Cover Craze: Emma Stone Makes Her Vogue Cover Debut!

I’m always a big fan of reading Vogue, the epicenter of fashion when it comes to periodicals, but I don’t very often post about their spreads, even though they’re always super gorgeous.  However, the July issue of the magazine has caught my eye & I can’t get it off my mind.  It-girl Emma Stone makes her debut on the cover, showing off her sultry screen siren side, versus a Mad Hatter-inspired playful menswear look, wearing duds by famous names like Jil Sander, Ralph Lauren, Prada, Versus, Dries Van Noten, & Givenchy by Riccardo Tischi, just to name a few.

The now blonde-tressed actress is in high demand, making the red carpet rounds while promoting The Amazing Spider-Man, opposite rumored beau Andrew Garfield.  Surely, Stone’s red carpet looks are jaw-dropping, but I still can’t get over how the fair-skinned funny girl has transformed into a Style Darling on the rise in the pages of the magazine.

Check out the dazzling images that I’ve included int his edition of Magazine Must-Haves, & if you’re like me, desperate to pin your favorite fashion images to a bulletin board, or keep mag cut-outs in a binder for inspiration, then this issue is the must-have! Happy Styling!

Basics For A Bargain / Red Carpet Review: The Look Of Summer Leather!

Instead of posting yet another click-worthy gallery, I’ve selected these five outstanding red carpet looks, worn recently by some of my favorite celebrities.  Each of them are showing how leather isn’t just a material for the cooler months.  The sexy skin is also no longer just for jacket & bags, as seen in these above photos. Designers are all about texture this season, showing leather off in all sorts of articles of clothing.  This includes dresses, as most frequently seen on the likes of rivaling stars like Angelina Jolie & Jennifer Aniston, but here I’m featuring Rock of Ages actress Julianne Hough in a blue leather dress at the film’s premiere & the always adorable Emma Stone in a red frock by Monique Lhuillier for an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

In addition, trendsetter Alexa Chung mixes her leather motorcycle jacket with a menswear-inspired look, paired with a printed mini skirt, embroidered clutch by Charlotte Olympia, & patent leather flats. Model Karolina Kurkova hit the streets of New York in leather leggings, Monika Chiang sneakers, a printed blouse, & chic double-breasted jacket.  Zoe Kravitz plays with leather & tweed in a black & white ensemble at a cash celebrating Chanel.

For the rest of us on a budget, real leather may not be as tangible, but while keeping animal-friendly, faux leather is always an option, especially with these cute & affordable options to mix up your wardrobe.  Check out the faux leather sheath dress ($27.00) from Venus, which makes the idea of an LBD all the more sexier.  While I was searching through the Venus website, I came across this super sweet faux leather circle skirt ($24.00) in brown, which will toughen up even the most feminine of blouses or dress up the most basic silk camisoles for a stylish night out!

If you’re daring enough to wear leather on your bottom half, head over to Sears for the faux leather leggings ($25.99) which will pair nicely with any bohemian-inspired tunic top, a dolman top, or your favorite tank & blazer.  For more subtle ways to wear leather, Cynthia Steffe has created this Maggie draped faux leather trim top ($47.00), available @Saks Fifth Avenue. To keep a classic faux leather look in your wardrobe, I’ve found this chic faux leather zip front jacket ($27.49 – $29.99) from Fashion Bug, which is sold in sizes Small – 4XL.  This can make any pair of trousers & blouse fiercer & more fashionable because of the front pinhole details & rugged zippers.

Last night’s MTV Movie Awards brought out some big stars, big style, & skin-baring styles.  Some of the headline-making fashions were worn by the stars of some of this year’s biggest films, including Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, & Emma Stone.  The ceremony, hosted by Russell Brand, might not have made MTV history, but the red carpet was ripe with style.  Take a look at the gallery & tell us who your favorite is!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Encrusted Belts By Lanvin @Bergdorf Goodman Vs. An Under $5.00 Find From Charlotte Russe!

Do you need something special & embellished in a belt for this holiday season?  Well, check out these two belts!  Of course, nothing can compare to the luxury & craftsmanship behind the Lanvin label, one that is celebrated by actresses like Emma Stone, Natalie Portman, & Charlize Theron.  However, the price tag for a piece from the legendary brand is way out of budget, along with most of the other fashionable items sold @Bergdorf Goodman.

So in place of the crystal-encrusted clover belt ($1266.00) by Lanvin, here’s a much more inexpensive option that can be found @Charlotte Russe.  The black-gem stretch belt ($4.49) is currently reduced in price from $9.50 & will transform any sheath dress with some jewelry-inspired glamour.

Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Teen Choice Awards Go Glam!

At this weekend’s Teen Choice Awards, young Hollywood came out in full force style! Some of these ladies in line are going to be the next Gwyneth Paltrows, Julianne Moores, & Kate Hudsons of the red carpet.  This is evident in their choice of styling, but let’s get down to who’s wearing who!  First up is Twlight star Ashley Greene who sticks to the pencil dress trend in a color-blocked design by Givenchy.  Zoe Saldana goes metallic in a belted Lanvin frock with shoes by the late great Alexander McQueen.  The Vampire Diaires leading lady, Nina Dobrev, was probably my favorite in this figure flattering D&G dress with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.  Canadian singer Avril Lavigne does some shameless advertising for her brand, Abbey Dawn in a chic LBD & patterned peep toes.  However, it is a nice chang eof pace for the usual punky blonde.  The svelte star of CW’s Nikita, Maggie Q, went all white in a two-piece Max Mara look with black & white pumps- very Mad Men looking, eh?

Next, Lucy Hale took a risk in this sparkling Cengiz Abazoğlu mini dress with Giuseppe Zanotti ankle strap platforms.  It-girl of the moment, Emma Stone, juggled her press tour for The Help, by showing up to the ceremony in a Christian Dior shift dress with jewelry by Irene Neuwirth.  Current In Style Makeover cover girl, Rachel Bilson, looked ultra-femme in a ruffled Chloe dress with Brian Atwood studded ankle booties.  Country crooner, Taylor Swift, channelled Marilyn Monroe in a Rafael Cennamo LWD halter & of course, donned Neil Lane diamonds & bowed silver peep toe pumps.  Last, but not least is Selena Gomez, looking all grown up in an asymmetrical Erin Fetherston minidress & strappy Brian Atwood sandals.

Which is your favorite look?  Who’s your favorite young Style Darling?  Are you loving the little white dress trend?  What’s your favorite black & white look?  For more scoop on red carpet glam, check out Red Carpet Review!  Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Pencil Dresses Inspired by Olivia Wilde, Dianna Agron, Emma Stone, & More!

Pencil dresses are the perfect way to accentuate your figure!  What’s even more fabulous about a dress like this is that you can show off some serious leg without worrying about a short hemline.  No matter your accessories (platforms, peep toes, belts, or chandelier earrings), a pencil dress recalls Old Hollywood & never goes out of style.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley dons a feminine lace Dolce & Gabbana frock with neutral stilettos to a press event in Shanghai.  The softness of the lace details adds dimension, as well as creating a longer legline.  Emma Stone is trendy in a belted black lace pencil dress by Tom Ford, paired with Fred Leighton jewelry for the New York premiere of Crazy Stupid Love.  The Change-Up star Leslie Mann rocked a LWD with sequin accents by Marchesa with a gold clutch & Jimmy Choo peep toes.  Dianna Agron promoted Glee in a velvet Stella McCartney peplum dress & towering YSL platforms.  Lastly, super Style Darling of the moment, Olivia Wilde of Cowboys & Aliens went siren red in a knee-length Antonio Berardi pencil sheath with satin Brian Atwood pumps.

I’ve selected some super cute & affordable pencil dresses that are the foundation to any cocktail or work look.  We’ll start with the printed belted sheath dress from Macy’s by Charter Club, which costs $44.99.  If you break out your store card & check your local newspaper for coupons, you can reap the rewards of this great deal that can be made to look more professional with a blazer or jazzed up by switching the belt for something metallic.  Also, click here to see this dress is available in sizes 14W – 24W.  Next, @Victoria’s Secret, you can find a form-fitting tee midi dress for $59.50, that can be dressed up or down with just a few simple accessories, but really makes an impression as a stand-alone LBD.  Kohl’s sells this illusion brush stroke dress by AB Studio, which looks like a blouse & pencil skirt, but it is put together in one fashionable piece for only $41.30.

