The Stylish Five: Budget-Friendly Skirts For Fall ($30.00 & Under), Inspired by Chrissy Teigen, Michelle Dockery, & More!

As much as I’m a fan of dresses, especially this summer since I’ve worn a dress most days of this season, I’m always pro-skirt, especially when it comes to transitioning from one look to another for a variety of occasions. This fall, I’m headed all over the place: the classroom, my academic job, my retail job, an internship in NYC, & wherever my personal life takes me. I turned to some of the most stylish celebrities for a little skirt inspiration, both on the red carpet & when they’re showing off their street style. This includes Miranda Kerr‘s emerald green & violet matching separates(shop here) by Escada at the Escada Joyful event last month, supermodel Chrissy Teigen in a printed crop top & pencil skirt (shop here) by Milly with nude ankle strap sandals, & Lily Collins in a head-to-toe mix print look by Chanel while attending the label’s latest fall/winter runway show. Miranda Kerr, Chrissy Teigen, & Lily Collins.

Jamie Chung, Michelle Dockery, & Hilary Swank.

Also, there’s Style Darling Jamie Chung out & about in Los Angeles this summer in a black pleated midi-length skirt with a chambray top & accessories (shop here & here) by Loeffler Randall, Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery showing off her playful side in a look by Victoria Beckham with rings by Melinda Maria & EF Collection while attending the show’s photocall this summer, & two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank at the Marc Cain spring/summer 2015 show in a blouse & polka dot skirt by the designer with black patent pumps.

While I was flipping through the first wave of September issues of my favorite magazines, I came across a few ads that caught my eye & was suddenly inspired by skirts for fall. Here are a few of my top picks that are sure to work with your current wardrobe staples, as well as make a new statement about your fall style. Below, said skirt that inspired this post was the Worthington long pencil skirt ($19.99) in blue geo print from JC Penney, which I could imagine worn with a crisp white button down, a black t-shirt, or a cobalt pintucked blouse. To bring out your softer side, I choose the brushstroke print A-line skirt ($22.80) in black & cream from Forever 21 because it just screams Charlotte York to me!

Skirts from JC Penney, Forever 21, H&M, Target, & Dress Barn.

If you’re really looking to mix things up, try this metallic skirt ($29.95) in silver from H&M, which is a great investment for any time of year, paired with a pastel blouse (like that shown in the image above) or an embellished sweater for the holidays. The assymetrical zip skirt ($24.99) in black from Target is a modern twist on the classic, all-purpose pencil skirt, especially if you’re headed to an interview at a trendy office, or looking to dress up your favorite rocker tee. I’m also a big fan of this because it’s available in gray & sizes X-Small to XX-Large. Lastly, to work the menswear trend this fall, I picked the plaid pencil skirt ($30.00) from Dress Barn, which has hints of so many different colors that you can pop it with a regal purple top or make it work-ready with a navy cardigan. Also, this skirt is sold online & in-stores in plus sizes.

The Stylish Five: Loving A Little Leopard, Inspired by Heidi Klum, Miranda Kerr, & More!

When it comes to animal prints, my go-to is zebra, which goes back to my natural love all black & white patterns. However, as we’re in the thick of summer, stores are filling up with fall fashions, including luxe leopard pieces to mix up with neutral separates & pops of color in your accessories.

Olivia Palermo, Miranda Kerr, & Heidi Klum

Trendsetter Olivia Palermo styled her separates by Tibi with a pop of leopard in her skinny belt, which offset the geometric look of her ankle strap sandals. Model Miranda Kerr was flawless this spring when hitting the street for a stylish day out with a bold leopard A.L.C. duffel bag to add a trendy splash of personality to her button down shirt, denim skirt, & thigh high boots. Project Runway host Heidi Klum shows off her wild side (& her legs!) in a high slit skirt & embellished too.

For affordable leopard love in your wardrobe, I found these functional & fashionable pieces that are sure to make a splash when corrdinated a variety of ways. First, the leopard tote ($2.50) from Forever 21 is great for all of your on-the-go needs, especially when wanting to use a durable recyclable bag when hitting the market. Also, you can dress up or dress down the tiered leopard tank ($34.00) from Dress Barn (which I own & love!) with dark denim skinnies & a blazer for a girls’ night out, or cardigan & pencil skirt for the office. For a truly wild look, pair these loose fit pants ($17.95) from H&M with a black tank & gold flats for day, or mix up your look with a crop top & pointy heels for evening.

I love shopping for printed belts, which can work well with a wrap dress, shirtdress, over a cardigan, or when you wanna cinch in a tunic top to show off your waist, like the leopard skinny belt ($24.90) from Express. One of my most recent purchases come from Charlotte Russe, & that is the patent thong sandal ($7.50), which was such a great buy too since there’s currently a BOGO $5 sale of select shoes. So, I also indulged in a white pair to wear with sporty jersey dresses & when heading out to the beach this summer.

For one last look at some leopard inspirations, I put together some of my favorite images, high end & affordable items, & celebrity moments that include leopard. This includes a September 2010 Vogue UK shoot fetauring supermodel Kate Moss in an embellished leopard jacket. Scarlett Johansson added a pop of leopard in her Christian Louboutin pointy toe pumps with a Vivienne Westwood dress. Also, to celebrate leopard on your nails, there’s the Sally Hansen strips ($9.99) in leopard, available @Ulta. Also, you can keep warm on those cool summer knits with this Apt. 9 leopard scarf ($11.99) from Kohl’s. For some designer inspiration, the paneled leopard dress ($1,150.00) by Escada is sold @Neiman Marcus. Lastly, the leopard heart drop earrings ($16.00) from River Island are playful & flirty to dress down a classic LBD.

