Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Black & Gray Patterned Cardigans from Bloomingdales & Forever 21!

I know I haven’t posted any of my own outfits on here yet, but I will & when I do, you’ll be seeing a lot of cardigans! It’s probably my favorite finishing piece to a look.  Some may say that cardigans are frompy or for old ladies, but I love that they’re more delicate than bulky jackets & come in so many different forms.

I saw the C by Bloomingdale’s Fair Isle open front cardigan ($152.00) @Bloomingdale’s & loved the color combination, but it was out of my price range, even though it had been marked down from $190.00. This is something so effortless to wear with a basic pullover & my favorite dark denim jeans on a fall afternoon running errands.  I even love how the picture is styled with a long pendant necklace- exactly what I would wear!

However, since we’re talking about patterned cardigans, I have to bring up the black & gray knitted geometric cardigan ($34.90) from Forever 21.  At first glance I thought the two sweaters were identical.  Alas, they are not the same, but since I love wearing black & gray during the cooler months.  Don’t ask me why, I think it makes me feel warmer!

Both can be worn to add some texture to an outfit of a silk shell & pencil skirt, or wide leg trousers with a turtleneck.  There’s over $100.00 worth of savings between the two items, money that can be well-spent elsewhere, don’t you agree?

What do you think of cardigans?  Do they regularly rotate in your wardrobe?  Which would you wear?  Which would you actually buy?  Take a look at the last Luxury Look-Alikes for Less post, featuring Alexis Bittar vs. Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s earrings!  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Chic Jewelry Finds On Sale @Nine West!

When you hear about Nine West, it’s usually for their shoes & handbags, but not necessarily for their other accessories like jewelry. A lot of that jewelry is on sale & I picked out some of my favorite pieces that would look great with any number of stylish outfits!

The multi tone earrings ($11.20) have that gypsy look, but bring together any other gold & silver accessories you may be wearing!  For a little pop of color on your wrist, check out the flower chain bracelet ($21.00).  It’ll pick up on any bright colors in a patterned maxi dress or make for a nice touch with an abstract print skirt.  If you’re into adjustable cocktail rings, then take a look at the green flower ring ($13.00) to add a special tropical touch to your outfit.  I’m really loving this rose gold collar necklace ($15.20).  The different tones of the shells is romantic & unexpected.

A few months back, I posted about Sophie Theallet’s designs for Nine West.  Aside from super cute stylish wedges for the spring & summer, the designer created this adorable Parisian-inspired charm necklace ($17.60).  If you love charms, then you’ll love the charm bracelet ($14.40), adorned with pursed & heels! There’s even enough room on it to add your own charms too!

When it comes to earrings, I’m a studs kind of girl & love these button stud earrings in spirals & flowers, also available in silver ($8.80)!  However, when I’m looking at jewelry, I go straight to bracelets & love this stretch bracelet ($19.00) in copper with turquoise beads.

Unique pieces of jewelry like these enhance your outfit & bring out your personality.  I love that they’re all so feminine & affordable!  Would you wear any of these pieces?  Which is your favorite?  Check out previous posts about Nine West items, including clearance shoes @Piperlime, how to recreate Miranda Kerr’s look, & the end-of-the-summer shoe sale!  Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Slip Into A Sweater Dress with Inspiration from Angelina Jolie, Nicole Richie, & Cameron Diaz!

It’s fall, which means that it’s time to take out your favorite knits & sweaters.  The easiest way to start your outfit is with a sweater dress, both comfy & chic.  I’m on the prowl to get one for myself, now that I’ve discovered that I too can wear leggings!  Like it was really such an epiphany lol! Anyway, you have your basic black dress, basic cocktail dress, but what about your basic sweater dress?  You can pair it with tights & knee boots, or flat boots & a crossover bag, a scarf & sunglasses, or some opaque tights & a belt.

To get a little inspired for this basic, I’ve found a slew of famous faces donning the very fall-forward look.  Cameron Diaz slipped into a Bottega Veneta with color Jimmy Choo sandals at the premiere of Knight & Day last year.  Heather Graham sports a black & white striped Diesel turtleneck sweater dress with metallic pumps. Oscar-winner Catherine Zeta Jones wore her gray sweater dress with leggings, a short-sleeved cardigan, slouchy boots, & a scarf while running errands on a chilly November day in New York City.  Lauren Conrad attended an event for Kohl’s in her black sweater dress with matching gladiators, by LC by Lauren ConradNicole Richie also did some self-promotion wearing her own House of Harlow 1960 ankle boots & a dark green sweater dress at a signing for her book, PricelessAngelina Jolie enjoyed a night out in Manhattan, wearing a navy cableknit sweater dress by Loro Piana with Salvatore Ferragamo knee boots.  And way back in 2006, Eva Mendes was super stylish, wearing this Max Azria turtleneck sweater dress with killer brown knee boots & stunning silver cuff bracelet.

These seven sweater dresses will instantly update your dress collection for the season & impeccably show off your figure!  @Macy’s you can find this Style&co. sweater dress / cableknit tunic ($26.98) in espresso.  The ‘Happy Place’ black & taupe sweater dress ($49.00) from Lulu’s is a little more sexy & wild for a sweater dress, but with the right black tights & black patent leather pumps, you’ll look fierce in this 80’s-inspired dress! The third pictured above is the one I want!  I’ve never actually bought anything from Dress Barn, but this cabled sweater dress with envelope collar in fern ($39.99) best represents my style in the form of a sweater dress!  The neckline is modern & flirty, but the cableknit calls on everything I love about preppy style.

I thought it was fitting to find this next dress @Forever 21, which is a burgundy ‘Angelina’ sweater dress ($27.80), since I featured Ms. Jolie up top. The matching belt is super cute & allows for its wearer to mix it up with something in leather.  The dress is also available in cream for the same price.  While clicking around my favorite store, White House Black Market, I saw that the black bateau neck sweater dress ($29.98) was marked down from $100.00! I should warn my readers before clicking that it is only available at this time in size: XL.

As for my fuller figured Style Darlings, I went nuts when I saw the ivory cabled sweater dress ($49.00) @Dress Barn, which I definitely want for myself, but it’s not available in my size.  This would look very chic with a gold belt & metallic ballet flats for a day at the office, or spice it up with something red for the upcoming holidays.  Also, the gray ruffle front sweater dress ($64.90) isn’t necessarily a bargain @Avenue, but is sold in sizes 14-28. It’s professional enough for work, but dressy enough for a special occasion dinner with your beau.

Check out my previous Basics for a Bargain posts, featuring classic items like leather pants, pencil dresses, & more! Do you have a sweater dress?  Where did you get it? Would you wear one of these sweater dresses?  Which celeb looks best in a sweater dress?  Happy Styling!

