Ever since the 2012 debut of Girls, the HBO smash hit comedy, Allison Williams has been unstoppable. Followed by her breakout role in the Oscar-winning film Get Out & success with 2022’s M3GAN, Allison is an in-demand actress who proves her style time & time again. Whether she’s walking the red carpet in a lacy ballgown, shimmering column gown, fit & flare mini dress, tailored suit, or pencil dress, Allison stays true to her edgy/classy aesthetic, combined with timeless pointy toe pumps, a strong brow, & statement jewelry. Today marks the actress’s 35th birthday, so let’s celebrate with a fashionable flashback down red carpet memory lane!

If you’ve seen Style Darling‘s Instagram (@MissAlissaL), then you know that I can’t wait for the fourth season premiere of HBO’sGirls. It’s one of those shows that I love because I can relate to it when it comes to friendships & relationships, I laugh my butt off at the wit & ridiculousness of the show’s clueless & brilliant characters, & because it almost always makes me feel a little bit more together as a young woman trying to make it in the world. Also, the show is a terrific example of real-life style from its four main characters: Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham), Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams), Jessa Jenkins (Jemima Kirke), & Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet). Clearly, each character isn’t trotting the streets of New York in impossibly expensive designer duds, which is something else that I can appreciate about the exciting dramedy!
Hannah isn’t without style, but her interpretation combines basics with her quirky sense of self. She’s not afraid of color & pattern, & always wears what she likes above what trends may be most popular. She can be seen in cutesy Peter Pan collared shirts, floral print rompers, teeny sweaters & bright pants, & shoes that she almost always can’t walk in. But we love Hannah because she tries her best to be inspired by the 50s classic cuts & whimsical patterns.
Marnie is certainly the sophisticated shopper among the characters, wearing tailored looks that blend femininity & maturity. She tries to exude through her style the life she wants to live, often in sleek dresses, preppy separates, unstructured pieces, & core accessories that interfere with her goals. She invests in pieces that can be worn a variety of ways, but are still timeless as she seeks to attain a lifestyle equally as fancy as her tastes.
Jessa is a bohemian of the quartet, mixing prints & billowing volume to express her carefree spirit. She’s always feminine, but on the verge of hippie chic with peasant tops, maxi dresses, long sweaters, crop tops, & loose-fitting pants. I love watching Jessa for her accessories, which almost always include some sort of feather detail, gemstone, layers of metals, or harder gothic inspiration against the softness of her preferred fabrics.
Shoshanna is the youngest of the girls with a lot to learn about self-editing. She is as accessorized as she is articulate, with plenty of hair styles to match with her girlie, on-trend style. She can be found in form-fitting mini dresses, always looking all sorts of cute because she’s always running into crushes, exes, old friends, & making new friends wherever she goes. Her clothes are party-ready & she’s fearless when it comes to taking fashion risks. No skirt is too short, no heels are too high, & no print is too wacky for her to play with, especially when combined with color-coordinated extras like a statement necklace or stacked bangles.

I was recently asked if Style Darling shared anything about men’s fashion & I knew I was guilty of not giving male style enough attention… & isn’t it convenient that I just so happen to come across a story that features just that!
This weekend, the whopping 902-page epic September 2013 issue of Voguearrived in my mailbox & I’m waiting to devote the proper amount of time to its fashionable glory. However, aside from the drop dead gorgeous it-girl Jennifer Lawrence (& recent Oscar winner) on the magazine’s cover, I’m crazy about Girlsactor Adam Driver who dazzles on the countryside with model Daria Werbowy in a romantic William Butler Yeats & Maud Gonne-inspired photo shoot through the lens of the legendary Annie Leibowitz.
Of course, when it comes to fashion shoots, sometimes the set and/or props make the editorial something a little more special, elevating the grandeur of being included in a Vogue shoot. The selected pieces for the sophisticated & classic shoot not only bends the brain into a fall-ready state of being, but also puts the Emmy-nominated actor of the hit HBO series on par with other fashionable celebrities like Eddie Redmayne, James Franco, Ezra Miller, & even Brad Pitt. Although, I’m sure none of them held a sheep around their shoulders wearing nothing but jeans & hanging suspenders.
If I wasn’t already enamored with Adam’s same-name character (although in the show, he’s Sackler & not Driver), I’m wondering what his fictional persona would say about the beautifully classic & modern take on fall fashion. The fairer half of the stylish duo includes Daria in Michael Kors, Dries Van Noten, Prada, Alberta Ferretti, Ralph Lauren Collection, Jil Sadler, & Céline.
I’m a huge fan of HBO‘s Girls& watched the entire first season about 3 or 4 times over. We’re already halfway through the sophomore season, which stars Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet, & Jemima Kirke. I can’t believe I just came across the HBO YouTube videos which feature an inside look at each of this season’s episodes, where show creator, writer, star, & director, the all-mighty & powerfully charming & brilliant Golden Globe-winner Lena talks about her inspiration behind the episodes.
Also, costume designer, Jennifer Rogien has shared her ideas about coming up with the individual styles of each character: Hannah, Marnie, Shoshanna, & Jessa. “We joke amongst ourselves that Marnie probably lives at Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdale’s, while Shoshanna is a mix between Saks & H&M & Zara. We love that Shoshanna wears Shoshanna,” Rogien has shared with The Daily Beast, adding, “Jessa is clearly a world traveler so she collects things … Hannah, being so vintage-driven, none of that is shot for editorial, so it was Etsy girls, & style blogs, and [I] pulled some stuff from Madewell & Anthropologie.”

The holidays are in full swing now & I can’t think of a better way to start celebrating the festivities than to share the latest celebrity images for Top 10 Celeb Sightings. There are some really amazing movies coming out, including Les Miserables, Hitchcock, & Rust & Bone, as well as some upcoming television premieres like Girls, which means that there’s lots to keep an eye out for on Style Darling. Some of my favorites include Scarlett Johansson during an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman in Giambattista Valli, Miranda Kerr‘s high-slit gown, Allison Williams in a stunning silver Naeem Khan gown, & Katy Perry‘s prettiest Dolce & Gabbana look.