The $100 Challenge: Summer Vacation Must-Haves For The Budget Shopper!

Let’s get right to it! I’m going away this week to The Hamptons for yet another exciting & stylish two weeks, while attending a school-related Writer’s Conference. This is one of my favorite & most fashionable times of year, where I can prepare my wardrobe & budget to reinvent new looks for the hip south shore niche. Speaking of a budget, I’ve been very price tag conscious & in doing that, I recommend the following for a memorable vacation. Also, I love the diversity of these pieces & how they can be worn in so many different ways!

Dress @Dress Barn, $46.00

The abstract shirtdress ($46.00) from Dress Barn is perfect for playing up your preppy side, while still celebrating the bright & neon sides of summer. Pair this dress with metallic sandals & a messenger bag for day, or glam it up in the evening with peep toe pumps & stacked bangles.

Leopard flip flop @Payless, $9.99

To keep your summer style fresh & timeless at the same time, classic patterns are the best way to go. With that, the sunset disc flat flip flop ($9.99) in leopard from Payless is a flirty way to amp up your separates, mixing prints like animal inspiration with polka dots or seersucker. Also, leopard looks great with bright hues like a pair of red lace shorts, an orange sheath dress, or black ruffled romper.

Blouse @H&M, $9.95

To build up wardrobe that you can transform from season to season, try something playful like an unexpected topper like this sleeveless blouse ($9.95) from H&M. At first glance, the print looks like flower petals, but upon closer examination, the soft blue is actually eyelashes. As seen on the model above, try this top with faux leather skinnies, but if you’re looking for something more low maintenance, add a contrasting color like yellow bermuda shorts & espadrilles for a lunch date or with a white pencil skirt & cardigan for a more professional look.

Earrings @Icing, $8.50Accessories are an important part of building any look, especially when it comes to jewelry. I was once a silver-only gal, but as I’ve grown up, I see the value in expanding with different metals. Here the drop earrings ($8.50) from Icing recall a deco feel that can work as a statement piece with an LBD & strappy sandals, a maxi dress & modern cuff bracelet, & a knotted button down shirt & denim shorts. Not to mention that now is a great time to invest in timeless jewelry since the store’s entire website is BOGO 50% off!

Tote @TJMaxx, $19.99Naturally, a tote bag is any Style Darling’s must-have when going out & about for the summer. This Yoki perforated tote ($19.99) from TJMaxx is right on trend with laser cut details on luxe materials. It’s the perfect size to fill with your cell phone, a pair of sunglasses, & whatever best seller you’re taking with you to the beach. To dress up the bag even more, braid or tie a bold scarf onto the handle to add a pop of color.

If you’re shopping on a budget, like me, don’t fret over spending too much. These five fabulous finds total for under $100, to be specific: $94.43 before tax! What summer essentials are on your wish list or crowding your closet? Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Major Deals On Maxi Dresses ($25 & Under)!

While preparing for my long-awaited summer vacation, I’ve been scoping out dresses since they’re just so easy to wear & coordinate with all of my favorite summer shoes. However, I know that maxi dresses are a big part of summer fashion & I wasn’t always a big fan of them on me- worried about the length since I’m on the shorter side & concerned with extra volume where I certainly don’t need it.

The shopping fairies have been on my side lately since I recently picked up 2 stylish maxi dresses, which inspired me to surf for some more suggestions online.  This includes the Speechless animal maxi dress ($23.99) from Kohl’s, which brings out the wild side of any Style Darling, especially when paired with metallic gladiator sandals or patent leather platforms. Next, the tie-back knit maxi dress ($24.99) from Charlotte Russe is perfect for paying homage to a Grecian-inspired look, as well as showing off your taste in accessories with a studded belt, stacked bangles, or glittery dangling earrings. I love the simplicity behind the Mossimo Supply Co. drawstring waist maxi dress ($24.99) from Target, as well as the summer-friendly hue, which will match with any nautical-inspired pieces like a canvas tote or boat shoes.

For my plus-size readers, I was so excited to find the garden goddess floral maxi dress ($24.80) from Forever 21, which makes a colorful & stylish statement with nude sandals & a patent clutch for a date night by the water. Lastly, I’m always a fan of classic black & white prints, especially the Love, Fire chevron stripe printed side slit tube dress ($19.99) @Loehmann’s, which will stand out in the crowd when coordinated with cork wedges, a beaded necklace, or studded envelope clutch.

The Stylish Five: Spring-Ready Shirt Dresses ($50 & Under)!

I’ve been focusing a lot lately on dresses b/c I think that spring is the best time of year to invest in new dresses. I’ve definitely already started my 2013 collection, which I will definitely wear well into the summer, however, one style of dress that I always turn to is the shirt dress. There are so many shirt dresses out there in stores & online right now, which are perfect for wearing to a brunch with girl friends, a family party on the weekend, or to the office for a feminine change of pace.