10/1/11 Darling of the Day: Jessica Biel’s Day Out in Toronto!

Shame on me for taking a few tiresome days off from blogging! However, I’m back now with some fierce style to talk about!  I’ve had this image of Jessica Biel saved in my favorites for a while now & I just love it!

During a stroll in Toronto, the actress is wearing a feminine bow-front long-sleeved blouse with Paige Denim jeans, peep toe flats, round tortoise sunglasses, & a studded tote bag.  Any Style Darling can pull off this look b/c it’s just so classic & effortless.  Everyone should have a go-to blouse to begin with & it’s always polished & day-ready when paired with dark denim jeans!

Staying true to my promise of featuring both women’s & plus-size style, I’ve first selected these skinny mini-flare jeans from Old Navy ($29.00) that are currently marked down from $36.94 & range in sizes 0 – 20.  To go with the jeans, you can find the bow neck blouse in parchmen by a.n.a. from JC Penney ($24.99), which is also currently on sale, originally marked $38.00.  For my fuller-figured Darlings, the tie ruffle blouse ($38.00) is available in sizes 14 – 32 @Avenue.  If you think the white looks too matronly, there is also a black option of the blouse available too!

As for the three most important finishing touches, I’m so happy to have found these classic round tortoise sunglasses ($5.80) from Forever 21.  They’ll never go out of style & can protect your eyes in wearing a maxi dress with a crochet vest, or even in a cocktail ready sheath dress.  At the same retailer, you can find the strappy leatherette handbag in dark brown ($29.80), which can be adjusted multiple ways to serve whatever function you need it to! Lastly, the ‘Coreil’ flower embellished peep toe flats ($39.98) are from ALDO, marked down from $50.00.  There, you can also find cute fall-ready flats on clearance for as low as $11.98!

Check out my previous Darling of the Day posts featuring Lea Michele, Miranda Kerr, & Kerry Washington! Would you wear a bow-bedecked blouse like this?  Where do you shop for jeans?  Are you dying over the return of mega-flared jeans?  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: The Black Peep Toes from Payless That’ve Lasted Me All Day!

I haven’t been loyal to any daily readers out there b/c I failed to post a blog for the day, but it’s still Wednesday & I’ve got a little time left & a little something to dish on.  See these shoes here?  I wore them all day today, from 8:30am until 10:00pm.  Of course my work day consisted of a lot of sitting time in my cubicle & then I drove back & forth to Southampton (1hr – 45min each way), so I’m cheating a little bit here. You dan’t deny that that’s a long day of the same pair of heels & I can’t complain one bit about how my feet feel!

I posted their red companion in a Quickie Darling Deal & Steal blog last month about suede shoes @Payless & I’m definitely kicking myself for not getting the red pair when I had the chance.  The sturdy heel & knot detail just scream a little bit Marilyn Monroe & they’re just so easy to add to just about any look.  Back in April, as seen in a Luxury Look-Alikes for Less posting, I was lucky enough to score the nude pair, which have lasted me all summer & into fall so far! They’re by far, my sexiest, most classic looking heels for when I want to be polished, but playful at the same time!

Right now these Fioni ‘Kutie’ knot platform pumps are on sale for $19.99, marked down from $27.99.  If you’ve got too many black shoes & are looking to spice things up with an unexpected pop of color, the navy ones are also on sale.  However, the black is only available in both regular & wide width sizes.

I wanted to share these b/c they were so stylish to go with my work outfit, consisting of a knee-length abstract print black & white pleated bubble skirt that I paired with a patent red Nine West belt & wore a tucked in black tissue tee to help show off my shape.  On top, I finished off my look with a white short-sleeved cardigan & went about my work day, earning a handful of compliments on my ensemble.  After, when I was headed to an Open House @SUNY Southampton for their MFA program (cross your fingers, I applied for the spring), I wanted to sit more comfortably in my car during the long, rainy commute.  So I changed into my dark denim bootcut jeans & a sparkly black long-sleeved cardigan over my untucked tee.  Somehow I had the time this morning to think of bringing my silver & gold braided belt to complete the very dark look.  I feared for the safety of my peep toes b/c it was raining pretty heavily, but now I’m home & they’ve withstood the elements successfully!

Do you have a pair of go-to comfortable heels?  Do you have any Payless stories?  Would you buy & wear these?  Happy Styling!

Fashion Flashback: Michelle Williams Channels Marilyn Monroe for Vogue!

I recently posted (here) about Michelle Williams‘ upcoming role as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn, where she plays the troubled sex symbol during one week of filming The Prince & the Showgirl opposite Laurence Olivier in London in 1957.  I’ve been following as much as I can about the film, which is set to premiere on November 4th. (P.S. My editorial on the classic romantic comedy is coming soon on Movie Buzzers!)

The October issue of Vogue showcases the two-time Academy Award nominee, recreates Marilyn’s bombshell & all-American style in a photo shoot by none other than photographer Anne Leibovitz. Michelle is decked out in gorgeous gowns with plunging necklines, decadent diamonds, & the flip side: classic trousers & sweater sets!

While some critics are skeptical about Michelle’s ability to capture the underestimated comedienne, this film is making its world premiere as a centerpiece selection at the New York Film Festival (see my Movie Buzzers article here).

For more news on Marilyn’s inspiring style, check out a previous post in Fashion Flashback to see Dior’s new commercial, starring Charlize Theron, but thanks to technology, we get to see the ill-fated actress exclaim over the J’adore fragrance with fellow style icons, Marlene Dietrich & Grace Kelly.  Hmmm… so many blondes!  What’s a brunette to do?

What do you think of Michelle’s transformation?  Would you have picked someone different to fill in the infamous heels of the blonde legend?  Are you going to see this movie?  Who’s your favorite Old Hollywood style icon?  Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Earrings by Alexis Bittar Vs. Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s!

I just so happened to be clicking around on the Intermix site, which sells the jaw-droppingly stylish brands like Zac Posen, Diane von Furstenberg, & See by Chloe.  I knew that I hadn’t made a jewelry-based post in a while, so I took a click on over to the earrings & found so many gorgeous luxury pieces by designer, Alexis Bittar.  Personally, I’m not a big earrings Style Darling- I wear my glasses everyday, therefore I stick to studs so that my head doesn’t look too much like a Christmas tree.

Anyway, I found two pairs of chic drops which reminded me of Jennifer Lopez’s line @Kohl’s, for which I’ve written amply about here & on Culture Mob. In looking at the prices of Alexis Bittar’s very elegant earrings, I knew that they were out of reach since I’m on a super tight budget (I’m planning my next trip to Italy in January & I’m in super savings mode- especially after my last dress purchase!).

