If you’re going to make an showstopping entrance at one of fashion’s biggest nights, like Rihanna, you’d better do it in style! Wearing a dramatic Valentino Haute Couture silk dress with cape & hundreds of camellia petals, Rihanna did just that at Monday night’s Met Gala, honoring Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Alongside Gucci-bedecked partner A$AP Rocky, the pregnant superstar wowed the cream carpet arriving fashionably late, after 10pm. The wait was worth it!
Has Rihanna ever looked more beautiful? The bold red lip! The gloves! The layers of jewels!
A few weeks ago, I was taking a quick walk through my local Macy’s & was stopped & stunned to find these:
The Karl Lagerfeld Paris Carlisle pump in black (on sale: $118.30) floored me! I’m not a major name brand shopper—I’m more of an admirer from a far. However, I couldn’t help myself, gawking mouth agape & all, thinking of the kind of life a woman wearing these shoes must live. Then, my mind went into a tailspin of styling possibilities: a tailored suit with a bow-neck blouse, cocktail dress for New Year’s Eve, a fit & flare dress with a leather jacket for date night, or a tunic sweater & studded jeggings. No matter the style, these are fierce shoes, going on my wishlist! Truth be told, I’ll likely never actually purchase them, fearing my budget-oriented voice of reason would judge & guilt me over all the other ways I could have invested my money… Oh well!
It’s been another crazy week, both personally & professionally, but things are starting to look up. Thankfully, there’s Paris Fashion Week to keep this Style Darling a little bit perkier. The weekend red carpet wowed with stunning looks at this year’s Academy Awards, but what’s even bigger is the latest from Chanel that hit the runway across the pond.
Thanks to the above video from YouTube, courtesy of Chanel‘s very stylish channel, we’re able to gush & gasp at the lush looks, some of which have already been modeled by the likes of Rihanna & Keira Knightley. Aside from the waist-cinching, layered looks, fabulous faces like Cara Delevingne & Kendall Jenner were spotted strutting their stuff in support of Karl Lagerfeld‘s latest designs!
Which looks were your favorites from the collection? Have you been following any specific designers this season? What trends have you spotted on the runway? Happy Styling!
When I hear about Chanel, I think immediately about the legendary designer, as portrayed in films in like Coco Before Chanel, & how A-listers today interpret the brand for modern-day red carpet appearances & showing off their street style. Also, I’ve been following a lot from the fashion house, including their latest Fall 2013 Haute Couture collection, & now, the latest news that actress Diane Krugeris the new face of Chanel’s skincare line, as well as the brand’s ambassador.
The elegant ad showcases the German import’s natural beauty for La Commence La Beauté, which features day & night creams. Chanel recently released a statement about choosing Diane to represent the brand: “Attracted by her sophistication and artistic spirit, the House of Chanel chose her for its Allure fragrance advertising campaign, then again for the Paris-Biarritz handbag advertising campaign, shot by Karl Lagerfeld… Now an ambassadress for Chanel, Diane Kruger will be the face of a new skincare advertising campaign, due to be unveiled in 2013.”
My personal nail art style includes anything sparkly or metallic. I’ve been working so much this later-spring / early-summer already, I have to keep my nails short, which means that I’m looking for a lot of neutral metallic shades, like a glittery rose gold & other non-matte shades. However, it’s these classic hues that are the focus of the latest video from Chanel, called Couleurs Culte de Chanel.
The 30-second feature includes the legendary Chanel logo, as represented through nail colors like Pirate, Particuliere, & Rouge Noir. Each lacquer whether bold & bright or sleek & neutral costs $27.00 a bottle at the brand’s official website. To shop more beauty products from Chanel, be sure to check out Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, & Neiman Marcus.
It’s resort season & Chanelhas shared its 2014 collection! Full with a runway of nautical stripes, Gatsby-inspired strands of pearls, menswear separates, & plenty of black chiffon for the next major red carpet event. Karl Lagerfeld has certainly outdone himself once again, honoring the legendary of Coco Chanel herself, especially with regal touches like striped ties, cropped jackets, & lace overlay.
Some of you may already know that I share my online writing time with a film news & reviews website, Movie Buzzers, which has also served readers here on Style Darling. One such story includes the new trailer for the fashion documentary, Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s. The Matthew Miele-directed documentary offers a behind-the-scenes look at the ins & outs of one of New York City’s most iconic centers for fashion, Bergdorf Goodman. The title comes from cartoonist Victoria Roberts, whose caption from a classic Bergdorf-obsessed cartoon in New Yorker put all other retailers under par. There are plenty of famous faces talking about, including designers like Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld, wrap-dress genius Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA Lifetime Achievement Award-winner American Michael Kors, shoe-God Christian Louboutin, among countlessly accomplished and glamorous others. Also, personalities like Joan Rivers, designer / celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe, Sex & the City costume designer Patricia Fields, and actress Susan Lucci all share their experiences of high-profile exposure at the retailer’s central location on 5th Avenue. In addition to these famous faces, the documentary also includes a look at legendary personal shopper, Betty Halbreich, an 85-year-old employee of Bergdorf Goodman since 1976.
When I was sifting through my Twitter feed (@MissAlissaL) this morning, I was surprised to learn that today marks the 129th birthday of the one & only Coco Chanel. The blogosphere is a embracing the day with #CocoChanelDay attached to every tweet, so I thought that today would be the perfect day to debut my latest category here on Style Darling, Designer’s Best. I’ve searched high & low to find some of the most fabulous looks by Chanel that have been worn by some of our favorite celebrities like Alexa Chung, Blake Lively, Emma Stone, Jennifer Aniston, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, & many more!
There have been quite a few videos coming out lately from big designers like Givenchy, Marni for H&M, & Christian Siriano. The latest & perhaps most beautiful to join the arsenal of fashionable videos is the Karl Lagerfeld-directed short film “The Tale of a Fairy,” for Chanel‘s 2012 Cruise collection. Perhaps the dialogue & story aren’t the most cinematically impressive, but you can’t deny that it’s a visually exciting with sleek, clean line & is a fitting, yet classic homage to the original icon of the fabulous French brand, Coco Chanel. I personally love the layered pearl necklaces, menswear inspiration, oversized sunglasses, & black & white ensembles. Who doesn’t???

The name Karl Lagerfeld is synonymous with luxury fashion, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to proudly own & wear a design by the legendary talent. Prices range from $50 -$170, but if you wait for the right sale & take advantage of your Macy’s cardholder rewards, these very chic & modern looks can be yours for a steal! Which is your favorite look of the ones shown above? I’m kind of crazy for the navy belted dress with those awesome tights! That screams out for fall & some suede ankle booties! Maybe I wouldn’t be sporting the cutoff leather gloves, but I can definitely see all of the dresses for a day at the office & mixed up with some metallic or patent accessories to dress up for cocktail hour!