The first I found is the Merona sateen belted shirt dress ($22.00) in purple from Target, which is also available in five other bright & neutral hues, & in sizes XS – XXL. This is the perfect dress for matching with a pair of espadrilles, ballet flats, or gladiator flats. Next is the chambray belted shirt dress ($24.50) from Old Navy, which can be made rugged with suede ankle boots or dressed up with cork patent heels, for a Style Darling of any size (XS – XXL).  Forever 21‘s belted high-low shirtdress ($27.80) in turquoise is a soft & lightweight way to add layers to your look, or even mix things up with leggings & knee boots, or a matching suede hat & belt.

To stay on trend with bold neons for spring, I picked the roll-sleeve pocket shirtdress ($34.99) in active yellow from Gap, which is also sold in blue, orange, & pink, in sizes XS-XXL. I recommend pairing it with pointy toe pumps & a printed blazer when headed to a meeting, or with floral flats & a basketweave clutch for a sunny picnic. Lastly, the belted denim shirtdress ($46.00) in orange from Dress Barn is also sold in plus sizes ($50.00) to wear with peep toe wedges & a chainlink bag.

What dresses are you shopping for this spring? What stores do you like to hit up when searching for that perfect dress? Do you like to wear shirt dresses? For more affordable fashion posts, check out nautical inspiration for under $100, Derek Lam’s DesigNation collection for Kohl’s, spring-friendly polka-dotted pieces, peplum tanks inspired by Olivia Palermo & Zoe Saldana, & floral must-have pieces like Selena Gomez & Jessica Chastain! The Stylish Five: Spring-Ready Striped Dresses ($35 & Under)!

It’s Easter Sunday & I wanted to share with readers some affordable spring-ready dresses that are perfect for more than just today’s holiday & any body type! I’m recently starting a new position at my job, as well as an entering into an exciting opportunity for a second job this week, so of course I’m thinking about what I’ll be wearing. Fortunately both environments require a blend of professionalism & creativity, so I’m gearing up to dust off favorites from last spring & invest in some show-stopping looks to last me through the spring & summer.

All of these looks are under $35 & I’m really drawn to stripes since there’s so much opportunity to mix with accessories like floral tights on a chillier day, textured pumps, or an embellished cardigan. First, I wanted to share the boat-neck 3/4 sleeve shift dress ($22.97) in black stripe from Old Navy, which will pair well with bold pieces like red heels, a yellow lacquered belt, turquoise tights, or a green leather jacket. Also, I’ve been keeping an eye on the latest styles @JCP, including the a.n.a. short-sleeved cowlneck dress ($22.00), which can be dressed up with a boyfriend blazer & pointy toe pumps, or worn casually with a denim jacket & ballet flats.

For a thicker stripe, I love the rich tones in the striped chiffon sleeveless dress ($32.47) in summer berry punch from New York & Company, which is also available in a blue / green combination. This is an office-friendly dress that can translate well to happy hour, especially when mixing up the look with stacked bangles, a cropped jacket, or knee boots. Also, as a big fan of Target, I knew I had to feature the Mossimo half back zipper fit & flare dress ($27.99) in teal stripe. This youthful dress is perfect for accentuating any figure & is available in sizes XS – XXL. Lastly, another look for my curvy Style Darlings is the colorblocked chiffon dress ($27.80) from Forever 21, which gives off a vintage feel with the playful collar & delicate bow.

The Stylish Five: Don’t Sweat The Cold Weather With These Cardigan Sweaters ($20 & Under)!

With all the budget shopping I’ve been doing lately, I am continually drawn to cardigans (although I am in search of the perfect motorcycle jacket), especially since I’m getting ready to head back to work this spring semester. For under $20, you can add these stylish toppers to you look, if you’re headed out on a date, to brunch with the girls, or trying to spruce up your work wardrobe.

@Forever 21, my plus size Style Darlings can add some fierce style to their look with the leopard print cardigan ($19.50) in cream/black, available in sizes XL – 3X & sold in purple/magenta. Next, for a more sophisticated & feminine ensemble the Worthington open front cardigan sweater ($20.00) in gray/yellow from JCP is the perfect addition to a spring wardrobe.

The Stylish Five

Instead of wearing the same old boring black sweater, I recommend LOFT‘s tie neck 3/4-sleeve cardigan ($19.88) to wear over a blouse, camisole, or pullover top. One sweater that made it into my closet was the Merona 3/4 sleeve sweater cardigan ($14.98) from Target, which I purchased in stores for under $9.00. Lastly, for a classic cardigan to wear with pearls, over an LBD, or with your favorite pencil skirt, H&M‘s cardigan sweater ($14.95) in yellow, which is also sold in eight other hues to coordinate with printed basics.

What pieces are you unable to resist when bargain shopping? Which stores are you hitting up for great end-of-the-season buys? The Stylish Five: Work A Holiday Skirt Into Your Wardrobe ($30 & Under)!

I’ve been turning to heavier textures for my work & can’t wait to start putting looks together for upcoming holiday gatherings too! For me, if I’m not wearing a dress, then you can be sure that I’ve got a holiday-friendly skirt in mind. I love all different fabrics & accents, which is why I wanted to share my five picks to wear without breaking the bank.

I love a good tweed & houndstooth is one of my favorite patterns & @Dress Barn the houndstooth ponte skirt ($29.50) is a great buy for that transition from day to night by changing up suede ballet flats to studded ankle booties. For an edgier look, you can find the faux leather skirt ($24.95) @H&M, which will coordinate well with lush silk blouses, embellished tanks, & preppy knits for some contrast.

