Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Chanel’s Denim-Inspired Nail Polish For Fashion’s Night Out!

In preparation for Fashion’s Night Out, the legendary house of Chanel has created three very exclusive & limited-time nail polishes.  To some, they may just look like blue polish, but they are denim-inspired in shades of the all-American fabric.  As you can see from the image to the right, the polishes have cute names like Coco Blue, Blue Boy, & Blue Rebel.

Courtesy of In Style, I learned that these colors will only be available at Chanel stores or on Chanel.com, starting September 8th, the night of the famed international shopping event in New York City.

There’s no word yet on how much the polishes will cost, but to treat yourself to one luxury item, nail polish seems like a good bet b/c no matter what outfit you’re wearing, if you splash on a little color to your nails, you can go to the grocery store with Chanel, have brunch with Chanel, wear Chanel to happy hour, & even go to sleep with Chanel, without having to splurge on more costly items like silk scarves, cashmere sweaters, or fine leather shoes (although I would love them all!)!

Be sure to check out the website for Fashion’s Night Out to see the countdown to the big day, as well as listings of collections, events, & where to shop! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Fall Accessories For Every Style Darling ($10 & Under)!

Sometimes it just takes a few extra accessories to totally change the way an outfit looks, especially when you’re transitioning from summer to fall.

I love featuring accessories among The Stylish Five b/c it’s just so easy to find affordable items, especially @Forever 21, my first-stop for accessories (both on the blog & in my own shopping).  Now these aren’t necessarily fall-centered items, but they’re out now & that means that you can add them to your wardrobe as we prepare for the layers of knits & booties.

The 3-D rose wallet is multi-functional since it doubles as an evening wristlet.  If you don’t wanna worry about losing a fancier item for a night of karaoke with friends at a bar, this $9.50 buy is exactly what you need & it matches everything!  Not only that, but it also works for day if you’re running around town.  The scarf is darling, especially since it comes in five different colors.  For $5.50, you could invest in all of them as early holiday gifts to your favorite girlfriends.  Find coordinating colors to their personalities & it’ll be extra special!  Since I’m ready for my end-of-the-summer haircut, I’ve been pulling my bangs back with bobby pins & the lace chiffon pin is a super steal for $1.50!  I actually do own this one in black & gray from a few years ago & love adding it to an updo when I’m not having a great hair day.

Let’s face it, there are days when wearing heels & getting all dolled up is just not in the cards, so beak out a cute pair of cotton tennis shoes! At a steal of a price for only $5.50, they come in six different colors, including magenta, black, white, blue, & gray!  If you pair them with dark denim straight leg jeans, a plaid button-down, & string of pearls, the look is instantly chic, but still casual & feminine!  AND, these make me think of that line in Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love:” Tennis shoes, don’t even need to buy a new dress

Lastly, my favorite item is the “Tour of Paris” tote, made from recycled materials & perfect to throw over your shower, holding your Kindle, iPad, & any extra necessities.  And did I mention that it’s only $1.50? Again, if you buy a bunch of these & the scarves, you’re halfway set to giving a fun variety gift!

What are your favorite bargain items this season? How much are you willing to spend on accessories like scarves & tote bags?  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Last Minute Clearance Buys @Lulu’s!

I know I’ve been focusing on a lot of the fabulous fall fashions that hit the runways, but I haven’t lost sight of my true Style Darling ways.  I discovered these amazing sale finds @Lulu’s.  All of these pieces are reduced in price from the original & can be mixed & matched with lots of items that you probably already have! While I realize that their size selection is limited, it’s still a steal for those who can benefit from it.

The rich navy velvet dress is striking & regal.  At just $15.00, you can keep it youthful with fishnets & thread earrings for any evening affair. Florals aren’t just for summer & spring, but the floral empire blouse is perfect for any season, especially for $15.00.  Play with the colors in the top to create a neutral, dark, or soft palette, depending on what look you’re seeking.  Or you can just keep it simple with your favorite wash of jeans & ballet flats when you wanna be casual.

I love colored tights for the fall!  The merlot tights are $15.00 & make any pair of metallic platform sandals fall-ready, especially with an a-line skirt & cardigan set.  They also look very rich against a shiny brocade or jacquard item.  Speaking of something shiny, the shimmering skirt is a little bit disco & a little bit 80s at the same time.  Marked down from $48.00 to $33.00, it’s the pop of color you need with a black blouse & boyfriend blazer!

The green one-shoulder dress is $22.00, marked down from $32.00, & can be worn over jeans or with your favorite leggings.  Be sure to add some layered beads with this or stacked bangles for some more dimension.  Slap a belt over the $25.00 cream top with your favorite tea-length skirt, preferably something denim or corduroy to get that crisp autumn deel!

You can never really have enough wedges & these belted peep toes for $24.00 are the essential neutral item of footwear for next year’s summer season!  The dolman jacket for $35.00 is the perfect piece for to play with proportion & edge if you’re pairing it with a sexy pinstripe pencil skirt or with your favorite wide leg jeans.

Where do you find the best end-of-the-season deals?  What’s on your must-have list for next year?  How much do you invest in clearance items?  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review / Runway Rundown: Who Loves Dolce & Gabbana’s Stars Print? Fergie, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, & More! That’s Who!