For my fuller-figured Style Darlings, I did find a mega sexy red dress from Torrid which runs in sizes 16-26.  No wonder it’s called Stop Staring! Red Millions Dollar Baby Dress, although it costs $120.50 (which is a lot for our budget, but this is definitely a dress that you can get a lot of miles out of for work or a wedding!).  It can be downplayed for a day at the office with a printed cardigan or simply worn for a fancy night out with black patent pumps, like those pictured.  Over @White House Black Market, I came across an affordable steal of a dress- the white jacquard strapless dress for $39.98, marked down from $158.00! It’s perfect to wear this season or it can be saved for the holidays with a sequined bolero cardy.  Over @ASOS, this cafe creme cowl front pencil dress costs $46.55.  The dress just calls out for a subtle, but complimentary animal print, like a leopard belt or chunky cut-out booties.  Also, it kind of reminds me of the slinky, nude dress that Carrie wore on her first date with Big in the first season of Sex & the City!

For more celebrities wearing pencil dresses, check out Rachel McAdams & Uma Thurman at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival in Red Carpet Review, as well as a Darling of the Day post featuring Sophia Bush wearing Ann Taylor. For more Basics for a Bargain, check out my post on pencil skirts inspired by Jennifer Lopez & Kate Bosworth, as well as denim dresses like those worn by Pippa Middleton & Reese Witherspoon! Color Me Style: ‘Orange’ You Glad You’re In Orange?

Bright rich hues are the hot for summer, especially those in the  orange family.  Not everyone can pull of the boldness of persimmon, tangerine, or saffron, but here we have some stylish examples of how to pull off the tricky color in a dress.  Eva Longoria dons an ASOS sheath with coordinating Brian Atwood slingbacks.  Emma Stone plays up her auburn locks at a Today Show appearance.  Olivia Palermo shows off a Victoria Beckham design with leopard pumps & a pink Sondra Roberts clutch.  The Tree of Life star Jessica Chastain mixes hues with bright pink sandals.  Jennifer Aniston breaks out of her LBD with this draped cut-out Vivienne Westwood dress & Christian Louboutins.  Lastly, Kristin Cavallari wears a Jessica Barkley mini dress with nude pumps. To really play up this color, choose softer tones like neutrals in your accessories, or go a little bolder with bright pinks & animal-inspired shoes.  Also, nothing looks better with this color than a healthy tan (but DO avoid tanning beds), but as you can see on Emma & Jessica, a pale glow can also work with the right orange tone!

The selected dresses range in their orange hues from cinnamon to tangerine, & are all under $50! First, the ruched jersey dress by AGB is available @Macy’s.  Second, Urban Outfitters has this Sparkle & Fade knit bow back dress for $48.00.  If orange really isn’t for you, then this orange / red cotton-blend dress from Lulu’s might work better for you.  @Jessica London, this side ruche dress is flattering on many shapes & is currently marked down to $39.99.  The fifth dress is chiffon in rust from Forever 21 & can be coordinated with many different accessories like a chunky or metallic belts & a crochet vest.  Finally, the one-shoulder Bar III dress from Macy’s is reduced in price to $37.49 & can be matched with platform sandals & stacked bangles. Check out our previous Color Me Style posts for more color-coordinated style finds!  Happy Styling!

7/6/11 Darling of the Day: Emma Stone Goes Biker Chic at a Screening for ‘The Help!’

At a recent screening for her new movie, The Help, Emma Stone stepped out in her signature red locks with some serious biker chic duds!  She paired a black leather motorcycle jacket with a basic gray tee & cropped gray skinny pants.  Adding a little sense of femininity to the whole, she sports some majorly pointy black pumps, which are coming back this fall!

Any body type can pull off this look! To find a patch pocket gray top like this for my plus size readers, check out this link to Forever 21! Cuffed & cropped pants are super chic for any outfit, however for sizes up to 20, gray skinny jeans would do the trick just the same as well!  A leather jacket is the perfect way to finish off a look & here Emma gets us ready for fall by doing just that!  While it was hard to find one in a plus size, this DKNYC jacket from 6PM is motorcycle-inspired & produces the same edgy effect for an outfit like this.  Also, jackets are a struggle for even petite sizes as well & here’s a stylish option!

Lastly, let’s talk about shoes!  I mentioned earlier that pointy pumps are coming back & this we’ve seen a whole lot on Kate Walsh, Kerry Washington, & Cameron Diaz! The selected pair comes from Victoria’s Secret & is also available in red!

Emma has been previously featured in our Darling of the Day posts, so check her out here! Also, if you wanna check out a sneak peek of The Help, check out my article on Movie Buzzers! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 SAG Awards (PART ONE)!

Last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards were a red carpet dream come true, filled with florals, belted looks, sparkles, brights, & enough black & white to go around.  Oscar de la Renta was the most worn designer & the stars were frosted in names like Fred Leighton, Neil Lane, Chopard, Lorraine Schwartz, & Swarovski.  Scroll your mouse over each image to see who’s wearing which designers.