For a more feminine look, break out a softer hue with the solid trimmed jacquard skirt ($22.80) from Forever 21 & try it with this season’s top color, oxblood, with a leather jacket & some textured tights.  For the real party girl, though this isn’t an office appropriate skirt, I love the i jeans by Buffalo feather skirt ($25.00), which JC Penney has just marked down from its original $100.00 price tag.  With such a statement skirt like this, keep your other pieces a little more basic, but work a collar necklace or some stacked bangles in for extra sparkle.  Lastly, Target is one of my favorite stores to shop & the Merona sweater skirt ($26.99) adds a splash of animal print to any lace peplum or sequin top.  The cozy material is sure to be comfortable, while still showing off your flair for fashion.

What’s your holiday style? Do you have a go-to look for that upcoming office party? Do you prefer skirts over dress pants? Check out more affordable style tips including the best vests of the season, a great date look for under $100, & the prettiest ways to dress up your nails! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Invest In The Best Vests This Season (Under $25)!

It’s definitely time to bundle up with the layers & unless you’re headed on a tropical vacation, take it from me, this season is all about adding that one last finishing touch. In this case, I’m talking about vests. I was a little reluctant to integrate them into my wardrobe, but if you’re seeking a rocker look, something bohemian, or a vintage feel, vests can help achieve this & make some older wardrobe staples refreshed & reinvented.

Keeping a budget in mind, I’ve selected five vests all under $25! First, the cap-sleeve leopard denim vest ($14.49) from Charlotte Russe is a recent markdown that’s perfect for making any graphic tee more stylish with boyfriend jeans & pointed toe neon pumps. A vest for work is always chic, especially over a solid blouse or classic button-down & I recommend the FANG openwork sweater vest ($21.99) in slate from Kohl’s which includes a belt & is also sold in other neutral hues like oat, & black.

To offset any chic all-black look, head over to Forever 21 for the metallic coated denim vest ($24.80) which will take you from a luncheon with family to drinks with the girls at a bar. If you want to try on the military-inspired trend by taking a baby step, Old Navy‘s twill cargo vest ($24.97) is perfect for adding a utilitarian feel with stripes, or even to dress down a pencil skirt.  Also, this is available in sizes XS – XXL! Lastly, I found the wearever cascade vest ($24.99) from J.Jill, which is a lighter & more feminine way to show off layers over a polka dot blouse & a lace mini skirt.

Do you like to wear vests? How do you style them? What’s your favorite part about layering? For more posts on budget-friendly styles, check out affordable sweaters inspired by Rose Byrne & Jessica Alba, a work-to-evening look for under $100, & beautiful studs from Piperlime! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Last Day Of Summer Sale Items ($15.00 & Under)!

Today is officially the last day of summer & tomorrow starts the fall. I’ve probably never been so sad to see the summer end (even though I’m crazy for suede & booties right now). It was an especially lovely season, partly b/c I was a free bird all over Long Island & had a great time with my boyfriend & friends.  Of course, now that my birthday is over & I’m back to school (working for one & no longer a student!), I still can’t get those last-minute summer deals out of my mind.  I didn’t have to look very hard to find these five very stylish pieces to include for a special post, all for $15.00 or under!

First, the racerback rugby stripes tank ($1.99) from Forever 21 is perfect to wear still, but for fall, you have to keep in mind that fall is all about layering.  This bright pop of color can be worn under a button-down shirt & sweater vest or cardigan.  Of course, yellow isn’t necessarily the color of the season, but it’s still fun to add against something red or cobalt!  Also, even though here on the east cost, it’s getting too chilly even during the day for shorts, but if you’re headed on vacation soon or traveling south where the summer sun is still beaming, check out the patterned shorts ($15.00) from Old Navy that are available in dark tone chambray (pictured above), as well as navy stripe & green stripe.

I love checking out what’s going on @J.Crew, which is where I found the perfect-fit tee ($14.99) in light blade & deep turquoise, however you’ll also be able to score this tee is spice for $9.99.  These colors are fun to mix up by colorblocking with a pencil skirt, trousers, or leggings & some chunky, oversized accessories or printed scarves.  For those who love daring prints, check out the floral/houndstooth printed mirror t-shirt dress ($12.00) from Windsor Store, which is a mini that calls for opaque tights & a boyfriend blazer.  I’m not saying you have to hide your shape in this flattering frock, but another way to keep it seasonal & fresh is by adding a belt & a knit cardigan.

Lastly, I’m crazy for the American Eagle sparkling flip-flop ($6.00 – $9.99) from Payless.  This pewter hue is higher in price, but they’re available in eleven other colors to help fulfill all of your flip-flop needs, especially if you’re headed for a hot tub or looking to something with some sheen for next season! What are you shopping for on this last day of summer? Do you have a favorite store where you love to shop clearance? Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: The Gap’s Go-To Affordable Sale Items ($15 & Under)!

After recently hitting up The Gap to get an incredible deal on my new favorite striped dress, I’ve been checking back regularly with their website sale items, happy to find more stylish items to add to my Labor Day countdown series of The Stylish Five.  While some of these pieces are on the minimalist side, they each serve a multi-function purpose for a variety of other pieces in your wardrobe.  For example, the canvas shorts ($12.99) in khaki are a chic & casual way to dress down embellished items like a jeweled tank or beaded blouse.  Even pair this with some sequins & a denim jacket & you’re ready for an elegant day date with your beau.