The concave teardrop earrings are $245.00 & the oval chain link pave crystal earrings in rose gold are $210.00.  While I highly recommend these styles to go with an LBD, blouse & skinny jeans look for a girl’s night, or a cocktail dress for a late-night party, they’re out of budget.  If you’re seeking just as dazzling earrings without the genuine gold price tag, take a look at the gold tone mesh drop earrings on sale for $21.00 (originally $28.00) & rose gold tone simulated crystal drop earrings for $15.00 (originally $20.00), both by Jennifer Lopez for Kohl’s. The latter pair is also available in gold tone & silver tone for the same price too!

Since I’m not quite at the point where I can drop a few hundred dollars on a whim for jewelry, it is nice to look around & see what’s out there.  I receive emails from the official Alexis Bittar website & frequent her fun & fashion forward blog as well.

Check out previous Luxury Look-Alikes for Less posts where you can shop for less expensive items similar to major brands like Dolce Vita, Salvatore Ferragamo, & Kate Spade!

Where do you find your favorite fashion jewelry pieces?  Would you wear rose gold drop earrings?  Do you like Jennifer Lopez’s line for Kohl’s?  Are you familiar with the Alexis Bittar brand?  Give me your feedback & comments! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: My New Favorite (Semi-Formal) LBD!

During what was supposed to be a hunt for bargains at the Tanger Outlet in Riverhead, I had one of those shopping-with-my-bestie-Rosie moments @White House Black Market & decided (with her consent) to try on the same dress that she was trying on, not thinking for a moment that I’d end up getting it!  However, even though I was very tired- trying to fight away a bad sinus infection- I had enough energy to slip into this strapless satin sheath dress, which hugged my curves in all the right ways. It did not fit my shopping companion, so Rosie wished it well for me.  It was very funny when we both stepped out of our dressing rooms, we looked like bridesmaids.  She eventually found a dress for herself (similar to this one), but in this in-the-moment fitting, I fell in love with the flattering simplicity of the pleated dress & just had to bring it home to make friends with my other dresses!

The very enthusiastic fitting room attendant insisted that I try the confection of an LBD on with heels, which only made it worse- but better really.  Seeing how the whole look would come together with dress shoes very similar to my own, I had to have it.  Although the price tag of $89.99 was way more epic more than what I was looking to spend, making a smart investment in a dress that I can wear to any fancy occasion for any season was reason enough for me. After all, the dress was marked down significantly from $168.00!

In addition, I did manage to score a delightful hot pink bubble skirt for $19.99 & a fun lace-trimmed black & white cami for $9.99 (similar to this one) from their front & center sale racks, which made me feel even better about my time spent there.

When you shop at WHBM, if you give them your info at the time of purchase & spend over $300.00, you’re automatically going to receive another 5% off on future purchases.  Perhaps until you spend some other high bracket amount & maybe that percentage will go up? Not sure- I’m not there yet! Every now & again I’ll take the road trip out to the WHBM outlet just for the sales, which are soooo much better than the sale racks at th elocal store in the nearby mall.

I’m attending a wedding of another close friend in a week & even though I wasn’t necessarily looking for a new dress to wear, this little black number is perfect! Since it is starting to get chilly this September, I’ll pair the dress with a cute lace jacket that I bought a while ago from Charlotte Russe– one such jacket that I wore with another darling WHBM floral dress which was purchased last year & worn to 2 other wedding.  Depending on the weather, I’ll break out some pretty textured tights & probably opt for a bright satin heel.  One of these days I’ll get to posting my actual ensembles, but until then…

Are you a WHBM shopper?  Do you have any fun LBD stories?  What’s the most you’d spend on a cocktail dress?  Do you have any go-to dresses for weddings?  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Heidi Klum, Drew Barrymore, & Zooey Deschanel In Glitters, Sparkle, Pastel, Details, Pink, & Pretty at the 2011 Emmy’s (Part Three)!

When it came to glitz, & glamour, the stars were on hand at this year’s Emmy Awards.  There were no details left behind during the red carpet festivities & we learned that the ladies love some sparkle & pastel hues.  In a hodge-podge of images below, we see some of our favorites succeed with their luxury looks & some give it an honorable try.

Jennifer Carpenter wore this blush beaded Tony Ward Couture gown with Martin Katz jewelry.  Cat Deeley went for some super glamour in this gold beaded Monique Lhuillier gown with Bulgari diamonds & a metallic clutch to complete the look.  Taraji P. Henson could’ve used a little help in this embellished Blumarine column gown, although her Fred Leighton drop earrings & cocktail ring helped the look.  Maria Bello glowed in the one-shoulder Kaufmanfranco column gown with a satin clutch & Martin Katz cocktail ring.  Christina Hendricks never shies away from showing off her best assets & this Johanna Johnson gown hugs her curves in all the right ways.  I could’ve done without the slit in the front, but she still looks like a million bucks.  Drew Barrymore took the stage with the new cast of ABC’s Charlie’s Angels in a Givenchy couture gown with Jimmy Choo platforms & gems by Van Cleef & Arpels.

Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss was stunning in this encrusted illusion gown by MarchesaPadma Lakshmi looked golden in this Armani Prive gown with Jimmy Choo sandals & her own jewelry.  Jane Krakowski looked a little over-tanned in this white deep-v gown with a jewel embellishment, but for a lady who recently had a baby, her body looks fantastic.  Kudos to her for showing it off!  The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies puzzled critics in this Armani Prive lampshade-corset white gown with peculiar embellishments.  Heidi Klum supported Project Runway winner Christian Siriano in a custom-made greige (gray / beige) ruffled cocktail dress with colorful jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz & extra high Christian Louboutin heels.  Charlie’s Angels star (& former Grey’s Anatomy doctor) Rachael Taylor made her Emmy’s debut in a memorable way with this iridescent beaded Giorgio Armani column gown with diamonds by Neil Lane.

The stars were also pretty in pink, for example, Modern Family‘s Ariel Winter showed that she’s all grown up in this powdered pink botanical-themed halter dress with diamond flower studs & matching ring by Jamie WolfJayma Mays channeled her inner ballerina in this tiered Zuhair Murad gown with a Swarovski clutch, Brian Atwood shoes, & Neil Lane jewelry & brooch.  Rashida Jones looked ladylike in a pink Alberta Ferretti strapless number with bangles by Van Cleef & Arpels.  Footloose star & former Dancing with the Stars champ Julianne Hough took a risk in this multi-tonal Carolina Herrera gown with jewelry by ForevermarkZooey Deschanel disappointed in this bubble gum pink Monique Lhuillier gown with a red sash. Even though she’s so pretty & stylish, the whole look seemed like a costume.  Anyone agree?