Dolce & Gabbana‘s latest fall / winter collection is headed for the stars- seriously! While playing with classic silhouettes in pencil skirts, flowy blouses, & oversized blazers, the mix of the celestial black & white pattern stands out even more with sequins, lace, animal print, & fur.  These are just a few of the very fabulous runway looks, courtesy of the official website. Even the separate items can be matched with dark denim skinny jeans, a bold tee, & colorful pointed tow heels & socks (as pictured).  To shop for these items, head over to Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, & Saks Fifth Avenue.  Which is your favorite?  Do you think stars look juvenile or luxury?

But if the runway isn’t somewhere you normally hang, take a look at the latest fashion magazine covers & their stylish cover girls, donning star-themed dresses by the famed fashion house.  This includes One Day‘s Anne Hathaway for Marie Claire, pop princess Britney Spears for Harper’s Bazaar, & everyone’s favorite Virgo, Beyonce for In Style!

And since this is a partial red carpet post… Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a slew of celebs of all styles opting for astronomical-inspired looks, as opposed to the tradition go-to polka dots or a simple LBD for camera-ready events.  First there’s Rose McGowan shows off her figured in a ruches sweetheart dress, Fergie isn’t afraid of color in the yellow & black mini, a very pregnant Jessica Alba wears a comfortable & elegant halter, Rosario Dawson plays with voluminous sleeves, Olivia Wilde sneaks around in sequins, Kim Kardashian isn’t afraid to wear curve-hugging stars during the dat, & Lily Allen is ladylike in a white coat & black tights.  Lastly, Evan Rachel Wood & Solange Knowles take on this print in legwear, both pairing the pants with loose-fitting tops & a masculine black jacket!

For more on Dolce & Gabbana, check out our Style ABC’s (x3) post, featuring the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson as the brand’s cosmetic spokesmodel.  Also, check out past runway shows at In Style!  Happy Styling!

8/23/11 Darling of the Day: Kerry Washington’s Wild Side in Express & Christian Louboutin!

Actress Kerry Washington recently made an appearance at Jennifer Klein’s annual Day of Indulgence party wearing a mix of affordable & luxury brands.  The wild leopard short-sleeved blouse is from Ann Taylor which she paired with Express red jeggings.  Last week’s guest judge on Project Runway was also sporting lace-up booties by Tory Burch & carried a Christian Louboutin clutch.

The balance of animal print here is very edgy, yet still elegant for a day event.  Red is a sometimes risky color to pair with leopard, but here we see Kerry pulling off the look flawlessly with some feminine flair.

It was hard to find the original blouse worn here, but I discovered that it is currently out of stock, since it was an item from an earlier season.  However, @Ann Taylor, you can find this leopard print trench blouse for $88.00.  That’s a high cost for a top, but if you’re looking to stay as true to the inspired look, that’s the best way to go!  I was able to recover the exact Zelda red jeggings from Express, which cost $69.90.  These are also available in other colors & with embellishments like studding.

@Payless, Christian Siriano‘s new line for fall has arrived & this includes the modern harness ankle boot for $69.00.  While this also may seem like a lot of money to spend on a pair of shoes, sign up at the store’s website to get coupons emailed to you & news on all the latest sales so that you never have to pay full price for a luxury pair of shoes like these!

The final touch comes from Kohl’s.  The leopard clutch by Relic is a great deal for $31.90, marked down from $58.00.  It’s a classic piece to wear with your favorite LBD or for something as chic & tailored as this day look.

For more on Kerry Washington, check out her two previous appearances on Darling of the Day from back in January @Sundance & in November in a sexy all-black look.  In addition, if you’re an Ann Taylor shopper, check out my recent post about the brand’s newest spokesmodel, Demi Moore.

Finally, just to keep with the fabulousness of leopard (& all the other beautiful animals of the jungle), take a click on over to last week’s post about affordable animal-inspired accessories in Quickie Darling Deal & Steal! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Jennifer Lopez Debuts New Line for Kohl’s!

Seems like Kohl’s is really stepping up their style, what with designers like Vera Wang, Lauren Conrad, & Dana Buchman leading the way, but the big news is that Jennifer Lopez has joined the Kohl’s family (yeah Marc Anthony too).  Her merchandise isn’t coming out until this fall (sometime in September), but you can keep this link among your favorites to get the first look.

Courtesy of Oprah’s O magazine, here’s a look from the line, as well as a YouTube video below, featuring both Jennifer & soon-to-be ex-husband Marc discussing their vision for their respective lines.

By the way, this marks the first official video post on Style Darling!  I’m super thrilled that the site is finally moving up to the next level!

Are you excited about Jennifer Lopez teaming up with Kohl’s?  Don’t forget that with Kohl’s credit card, you get serious rewards, including discount deals & their sales are always amazing! Even if some of the items start off at a great price, they get even better as the fall season sales begin.  When the line finally debuts, I’ll be all over it!  Will you?

Check out my full article on Culture Mob for more detail of the launch of this line! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Summer Handbags Sale ($20 & Under)!

Some of my readers are more bag fanatics than into shoes (why? I’,ll never know lol), so here I’ve decided to choose some of the cutest handbag / clutch finds that are either on sale on for the end of the summer season.  Not to mention that all these styles are under $20!  You can’t beat that!

