The memory of Elizabeth Taylorcan finally thrive on the big screen with the latest BBC movie, Burton & Taylor, which documents the twice-divorced couple the theater for their 1983 production of Private Lives. In this short first look at the made-for-television movie, I’m super impressed by Helena Bonham Carter‘s spot-on representation of the violet-eyed movie legend. Also, Dominic West as Burton seems a good match against HBC who captures Taylor’s every seductive & playful stare. The film will premiere on July 22nd so check your local listings & set up your DVRs!
When it comes to ad campaigns, I’m always excited to see celebrities in action wielding a fashion or beauty brand. However, in the spirit of style, the Italian brand, Miu Miu, has gathered a group of models, including Adriana Lima & Georgia May Jagger, to represent their latest Fall 2013 collection. The mixture of prints with pops of color create a fun, flirty, & fall-ready combination of looks for the upcoming season. The usual fashion photo shoot contains a slew of models posing for the camera, but this newest campaign shows that models can also dance aside from walk a runway. Also featured in the ad are Katlin Aas, Daphne Groeneveld, Anne Verhallen, & Lindsey Wixson.
All this time here I was thinking that the best legs in Hollywood belonged to actress / mogul Jennifer Lopez or supermodel Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, but the sultry side of Nicole Kidman is out in full force for her latest venture as the face.. err… legs… err feet of Jimmy Choo‘s Autumn / Winter 2013 collection. This is by far the best we’ve ever seen the Australian beauty & not only are there images to show her strut her stuff, but there’s also a short film video that’s gorgeous enough to make any Style Darling break the bank and buy a pair of the luxury footwear! I love the nearly $1,000 shoes, as well as Nicole’s shaggy red wig, which makes her look every bit the bombshell that we love her to be.
“I really enjoyed being able to play a role that was strong, sexy and in control,” she shares, according to People, adding “I got into a relationship with the photographer [Mikael Jansson], & Mikael is very intuitive, he knows what I am thinking & feeling & is able to translate it through the camera.” Inspiration for the shoot came from the photography of Helmut Newton, as well as the strong heroine icons of Alfred Hitchcock films- no doubt including Grace Kelly, who Nicole portrays in her upcoming film, Grace of Monaco.
The brand’s creative director Sandra Choi reveals more behind the campaign & collection. “There is a feeling of a quiet eroticism in the collection, & this concept was brought to life by Nicole’s magnetic presence in front of the camera… Her character portrays the multi-faceted qualities of the Jimmy Choo woman for this season – strong, sexy with a beguiling sense of mystery.“
Last fall, Hollywood’s it-girl Jessica Chastain made her debut as the face of Yves Saint Laurent‘s fragrance Manifesto. it looks like the ad campaign is evolving with a more dramatic edge, showing the raw beauty of the two-time Academy Award nominee in all-black looks with a smoky eye & Veronica Lake-inspired curls. These latest photos were taken by Max Vadukul & under the direction of YSL’s creative director Hedi Slimane. For those of you who haven’t taken a whiff of the $82.00 fragrance, it effervesces with luscious notes of bergamot, green accord, sambac jasmine, wood & vanilla.
These are quite the departure from the previous ad campaign, featuring the Zero Dark Thirty star rolling around in purple paint, as well as bidding on her art work in a gold auction room, as seen in the video below.