I wanted to feature Raising Hope‘s Martha Plimton in my red-theme Emmy post, but was unable to find an adequate image at the time, so here is she is, looking beyond gorgeous in a curve-hugging sparkly Zac Posen dress.  Elizabeth McGovern wore a merlot-hued sweetheart dress, but I wish that the clutch didn’t blend in so much- something gold would’ve been especially gorgeous against the rich hue.  Hostess of the night, Jane Lynch, turned heads in a strapless David Meister gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.  Sarah Hyland also collaborated with Christian Siriano with Grecian-inspired coral belted dress & Lorraince Schwartz jewelry.  Julia Stiles has never looked better on a red carpet wearing this lavender Georges Hobeika gown with a clutch by Kotur.

We’ve seen dozens of looks from the stars in red, black, blue, & now the paler, sparkly hues… Have you picked your favorite?  Do you think Taraji P. Henson & Zooey Deschanel could do better?  What would you have liked to see them wear on the red carpet?  Happy Styling!

Fashion Flashback: Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, & Grace Kelly’s Cameo in Dior’s New Commerical Starring Charlize Theron!

I had to do a double take when I saw the new commercial for Dior’s J’adore campaign, starring the very beautiful Charlize Theron.  She’s been the spokesmodel for the fragrance for a while now, so it was no surprise to see her at the center of the commercial / short film’s action.  What got me wanting to post about this on Style Darling is the fact that screen legends Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, & Marlene Dietrich appear in the commercial as well.

Marilyn & Grace (yes I’m on a first name basis with them lol) have previously appeared in some form in my Fashion Flashback category, however I can’t help but love that this 1:31 commercial fuses the sirens of the past so naturally with the glamour behind the Dior brand.  Surely, Charlize ranks up there as one of the most gorgeous & accomplished actresses of today.  Here, the house of Dior celebrates the history of fabulous icons of style.

Take a look at the commercial below to see what all the fuss is about.  If you’re interested in buying the fragrance, take a click on over to Ulta, where you can buy a 1.0 oz. bottle for $60.00, 1.7 oz. for $77.00, or 3.4 oz. for $90.00.  Remember, if you’re an Ulta shopper & have a rewards club card, you can earn points to qualify for free gifts like cosmetics, more fragrances, or a salon treatment! Making the investment in a timeless perfume will pay off in the future too!

Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Sale Finds @Topshop ($10 & Under)

It’s been a little while since my last post in The Stylish Five b/c of all the hype surrounding this week’s Emmy Awards, but here I am with five fun picks for $10 or under!

I was checking out the latest sale items @Topshop, when I realized that I needed to do some perfect price point product posting (try saying that 10x fast!).  So why not get ready for next summer with classic espadrille wedges in coral for $10.00?  They’re also available in pink stripe & red polka dot, to coordinate with an eyelet or jersey babydoll dress.  I’m crazy for belts this season (took me long enough, right?) & just love this lace & eyelet belt, which suffice to say, is no longer available, but still worth acknowledging b/c it was also $10.00, marked down from $50.00.  Sad face.

When we talk about investing in next year’s summer wardrobe, finding a delicate shirred jersey sundress in yellow like this for $10.00 is exactly what I’m talking about!  I know my friend, Stacey, will flip over the blue orchid headband for $6.00, a must for any Style Darling with an affinity for hair accessories. It’s all things whimsical & feminine to add to a paisley print tunic top or graphic tee / skinny jeans combo!  If you’re not a headband gal, then try these glass bead hoop earrings for $10.00.  They’re a combination of a classic hoop & drop earring, all in one!

If you’re a bargain hunter like me, be sure to check out my previous posts in The $100 Challenge to see how you can put together an entire look for $100! What’ your favorite Topshop purchase?  How much would you spend on end-of-the-season finds to prepare for next year? Would you wear any of these five picks?  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Bargain Belt & Tasteful Tights Find @Payless!

During a recent trip to Payless, with my special 20% off birthday coupon, I was on the hunt for some basic accessories to help usher in my in-between-seasons wardrobe since the weather isn’t too chilly for layers, but calls for something a little less light.  Make sense?

Well, much to my dismay, there were no BOGO 50% off sales at the time of my visit, but I did manage to score these scroll print tights in black by Minicci for $7.99.  I love the pattern & it’ll go so well with my tweed skirts for the office or an LBD for a cocktail occasion.  They’re available in sizes small, medium, & large & are the perfect addition to any mini skirt & knee boots look when you don’t really wanna show off too much skin.

Also, while I was there, I was looking for another basic, yet chic belt that I could wear with chunky pullover sweaters or with a flyaway cardigan to help cinch in my waist.  The wide stretch belt in black by Minicci was on sale from $12.99 to $7.99! I love the subtle hardware look on the face of the belt, which would juxtapose so nicely against something lace or pastel.

By the time it came to ring me up, I saved over $13.00 with my coupon & the sale price for the belt, so I didn’t fret too much about not benefiting from the store’s usually fabulous BOGO 50% off sale.  What are your recent bargain finds?  What do you love to shop for @Payless?  Where do you get your most fashionable belts & tights?  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review / Color Me Style: A Brilliant Black & Blue Takeover at the Emmy’s Featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Claire Danes, Dianna Agron, & More (Part Two)!

I previously stated that red was the color of the night for the 2011 Emmy Awards, but red was given some serious competition with the ladies wearing different shades of blue & varying styles of exquisite black gowns!  There’s just so much to talk about with these looks, proving that even the most classic or daring silhouettes can rival on the red carpet!

Although they say that black doesn’t photograph well… These Style Darlings prove otherwise! First, Michelle Forbes, star of The Killing definitely killed in a black Romona Keveza strapless gown with a fitted bodice.  Winner Julie Bowen took a plunge in a black metallic sequin-embellished column dress by Oscar de la Renta.  She’s never looked better, especially with those stunning Neil Lane earrings!  Kaley Cuoco’s retro polka Romona Keveza dress was by far my favorite black dress, especially with the polka dot netting & red satin peep toes & Judith Leiber clutch.  Fringe star Anna Torv went for a classic old Hollywood look in a black Vera Wang gown with Lorraine Schwartz earrings & navy Roger Vivier shoes.  Boardwalk Empire star Gretchen Mol kept its simple & elegant in a sweetheart L’Wren Scott silk gown with emerald Fred Leighton jewelry.  Glee bad girl, Naya Rivera showed off her figure in a sculpted black dress with corset bodice.