First, when you’re running errands, or doing some shopping, hang on to a tote bag, like the Poppie Jones Sketchy Tote, marked down @DSW from $38.00 to $19.94!  This is perfect for casual days to hold a go-to magazine for a subway ride, your favorite book, or even a back-up sweater if headed to a chilly restaurant for a luncheon with the girls.  While you’re shopping around the sale section of DSW, check out the Nine West Billiards Crossbody Bag, also on sale & reduced from $39.00 to $19.95.  The fun animal-inspired flair to the bag is sexy enough to wear for a night out, but also great to carry around during the day with a pair of skinny jeans & a basic tee with flats.

If you’re looking for something floral to carry around from day-today, take a look on over @Target to the Global Girlfriend Ugandan Waxcloth Crossbody Sling Bag in tan.  The pattern is neutral, yet feminine- perfect to match with a cargo skirt & tank or with a casual summer dress while headed out to the library.  It’s also on sale for $9.94, marked down from earlier in the season at $26.99.  For fancier nights out, grab this Glittery Mesh Clutch in gold from Forever 21, for $17.80.  It’s the ultimate choice in a metallic accessory to pair with an LBD or a patterned ruffle mini dress.  Last, but not least, add some texture to your summer look with a Straw Rosette Tote.  It’s available in black or brown @Old Navy for under $13.00 & shows off just enough summer fun that you can probably pack a moderate surprise picnic for two inside!

Since now is the time for all of the end-of-the-season markdowns, be sure to check out more of my posts for The Stylish Five, featuring hair accessories, deals on beauty items, & dresses!  Happy Styling!

8/16/11 Darling of the Day: Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Zoe Saldana, & More in Express!

Every now & again I find that more than one celebrity is wearing a look from a store that you can probably find in your local mall, but in this case, there are five of today’s most in-demand or up & coming actresses who are sporting a basic striped frock from Express.  Here we have Amanda Seyfried, Emmy Rossum, Zoe Saldana, Olivia Munn, & a very pregnant January Jones wearing a three-quarter sleeve striped dress, which costs $49.90.  The red & gray style seems to be the most popular, however there is also a black & white option (if red & gray aren’t your colors), which I’ve read that Emily Blunt recently wore, but suffice to say, I can’t find an image of it anywhere!

This dress captures the nautical trend of the summer, & can also be accessorized with a fun straw fedora, movie star shades, hoop earrings, or even with a camel belt, as seen on Zoe.  You have plenty of shoe options here too, ranging from flip-flops, gladiator sandals, ballet flats, or even cowboy ankle boots.  Once the fall comes around, layer this with a boyfriend cardigan, belt & some textured tights!

Who do you think looks best in the dress?  How would you style it differently?  Do you like the black & white option better?  Happy Styling!

Fashion Flashback: Grace Kelly Immortalized With Barbie!

Oscar winner Grace Kelly is famous for being one of the most beautiful actresses of all time & now Mattel is helping immortalize the beloved star of films like Rear Window, Country Girl, & Dial M for Murder.  Usually, I feature looks that can help real Style Darling emulate celebrity vintage style, but I was so excited to learn of the Barbie dolls, honoring the very fashionable actress.  Not only was she revered as n actress & style icon, but she eventually became a real princess, marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco.

Courtesy of In Style, there are three looks that are being recreated in doll form, including a chic floral dress made famous by the actress when she wore it to the 1955 Cannes Film Festival, as pictured above.  During her time at Cannes, she met her future husband & her life was changed forever.  This doll costs $135.00 & it set to hit shelves in October.  The gorgeous blue gown pays homage to Grace in To Catch a Thief, one of her many thriller films under the direction of suspense master Alfred Hitchcock.  She starred opposite Cary Grant.  Lastly, her demure & regal wedding gown that she wore on April 19th 1956.  This doll will go for about $175.00, which is pretty steep, but if you’re a die-hard Barbie collector, it’s totally worth it!

“The dress epitomizes Grace Kelly’s overall classic style that really transcends trends,” reveals Toby Boshak, Executive Director of the Princess Grace Foundation. For more information on where you can get these dolls, check out Barbie Collector.  Also, if you’d like to see more of Grace Kelly’s glamorous style, take a look at Vanity Fair‘s look book. Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Teen Choice Awards Go Glam!

At this weekend’s Teen Choice Awards, young Hollywood came out in full force style! Some of these ladies in line are going to be the next Gwyneth Paltrows, Julianne Moores, & Kate Hudsons of the red carpet.  This is evident in their choice of styling, but let’s get down to who’s wearing who!  First up is Twlight star Ashley Greene who sticks to the pencil dress trend in a color-blocked design by GivenchyZoe Saldana goes metallic in a belted Lanvin frock with shoes by the late great Alexander McQueenThe Vampire Diaires leading lady, Nina Dobrev, was probably my favorite in this figure flattering D&G dress with a Salvatore Ferragamo clutch.  Canadian singer Avril Lavigne does some shameless advertising for her brand, Abbey Dawn in a chic LBD & patterned peep toes.  However, it is a nice chang eof pace for the usual punky blonde.  The svelte star of CW’s NikitaMaggie Q, went all white in a two-piece Max Mara look with black & white pumps- very Mad Men looking, eh?

Next, Lucy Hale took a risk in this sparkling Cengiz Abazoğlu mini dress with Giuseppe Zanotti ankle strap platforms.  It-girl of the moment, Emma Stone, juggled her press tour for The Help, by showing up to the ceremony in a Christian Dior shift dress with jewelry by Irene Neuwirth.  Current In Style Makeover cover girl, Rachel Bilson, looked ultra-femme in a ruffled Chloe dress with Brian Atwood studded ankle booties.  Country crooner, Taylor Swift, channelled Marilyn Monroe in a Rafael Cennamo LWD halter & of course, donned Neil Lane diamonds & bowed silver peep toe pumps.  Last, but not least is Selena Gomez, looking all grown up in an asymmetrical Erin Fetherston minidress & strappy Brian Atwood sandals.

