Show Me the Shoes: Your Next Add-To-Cart Tweed Ballet Flats!

As tomorrow marks the last day of summer, I’m not quite ready to bid adieu to my maxi dresses & sandals. My heart just isn’t there yet, but my eyes are on the fashionable fall prize… & so is my finger as I click my mouse to Add-to-Cart! I can’t even think about wearing heavy layers or hefty fabrics, but they just kept finding their way into my social media. Case in point:

SHOP: tweed ballet flats in black @Ardene ($19.90, available in sizes 6-10). Not only do I adore the tweed fabric, but also, the chunky buckle across the pointy toe cries out for black polka dot tights & a cardigan with pencil skirt outfit—fit for any teacher or professor (like myself!) this fall.

Currently, Ardene has a 30% off on select shoes, for customers in the U. S., so this is getting more & more tempting! Tweed never goes out of style & creates the perfect juxtaposition of textures when paired with lace or florals of similar color scheme!

How would you style these flats? Do you experiment with different kinds of hardware or embellishments in footwear? What’s your must-have fall favorite? Inside a Style Blogger’s Closet: Professor Style Then & Now!

The picture from 2017 was taken in front of my parents’ house in Lake Grove for my first day of teaching (as Professor LeClair) a college class & I had no idea the path I was about to fashionably forge or how my life would change over the next 5 years! When I recently uncovered the tropical dress from deep storage (that I was unable to unpack or even mentally tackle for a good 2 years), I remembered that I hadn’t worn the dress since that very first, nerve-wracking day of a career I never wanted; however, with the launch of my sixth academic year as an English professor (as Professor Gambino), I thought it was “fitting” to break it out again.

Of course, I accessorized it differently, opting for white accents & skipped the belt, but it’s good to know that 40 or do classes later, I still got it! The top picture on the right was taken this morning, a beautiful summer morning as the buzz of academia awaited me & called so many back to their jobs after a long break. I’d like to look back on both of these moments as bursting with possibility & new starts, reminding myself that they do come back around, even when it seems like fate has stuck you in a never-ending cycle.

Ultimately, recycling old favorites to make them feel new again & doing my very best to live the stylish life (one day at a time) are goals that I hope to uphold now that I’ve reclaimed a part of myself (& my style) in finally having my wardrobe where I want it to be. Stay tuned for more detailed updates on the unveiling of my cloffice (a.k.a. Style Darling Daily headquarters).

As for the outfit: The dress is an oldie from my stylist days @Dressbarn, as is the black bolero. The recent picture includes a @New York & Company cardigan & @Ardene flats, as well as oldie @Dressbarn drop earrings.

Show Me the Shoes: Summer Sandal Must-Haves!

While summer is the best time to indulge in flip flops of all colors, textures, & materials, the season’s go-to shoe is always a sandal, which includes any kind of mostly open shoe. Lately, sandals have been all over: with wedge heels, block heels, platform heels, as mules, as ankle strap, as slingback, & more. In celebration of summer sandals with still so much of July & all of August ahead of us, here’s to some recent picks–all marked down with limited availability–of summer sandal must-haves.

When thinking of a patterned shoe, gingham screams summer, calling for a white eyelet dress, linen blend romper, or blouse & shorts look. If you like gingham, like in the sandals below, check out my recent gingham post featuring items from Old Navy!

SHOP: Covington gingham ankle strap heels (available in 4 colors, sizes 5-11, on sale: $14.50 with code: HALFSIES) @Lulu’s.

Braided sandals are another major shoe trend this season, which offers a playful, sophisticated way to dress up any casual look or maxi dress, especially when wanting to expand the color palette of your ensemble.

SHOP: braided slip-on sandals (available in 4 colors, sizes 5-10, $17.99) @Forever 21.

For a dressier option to usher in fall, suede with a braiding detail & neutral tone will help you get a longer wear out of maxi skirts, linen pieces, & summer denim.

SHOP: Jene suede sandal (available in 4 colors, sizes 5-11, on sale: $65.00) @Banana Republic.

Sandals with flare also make for a fun option as seersucker & polka dots coordinate with other pops of color, including a red cotton dress or chambray shirt dress.

SHOP: strappy fabric leather sandals (available in 2 colors, sizes 6-10, $69.50 / get 40% off with code: OMG) @LOFT.

To get on board with jelly & chain options, these seemingly patent leather finds will elevate any casual look when wanting to be comfortable at an outdoor barbecue or afternoon at the park.