Gwyneth Paltrow caused quite a stir in her two-piece Emilio Pucci beaded gown with Roger Vivier sandals & Neil Lane jewelry.  Evan Rachel Wood looked simply gorgeous in a beaded Elie Saab gown.  She was nominated for her outstanding performance in Mildred Pierce, but turned heads with her Fred Leighton jewelry, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, & Judith Leiber clutch.  Jenna Ushkowitz went for a black & white Ghadah Paris gown with Casadei shoes & obviously got the memo about carrying a Judith Leiber clutch.  Lena Headey covered up in a black brocade long-sleeved gown with a belt, Brian Atwood heels & a Judith Leiber clutch.  Kelly Macdonald tastefully showed off some skin in a sheer Stella McCartney gown with Jimmy Choo sandals.

As for the ladies in blue, navy was the most popular shade, but turquoise & royal were also embraced.  Kyle Richards wore a pleated royal blue mermaid gown with drop earrings, a cocktail ring, & caged diamond bracelet.  Cobie Smulders of How I Met Your Mother was bright in an aquamarine Alberta Ferretti gown with Neil Lane drop earrings, Brian Atwood shoes, & a clutch by Rene Caovilla.  Last year’s winner, Claire Danes, went for stuck to her favorite column silhouette in a sequin-embroidered Oscar de la Renta gown with Irit jewelry & pumps by Barbara Bui platforms.  Dianna Agron took a risk in this Roksanda Ilincic fishtail gown, but looked stunning with her Fred Leighton jewelry & clutch by Roger Vivier.  Funny lady Amy Poehler channeled this year’s Oscar look worn by Amy Adams in the short-sleeved all-over blue gown by Peter Som with drop earrings by Martin Katz.

Charlie’s Angels star Minka Kelly donned a vintage-inspired navy & black lace Christian Dior gown with Tiffany & Co. jewelry & Barbara Bui sandals.  The X-Factor judge Paula Adbul looked adorable in a navy embellished Simeen gown with Martin Katz jewelry.  Nominee Diane Lane looked fantastic in a navy Monique Lhuillier crystal-encrusted gown with Cathy Waterman jewelry.  Glee girl, Heather Morris wasn’t afraid of this tiered plunging gown with gold dangly earrings.  Emily Blunt showed the best in blue in a deep-v Elie Saab creation with a Kelly Locke clutch & Brian Atwood sandals.  One star that could’ve done better was Katie Holmes in this crepe Calvin Klein Collection belted dress.

Be sure to check back for my Emmy red carpet coverage & our post about the fabulous red gowns worn by celebrities like Sofia Vergara, Lea Michele, & Kate Winslet!  Who was your favorite of the night?  Who do you think his all the wrong notes?  Which dress do you covet? Happy Styling!

Silver Screen Style: Sarah Jessica Parker & Friends in ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’!

In Sarah Jessica Parker‘s new movie, I Don’t Know How She Does It, she plays a working mom who loves her job & family with a passion.  I recently wrote on Movie Buzzers about the movie that opened this past weekend, based on the best-selling novel by Allison Pearson.

I’m so happy to SJP back on the big screen, especially during all the press & promotional events for this film b/c we get to see our favorite Sex & the City star out & about & very stylish!  I’ve included a bunch of stills from the new movie, which also stars Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear, Christina Hendricks, Olivia Munn, Kelsey Grammar, & Busy Philipps.

What I love about some of these images is that the characters are wearing outfits that aren’t high-fashion, but very wearable for a career gal.  Some of my favorite stores to shop for workwear include New York & Company, LOFT, Ann Taylor, The Limited, Gap, & Target. I like to find pieces that are both neutral, but still flattering to my shape.  I don’t want to look too stuffy or that I’m hiding my style.  For Style Darlings on a budget, you’d be swapping out pencil skirts, blouses, trousers, & pumps on a day-to-day basis to keep your look fresh & here’s where accessories (in moderation, of course) can really work to your outfit’s advantage!

Here we see SJP wearing lots of gray, beige, & black. Her character, Kate, is often traveling across the country & she needs to wear pieces that are both easy to pack & catch for her meetings & work events.

Look at pretty Christina Hendricks is even in modern-day attire like a tweed  coat, dark red leather gloves, soft curls, & a fashionable handbag!

Check out the movie’s trailer too!

Check out our last post on Silver Screen Style featuring images from Michelle Williams’ upcoming role as Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn.  What are your favorite styles from movies? Where do you like to shop for office attire?  What are your favorite go-to pieces that you can wear as a mom-on-the-go?  Happy Styling!

Color Me Style / Red Carpet Review: Ravishing Red for Kate Winslet, Nina Dobrev, & More at the 2011 Emmy’s (Part One)!

At this week’s 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, RED was the color to wear on the red carpet!  Sometimes red is a tricky color to wear b/c you could blend in, but none of these ladies went unnoticed!  I don’t think I’ve ever seen red look so good, especially on these stars who play with shades of apple, crimson, scarlet, & cherry!

Adrianne Palicki went for a vintage starlet feel in a sweetheart halter gown with a high slit, keeping her hair simple with elegant diamonds.  Connie Britton showed that you don’t have to be twenty years old to look exquisite on the red carpet, in a flowing chiffon gown with drop earrings & bangles.  Lea Michele revealed to E! that she wanted to keep her look simple, but this Marchesa column gown is super chic & flattering on the petite actress with a big voice.  Her straightened hair is the perfect finishing touch to such a glamorous & effortless look.  Kerry Washington presented in a strapless Zuhair Murad gown with a matching clutch & pair of heels by the one & only, Jimmy Choo.

Nina Dobrev made a splash in this red Donna Karan gown with accented diamonds by Neil Lane, a Judith Leiber clutch, & Brian Atwood stilettos.  Sofia Vergara was one of the most talked about nominees & definitely wowed in a scarlet Vera Wang curve-hugging gown with Colombian emerald chandelier earrings.  And last, but not least, Kate Winslet, my favorite nominee of the night, looked polished in a red form-fitting Elie Saab gown with a soft updo & diamond drop earrings.

Check out our previous Red Carpet Review posts, as well as the fun color-themed posts in Color Me Style!  Who wore red the best? Who was your favorite winner of the night?  Be sure to check back this week while I post more & more about Sunday night’s ceremony! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: A Free Beauty Gift from Sephora!

My birthday was quite a few days ago now (which I decided to pass on for personal reasons), however, I do love reaping the benefits as a loyal patron of some of my favorite stores for when they send me discounts, rewards, & free items just b/c it’s my birthday.

I don’t usually shop @Sephora (only b/c I find such great deals @Ulta), but I received such a fun & lovely free gift from Sephora, just for signing up for their emails.  Because I gave them my information, including my birthdate, all I had to do was print out the email & bring it to the register.