In the past, fashionable television shows have included Sex & the City, Gossip Girl, the long-running Mad Men series, & now we can currently add ABC’s primetime soap, Revenge, to the frothy & glossy mix, which often includes to-die-for runway looks brought to life by the show’s leading ladies: Emily VanCamp (Emily), Ashley Madekwe(Ashley), Madeleine Stowe(Victoria), & Christa B. Allen (Charlotte). However, now the show, which will premiere its third season in the fall, is debuting its own beauty line, including a fragrance called Double Infinity, paying homage to Emily’s infinity tattoo, which drives her throughout the story. Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, has been expanding his horizons beyond music with an appearance in the last season of American Horror Story, & now he can add fragrance entrepreneur to his resumé with his debut self-named women’s & men’s scents. In the video below, he starts off by sharing that he’s always hated celebrity fragrances, but then goes into detail why the idea of him backing a scent & getting involved in the process. While the singer is sincere with his intentions, the sexy rock & roll side comes out with flashes of video during his lengthy description.
In an effort to contribute some sort of satirical fashion news for a friend’s new website, The Long Island Leek, I got sidetracked with some male-appropriate fashion-related news that I was super excited to share on this very sunny Father’s Day. Also, it’d been over a year since I last featured something about men’s fashion here on Style Darling, so I thought today was a good day to do it. Last year, I shared that actors like Gary Oldman & Garrett Hedlund not only walked the runway for Prada, but were also featured in the brand’s campaign.
However, leave it to Prada to pick a variety of actors, seasoned & up-and-coming, for their new Menswear Fall / Winter 2013-2014 ad campaign. This time we’re seeing two-time Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained & Inglorious Basterds fame, Skyfall‘s Q British actor Ben Whishaw, & Perks of Being a Wallflower breakout star Ezra Miller, who you might also recognize from 2011’s We Need To Talk About Kevin.
The ads were shot in London by David Sims back in March, which was “inspired by the irreverent world of ’60s New Wave cinema,” & each actor serves as “protagonists in a drama of wit & enigma.” The unconventional leading men are perfect for capturing the ageless & legendary look of Prada for men, inviting the dapper foreigner, pretty boy artist, & solemn brainiac to the table. Additionally, Prada released a behind-the-scenes video of the shoot, which shows the actors-turned-temporary-models in action!
My personal nail art style includes anything sparkly or metallic. I’ve been working so much this later-spring / early-summer already, I have to keep my nails short, which means that I’m looking for a lot of neutral metallic shades, like a glittery rose gold & other non-matte shades. I was a little late joining the I-Love-Scandal bandwagon & shame on me for not taking Olivia Pope‘s side, especially when I’ve been catching up on the series, which stars one of Hollywood’s hottest it-girls, Kerry Washington. Not only did she have a stellar 2012-2013 with the success of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, & her latest comedy Peeples, but the New York native has hit A-list status with her consistently glamorous red carpet appearances, as well as her powerhouse character, Olivia, on the Shonda Rhimes-created television show.