Which is your favorite look?  Who’s your favorite young Style Darling?  Are you loving the little white dress trend?  What’s your favorite black & white look?  For more scoop on red carpet glam, check out Red Carpet Review!  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Karl Lagerfeld’s Stylish Line for Macy’s Starting August 31st!

The name Karl Lagerfeld is synonymous with luxury fashion, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to proudly own & wear a design by the legendary talent.  Thanks to In Style, we have a sneak peek at the his latest collection for the Impulse department, exclusively @Macy’s.  Prices range from $50 -$170, but if you wait for the right sale & take advantage of your Macy’s cardholder rewards, these very chic & modern looks can be yours for a steal! The genius behind brands like Chanel & Fendi said of the collection, “To me Macy’s is the perfect department store in the U.S. where everybody can find what they’re looking for without ruining their budget.

Which is your favorite look of the ones shown above?  I’m kind of crazy for the navy belted dress with those awesome tights!  That screams out for fall & some suede ankle booties!  Maybe I wouldn’t be sporting the cutoff leather gloves, but I can definitely see all of the dresses for a day at the office & mixed up with some metallic or patent accessories to dress up for cocktail hour!  For more looks by the designer, check out these links of Emma Watson, Diane Kruger, Katy Perry, & Blake Lively. Happy Styling!

NYC Street Style: Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty Exhibit @The Met!

Here I usually post about the styles & trends that I see during my occasional weekend trips into New York City, but since the city was all abuzz over fashion, I decided to place this blog under this category b/c the streets will never be the same again…

Late designer, Alexander McQueen was honored this summer with a very special exhibit at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Featuring his unique vision with looks from the last decade or so, it was called Savage Beauty. The opening kicked off the Costume Institute Gala back in May (see Red Carpet Review & Gala pics here), where stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Salma Hayek, Gisele BundchenChristina Hendricks, & Naomi Campbell shared their love of the designer by wearing his gowns.

Upon the closing of the fashion event, crowds & crowds of fashionistas & art lovers drew into the thousands, wrapping lines from 82nd Street, all the way down to 78th on its final day. This was very notably comparable to when DaVinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’ was temporarily housed at the Met in 1963 & everyone flocked to see the once in a lifetime exhibit in New York.

Lucky I was an early riser with the companionship of my stylish gal pal Stacey, to wait in line in the rain, preparing to be awed. Although no photographs were allowed once inside the exhibit (& btw: make friends on lines for places you really wanna get into b/c you never know if they can help get you in sooner.  Case in point: Stacey & Me!), I warmed up my ‘photo ninja’ skills & decided to share some of the greatest pieces of the exhibition with my Style Darlings.

Of course, I believe in the integrity of the exhibition, but how can you be there & not want to document everything? I turned off my flash & did manage to get some amazing shots in the darkly lit rooms of gowns, ensembles, head pieces, & jewelry, all of which I knew were especially blog-worthy. I’m simply doing my part so that everyone gets a chance to experience the wonder, darkness, & genius behind the lost, but not forgotten legend that is McQueen.

This tartan collection was especially amazing to see b/c McQueen was celebrating his Scottish heritage, trying to dispel any negative connotations about the culture. The last dress all the way in the back was the runway version which Sarah Jessica Parker wore while accompanying McQueen to the 2006 Costume Institute Gala, just a year before his death.

You think you’ve worn some crazy headbands?  Take a look at these!  In the wall display, there were pieces which recalled a very aggressive, but vixen nature, including a red lace mask like the one worn by Lady Gaga in 2009!

As soon as I saw this dress (sorry it’s blurry), I had to do some serious style thinking & eventually remembered that Debra Messing wore it to the 2002 VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards.  She caused quite a stir, but helped make the fashion world see that McQueen’s designs were daring works of art.

These were two of my favorite dresses, so very visually interesting.  The one on the left is made from neck to floor from pheasant feathers. The leather bustier dress to the right had some much detail in the skirt, you get lost in it!

The first dress below to the left was part of McQueen’s final collection last spring.  The pattern may look familiar to those who saw Salma Hayek wear a mini on the cover of In Style, as well as at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party last March.  Also, Demi Moore wore his dress & shoes on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar last year.

For more on the history of McQueen on the red carpet & in fashion, check out In Style. Also, check out the official website to see where the future of the fashion house is headed, now under the direction of Sarah Burton (designer of Kate Middleton’s wedding gown)!   Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Demi Moore is the Newest Face of Ann Taylor!

Ann Taylor has a new face & that’s none other than the sexy working mother of three, Demi Moore! The actress is no stranger to modeling, having also been the face of Versace a few years back.  However, now Mrs. Kutcher is filling in the very fashionable shoes of the likes of Heidi Klum, Naomi Watts, Milla Jovovich, & most recently, Katie Holmes.

In a recent feature for the new ad campaign, In Style quotes Demi as saying, “The new Ann Taylor is for modern women who want to take on the world in style.” This is the perfect phrase that captures a very polished, professional, & feminine brand that mixes ladylike details with menswear-inspiration for women of the office, working mothers, & Style Darlings everywhere.  Some of the designs at their regular price cost a bit much for me, but if you wait for the end of the season (LIKE NOW), you can find awesome deals on sale items, like sporty striped tees, sequined tanks, & delicate necklaces.

