It’s the season for family brunches, baby & bridal showers, drives to the wineries, & more! A midi dress, paired with a cardigan or denim jacket & slides or wedges, is a classic options that’s both flattering & timeless.
The value of a dress like this goes beyond spring & summer since you can pair it with a duster cardigan & cowboy boots for fall festivities too! How would you style this dress? Which color do you like best? How often do you wear midi dresses? When it comes to fabrics & patterns, I have a set of what I like that suits my style. Not included in that is anything leather or faux leather, besides belts or shoes. A faux leather detail on a pant or top isn’t unheard-of for me, but a whole piece in it makes me fearful of overheating in the office, classroom, or during a special occasion. However, one affordable faux leather dress has me inspired & rethinking my whole point of view on the material.
Scoop’s faux leather pleated strapless midi dress in black, olive, or aubergine @Walmart ($54.00, available in sizes XS-XXL) is a machine washable polyester-spandex must-have piece in a timeless length to wear all year long—for real. The sweetheart neckline, A-line silhouette, & pleated midi skirt scream feminine, but juxtapose with an edgy look from the fabric.
Both Carrie Bradshaw & Blair Waldorf would wear this! This could be styled for day under a tied button-down shirt, blazer, & stilettos; under a slouchy sweater with knee boots & stacked bangles for fall; & with a studded cardigan, drop earrings, & ankle strap heels. For nighttime, try this with a choker & PVC heels, sparkling platforms & a leather jacket, or ankle boots & a neon clutch. Also, I thinking about the color combinations with the olive & aubergine options, mixing denim, brocade, plaid, houndstooth, or lace with it.
When it comes to paying tribute to a celebrity’s red carpet history, I typically go straight to the major awards shows & movie premieres to capture gorgeous gowns that they have worn. However, birthday girl, Diane Kruger, is an exception. Even though her red carpet gowns are something to be marveled at, mostly because of how she styles & wears them, Diane’s aesthetic for ultra feminine rock ‘n’ roll with a vintage twist demands attention & admiration, especially as the German actress celebrates 46 rotations around the sun.
Diane is a designer darling, who can wear anything from a midi dress, mini dress, shorts outfit, menswear inspiration, and more, all while styling with unexpected extras, including an odd pop of color in the shoe, strappy sandals or ankle booties, or studded belts or fringe accents. I’m always excited to see what she will wear while attending a variety of events, such as runway shows fashion week, Vanity Fair’s Oscar party, an international film festival, & more. Ever since I started Style Darling Daily 12 years ago, Diane has been one of my favorite A-listers to watch out for.

With over two months left of summer, you’d think that stores would be fully stocked with the latest designs & styles for any shopper still looking to update their wardrobe for the season or investing in a fresh vacation wardrobe… but now that 4th of July has passed, retailers are clearing out merchandise to make room for incoming fall fashion. This means that it’s time to check those clearance racks for special finds that are perfect for the still-thriving summer season, but also to store for next spring’s rotation.
New York & Company is probably one of my favorite places to buy work & weekend clothing, but now that there are no longer any stores to peruse through, making online purchases that are final sale should be done carefully. When buying anything online, a shopper should always read the reviews & the product details, like garment material & care, along with checking a size chart for limited size availability, but for items that cannot be returned, taking the time to do this, especially for a dress that looks good enough to add-to-cart, is crucial. As New York & Company’s website is promoting their latest Into the Wild summer collection, most, if not all, short, midi, & maxi dresses from earlier in the season are reduced to $7.99, including the following bold & stylish short frock redlines:
If you’re a bargain shopper, like me, don’t forget to also check out New York & Company’s other redlines, including tops for $7.99, sweaters for $4.99, jeans for $7.99, shorts for $7.99, skirts for $7.99, pants for $7.99, outerwear for $7.99, & shoes for $7.99 to stock up on can’t-miss deals!
When on the hunt to spruce up some summer staples, I fell into the Amazon abyss, naturally. However, I was happy to come up for air with the Women’s Bohemian Summer One Shoulder Smocked Midi Dress sold by Zesica on Amazon. There are other vendors that carry this type of dress, but my heart landed on Zesica also because of some other favorited items that I added to my cart from their Amazon store too.
Anyway, what I love about this dress is its lightweight fabric, smocked bust (perfectly stretchy), & the variety of 28 styles–in 4 solid colors & 24 patterns–for $39.99.
I bought the black (top left) to wear to a Jewel concert recently, along with the grassgreen (second on top left) when attending a graduating ceremony recently. I might just add 1 or 2 more to my cart since I love the fit & style so much, plus I’m constantly seeing discounts posted with the purchase, like currently there’s a $2 off coupon with purchase. I’d recommend pairing this dress with a cropped cardigan for a daytime occasion or breaking out the jewel sandals for a dressier event.
I must say… The only downside is the dress runs from S-XL, which excludes the amazing plus-size shoppers & readers out there, but stores like Lane Bryant have got you covered with their gorgeous variety of summer midi dresses that are on sale now!
Last summer, when my husband & I were planning our wedding, we included a basket of flip flops to give to our guests for those with tired feet after all the dancing & partying at our reception. Of course, we turned to Old Navy for comfortable, affordable, & colorful flip flops in bulk (& we couldn’t resist buying a few pairs for ourselves too). This summer, Old Navy continues its flip flop legacy with so many fashionable varieties, which brings us to today’s post!
Not only is Old Navy one of my favorite flip flop destinations (making traveling or packing for a quick weekend jaunt of errands so much easier), but there’s plenty of fashionable footwear to shop for if you’re looking for something with a little more flair this summer. Try out some slides, espadrilles, sandal flats, or wedges!
Try any of these shoe styles with a floral summer dress & denim jacket for a cool evening walk by the water, a t-shirt with layered necklaces & cut-off jeans, or ankle pants & a blouse while transitioning from work to play! Additionally, the below dresses are also available, perfect for styling (& super affordable) with these shoes!