SHOP: chain jelly sandals (available in 2 colors, sizes 6-10, on sale: $10.00) @Ardene.

If you’re headed to a daytime wedding or looking for casual Friday sandals, anything with buckles, animal prints, & pastels will elevate an outfit.

SHOP: Fioni Sullivan bit thong sandal (available in 3 colors, sizes 5-13, on sale: $19.99) @Payless.

SHOP NOW: A Versatile Ruffle Blouse for Work & Play!

I’m guilty of being that “buy one in every color” shopper, as per my previous goddess dress post, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing because it makes picking out my day-to-day wardrobe seamless between family gatherings, prepping for class, heading into the office, or meeting up with friends. My latest obsession is ruffle button-front blouse from New York & Company, ranging in sizes XS-XXL. It’s currently on sale, ranging in price between $18.00-$26.97, depending on which coupon code you use & what your form of payment is; however, I like a top that I can wear with different bottoms, but also for different occasions.

The blouse is available in 3 solid hues: black, hazelnut latte, & pink garland, but my eye is on the flame orange leopard & multi color snake prints, which will pair well with any of the following items:

SHOP: 1. high-waisted linen-blend shorts in cerignola @Old Navy (available in sizes XS-4XL, sale: $18.00), 2. woven-textured crisscross sandals in natural stripe @Old Navy (available in sizes 6-11, sale: $16.00), 3. braided ankle strap sandals in natural @Walmart (available in sizes 6-11, $10.00), 4. Time and Tru tencel shorts in rinse wash @Walmart (available in sizes XS-3XL, $12.98), 5. A New Day smocked waist mid-rise a-line skirt in burgundy @Target (available in sizes XS-XXL, on sale: $23.79), 6. ruched-vamp pointy mules in black @Ardene (available in sizes 6-10, on sale: $11.94), 7. Ziva heel in crocodile embossed yellow @New York & Company (available in sizes 6-11, on sale: $44.97), 8. snake-print tie-waist pencil skirt in multi color @New York & Company (available in sizes XS-XXL, on sale: $41.97), 9. high-waisted cropped linen-blend pants in arugula @Old Navy (available in sizes XS-4XL, $39.99), 10. No Boundaries platform flip flops in gold @Walmart (available in sizes 6-11, on sale: $11.00), 11. Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara Rosa curvy super high-rise skinny ankle jeans in rinse @Walmart (available in size 14, $24.50), 12. Ansley block-heel sandal in red @New York & Company (available in sizes 6-10, on sale: $17.98), 13. Nanette Nanette Lepore angel zipper stretch work pants in black @TJ Maxx (available in sizes XS-XL, $19.99), & 14. Madison colorblock pump in pink @New York & Company (available in sizes 6-11, on sale: $35.00).

07/09/2022 Darling of the Day: Stranger Things Star Sadie Sink Appears on TODAY in a Floral Miu Miu Dress!

Now that volume two of Stranger Things‘ fourth season has finally hit Netflix, the show’s stars are talking up that major cliffhanger ending in preparation for a final fifth season. This week, Max Mayfield herself, portrayed by the always luminous Sadie Sink, hit the press circuit with an appearance on Today, wearing all Miu Miu in a floral prairie dress & kitten heel loafer slingbacks. The 20-year-old actress discussed not only “Running Up That Hill” by Kate Bush as Max’s escape song, which, by the way, is still charting strong, but also Netflix’s binge-worthy success with Stranger Things, her supportive family, and starring in Taylor Swift‘s short film for her song “All Too Well.”

The dress includes many classic summer dress elements, including the delicate floral print, button down closure, & puffed sleeves, adding maturity & retro style to the ensemble that is paired with an unexpected, though on-brand, menswear-inspired footwear choice. See below:

SHOP: long printed crepe de chine dress in pomegranate yellow / red ($3,900) & leather loafers with heel in white ($1,700) @Miu Miu.

However, if shopping the luxury price tag of Miu Miu isn’t in your budget realm (it’s not in mine, that’s for sure), I selected some look-alike summer dresses to recreate Sadie’s anytime look, which is perfect for work with a cardigan & pumps or weekend with flat sandals & a crossbody bag.

SHOP: 1. BebreezChic floral puff sleeve chiffon dress in yellow flowers (available in sizes XS-XL, $39.99 + $6 off coupon code on site) @Amazon, 2. SheIn allover print ruffle a-line maxi dress in multi color (available in sizes XS-L, $33.99) @Amazon, & 3. Agnes Orinda casual ditsy floral midi shirt dress in white (available in sizes 1X-4X, on sale: $34.99) @Target.