If you’re loving this brand, be sure to click on over to a Darling of the Day post, which features Sophia Bush.  Also, fans of LOFT, Ann Taylor’s sister store, include Hilary Swank & Jayma Mays! Happy Styling!

8/9/11 Darling of the Day: Anna Paquin in Black & White & Herve Leger!

We all know how super hot True Blood is this summer, but take a look at the show’s star, Academy Award winner, Anna Paquin.  During a recent appearance at the L.A. Shorts Fest, the actress kept it simple in black & white.  She plays up her basic white tee with a Hervé Léger pencil skirt, cinching in her tiny waist.

Take a look at her layered statement necklace, something that you can achieve by wearing two of your favorite chunky necklaces & wear them at the same time.  Also, a simple black bangle keeps it simple since she’s wearing towering leopard print platforms.

To get this look for your next gal pal luncheon or night out with the beau, try out a tee like the crewneck by St. John’s Bay from JC Penney, available in small to extra large, or even something super basic like a double pack of White Stag tees (that go up to XXL) from Walmart for only $10.00. On the bottom, I’ve picked two different pencil skirts, one tiered bandage skirt to flatter your curves & another lace trimmed skirt from Torrid for fuller Style Darlings!

As far as accessories go, I’ve selected these fierce leopard & black leather slingbacks.  The mixture of the animal print with the black & white color blocking suggests a youthful spirit & some summer flair.  Anna is carrying a square textured clutch, but probably not in mesh like the $22.90 version from Windsor Store.

For some final touches, I found this bracelet with heart details, available in red & fuchsia for $2.80 @Forever 21.  Suggested layerable necklaces are the webbed chains necklace for $14.80 & a layered Singapore chain necklace for $8.80.

For more on Anna’s out & about style, as well as her ever fabulous red carpet looks, take a look at her in Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Marios Schwab, Stella McCartney, & Alexander McQueen.  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Super New Suede Styles @Payless!

I post a lot about shoes… but there’s just so much to say! Given the big sales currently @Nine West (see post here), as well as the awesome designer styles currently sold @Payless (see another post here), I’m loving the new fall styles coming out as well.  My favorite texture for the season is suede, but while we’re still loving the summer sun, you can break out some suede this August!

These styles range in price from $19.99 up to $59.99, but most can work for you well into the winter (& that’s the last time I mention winter, until we’re well into fall)!  To start, let’s take a look at the tan double strap sandals that can create a longer legline & make your gams look like they go on for miles, especially with an LBD or printer romper & chunky belt.  The bow ankle wrap flat sandals are adorable to mix with walking shorts & a beaded tank, or with a denim skirt & basic tee. Also, consider the black & camel style for days when you’re donning earth tones!

The chop-out shooties in split pea & berry are designed by Lela Rose.  Those are the pricey shoes, but I do have my eye out for them during the store’s next BOGO 50% off sale since the black pair (not pictured) is just calling out for my black opaque tights & a pencil skirt when the weather gets crisper out!  But when shooties aren’t your type of shoe, I always have a cute flat in mind.  I just love the purple ballet flats, which also come in black & brown, to coordinate with a button-down shirt & bootcut jeans.  The brown clog slides remind me of those old-school Candie’s that Jenny McCarthy used to model, but with the deeper tone, they’re ideal to match with denim, chambray, or corduroy!

Also, during a previous post about the nude shoes trend in Luxury Look-Alikes for Less, I featured nude pumps like the red knot pumps that could really jazz up an office look, also in black & navy.  The tan ones that I’ve had for a few months now are super sexy, recalling an old school Marilyn Monroe-esque feel.  While we’re on the subject of pumps, don’t forget about sky high platforms.  They’re all the rage right now- just ask Kourtney Kardashian & Dianna Agron who’ve been spotted in them at recent press events.  Add a pop of color to your belted sheath or 70s-inspired jumpsuit with these electric blue 5″ platform pumps, which are also sold in black suede & tan patent.

Sign up for emails from Payless so that you can receive all the latest news on their BOGO sales, when the summer styles go on clearance, & to get your feet on 20% off coupons for your birthday!  Also, the best tip I can think of is if you’re ordering from the website, have your purchase shipped to your local Payless store to avoid paying a shipping & handling fee! Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: The Big Jewelry Post Featuring Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, & More!

Who doesn’t love fashion jewelry?!  For starters, the real thing is fabulous, but when you can find luxury look-alikes like these, who’s thinking about dropping some serious dough?

During my search, I came across these blue-stone hoop earrings.  One pair is $695.00 @Bergdorf Goodman, whereas the other comparable pair is sold @Kohl’s by the Candies label for under $10.  These are the perfect pop of color to bring out any eye color, especially with a boldly printed maxi dress, or if you’re sporting a ruffled blouse & skinny jeans for date night!  Next, if you’re looking for animal-inspired accessories, check out the Ikat bangle by Kate Spade from Neiman Marcus, however it runs $128.00, whereas the white leopard option is a mere $5.80 @Forever 21.  If you’re wearing solids like a sultry red, or a bright cobalt mini dress, here’s where animal prints work best in your accessories.