While there were so many items that I wanted to buy, receiving something substantial like a 16 ounce-bottle of shampoo / bubble bath / shower gel was the icing on the cake!  The flavor is so sweet, yet subtle: vanilla birthday cake. It costs $16.00 too! I saved that much money that I could use towards gas (well, not a whole tank) or for a pair of shoes on sale at the Payless right next to the Sephora in my local mall!

I can’t take all the credit for knowing this little birthday surprise from the beauty giant b/c my good friend Laurie (check out the blog I dedicated to her!) informed me about the very special deal just weeks before my first day as a 28-year-old.  What’s the best gift item that you’ve received from a store?  How many different sites do you receive emails from?  What’s your favorite scent for bath items?  Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Suede Ankle Boots by Dolce Vita Vs. Forever 21 Boots Under $30!

I’m definitely a boot girl & I love a boot with some platform too.  Of course, this isn’t necessarily safe for an icy winter night, but we all suffer for fashion in some way or another, don’t we?  I haven’t posted in Luxury Look-Alikes for Less in a while, but these were the first ones I found in a very quick search.  I love finding a bargain look-alike, especially one with a price difference of over $200!

If you’re browsing around Neiman Marcus, ready to drool over the gorgeous, expensive fashions, then you’ve probably seen the Dolce Vita suede platform boot for $245.00.  They have a 5″ heel & are also available in hot pink! Yes, these are made in Italy & deserve all the acclaim for being fabulous, but is this a budget-friendly investment?

Enter Forever 21‘s suedette ankle boot with a 5.5″ heel.  They cost a mere $27.80 & although these are in grey, they’re still equally as fashionable as their black & pink luxury counterparts.

What would you wear these with?  Is the super high platform too scary for you?  How much would you spend on boots like these? Check out our previous Luxury Look-Alikes for Less posts, including cap-toe pumps, jewelry, & plaid tops! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Toronto Film Festival Featuring Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox, Freida Pinto, & More!

Tis the season for film festivals, which means that not only are we celebrating the latest slew of must-see major & independent films, but the stars are supporting their work with some fabulous fashions! At various events for the 2011 Toronto Film Festival, we saw many stylish cocktail & formal looks from some of our favorite Style Darlings!

Kate Mara looked radiant in a black overlay Christian Dior dress with nude pumps & a messy side braid.  This season’s it-girl Jessica Chastain accented her porcelain skin with a gold dress by Derek Lam & ankle-strap sandals by Tory BurchMarisa Tomei wore a geometric print dress by Proenza Schouler & carried a Stark clutch. My favorite part of this look is the halfway-to-the-knee strappy sandals. Evan Rachel Wood continued her androgynous menswear streak in a pinstripe suit by Dolce & Gabbana.

Long lost Megan Fox showed up in a red hot Thakoon ruched dress with leopard print Brian Atwood ankle-strap pumps & a gold David Webb ring. Freida Pinto brought the sparkle in a blush Valentino dress with Jimmy Choo sandals & a mirrored Roger Vivier clutch.  Last, but not the least, the festival’s best dressed star was Angelina Jolie who wore this black cowl Vivienne Westwood gown at the Moneyball premiere with a Louis Vuitton clutch & Stuart Weitzman satin shoes.

If you haven’t already, check out the two-part post of the Venice Film Festival here & here! Who’s wearing your favorite look? Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Eva Longoria Hosts the 2011 ALMA Awards!

We haven’t seen Eva Longoria in a while, but she definitely made a splash at this year’s ALMA awards, as cohost with George Lopez & honored recipient! Take a look at the images below to see her four gown transformations, as well as other nominees & her Desperate Housewives co-stars who showed up to lend their support.

The one-shoulder lilac gown accentuated the glow of Eva’s skin & smile, but I think my favorite part of the look is her gorgeous drop earrings.  Next, she accepted her award in a sexy, slinky black Moniqe Lhuillier high slit gown with over-the-top hair & jewel embellished high heels.  The details in the burgundy pleated Goldsmith & Klein gown was polished & glamorous, especially with her sleek ponytail.  For the red carpet, Eva donned a lush, coral Oscar de Renta gown with drop earrings & another height-friendly bouffant.

Comic Aubrey Plaza choose a structured LWB with sky-high black satin pumps (I want!).  Alexa Vega kept with the busy bodice trend wearing a white & silver tied gown with a gold miniaudiere & a black-tipped manicure.  Marcia Cross was regal in a navy lace sweetheart gown with a matching sash & clutch by SwarovskiFelicity Huffman posed in a chic LBD dress with a pop of orange at the bust & classic peep toe pumps. Demi Lovato looked like a princess in a blush Maria Lucia Hohan gown with a twisted bodice, showing off some skin. Glee siren Naya Rivera stood tall in a metallic column gown & nude platforms.  Jessica Alba was all-smiles in a post-baby body-conscious belted Michael Kors gown with elegant House of Lavande jewelry.

There’s so much going on right now in Hollywood & we’re on the cusp of award’s season, so stay tuned with all the latest celebrity trends by checking out Red Carpet Review! Who wore your favorite look?  Does Eva always get it right?  Happy Styling!

9/13/11 Darling of the Day: Lea Michele’s Jason Wu Look Recreated from Dillards, Avenue, & Payless!

Lea Michele showed up during Fashion Week to help support the designs of Jason Wu, wearing an ensemble by the brand with Brian Atwood pumps.  This look is so easy to recreate & I actually do it everyday for work!

As usual, I’ve featured the look in plus & women’s sizes because it’s universally figure-flattering! An a-line skirt allows you to emphasize the smallest par of your waist, creating that bombshell hourglass shape!  Skirts like the abstract plaid from OneStopPlus for $22.99 & the black & white floral print from Dillards are perfect examples of modern patterns in an a-line that will transform your look from everyday to polished.  Also, the floral print skirt is marked down from $58.00 to $34.80!

A scoop neck black tee like those selected from Avenue for $19.99 & The Gap which costs $12.50 are the basic foundation pieces to any stylish look with a bold print.

As for the shoes, classic round toe pumps like these from Payless will help elongate the legline, while also complimenting the busy print in the skirt. The sale price of $19.99 from $27.99 doesn’t hurt either!

I picked two different textured clutches, a metallic leopard clutch ($16.50) from Charlotte Russe & a green patent croc clutch from Payless ($14.99) to show how the careful mixing of these textures can add dimension to your outfit, while also matching in an unexpected way. And last, but not least, Lea is wearing two cocktail rings, so I picked two that are both edgy & feminine to wear on each hand.  The adjustable spike ring for $4.80 & rhinestone filigree ring for $5.80 are both from Forever 21!  If you’re seeking to replicate Lea’s side-pinned bangs, I even picked out a cute set of bobby pins from Ulta for $2.62!