Next, the luxe jersey piped tank ($14.99) in gem stone in perfect for feeling light & breezy during these last few weeks of summer, but also this can be worn with leggings, boots, & a cardigan.  Add a splash of print with a fringe scarf & you’ll be ahead of the game with a fall-friendly layered look! Also, I’m quite obsessed with belts, which is why I picked the striped woven nylon belt ($9.99) in pink.  Aside from the fact that the price is perfect for any budget, you can swap out a fabric belt on a shirtdress & add this for a flirtier look.  Of course, it’s also great to achieve that modern preppy look when wearing an argyle cardigan & skinny jeans.

In the summer, I can’t get enough of cotton since it’s so comfortable & lets my body breathe on the hotter days.  I love the smocked blouson top ($12.99) in white for its romantic & feminine details that are fun are wear with colored jeans, printed cropped pants, or a dark denim mini & your favorite wedges.  Speaking of skirts… the cargo mini skirt ($14.99) in coral is a must-have b/c it’ll look polished against the most basic tanks, but also pairs well with the latest fall neutral- merlot. Keep this skirt around for your opaque tights & knee boots! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Friday The 13th Deals ($13 & Under!)

Not only can we say TGIF today, but it is Friday, the 13th! So if you’re superstitious, good luck today! In celebration of the often down-on-your-luck lauded day, I’ve added a new post to The Stylish Five, including some stylish deals on items under $13.00.  Of course, with my arsenal of go-to stores, this wasn’t very hard. The hard part was narrowing down my picks to just five pieces!

@Forever 21, this perforated knit cardigan ($12.80) in yellow is perfect for throwing over your favorite summer dress when it starts to get cooler at night.  I love the lemon yellow hue which is perfect to pair with virtually any color under the sun, including tangerine, cornflower blue, slate, & fuchsia.  Next up is a stop @Old Navy for some bangle fun with the satin-covered bracelet ($6.47). The edgy accessory is available in black, orange, yellow, & blue.  Mix them together or wear them with an assortment of other bracelets to create a textured effect.  While we have jewelry on the brain, JCP‘s everyday deals include the Color Craze pink chandelier earrings ($3.00) which will make any maxi dress look all the more exotic or can very easily dress up a shorts romper.

Nothing says classic quite like a button down, & The Limited‘s Collins shirt ($12.99) makes a bold statement in cobalt, but since this is such a great deal, why not splurge on the grey & purple options too? Wear this tucked in with a pencil skirt & pumps or loose over some cropped jeans & wedges.  Lastly, I’ve been searching high & low for the perfect pair of purple flip-flops & I should’ve have known that the Lita flip-flops ($3.99) from Wet Seal would be the answer to my prayers.  These are perfect for any & every casual event, but if you’re looking for more color variety, have no fear b/c they’re also available in yellow, turquoise, & pink!

Which of these five picks is your favorite? What special Friday the 13th deals are you scouring the internet for? Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Last-Minute Stocking Stuffers ($15 & Under)!

I managed to make my way to the local mall last night, just to assist the bestie in finding some secret Santa gifts.  I was not surprised at the amount of shoppers still remaining walking about, frantically in search to complete their gift list.  Or maybe I’m wrong & they’re all shopping for themselves?  Anyway, sometimes there’s more to life than building a quality, but affordable wardrobe, so I wanted to take a quick minute to feature some really cute stocking stuffer gifts for the last-minute Style Darling to consider.

Some of my favorite stores for accessories like Charlotte Russe & Forever 21 have affordable gift selections, which makes shopping all the more easier! If you have a friend who’s always listening to music on their iPod, or some other device with headphones, then maybe consider jazzing up their setup with a heart headphone splitter ($9.50), which is adorable adorned with pink rhinestones.  Also, to keep with the sparkly theme, I know I’m always looking for a new bobby pins & the multicolor bobby pin set ($4.50) which has 60-pins in total is just the way to go when I’m looking to tie my bangs back & coordinate it with my outfit too!

Also, for a Style Darling on a budget, I know I’m always keeping track of my coins.  I like to collect them every so often until I can’t zip my wallet closed & then deposit the loose change into my savings.  There’s another $20 or so set aside that I didn’t even know I had.  So… the sparkling piggy bank ($14.80) in pink may be just the thing for me to see how long I can go to fill it up before I make that deposit.  Perhaps, if that’s too much pink for the Style Darling in your life, there’s also one available in clear rhinestones!  This makes an especially fun gift since trying to save more money each year is among the most popular of resolutions.

As a writer, I would absolutely love the filigree pen holder ($4.80), which makes for a stylish addition to any desk.  It’s also great for storing little beauty necessities like bobby pins, cosmetic brushed, or to decorative with a votive inside.  Maybe if you use it to hold pens, it can serve your 2012 resolution of taking the time to put together hand-written notes, a dying art since Facebook, text messaging, & Skype are just a click away these days.

What better way to look forward to 2012, especially the fabulous & upcoming spring styles than with a leopard print umbrella ($6.50).  When you can’t quite make an animal print work in your outfit, here’s an easy solution to finding a way to show off your wild side.  Plus it’s super tiny & can fit in most tote bags to carry with you when inclement weather may or may not be on its way!

Where do you shop for last-minute gift items?  Is there something on here that I missed?  Would you find any of these picks useful for yourself? Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Torrid’s Five Best Clearance Deals ($15 & Under)!

In times of economic woe, we’re all looking for a bargain.  I’m always looking at the clearance racks before I go anywhere else in a store & Torrid is no exception to that! Right now, check out these five items, which run under $15 to help build some looks this season & for next year.