If you’re into two-finger rings, a la Gwen Stefani’s Rock Steady phase, check out what designers Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen have designed for their label, Elizabeth & James.  The sea urchin two finger ring costs $175.00 @Bloomingdale’s, but is comparable in the rock star chic sense to the Candie’s crystal two finger ring from Kohl’s for $11.20.  Lastly, I wasn’t intentionally looking to feature a second pair of earrings, but I couldn’t get over how similarly these drop earrings are & just had to make room for them! Between Nordstrom & Forever 21, both pairs show off gold tones, but vary in price from $4.80 all the way up to $262.00!  These are the perfect finishing touches on a look with upswept hair or a messy ponytail!

Check out our previous Luxury Look-Alikes posts for more great affordable ways to recreate these stylish finds!  Is there a piece that you’re looking for, but can’t find for less cash?  I can’t make any promises, but I’ll do my best to try & find it!  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Best Beauty Deals @Ulta ($10 & Under)!

During a recent bargain beauty excursion @Ulta, I was coupon queen & discovered a bunch of deals on some of my new favorite items!  What’s so great about Ulta is that you can find great brand name cosmetics & beauty products for $10 & Under, & in most cases $5 & under too! I picked different items to showcase, including this shimmering eyeshadow by Essence in Disco Diva, for only $1.99!  If applied lightly, it’s flirty for day, or even something under the lower lash line is cute for night with a shorts romper or cocktail look.  While we’re talking about face care, don’t forget about lipliner by Prestige Cosmetics.  It costs $4.29 & is an easy way to touch up your lips if you’re looking to accentuate your pout with your favorite lip gloss.  However, I always recommend finding a hue closest to your actual lip color so that you don’t see a darker, tacky line if it starts wearing off.  When trying to hide some shine on your face in the heat, try Cover Girl‘s loose powder for $5.89.  Use a puffy applicator or lightweight blush brush to graze over your browbone & along your jawline to reduce an unwanted shine.

Moving on to your hands, if you’re still looking for that one perfect hand lotion to throw in your tote, experiment with a travel size item like the everyday hand lotion by Eos for $2.99.  If you don’t like it, you haven’t wasted too much of your hard-earned paycheck on a failed product. I’ve probably posted this nail lacquer by Ulta brand cosmetics in “After Party,” but it still stands the test of time as my favorite all-time polish for only $5.00!  Sometimes it’s even on sale as low as $2.  It reminds me of a nail polish version of Dorothy’s ruby slippers in Wizard of Oz. TIP: Take the survey at the bottom of your Ulta receipt & get a code for a fee nail polish too! Happy Styling!

8/3/11 Darling of the Day: Jordana Brewster Goes Casual in Lavender Shorts (Dedicated to Laurie)!

For my friend Laurie’s birthday today, I decided to post a cool, casual look that reminds me of her!  I especially wanted to post something with shorts since both Laurie & Ms. Jordana Brewster have such great legs!

Here we have the Fast & Furious star taking a stroll in L.A., wearing a cute ensemble of a classic white button-down shirt with lavender belted shorts, shades, & flip-flops. This look is nothing short of polished (no pun intended).

To start, head to Express for the shirt, which is also available in nine different colors.  Watch out for the store’s end of the season blowout sales when basic items like this are marked down to practically nothing!  A crisp button down can be a 365-day investment under a cardigan with dark denim jeans, or paired with a sleeveless sweater vest & pencil skirt. I found @Forever 21 look-alike shorts for only $13.50, which also come in white, black, & khaki, if you’re looking to sport a casual shorts look for the rest of your summer days with babydoll tops, racerback tanks, & graphic tees!

To complete this outfit, I’ve compiled affordable accessories, including a $9.50 belt & stylish bag for under $20 from Charlotte Russe, $5.99 flip flops from Payless that you may be able to find cheaper during the store’s next BOGO 50% off sale, & rectangular sunglasses from Forever 21 for $5.80, which will save you a bundle instead of getting a designer style! I picked out a silver loop ring from JC Penney which costs $19.99, reduced from $40.00.  Also, while you’re there, check out the crystal wrap bracelet by MixIt for only $6.00 (originally $15.00).  A menswear-inspired watch from Kohl’s is the last finishing touch to an ensemble perfect for a picnic, family gathering, or walk about town shopping with girl friends!

Basics for a Bargain: Pencil Dresses Inspired by Olivia Wilde, Dianna Agron, Emma Stone, & More!

Pencil dresses are the perfect way to accentuate your figure!  What’s even more fabulous about a dress like this is that you can show off some serious leg without worrying about a short hemline.  No matter your accessories (platforms, peep toes, belts, or chandelier earrings), a pencil dress recalls Old Hollywood & never goes out of style.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon star Rosie Huntington-Whiteley dons a feminine lace Dolce & Gabbana frock with neutral stilettos to a press event in Shanghai.  The softness of the lace details adds dimension, as well as creating a longer legline.  Emma Stone is trendy in a belted black lace pencil dress by Tom Ford, paired with Fred Leighton jewelry for the New York premiere of Crazy Stupid LoveThe Change-Up star Leslie Mann rocked a LWD with sequin accents by Marchesa with a gold clutch & Jimmy Choo peep toes.  Dianna Agron promoted Glee in a velvet Stella McCartney peplum dress & towering YSL platforms.  Lastly, super Style Darling of the moment, Olivia Wilde of Cowboys & Aliens went siren red in a knee-length Antonio Berardi pencil sheath with satin Brian Atwood pumps.