Do you wear tops tucked into skirts like this?  Are you into bold graphic print skirts?  Would you wear this outfit?  Check out our previous Darling of the Day posts featuring Glee guest-star Gwyneth Paltrow & everybody’s favorite guidance counselor Jayma Mays! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Start Layering With Sale Tops From ESPRIT!

Since the weather is changing (at least here in New York it is!), it’s time to start swapping out some of the pieces in your closet for heaviers once, but what’s so great about now is that you can mix & match your tops & tanks to layer them!  I recently checked out the sale section on ESPRIT & so many tops on sale & the ones that I’ve selected are all under $30.00.  Now, before you say that $30.00 is too much for a sale top, just hear me out!  A tee shirt or a basic tank is something that you will always need.  Whether you wanna rock your new bomber jacket or break out your boyfriend blazer & skinny jeans for a night out with the girls, tops like these are the pieces that build those outfits.

Take your favorite button down shirt & throw a tee over with a fancy brooch, or try once of these tanks under your favorite cardigan with a bubble skirt! The brighter shades are perfect for that pop of color for underneath, heavy sweaters, or use the pastel ones to soften a look with heavy sweater tights & knee boots!

In a wide variety of colors, from your basic neutrals to brighter, bolder shades, there’s plenty to choose from.  Don’t think for a minute that there are only solids on this site b/c as you can see, I have a striped top, but there are also plenty of floral & graphic print tops to choose from too!  If you scroll your mouse over the image below, you can see all the names, colors, & prices of the tops to decide for yourself.

Silver Screen Style: Michelle Williams (& More) as Marilyn Monroe in “My Week With Marilyn!”

I’ve been covering the very exciting details for the new movie, My Week with Marilyn, for quite a while over on Movie Buzzers (a movie news site for which I also write).  There are so many images out right now, showing the staggering similarity between Marilyn’s long lost features and the two-time Academy Award nominee, Michelle Williams who is starring as the legendary sex symbol.

The movie follows a 1957 Monroe for one week during her London filming of The Prince & The Showgirl alongside & under the direction of Sir Laurence Olivier (played by Kenneth Branaugh).  Also starring in the film is Tony-winner Eddie Redmayne as Colin Clark, the assistant who is documenting the entire week. The cast could not be complete without Dougray Scott as Marilyn’s third husband, Arthur Miller, Julia Ormond as Olivier’s wife-at-the-time Vivien Leigh, Dame Judi Dench as actress Dame Sybil Thorndike, Derek Jacobi as Sir Owen Morshead, Emma Watson as Colin’s love interest Lucy, and Dominic Cooper as Milton Greene.

I wanted to share these images b/c I love seeing Marilyn’s style during her very short & underestimated career.  Looking at these also help pass the time for the My Week with Marilyn finally premieres on November 4th.  When a trailer comes out, I’ll definitely be posting it.

Look at the striking similarities between the black & picture of Marilyn Monroe & Arthur Miller vs. a movie still of Michelle Williams & Dougray Scott!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Venice Film Festival Part Two Featuring Gwyneth Paltrow, Keira Knightley, & More!!

More stars have come out in support of their films which were specially selected for a screening or premiere at the 2011 Venice Film Festival.  If you didn’t stop by earlier in the week, then you missed our post featuring Kate Winslet, Evan Rachel Wood, & Marisa Tomei, but click here to check out all the fashionable duds worn by these stylish celebs!

Jessica Chastain is one of my favorite new up & coming actresses, especially after her performance in The Help. However, at the festival, the actress (who has SEVEN films coming out this year) appeared at the premiere of Wild Salmone in a  cap sleeve backless gown from Elie Saab with very delicate diamond accented jewelry.  During a photo call for the film, she went with a bold red dress to bring out her red bangs, with nude platform heels.  She even took home an award for Outstanding Artistic Achievement wearing a one-shoulder black Gucci resort gown with satin heels.

Dark Horse star Selma Blair showed off her post-baby body in two of the seasons most fashionable colors.  First she showed off a demure red caftan gown by Lanvin and followed it up with a bright emerald Roland Mouret dress with patent leather heels.  Gwyneth Palrow supported Contagion in a belted tangerine Prada dress with floral Nicholas Kirkwood peep toes.  The Oscar winner was stunning in a blush Prada gown with a Cipria Raso clutch & Bvlgari earrings.

Last time, we saw a lot of the festival’s darling, Abbie Cornish, but here she is again in a paneled pullover & navy trousers with peep toe heels.  Doesn’t she look like a younger mix between Charlize Theron & Maria Bello?! Then this custom-made colorblock gown by Gucci with clutch & pumps by Roger Vivier might just be my favorite look from the entire event!

Keira Knightley kept her movie star look in a Orla Kiely Resort 2012 navy shirt dress with gold buttons.  She accessorized her daytime look with Ralph Lauren sunglasses & Tabitha Simmons ‘Evie’ camel loafers.  For the red carpet, she choose a gold & beige long-sleeved Valentino couture gown with nothing but a part down the middle & pink lipstick!

Last, but not least Salma Hayek-Pinault made an appearance at the 2011 Gucci Award For Women In Cinema event, wearing a gorgeous crystal-embellished Gucci Première gown with a simple clutch & Old Hollywood updo.  Madonna also continued her sunglasses-at-night look, but showed up in a 40’s-inspired, black georgette long-sleeved evening gown with a metal & gold belt by Gucci.

Who do you think has stolen the spotlight at the Venice Film Festival?  Which of the selected films are you most looking forward to seeing?  To keep up with all the best red carpet looks, check out all posts for Red Carpet Review.  Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: A Casual, Comfortable Chic Look for Fall (Dedicated to Erin)!

My friend, Erin, recently told me that she was troubled with finding a balance of comfort in her clothing, while still looking chic & casual.  Sometimes the fuss of too many accessories or a constricting belt & tight pants may make a casual look appear super stylish, but for the Style Darling wearing it, it probably doesn’t feel like the comfy sweatpants we all love to slip into after a long day working.  So, my goal for this edition of The $100 Challenge is to put together a look that could be described as comfy chic, dedicated to my favorite Mid-West dwelling Style Darling, Erin.