It’s never too early (or too late) to add special touches of style into your wardrobe, including the gold & jet stone hoop earrings ($2.99) which are perfect for any going out look.  Break out an LBD or neutral skirt suit for the black scallop lace crochet tights ($11.98) which would look great with your best suede ankle booties.  If you’re looking for something simple to go underneath a brocade blazer, the twist tee ($14.97) in purple mix is a very necessary basic.

Also, to get a head start on next spring / summer, the Sonia Rainbow snake skin sandal ($9.97) in green is a timeless accessory for a maxi dress, shorts outfit, & poolside look.  Lastly, if you’re a hat girl, check out the white tweed fedora with brown belt band ($12.98) for a flirty touch to your menswear look!  For more posts from The Stylish Five, check out items under $11.00, affordable LBDs, & jewelry from JC Penney! The Stylish Five: Killer Heels From GOjane ($20 & Under)!

I feel like it’s been a while since I focused on shoes.  Part of what I love about shoes is that they always make your outfit look good!  I’m about to do my big seasonal closet switch, where I’ll rediscover some “old sole” friends who I haven’t seen since the end of last winter. I’m most excited about doing this b/c perhaps I may be able to make room for some more new friends if I make a few bags of clothes & shoes for donations.

I recently received an email from GOjane that shared news of their latest sale- footwear marked down up to 67% off!  That’s a whole lot of savings right there!  I love this site b/c it various designs of shoes for every style.  You can get girly with bows, walk fierce with strappy sandals, make a statement in peep toes, & the list goes on!  Here I’ve picked some of my favorite for The Stylish Five, all under $20!

First we have the strappy side floral print pump ($19.95) in orange, originally priced at $26.95.  They’re flashy enough to bring out the wow factor in a pair of high waist trouser jeans & a 70s inspired knotted blouse.  The color & print may throw off some shoppers, but it’s a pair of shoes unlike anything else that you’ll see on the street.  If you’re not an orange gal, they’re also available in blue too! Next is my favorite pair of the bunch, in dark green the pleated bow front pump ($15.95).  They have a staggering 5.25″ heel, but make for the perfect finish to a black sheath dress with gold deco jewelry.  The color is so on trend for fall & the price is perfectly reduced from $27.95!

If you’re into texture & detail like me, then the ruffled velvet heel ($14.95) in sand is a must-have!  They offer just enough coverage that can be worn with tights & a pair of dressy shorts this fall.  This shoe selection is very strap-happy, especially with the cross strap leatherette platforms ($13.95) which lend a little bit of an urban feel to something soft like a tiered chiffon mini dress or skinny pants & a metallic top.  They’re marked down a whopping 37% from their original price of $22.20 & can be worn throughout the year! Lastly, I picked the espadrille strap slingback platform ($12.95) that can transform a day look into something evening-ready.  The 4.75″ heel will elongate your legline & give any sweater dress & leggings look a whole new life!

I know this season is all about boots, but you can help reboot next year’s wardrobe with a few discounted finds right now!  What do you think of these styles? What’s your best shoe deal story? Are you a peep toe gal or strappy sandal Style Darling? Check out previous posts in The Stylish Five, featuring cold weather accessories & affordable finds from H&M! The Stylish Five: New Arrivals @H&M ($25 & Under)!

Since I’m all about affordable style, H&M is one of my favorite places to shop when I’m looking for new items during the change of seasons that will last me a long time.  The Swedish retailer is nothing short of chic, especially when it comes to basics. With the exciting news of an upcoming designer collaboration with the one & only, Versace, I’ve been all over the store’s site, ready to give my entire wardrobe a makeover!

For this fall, if there are five items to check out from the new arrivals @H&M, the $25 & under picks that I’ve selected are can’t-miss finds!

To start off, the fitted leopard mini dress ($17.95) is perfect for calling on the inner wild child when wearing nude booties & a glittered clutch for a date, or pair it with leggings, slouchy boots, & a scarf & you’ll be ready for a day out & about with girlfriends! I love skirts, especially the checked button up skirt ($24.95) which is fun to wear with a cardigan & belt like pictured, or break out the textured tights, knee boots, & silk blouse for a feminine take on menswear inspiration. Also, the skirt is sold in sizes up to 16!

I’ve been on the hunt for a basic white blouse to wear with any bottom in my wardrobe & this tie-front blouse ($24.95) is just what I’m looking for, in a very vintage Marilyn Monroe kind of way.  I love that its pictured with shorts & tights, but would also look great with red jeans, a ruffled mini skirt, or liquid leggings.  This color block sweater ($24.95) first caught my eye as very mod, but  modern as well!  It’s available in two-tone purple, as well as solid aqua & solid white.  It’s a classic cut, flattering for any figure with skinny jeans or leggings & some long beads!

I also recently posted about the lovely Pippa Middleton’s red flats & then I found these red flats ($24.95) from H&M which I love LOVE love b/c of the faux croc textured.  You can also get them in black, which is office-friendly for any garments that you may have in tweed, windowpane, & houndstooth!

The Stylish Five: Sale Finds @Topshop ($10 & Under)

It’s been a little while since my last post in The Stylish Five b/c of all the hype surrounding this week’s Emmy Awards, but here I am with five fun picks for $10 or under!