My favorite of the night was an unexpected ballerina-inspired pale pink Monique Lhuillier ruffled number that Angie Harmon wore, although some may say that its beauty was Oscar-worthy & too overdressed for this event. With that, here we have the ladies wearing blush & pink showing off their femininity & boldness.  We saw a splash of pink at last month’s Golden Globe awards with Claire Danes, Lea Michele, & Megan Fox.

We can see that Jennifer Lawrence‘s whirlwind award’s season is only getting better after her ruffled Louis Vuitton pick.  I can’t wait to see what she’ll choose to wear at the Oscars- she’s nominated for her gritty performance in Winter’s Bone.

We saw Christina Hendricks & January Jones showing off their love of red, but here we have four looks (including one demure burnt orange, a little warmer than Emma Stone’s coral) proving that no gorgeous color or design can clash with the red carpet at this event if you’re confident.  Tina Fey‘s red Oscar de la Renta was a most unexpected choice for the usually conservative comedienne, but I’m sure critics will love her bold choice, especially after last year’s stunner. For more on Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2011 collection, click here.

Other nominees lit up the red carpet with thier elegant choices, embracing a deep crimson, magenta red, & a pretty pumpkin.  These rich colors make for incredible photographs & remind us of how truly stunning the female form can look in a column-inspired gown.  Whather cinched at the waist or knotted for a Grecian-style, these dresses made each starlet look like a tall glass of glamour!

Everybody was dying to see what glowing mother-to-be Natalie Portman was going to wear & she turned this white Azzaro number into a ridiculously chic maternity gown that would put red carpet moms-to-be like Angelina Jolie, Heidi Klum, & Naomi Watts to shame. White was definitely on-trend with Amy Adams & a creamy Rosario Dawson presented her own interpretation as well! Winona Ryder‘s Alberta Ferretti creation reminded me so much of a modern-day version of this famous Marilyn Monroe dress.

It isn’t a true awards show without some sparkle.  Bejeweled looks have been a staple for the red carpet in recent years, as we’ve seen on Sandra Bullock, Claire Danes, & Cameron Diaz.  Adding glistening touches to dresses with color was a popular trend too!  It must’ve been winner & Oscar-bound actress Melissa Leo of The Fighter who stole the sparkle show with a fitted golden number & a plunging neckline.

While other sparkles were subtle & elegant, none could quiet compare, but we have to give it up to Eva Longoria & Jayma Mays for their stylish efforts.  We could look forward to some of these fabulous ladies at the upcoming Oscar ceremony- that’s for sure!

Glee stars Lea Michele (keeping with her Globes Oscar de la Renta choice) & Naya Ramirez were on hand to lend some youthful glow to this parade of glitters.  We can see the diversity in a plunging neckline, a modest one-shoulder, spaghetti straps, & a short-sleeved dress in a hint of periwinkle.

Well, there’s really only so much fashion a girl can handle, but I’m excited to report that tomorrow’s post will contain the dark, black, & purple dresses (like Dianna Agron), as well as the risk takers of the night (including one of my favorites- Claire Danes!).  Any questions, comments, or suggestions are always welcome!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Golden Globe Awards!

What better way to return to the blogging circuit than with a Red Carpet Review for this year’s Golden Globe Awards?  There were so many delicious trends that I couldn’t nail which one was my favorite since black & green are both my favorite colors.  There were splashes of blush & rose, shimmering metallics, blues & reds, funky risk-takers, long sleeves & ruffles… where to begin.

Since Natalie Portman, winner for her role in Black Swan, was THE actress everyone has been talking about this season, let’s go with the pinks… Here she is wearing a pink strapless Viktor & Rolf rose embellished gown.  Also, Lea Michele wears a pink one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta ruffled gown.  Claire Danes sticks to one of her favorites with a neon Calvin Klein collection halter gown. Emma Stone went a backless peachy sherbert-hued Calvin Klein collection column dress. Julianna Margulies went with two-tones in a pink & black strapless vintage YSL strapless number.  Megan Fox flaunts in a custom-designed pale pink Giorgio Armani slitted gown.  Sandra Bullock shows off some sparkled in a rosy, intricately beaded Jenny Peckham design.