To be completely honest, I wasn’t crazy about supermodel Kate Uptonat first like the rest of the world has been; however, after seeing the beyond-amazing spread in the June 2013 issue of Vogue– the model’s first major American fashion magazine cover- I was won over! She channels a modern-day Marilyn Monroe with classic all-American style, bombshell curves, & old-fashioned ambition to break away from the typical supermodel mold. The cool, edgy scent is geared towards a 25-35 woman, which can be seen in the upcoming, yet-to-be-seen David Fincher-directed TV spots. The print ads were photographed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino, featuring a fresh-faced leather jacket-wearing Rooney, leaning against a brick wall.

Former model / actress Diane Krugeris a German-born beauty who ranks among the A-list when it comes to red carpet appearances, & has certainly proven her acting chops in such films as Inglorious Basterds & Farewell, My Queen. Speaking of time… The Swiss-based watch company, Jaeger Le-Coultre, recently featured Diane in a short film called Reinvent Yourself, which asks the question, how many times can you reinvent yourself in a lifetime?
Well, we can surely ask the powerful likes of Madonna or Lady Gaga that; however, in this beautiful two-minute piece, we are privileged to see a music-video-like project, set to the powerful voice of Shirley Bassey with “(Where Do I Begin) Love Story.”
During a recent interview, Diane had this to say about “It felt very authentic about my life and my friendship with Jaeger Le-Coultre…It pieces together my professional life and my personal life, and I’m very grateful for that.” She also adds, “Everybody in life can relate to laughter or cry for joy or just that moment of something ending, so that was the inspiration there… I had a couple of sad thoughts going through my head on that one…” In addition, she wanted the film to end on a positive note, one that hopefully inspires women. She says, “You’re not just defined by your job, but also by the choices you make as a woman. As a regular Target shopper, I’ve been privileged to seeing the evolution of the retailer’s apparel collection. Over the last few years, we’ve seen magic in collaborations with Jovovich Hawk, Missoni, Prabal Gurung, & most recently Kate Young. In a recent video, the designer talks about his point of view for the line, which looks every bit casual chic with some street smart edge for the modern shopper. In a recent statement, Lim shares, “Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution… One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire—one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible.”
To mark the 100th anniversary of Chanel‘s first boutique, designer Karl Lagerfeldhas cast Oscar-nominated actress Keira Knightleyas leading lady, Coco Chanel, in a short film about the designer’s first outpost in Deauville, France. Once Upon A Time…will premiere on May 8th in Singapore, but will also be available for viewing that night on Chanel-News! Some of you may already know that I share my online writing time with a film news & reviews website, Movie Buzzers, which has also served readers here on Style Darling. One such story includes the new trailer for the fashion documentary, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s. The Matthew Miele-directed documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the ins & outs of one of New York City’s most iconic centers for fashion, Bergdorf Goodman. The title comes from cartoonist Victoria Roberts, whose caption from a classic Bergdorf-obsessed cartoon in New Yorker put all other retailers under par. There are plenty of famous faces talking about, including designers like Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, wrap-dress genius Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award-winner American Michael Kors, shoe-God Christian Louboutin, among countlessly accomplished and glamorous others. Also, personalities like Joan Rivers, designer / celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, Sex & the City costume designer Patricia Fields, and actress Susan Lucci all share their experiences of high-profile exposure at the retailer’s central location on 5th Avenue. In addition to these famous faces, the documentary also includes a look at legendary personal shopper, Betty Halbreich, an 85-year-old employee of Bergdorf Goodman since 1976.

She recently shared her secrets to motherhood, breaking into the wine business, & creating her new cosmetics line, Flower, for Walmart in an interview with Lucky‘s May 2013 issue. Her affinity for playful details like polka dots, kittens, sunglasses, & nautical inspiration is evident in the collaboration which retails at $50.00 a pair. Not to mention that Taylor is using the her foray into fashion as a role model, calling all “brave girls” to share their bravest moments.

The shoot, which took place in Beverly Hills, was inspired by Dolce & Gabbana‘s Spring / Summer 2013 collection. We see a celebration of spring with includes lots of florals, pin-up silhouettes, bright colors, & fun patterns. Christina looks amazing with her big hair, smokey eye, complimenting turquoise jewelry, & soft lip. She’s definitely an inspiration when it comes to style & I love how she celebrates her figure every chance she gets!

The pair were both cast in Drive, and she’s now one of the stars of Gosling’s directorial debut in How To Catch A Monster. Also, during the interview, she talks about the audition process & accepting career setbacks. “It’s something that I’m used to,” she says about rejection. “You’re either right for it or you’re not right for it. You could leave thinking you had the best audition in the world and they say you don’t look like the person I imagined. It has nothing to do with your talent. Someone could have just broken up with a redhead the other day and not want to hire me.“

Her latest effort is a new ad campaign for Pepsi with the short video “Mirrors,” which puts a hip-shaking Bey up against her career highlights in a mirror’s reflection. A troubled Beyoncé is practicing her famous moves in front of mirrors, when a sip of an ice-cold can of Pepsi suddenly revives the diva within.
More specifically, we get to see the Texas-native reunite with her Sasha Fierce alter ego in her “Bootylicious” hot pink costume during her Destiny’s Child days, as well as her tank & shorts look for “Crazy in Love,” & the always fabulous hand armor-baring “Single Ladies” leotard. Also, there are flashes of Beyoncé from past videos including, “Naughty Girl,” “Beautiful Liar,” “Baby Boy,” & “Love On Top.” The theme of the video is: “Embrace your past, but live for now,” which is a phrase I’ve been experiencing all too well these days.
I’m a huge fan of Nashville & think it’s appropriate that the show’s petite star, Hayden Panettiere, is Glamour‘s May 2013 cover girl. The newly engaged star talks to the magazine about shedding her cheerleader image from her years on Heroes, as well as playing the bad-girl-with-a-heart Juliette Barnes on Nashville.