I was checking out the latest sale items @Topshop, when I realized that I needed to do some perfect price point product posting (try saying that 10x fast!).  So why not get ready for next summer with classic espadrille wedges in coral for $10.00?  They’re also available in pink stripe & red polka dot, to coordinate with an eyelet or jersey babydoll dress.  I’m crazy for belts this season (took me long enough, right?) & just love this lace & eyelet belt, which suffice to say, is no longer available, but still worth acknowledging b/c it was also $10.00, marked down from $50.00.  Sad face.

When we talk about investing in next year’s summer wardrobe, finding a delicate shirred jersey sundress in yellow like this for $10.00 is exactly what I’m talking about!  I know my friend, Stacey, will flip over the blue orchid headband for $6.00, a must for any Style Darling with an affinity for hair accessories. It’s all things whimsical & feminine to add to a paisley print tunic top or graphic tee / skinny jeans combo!  If you’re not a headband gal, then try these glass bead hoop earrings for $10.00.  They’re a combination of a classic hoop & drop earring, all in one!

If you’re a bargain hunter like me, be sure to check out my previous posts in The $100 Challenge to see how you can put together an entire look for $100! What’ your favorite Topshop purchase?  How much would you spend on end-of-the-season finds to prepare for next year? Would you wear any of these five picks?  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Fall Accessories For Every Style Darling ($10 & Under)!

Sometimes it just takes a few extra accessories to totally change the way an outfit looks, especially when you’re transitioning from summer to fall.

I love featuring accessories among The Stylish Five b/c it’s just so easy to find affordable items, especially @Forever 21, my first-stop for accessories (both on the blog & in my own shopping).  Now these aren’t necessarily fall-centered items, but they’re out now & that means that you can add them to your wardrobe as we prepare for the layers of knits & booties.

The 3-D rose wallet is multi-functional since it doubles as an evening wristlet.  If you don’t wanna worry about losing a fancier item for a night of karaoke with friends at a bar, this $9.50 buy is exactly what you need & it matches everything!  Not only that, but it also works for day if you’re running around town.  The scarf is darling, especially since it comes in five different colors.  For $5.50, you could invest in all of them as early holiday gifts to your favorite girlfriends.  Find coordinating colors to their personalities & it’ll be extra special!  Since I’m ready for my end-of-the-summer haircut, I’ve been pulling my bangs back with bobby pins & the lace chiffon pin is a super steal for $1.50!  I actually do own this one in black & gray from a few years ago & love adding it to an updo when I’m not having a great hair day.

Let’s face it, there are days when wearing heels & getting all dolled up is just not in the cards, so beak out a cute pair of cotton tennis shoes! At a steal of a price for only $5.50, they come in six different colors, including magenta, black, white, blue, & gray!  If you pair them with dark denim straight leg jeans, a plaid button-down, & string of pearls, the look is instantly chic, but still casual & feminine!  AND, these make me think of that line in Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love:” Tennis shoes, don’t even need to buy a new dress

Lastly, my favorite item is the “Tour of Paris” tote, made from recycled materials & perfect to throw over your shower, holding your Kindle, iPad, & any extra necessities.  And did I mention that it’s only $1.50? Again, if you buy a bunch of these & the scarves, you’re halfway set to giving a fun variety gift!

What are your favorite bargain items this season? How much are you willing to spend on accessories like scarves & tote bags?  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Summer Handbags Sale ($20 & Under)!

Some of my readers are more bag fanatics than into shoes (why? I’,ll never know lol), so here I’ve decided to choose some of the cutest handbag / clutch finds that are either on sale on for the end of the summer season.  Not to mention that all these styles are under $20!  You can’t beat that!

First, when you’re running errands, or doing some shopping, hang on to a tote bag, like the Poppie Jones Sketchy Tote, marked down @DSW from $38.00 to $19.94!  This is perfect for casual days to hold a go-to magazine for a subway ride, your favorite book, or even a back-up sweater if headed to a chilly restaurant for a luncheon with the girls.  While you’re shopping around the sale section of DSW, check out the Nine West Billiards Crossbody Bag, also on sale & reduced from $39.00 to $19.95.  The fun animal-inspired flair to the bag is sexy enough to wear for a night out, but also great to carry around during the day with a pair of skinny jeans & a basic tee with flats.

If you’re looking for something floral to carry around from day-today, take a look on over @Target to the Global Girlfriend Ugandan Waxcloth Crossbody Sling Bag in tan.  The pattern is neutral, yet feminine- perfect to match with a cargo skirt & tank or with a casual summer dress while headed out to the library.  It’s also on sale for $9.94, marked down from earlier in the season at $26.99.  For fancier nights out, grab this Glittery Mesh Clutch in gold from Forever 21, for $17.80.  It’s the ultimate choice in a metallic accessory to pair with an LBD or a patterned ruffle mini dress.  Last, but not least, add some texture to your summer look with a Straw Rosette Tote.  It’s available in black or brown @Old Navy for under $13.00 & shows off just enough summer fun that you can probably pack a moderate surprise picnic for two inside!

Since now is the time for all of the end-of-the-season markdowns, be sure to check out more of my posts for The Stylish Five, featuring hair accessories, deals on beauty items, & dresses!  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Best Beauty Deals @Ulta ($10 & Under)!

During a recent bargain beauty excursion @Ulta, I was coupon queen & discovered a bunch of deals on some of my new favorite items!  What’s so great about Ulta is that you can find great brand name cosmetics & beauty products for $10 & Under, & in most cases $5 & under too! Don’t forget to sign up @Ulta.com for regular notifications on sales & $3.50 off $10 purchase coupons for in-store use.