I’ve selected some super cute & affordable pencil dresses that are the foundation to any cocktail or work look.  We’ll start with the printed belted sheath dress from Macy’s by Charter Club, which costs $44.99.  If you break out your store card & check your local newspaper for coupons, you can reap the rewards of this great deal that can be made to look more professional with a blazer or jazzed up by switching the belt for something metallic.  Also, click here to see this dress is available in sizes 14W – 24W.  Next, @Victoria’s Secret, you can find a form-fitting tee midi dress for $59.50, that can be dressed up or down with just a few simple accessories, but really makes an impression as a stand-alone LBD.  Kohl’s sells this illusion brush stroke dress by AB Studio, which looks like a blouse & pencil skirt, but it is put together in one fashionable piece for only $41.30.

For my fuller-figured Style Darlings, I did find a mega sexy red dress from Torrid which runs in sizes 16-26.  No wonder it’s called Stop Staring! Red Millions Dollar Baby Dress, although it costs $120.50 (which is a lot for our budget, but this is definitely a dress that you can get a lot of miles out of for work or a wedding!).  It can be downplayed for a day at the office with a printed cardigan or simply worn for a fancy night out with black patent pumps, like those pictured.  Over @White House Black Market, I came across an affordable steal of a dress- the white jacquard strapless dress for $39.98, marked down from $158.00! It’s perfect to wear this season or it can be saved for the holidays with a sequined bolero cardy.  Over @ASOS, this cafe creme cowl front pencil dress costs $46.55.  The dress just calls out for a subtle, but complimentary animal print, like a leopard belt or chunky cut-out booties.  Also, it kind of reminds me of the slinky, nude dress that Carrie wore on her first date with Big in the first season of Sex & the City!

Red Carpet Review: Jayma Mays Promoting ‘The Smurfs’!

I’m totally loving all the latest images (courtesy of In Style) of Glee star Jayma Mays, who is currently promoting her newest film, The Smurfs.  She’s got that girl-next-door thing down, but knows how to keep it classy & sexy.

Jayma shows off her legs in a bright green Reem Acra mini dress with Ferragamo pumps, BaubleBar earrings & a Judith Leiber clutch at the film’s New York premiere. While filming a segment for the Young Hollywood Studio in Los Angeles, the perky actress donned a casual orange & white striped belted dress with layers of chains. During an event at Confederacy in L.A., Jayma sports head-to-toe Rebecca Minkoff, including a belted blue blazer, & purple mini skirt. Upon arrive in NY, she made an appearance at a mock Smurfs village in Central Park wearing a Rebecca Minkoff blouse & shorts with Aldo pumps & Jamie Wolf earrings. Lastly, while at the Empire State Building with co-star Neil Patrick Harris, wearing a Tibi blazer & shorts with a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, & Aldo pumps.

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Super Strappy Black Gladiator Sandals from Barneys Vs. Mandee!

If you’re looking for some super sexy strappy black gladiator sandals for a cocktail dress or your favorite little black dress, then check these out!  However, I was soooo enchanted by a pair from Barney’s, but couldn’t get past the $675.00 price tag.  Naturally this is b/c the brand of the ‘Zaira’ is Loeffler Randall, which is also available @Zappos, Neiman Marcus, Singer 22, & Nordstrom.

However, as a Style Darling on a budget, check out Mandee for these four-inch strappy cone heel sandals.  They only cost $15.00 & while the two pairs of sandals are not identical, they’re pretty close in concept.  Think about how much you buy for $675 & why in the world would you want to spend that much on one pair of shoes (unless of course money was not an issue)?

When I look for shoes, it’s all about getting the most for my money.  As a regular on the Mandee website & in their stores, I’ve found their shoe selection very reliable in comfort & style.  Not to mention all the discount rewards you can earn just for having the store’s credit card! Check out previous Luxury Look-Alikes for Less posts for more great affordable & stylish finds! Happy Styling!

7/29/11 Darling of the Day: Kristen Stewart Casual in Converse @Comic Con!

At this week’s Comic Con, Twilight star Kristen Stewart showed off her edgy / casual style in a tissue tee by Market, with a black bra, skinny jeans, & her favorite pair of Converse sneakers.  I wouldn’t recommend this look for most Style Darlings, but lately, the actress has been pulling it off, looking a bit softer & feminine than usual.  Anyone agree?

Endorsing a $47.99 tee isn’t my usual way of style blogging for a bargain, but I came across this see-thru tee from Bluefly that would replicate this look perfectly.  If you alternate this enough with other items you currently own, it will really begin to earn its value. Also, I choose this plus-size top from Old Navy, which is only $8.00 & available in nine other colors.  If you’re looking for some color in a look like this, then that’s your best bet!  As for jeans, I stuck to Old Navy with Flirt skinny jeans for $19.97 & Plus braid-trim skinny jeans for $39.94.

Kristen keeps it simple, but sexy with a black bra underneath & what better way to buy a black bra, than to get a white one with it for practically free!  This duo set is only $32.oo @Victoria’s Secret.  I’ve actually used coupons for this item & it’s been an essential part of my undergarment collection & you can’t get any better than Vickie’s!  A rectangular ring is all that she wears & here’s a great silver pick from Forever 21, costing barely $5.00! Lastly, while brand-name Converse sneakers run up to $90.00, I found high top look-alikes from Payless for $29.99 by Airwalk.