Since the seasons are changing & Erin is in Minnesota, she needs some layers to keep her warm, but at the same time, she’s a busy independent woman who needs to look stylish at all times. Some people look at ponchos are glorified snuggies, but this stylish poncho from H&M for $19.95 is adjustable, so you can show your figure, while taking advantage of the luxe, neutral shade to go with your jeggings or wide leg jeans.  If you’re not an earth-tone gal, the poncho also comes in black, available in sizes extra small to large. You can just throw it on when you’re feeling a chill, rather than trying to coordinate a jacket with a scarf & then adding a belt to cinch in your waist. Underneath the heavy knit is a draped sleeveless top from The Gap, which serves as a flattering base to any outfit with a blazer & pencil for a job interview, or with striaght leg jeans & suedewedges. The top is currently on sale for $18.99 from $29.95.

To me, when I think of comfy, I think of elastic. I mean, who wants to fuss with buttons, clasps, & snaps to fit into something, especially if you’re doing a lot of moving around?  Not I.  I’m not sure if Erin is a leggings girl (I am not, but I think they look really good with a tunic top of appropriate booty-covering length).  You can find leggings just about anywhere, but these black leggings from Forever 21 are only $4.50 & come in 8 other colors, including royal blue, navy, dark gray, & eggplant for your choosing. That’s a bargain & talk about variety!

I selected two different pairs of shoes, ballet flats & boots, b/c this look can instantly switch from minimalist preppy to polished urban depending one which shoe you go with.  The metallic flats cost $12.50, also available in all black, pewter, or navy. The patent adds a surprise pop of shine to the outfit, but also the delicate bow makes the look much more feminine & glamorous.  As for the plaid cuff boots from Payless, we’re heading into Sienna Miller / Alexa Chung style territory, for $39.99. You can tie them all the way up to cover the end of the leggings or fold them down to show off the plaid details.  Sometimes it’s all in the smallest details!

With so many big pieces going on here, I picked out two simple pieces of jewelry.  Since the poncho has some bulk to it & clearly doesn’t allow for a necklace, I picked out pearl studs with a rhinestone casing.  If you’re busy & on-the-go with your hair tied back, these soft studs will frame your face perfectly!  Also, the cutout flower ring adds some more detail & can be worn as a go-to cocktail ring for a variety of affairs.  Not to mention that both of these pieces only cost $3.80 each!

Part of what I love about the ring is how it’ll bring out the pattern in the CALYPSO St. Barth for Target tote.  It’s currently on sale for $6.98 (WOW!), marked down from $19.99, also available in turquoise. I thought that the brown looked a little more fall-appropriate & not so much like a beach bag.  The bag looks to be in proportion to the rest of the look.  Sometimes I hate seeing the skinny girls in their super tight jeans & tops carrying an oversized handbag, which looks to be weighing them down.

Of course the bag can also carry either pair of shoes that you choose, in case you need to switch, but I’ve done the math & if you only pick one pair of shoes for the outfit, your total will cost either $70.52 or $98.01, before whatever taxes exist wherever you are, of course.

Do you think this outfit is comfy chic?  What items of apparel do you own that you love to wear when you’re out & about & don’t want the fuss of heels & something form-fitting?  How much would spend on pieces like these?  What’s your fall go-to piece? Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: 2011 Venice Film Festival Featuring Kate Winslet, Abbie Cornish, Madonna, & More!

At this year’s Venice Film Festival, the stars walked the red carpet, made appearances at screenings, & promoted their films in pure style.  There were some very exciting style surprises, as well as back-to-back hits on the red carpet.  Menswear inspiration, minimalism, vintage Hollywood, & sleek separates were among the trends dominating the fashion world right now. Among these stars were Marisa Tomei, Kate Winslet, Diane Kruger, Madonna, Keira Knightley, Cindy Crawford, Bar Rafaeli, Abbie Cornish, & Evan Rachel Wood.

Marisa Tomei, co-star to George Clooney & Ryan Gosling in Ides of March, was colorful, wearing a sheath dress by Erdem, an embellished top with an orange Preen skirt, & a pearl-accented neon yellow draped Marios Schwab gown.  And then there was Kate Winslet, the unofficial spokesmodel for chic.  The Carnage star wowed in a mocha Victoria Beckham dress with strappy Jimmy Choo sandals.  Then for day, she chose a classic LBD with a gray blazer, thick-strapped sandals, & House of Lavande‘s Panetta gold & diamante bracelet.  She once again stole the show in a stretch cotton multi-colored Stella McCartney dress with drop earrings & peep toe pumps at the Mildred Pierce premiere.  Then for another day event, she kept her all-black ensemble simple with a tank, shorts, a blazer, & the same peep toes!

Younger up and coming stars like Abbie Cornish turned some heads with this ombre silk organza tiered Atelier Versace stunner.  For a more movie star-esque day look, the W.E. star continued to earn raves in this Elie Saab a-line LBD with polished touches of gold in the House of Lavande choker.  Abbie isn’t shy when it comes to print either, as we can see in the keyhole maxi dress while attending the Venice Film Festival’s Movie Star Lounge.

Also making a splash, especially with the menswear trend was Evan Rachel Wood who’s shown above a whopping four times, just like her Mildred Pierce co-star, Kate Winslet.  She suited up in an outfit by Dolce & Gabbana with Salvatore Ferragamo houndstooth pumps (which I just drooled over on the Nordstrom website, for $950.00!).  Then she brought new meaning to shirtdress with this flowing white Alessandra Rich design with jewel-studded black ankle strap heels.  Then she returned to her black & white suit look, but with a vest over a feminine white blouse with some serious black Christian Louboutin pumps.

Diane Kruger stepped out in a textured Chanel dress with a matching striped clutch, but kept her German-girl-next-door look with a messy side braid.  Then she stepped up her look in this Grecian-inspired cascading nude Elie Saab bustier gown.  Madonna also made an appearance in support of her directorial debut, W.E., wearing a black & white L’Wren Scott dress with a gold cross & platform pumps by Yves Saint Laurent.  To show that she’s still got it, Madonna choose a custom-made butterfly-embellished Vionnet dress with Miu Miu sunglasses for the film’s premiere.

Also, Keira Knightley stepped off a gondola in a printed Mary Katrantzou dress for a photocall for A Dangerous MethodCindy Crawford proved that you don’t have to be a movie star to look like one in one-shoulder Roberto Cavalli gown with Chopard jewelry.  And last but not least, model / actress Bar Rafaeli opted for a lace-paneled jumpsuit by Emilio Pucci.

Who do you think was the best dressed during the festival?  Did Madonna get it right with all those butterflies?  Was Evan Rachel Wood too bland in black & white?  Do you think Kate Winslet stole the show?  Check out our last Red Carpet Review post with a look at The Help‘s Jessica Chastain & some of the best looks from the Cannes Film Festival back in May!  Happy Syling!