I picked different items to showcase, including this shimmering eyeshadow by Essence in Disco Diva, for only $1.99!  If applied lightly, it’s flirty for day, or even something under the lower lash line is cute for night with a shorts romper or cocktail look.  While we’re talking about face care, don’t forget about lipliner by Prestige Cosmetics.  It costs $4.29 & is an easy way to touch up your lips if you’re looking to accentuate your pout with your favorite lip gloss.  However, I always recommend finding a hue closest to your actual lip color so that you don’t see a darker, tacky line if it starts wearing off.  When trying to hide some shine on your face in the heat, try Cover Girl‘s loose powder for $5.89.  Use a puffy applicator or lightweight blush brush to graze over your browbone & along your jawline to reduce an unwanted shine.

Moving on to your hands, if you’re still looking for that one perfect hand lotion to throw in your tote, experiment with a travel size item like the everyday hand lotion by Eos for $2.99.  If you don’t like it, you haven’t wasted too much of your hard-earned paycheck on a failed product. I’ve probably posted this nail lacquer by Ulta brand cosmetics in “After Party,” but it still stands the test of time as my favorite all-time polish for only $5.00!  Sometimes it’s even on sale as low as $2.  It reminds me of a nail polish version of Dorothy’s ruby slippers in Wizard of Oz. TIP: Take the survey at the bottom of your Ulta receipt & get a code for a fee nail polish too! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Hip Hair Accessories ($10 & Under)!

When you’re having fun out & about in the sun, it’s sometimes too hot out to keep your hair down (unless you’re lucky enough to live in one of those always-perfect climates).  However, an easy fix to keeping your hair stylish amid the weather is with hair accessories.  Back in October, I featured The Stylish Five: Get Happy About Headbands ($10 & Under)!, so I’m pretty well-versed in hair-ware!  Featuring clips, pins, & headbands is always fun b/c there’s just so much variety with feathers, rhinestones, animal prints, & flowers.

Here I’ve selected a rhinestone encrusted headband for $5.80 @Forever 21, which is perfect to dress up a basic tee or to put with something dressier like a cocktail dress (very Blair Waldorf!).  Next up, add some flair with feathers in this clip duo from Wet Seal for $7.00.  They’re cute for pulling back bangs or clipping onto the top of your ponytail! I love pulling my bangs back (in between haircuts) with a bobby pin & the extra delicate daisy detail just screams summer, available @Fred Flare for $6.00! Another fun accessory is a single flower clip like the green one from Target for $3.99.  If you’re crafty, you can even attach a safety-pin to it to wear on the lapel of your blazer or on a canvas tote bag!  Lastly, I saved my favorite, a “leopard blossom” headband, perfect to jazz up an LBD or summer romper.  Check it out @Charlotte Russe for a mere $6.50! Check back for more on The Stylish Five!  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Cute Dresses for Spring ($15 & Under)!

It’s not news that I loooove dresses & I love ones that are especially body conscious & uber-flattering.  In my hunt to find some cute & affordable looks for this spring (& can be translated into summer), I came across these five very stylish pieces, all under $15!

While the black & white strapless dress may verge on clubwear, if you add a pastel cardigan with a metallic belt & wedge sandal, it would make for a great day out & about with the beau’s family.   You can really stand out in the red & white striped illusion dress which instantly hides a belly & creates some slimming shape.  For day, try a ruched open sweater & some neutral bowed flats! Then there’s a the purple twisted dress which calls for something edgy like buckled cone heels, beaded earrings, & a utility jacket.  Go bright with an orange ruffled front dress with calls for some mixed gold bangles & printed platform pumps for a night out on the town. Lastly, for work, try on this sleeveless scoop neck dress in black & gray under a bold tweed jacket, with a sparkly chained necklace & braided strappy sandal!

When you’re building a look on a budget, finding versatile & flirty pieces like these for under $15 is a great start, especially when you have items from last season that you’re dying to bring back like scoop wedge platforms, a two-tone circle necklace, a linen moto jacket, a comfy cardigan, or a tweed belt. Keep in mind some of my favorite places to look for stylish bargains, including Forever 21, Ann Taylor LOFT, The Limited, Old Navy, Target, Walmart, GOjane, Charlotte Russe, Wet Seal, Mandee, Macy’s, Kohl’sJC Penney, & American Apparel.  Check out my previous posts of The Stylish Five for updates on the cutest flats from Aldo, deals on flip-flops @Payless, & many more! Not to mention, I recently posted on The $100 Challenge five adorable dresses that total under $100, which can really make you stand out in the crowd!  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Accessorize @Mandee ($10 & Under)!

@Mandee, some of their least expensive sale items are up to 50% off!  Not to mention that these accessories are awesome investments for this season & even for next year when fall & winter come back around!  Also, while the store is primarily suited for Juniors’, a Style Darling of any age can find timeless accessories for day, evening, or weekend here.  For your next date night, try out these dangly earrings with your LBD. A rich, luxe burgundy clutch like this is very chic with a neutral dress & metallic heels.  Even a snakeskin-inspired belt would fit nicely over tunic top.  Get warm in these fur-lined boots for chilly days in a shawl sweater & jeggings.  Ribbed tights in a a deep brown make for a preppy accent to a babydoll dress & knee boots.
