thurman-Hawke family.

Red Carpet Review: Selena Gomez Celebrates the Kind Words Launch of Rare Beauty in Alexander McQueen!

Selena Gomez is at it again! No, she’s not solving murders, like her character, Mable Mora, does on Only Murders in the Building. No, she’s not cooking up a feast for her friends & family, like she does on the hit HBOMax show Selena + Chef. No, she’s not singing her heart out, like she did on her most recent album, Revelacion. This time, she’s promoting her new lipstick & lip liner launch for her cosmetics brand, Rare Beauty, Kind Words in effortless, mature, & elegant style.

The mogul & entertainer stepped out in a Santa Monica Sephora wearing a blazer mini dress with lace detailing by Alexander McQueen (shop similar here) from the Fall/Winter 2022 collection, finished with Jimmy Choo Minny sandals in black (shop here), maintaining a polished, professional, & posh style for yet another blogworthy appearance, as seen below.

In an email interview with Harper’s Bazaar last month, Selena revealed the process behind developing the Kind Words matter lip colors, along with her favorites, stating: “I wanted to create a classic lipstick that’s truly comfortable. Every shade is easy and wearable, and just perfect for every day…This is everything I’ve ever wanted in a lip liner. Super smooth and doesn’t tug on your lips and made to last all day without feeling sticky.”

In the same Harper’s Bazaar piece, Selena adds, “I’ve been testing and wearing these products for the past year with my friends and makeup artists. This year, I’ve worn the lipstick and liners to the SAG Awards, Critics Choice Awards, Only Murders in the Building press days, and on my days off…I can’t stop wearing the new Kind Words Matte Lip Liner in Fun, which I have been pairing with the Kind Words Matte Lipstick in Lively. Fun is a beautiful neutral mauve, and Lively is more of a rose-pink shade, and they complement each other well. If I want a bold lip look, my go-to is Gifted, which is a deep dusty plum. That’s what I’m wearing in the campaign! The lipsticks and liners are so easy to wear, because they’re comfortable and creamy, so the lips stay soft and supple. I love this collection because every shade is wearable and perfect for an everyday look whether I’m mixing and matching or wearing the same shades.”

Cover Craze: Zendaya’s Disco Glam Looks for Vogue Italia’s July 2022 Cover!

Zendaya could not get any more beautiful, yet here she is again, living it up in full-on glamour for the July 2022 issue of Vogue Italia, photographed by Elizaveta Porodina, wearing a couture jeweled Valentino minidress on the sultry cover with a statement Bulgari necklace & bold violet eyeshadow, which is very reminiscent of the beauty looks that characters on Euphoria wear. Am I right?

According to Vogue Italia‘s Instagram, Zendaya epitomizes the current generation of pioneering women, whom the actress credits black women of the past who have aided in her own success. The artistic images not only prove Zendaya’s influence on fashion, but also pop culture with her timeless style, refreshing intensity, & poised maturity. Vogue Italia shared Zendaya’s thoughtful reflections on her fame, “Sometimes I feel kind of silly being an actor, but then I remember the stories that I’m telling and the reasons behind them. Especially as of recent with Euphoria, I had so many people reach out and share their experiences of connecting with it, in the sense of loss or addiction or grief or mental illness and their struggles with that.”

More looks in the shoot were styled by Law Roach, featuring pieces from Del Core, Paco Rabanne, The Attico, Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini, & more Bulgari jewels. However, the multi-faceted performer doesn’t get fazed by the designer duds & sparkle, commenting, “For quite some time, I have been able to maintain a minimum of anonymity so that I can do the same things I used to do, living a fairly normal life,” adding about her fans that “they’re really understanding that I’m human, even the hardcore ones and they want me to be happy and I genuinely feel that from them.”

It’s everywhere & yet so far away still! Greta Gerwig‘s live-action Barbie film is currently in production & the internet is ablaze with images & commentary on the ultra neon on-screen duo of Barbie & Ken, played respectively by two-time Academy Award-nominees Margot Robbie & Ryan Gosling. One may ask, could the movie get any blonder? However, you’re going to get more than meets the blinded-by-neon eye from this movie, especially with Gerwig at the helm… which is slated for a July 2023 release. I will be glued to the web with updates over the course of the next year, waiting with bated breath for the first major motion picture about the ultimate Style Darling herself: Barbie.

Red Carpet Review: The Glamorous Styles from the 2022 Daytime Emmy Awards!

This weekend’s Daytime Emmy Awards’ red carpet presented splashes of color, along with strong, dramatic looks. Most notably, pink was polished on actress turned TV personality, Drew Barrymore in a bold magenta Valentino gown, along with soap opera veteran Susan Lucci in a tiered Adam Lippes gown and General Hospital actress Laura Wright wore a pink Halston jumpsuit. Also, there were patterns a-plenty, including on the night’s big winner, Mishael Morgan, the first black winner of the Daytime Emmy for lead drama actress for her work on The Young and the Restless, wearing a black & red flower-patterned Oliver Tolentino design. Also, host and winner Tamron Hall mixed goth with metallics in her gown and Allison Lanier, from The Young and the Restless, hit the red carpet in brown and white animal print. However, General Hospital star Kelly Thiebaud sparkled in bronze in a Magda Butrym design (that singer Victoria Monet just wore to the BET Awards), but both ladies looked amazing! Red Carpet Review: Selena Gomez Sparkles in Michael Kors at the Season 2 Premiere of Only Murders in the Building!

If you haven’t watched season 1 of Only Murders in the Building on Hulu, stop reading & go do it–all 10 episodes!