SHOP: 1. metallic chain decor slingback mules in white (available in sizes 6-10.5, $38.00) @Shein, 2. faux weave mule flats in white (available in sizes 6-10, on sale: $10.00) @Ardene, & 3. Nina loafer in white (available in sizes 6-10, on sale: $25.00) @New York & Company.

Do you like Sadie’s Miu Miu look for TODAY? Would you mix a floral dress with loafer heels? Have you been binging Stranger Things? Who is your favorite character from the show? Show Me the Shoes: Summer’s Perfect Laser Cut Ballet Flats!

If you’re the type of shopper to buy one of each (insert stylish vice here–mine are many!) in every color, then Ardene‘s Laser Cut Pattern Ballet Flats (sale: $10.43), where available in sizes 6-10, are the shoe for you! I recently bought the purple, yellow, & brown since I already have very similar black & white laser cut flats from previous years; however, this is a class summer style that will never go out of fashion.

I love the possibility of wearing any of these for any weekend family event, with a maxi dress & rose gold sunglasses, paired with tropic shorts & a bold tee, as well as for a concert or day of running errands. I love that I can feel my feet breathing, so to speak, & the fact that these shoes include a subtle cushion for my arch, offering support as I’m on the go, which isn’t always present in fast fashion flats.

Since this style is currently on sale for such a bargain-can’t-miss price, I might just go ahead & grade an extra pair of black & white flats to store for future seasons. However, my only wish is that these were also available in other pastel & neon hues, like a pistachio, powder blue, hot pink, or aqua. Perhaps, that would only fuel more of my penchant for variety.

How would you style these flats? Which colors are your favorites? What features do you look for in ballet flats? Do you prefer a laser cut pattern or a different style toe? 06/13/2022 Darling of the Day: Blake Lively’s #LWD Inspo for Summer!

When it comes to summer style, I’m always all about a breezy, comfy fit & pops of color, but a little white dress (#LWD) is always a staple to break out for a fresh day in the sun, gathering with family & friends, or a chic date night out. Case in point, actress & style icon Blake Lively attended this weekend’s Tribeca Film Festival in support of her superstar pal Taylor Swift‘s “All Too Well” short film, which apparently should not be confused with a music video. However, Blake’s classic white dress caught my eye to feature because the actress has elevated the look for evening with her always stylish eye for accessorizing, along with her charming husband, Ryan Reynolds at her side.

The featured neutrals, along with the light cotton frock offer a juxtaposition of hard & soft, as well as glitzy & effortless. Furthermore, the Christian Louboutin t-strap heels and Gucci purse are likely too costly for the average Style Darling, which is why I wanted to feature affordable & fashionable alternatives, if Blake’s look has you inspired. Here are a few white dresses, available in a variety of sizes XS-4X (while supplies last) to get you ready for your next summer night out in style, ranging in prices $24.99-$74.00:

SHOP: 1. Smocked Top Puff-Sleeve Dress @New York & Company, 2. Fit & Flare Sleeveless Cotton-Poplin Smocked-Bodice Midi Dress for Women @Old Navy, 3. Hear My Heartbeat White Sleeveless Tie-Back Tiered Maxi Dress @Lulu’s, 4. Sofia Jeans by Sofia Vergara Women’s Midi Empire Dress with Ruffle Seam @Walmart, 5. Who What Wear Women’s Elbow Sleeve One Shoulder Knit Dress @Target, & 6. BTFBM Women Summer Bohemian Floral Casual Wrap V Neck Ruffle Cap Sleeveless Belt A-Line Pleated Hem Swing Midi Sun Dress @Amazon.

Additionally, some suggested accessories to coordinate with any of these white dresses (or one that you still haven’t dug out from the back of your closet) include:

SHOP: 1. Lassy Pump by Mix No. 6 @DSW, 2. Liraven Pump by Mix No. 6 @DSW, 3. Liah Braided Slide Dress Sandals by I. N. C. @Macy’s, 4. Basketwoven Crossbody Bag @Forever 21, 5. 2-Daisy Earrings @Ardene, 6. Fiona Wrapped Flat Hoops @francesca’s, 7. LC Lauren Conrad Rose Gold Tone Flower Circle Necklace @Kohl’s, & 8. LC Lauren Conrad Hook Bangle Bracelet @Kohl’s.