Neutrals were all the rage, spanning from nudes to ambers in prints, chiffon, sparkles, & sleek numbers. Anne Hathaway dazzles in an amber open back shimmering Giorgio Armani Prive long-sleeved gown. Leighton Meester shows off the long-sleeved trend in a nude Burberry long-sleeved printed gown. Carrie Underwood glows in a Badgley Mischka quartz sequin strapless fishtail sweetheart gown. Scarlett Johansson shimmers in an Old Hollywood plunging blush Elie Saab dress. Heather Morris is sleek in a neutral shimmering gown by Lorena Sarbu. Julie Bowen loves her ruffles in a Tadashi Shoji appliqué gown. Dianna Agron looks like a princess in a blush silk chiffon J. Mendel strapless beaded gown. Sarah Hyland is warm in a Max Azria cafe au lait crystal embellished sweetheart gown.

Green was a surprising choice for some of this year’s nominees and presenters, but the deep regal and bold hue stood out on the red carpet in long-sleeved, one-shoulder, and strapless numbers. Catherine Zeta-Jones exudes elegance in a forest green textured dress by Monique Lhuillier. Mila Kunis is statuesque in an emerald one-shoulder gown by Vera Wang. Elisabeth Moss looks radiant in a hunter green Donna Karan strapless design. Angelina Jolie steals the green trend with a shimmering emerald green long-sleeved Versace gown.

Blue wasn’t the most popular color of the night, but here are three stunning looks in different shades of the color, which are timeless and chic. Amy Adams is gorgeous in a strapless teal blue Marchesa with lasercut detailing & a scalloped bodice. Jane Krakowski glows with maternal joy in a cornflower lace-trimmed Badgley Mischka one-shoulder gown. Mandy Moore is Grecian-inspired in a blue Monique Lhuillier gown.

While we’re talking about solid colors, those basics are effortless to pull off, but here we have three looks in reds & orange that lit up again a glamorous Hollywood red carpet. Christina Hendricks is sexy in a red ruffled one-shoulder Romona Keveza gown. Sofia Vergara channels her inner vixen in a reverse corseted Vera Wang. January Jones wears a custom colored red plunging fringed Versace gown. Kyra Sedgwick stands out in a bright mango Emilio Pucci silk chiffon gown.

You can’t have an awards show without some shimmer. At any age, in any style, shimmer is always a go-to choice for such a fabulous event like the Golden Globes. Screen legend Jane Fonda shines in a George Hobieka sharp-shouldered long-sleeved black embellished gown. Olivia Wilde wows like a princess in a chocolate ombre sequined Marchesa gown. Winner Melissa Leo keeps it simple but elegant in a black shimmering -Lora- gown. Amber Riley goes gunmetal in a figure flattering belted sequined Oliver Tolentino one-shoulder gown. Jessalyn Gilsig sparkles in an eggplant jacquard David Meister strapless gown.

My favorite of the night, if I had to choose, would have to be the black gowns. Black proves time & time again to be not just the stand-by, but the effortless classic that we all know & love. Julia Stiles ruffles up in a black mermaid Romona Keveza tulle one-shoulder gown. Eva Longoria (in my favorite look of the night overall) brings new meaning to simple in a black cap sleeved Zac Posen dress with an embellished belt. Jayma Mays turns back time in a sparkly black art deco Alberta Ferretti dress. Halle Berry proves that age ain’t nothing but a number in a black bustier Nina Ricci mini/overlay dress.

Where there are dark dresses, there will be lighter dresses. These stars turned to whites, creams, & pearl hues to show off their Hollywood style. Nicole Kidman stands tall in a cream belted column gown by Prada. Jennifer Lopez contrasts her honey glow with a draped white Zuhair Murad gown. Hailee Stienfeld looks youthful & age appropriate in a Prabul Gurung halter. Jennifer Love Hewitt shimmers in a pale blue Romona Keveza ruffled & bejeweled gown. Gia Mantegna, a.k.a. Miss Golden Globe, debuts in a silver floral appliqué gown with a black sash.

And last but not least, we have an ode to the risk-takers. With beads, flowers, ruffles, & disco, there will always be the ones who stay true to their style with someone fabulous & risky. Christina Aguilera pays homage to her inner burlesque gal in a sheer black beaded Zuhair Murad sweetheart gown. Michelle Williams is sunny in a daisy-printed Valentino gown. Nominee Jennifer Lawrence makes her mark in a swirling asymmetrical Louis Vuitton dress. Heidi Klum models a 70’s inspired Marc Jacob’s printed halter gown.

We still have the SAGs, Oscars, & Grammys coming up, so stay tuned for some more exciting Hollywood style!  Happy Styling!