However, if you’re excited for season 2 to drop TODAY, just like I am, you’ll be extra psyched to see the show’s star, Selena Gomez, in all of her silver sparkly glory at the season 2 premiere in Los Angeles yesterday. With a cut-out & super high slit gown by Michael Kors, plus a beachy/glam ponytail, shimmering hoop earrings by Effy Jewelry (shop similar here), & makeup, no doubt, from her Rare Beauty collection, this is Selena’s best red carpet look EVER, IMO. When it comes to summer, I’m wearing dresses most of the time, which also means, depending on the style of dress, I’ve selected a belt to add some shape to an otherwise too flowy frock or I’m playing with the possibilities of a casual dress for other occasions. For summer, I love a belt with texture & detail, including braided styles that recall a basket weave aesthetic or one in straw material. When always on the hunt for great bargains to share with readers, my mouse clicked upon the skinny braided leather belt from J.Crew Factory, originally $49.50, but currently on sale for $19.50 in white, sweet marigold, California poppy, & brown.

The style is exactly what I gravitate towards this time of year; however, it is only sold in sizes XS-L, so my search continued to celebrate styles for all & I was wowed by the variety offered by Lane Bryant in sizes 14-28, pictured below:

Accessories Access: A Bold Crossbody Bag for Summer!

We’re almost at the close of June & my head & heart are already in vacation mode… & so is my wardrobe. I’ve always been able to find stylish, colorful, & multipurpose crossbody bags from Target & their A New Day brand has not let me down, yet again.

I came across this basket weave woven crossbody bag ($30.00) in coral pink, lime green, black, & teal blue in a bold display in the accessories department of my local Target store. More frequently now on the weekends, I’m opting for a smaller corssbody bag when I’m on the go, as opposed to the monster tote that I carry around all the time. Something like this with a nearly 52-inch strap length & canvas accent, especially in the coral pink, gets me excited for my family’s upcoming roadtrip to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, carrying all of my essentials, like my cell phone, ID & money, lip balm, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, & sunglasses.

I’ve been using the same crossbody from last summer, which is also one by A New Day, but it’s become more of my casual, everyday bag & for my vacation, I like the feeling of something new. The bright shade will match perfectly with an array of outfits, including a maxi dress & flat sandals for dinner, a graphic tee & linen shorts while at a park, or a blouse & cropped pants for a trip to a museum.

This includes leading lady Natalie Portman who sparkled in rose gold Celine Couture mini dress, the always stunning Tessa Thompson who was sleek in a cut-out Armani Prive column gown, badass Karen Gillan who played with florals in an Oscar de la Renta mini, Kat Dennings wore a flirty black mini dress by Alessandra Rich, Elsa Pataky stepped out in a plunging Dundas gown, Xochitl Gomez struck a pose in a red Monot, Eternals actress Lia McHugh wore a floral ruffle PatBo gown, & Jaimie Alexander‘s purple Marc Jacobs number made a statement. Even though it feels like summer is just getting started, now is a great time to shop the racks & clearance finds to prepare for next fall/winter as stores attempt to clear out their inventory for new summer arrivals & the holidays. Looking back at my own personal style choices for the previous cooler months, I was glued to the many email blasts that I would receive from New York & Company, missing the local store in my nearby mall dearly; however, during my absence from the blogosphere in that time, I did find some stylish, comfortable, & timeless pieces that I will definitely usher into rotation for the next seasons to come.

This includes the following 4 pieces from New York & Company, all of which are now $9.99 -$19.99 on final sale, and up to 71%-89% off their original price, though there is limited size availability. These pieces come highly recommended as I do own each of them & love pairing them up with separates in different ways.

SHOP: butterfly-print midi skirt ($9.99), currently available in sizes M-XXL. The material is scuba-like, which means it’s heavier than a ponte, but it offers a lot of movement to be paired with the following suggested items: opague tights, patent leather pumps, & a crisp white button down shirt.

SHOP: Whitney high-waisted pull-on slim leg pant ($19.99), which is available sizes XS-XXL, as well as in petite. I suggest pairing this for a special occasion, such as around the holidays or a date night out, with a ruffle blouse & metallic sandals or bold cardigan & suede ballet flats.

SHOP: cable-knit v-neck sweater ($9.99) in beige or black, available in size XXL for both. This is an oversized sweater in the right way to pair up with faux leather leggings & stud earrings for a cozy day or plaid pants & colorblock heels for work.

On sunny, summer days, aside from packing some sunscreen & shades, I keep reminding myself to invest in a stylish & fun floppy hat to protect my face from sun damage. I’m excited to have found the perfectly feminine, playful, & affordable floppy straw hat to add to my accessories arsenal, which is the packable straw floppy hat by Shade & Shore from Target for $10.00, available in 6 stylish colors: natural, black, green, orange, pink, and white. However, my current conundrum is: which color to choose?

I can picture wearing the neutral or green hat with a summer separates outfit in earth tones for an afternoon at the park, the black with my favorite maxi dress & studded sandals for a day date with my husband, the orange or pink with a swimsuit & flip flops for a day at the beach, or the white one for a patriotic look this coming 4th of July. And… for $10, why stop at getting just one hat?!

The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, made her first patronage to work with the charity organization, Smart Works, that works with women who are seeking to improve their job pursuits (via interview skills & wardrobe choices). The mother-to-be arrived in a black materntiy t-shirt dress by Hatch & Oscar de la Renta coat with a Victoria Beckham purse & cow print heels. The looks was in keeping with her minimalist elegance, especially as she radiated with positivity & style.