All & all, this look will cost you anywhere between $98.73 to $118.75, which really isn’t bad for one outfit that can be mixed & matched to follow the latest trends. For more on Kristen’s style, check out Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Met Costume Institute Gala & In Style’s Star Finder to see all her red carpet looks.  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Hip Hair Accessories ($10 & Under)!

When you’re having fun out & about in the sun, it’s sometimes too hot out to keep your hair down (unless you’re lucky enough to live in one of those always-perfect climates).  However, an easy fix to keeping your hair stylish amid the weather is with hair accessories.  Back in October, I featured The Stylish Five: Get Happy About Headbands ($10 & Under)!, so I’m pretty well-versed in hair-ware!  Featuring clips, pins, & headbands is always fun b/c there’s just so much variety with feathers, rhinestones, animal prints, & flowers.

Here I’ve selected a rhinestone encrusted headband for $5.80 @Forever 21, which is perfect to dress up a basic tee or to put with something dressier like a cocktail dress (very Blair Waldorf!).  Next up, add some flair with feathers in this clip duo from Wet Seal for $7.00.  They’re cute for pulling back bangs or clipping onto the top of your ponytail! I love pulling my bangs back (in between haircuts) with a bobby pin & the extra delicate daisy detail just screams summer, available @Fred Flare for $6.00! Another fun accessory is a single flower clip like the green one from Target for $3.99.  If you’re crafty, you can even attach a safety-pin to it to wear on the lapel of your blazer or on a canvas tote bag!  Lastly, I saved my favorite, a “leopard blossom” headband, perfect to jazz up an LBD or summer romper.  Check it out @Charlotte Russe for a mere $6.50! Check back for more on The Stylish Five!  Happy Styling!

Color Me Style: ‘Orange’ You Glad You’re In Orange?

Bright rich hues are the hot for summer, especially those in the  orange family.  Not everyone can pull of the boldness of persimmon, tangerine, or saffron, but here we have some stylish examples of how to pull off the tricky color in a dress.  Eva Longoria dons an ASOS sheath with coordinating Brian Atwood slingbacks.  Emma Stone plays up her auburn locks at a Today Show appearance.  Olivia Palermo shows off a Victoria Beckham design with leopard pumps & a pink Sondra Roberts clutch.  The Tree of Life star Jessica Chastain mixes hues with bright pink sandals.  Jennifer Aniston breaks out of her LBD with this draped cut-out Vivienne Westwood dress & Christian Louboutins.  Lastly, Kristin Cavallari wears a Jessica Barkley mini dress with nude pumps. To really play up this color, choose softer tones like neutrals in your accessories, or go a little bolder with bright pinks & animal-inspired shoes.  Also, nothing looks better with this color than a healthy tan (but DO avoid tanning beds), but as you can see on Emma & Jessica, a pale glow can also work with the right orange tone!

The selected dresses range in their orange hues from cinnamon to tangerine, & are all under $50! First, the ruched jersey dress by AGB is available @Macy’s.  Second, Urban Outfitters has this Sparkle & Fade knit bow back dress for $48.00.  If orange really isn’t for you, then this orange / red cotton-blend dress from Lulu’s might work better for you.  @Jessica London, this side ruche dress is flattering on many shapes & is currently marked down to $39.99.  The fifth dress is chiffon in rust from Forever 21 & can be coordinated with many different accessories like a chunky or metallic belts & a crochet vest.  Finally, the one-shoulder Bar III dress from Macy’s is reduced in price to $37.49 & can be matched with platform sandals & stacked bangles. Check out our previous Color Me Style posts for more color-coordinated style finds!  Happy Styling!

7/25/11 Darling of the Day: Pippa Middleton’s Casual Chic Day Look!

Pippa Middleton is making her second appearance here on Style Darling in a week (previously featured wearing a denim dress in Basics for a Bargain), so you know there’s some serious stuff going on with this famous British sister!  Pippa was caught out & about in May, strolling around London in a super hip, yet easy ensemble which includes a basic black blazer, red top, & skinny Hudson jeans.  She accessorized her look with Gucci sunglasses & a Modalu handbag.

During my search for comparable & affordable items, I was able to out together two looks for both Women’s & Plus Sizes.  These include blazers from Target & Torrid, tops from Bebe & One Stop Plus, & lastly, skinny jeans from Express & Torrid.

For the accessories, I really lucked out on bargain-priced items with a pair of sunglasses for $5.80, lace-up booties for $6.99 (YES $6.99!), & a camel shoulder bag for $32.80, all @Forever 21! As for the jewelry, the pair of drop earrings are from the Simply Vera Vera Wang collection @Kohl’s for $9.00.  Lastly, Charlotte Russe was my go-to resource for the rhinestone necklace, as well as the flower wreath ring & intertwined rhinestone ring, both $4.00!

These are the basic items that are the foundation to any great outfit.  She remains classic, chic, & very cool in this look that can be worn for a casual day at the office, running errands on the weekends, or even if you’re headed out to a quick meeting at a trendy cafe.  I recently had the argument about cardigans being so much more fabulous than blazers, but here is where the opposite is true.  I love how adding a blazer to a primary-colored top & basic pair of jeans (any style- flared, skinny, straight, or wide), adds a little more polish to the typically casual outfit.  Be sure to check out more Darling of the Day posts, including 48 photos of the Style Darling, courtesy of In Style’s Photo Gallery!
