Red Carpet Review: Jayma Mays Promoting ‘The Smurfs’!

I’m totally loving all the latest images (courtesy of In Style) of Glee star Jayma Mays, who is currently promoting her newest film, The Smurfs.  She’s got that girl-next-door thing down, but knows how to keep it classy & sexy.

Jayma shows off her legs in a bright green Reem Acra mini dress with Ferragamo pumps, BaubleBar earrings & a Judith Leiber clutch at the film’s New York premiere. While filming a segment for the Young Hollywood Studio in Los Angeles, the perky actress donned a casual orange & white striped belted dress with layers of chains. During an event at Confederacy in L.A., Jayma sports head-to-toe Rebecca Minkoff, including a belted blue blazer, & purple mini skirt. Upon arrive in NY, she made an appearance at a mock Smurfs village in Central Park wearing a Rebecca Minkoff blouse & shorts with Aldo pumps & Jamie Wolf earrings. Lastly, while at the Empire State Building with co-star Neil Patrick Harris, wearing a Tibi blazer & shorts with a Polo Ralph Lauren shirt, & Aldo pumps.

Luxury Look-Alikes For Less: Super Strappy Black Gladiator Sandals from Barneys Vs. Mandee!

If you’re looking for some super sexy strappy black gladiator sandals for a cocktail dress or your favorite little black dress, then check these out!  However, I was soooo enchanted by a pair from Barney’s, but couldn’t get past the $675.00 price tag.  Naturally this is b/c the brand of the ‘Zaira’ is Loeffler Randall, which is also available @Zappos, Neiman Marcus, Singer 22, & Nordstrom.

However, as a Style Darling on a budget, check out Mandee for these four-inch strappy cone heel sandals.  They only cost $15.00 & while the two pairs of sandals are not identical, they’re pretty close in concept.  Think about how much you buy for $675 & why in the world would you want to spend that much on one pair of shoes (unless of course money was not an issue)?

When I look for shoes, it’s all about getting the most for my money.  As a regular on the Mandee website & in their stores, I’ve found their shoe selection very reliable in comfort & style.  Not to mention all the discount rewards you can earn just for having the store’s credit card! Check out previous Luxury Look-Alikes for Less posts for more great affordable & stylish finds! Happy Styling!

7/29/11 Darling of the Day: Kristen Stewart Casual in Converse @Comic Con!

At this week’s Comic Con, Twilight star Kristen Stewart showed off her edgy / casual style in a tissue tee by Market, with a black bra, skinny jeans, & her favorite pair of Converse sneakers.  I wouldn’t recommend this look for most Style Darlings, but lately, the actress has been pulling it off, looking a bit softer & feminine than usual.  Anyone agree?

Endorsing a $47.99 tee isn’t my usual way of style blogging for a bargain, but I came across this see-thru tee from Bluefly that would replicate this look perfectly.  If you alternate this enough with other items you currently own, it will really begin to earn its value. Also, I choose this plus-size top from Old Navy, which is only $8.00 & available in nine other colors.  If you’re looking for some color in a look like this, then that’s your best bet!  As for jeans, I stuck to Old Navy with Flirt skinny jeans for $19.97 & Plus braid-trim skinny jeans for $39.94.

Kristen keeps it simple, but sexy with a black bra underneath & what better way to buy a black bra, than to get a white one with it for practically free!  This duo set is only $32.oo @Victoria’s Secret.  I’ve actually used coupons for this item & it’s been an essential part of my undergarment collection & you can’t get any better than Vickie’s!  A rectangular ring is all that she wears & here’s a great silver pick from Forever 21, costing barely $5.00! Lastly, while brand-name Converse sneakers run up to $90.00, I found high top look-alikes from Payless for $29.99 by Airwalk.

All & all, this look will cost you anywhere between $98.73 to $118.75, which really isn’t bad for one outfit that can be mixed & matched to follow the latest trends. For more on Kristen’s style, check out Red Carpet Review: The 2011 Met Costume Institute Gala & In Style’s Star Finder to see all her red carpet looks.  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Hip Hair Accessories ($10 & Under)!

When you’re having fun out & about in the sun, it’s sometimes too hot out to keep your hair down (unless you’re lucky enough to live in one of those always-perfect climates).  However, an easy fix to keeping your hair stylish amid the weather is with hair accessories.  Back in October, I featured The Stylish Five: Get Happy About Headbands ($10 & Under)!, so I’m pretty well-versed in hair-ware!  Featuring clips, pins, & headbands is always fun b/c there’s just so much variety with feathers, rhinestones, animal prints, & flowers.

Here I’ve selected a rhinestone encrusted headband for $5.80 @Forever 21, which is perfect to dress up a basic tee or to put with something dressier like a cocktail dress (very Blair Waldorf!).  Next up, add some flair with feathers in this clip duo from Wet Seal for $7.00.  They’re cute for pulling back bangs or clipping onto the top of your ponytail! I love pulling my bangs back (in between haircuts) with a bobby pin & the extra delicate daisy detail just screams summer, available @Fred Flare for $6.00! Another fun accessory is a single flower clip like the green one from Target for $3.99.  If you’re crafty, you can even attach a safety-pin to it to wear on the lapel of your blazer or on a canvas tote bag!  Lastly, I saved my favorite, a “leopard blossom” headband, perfect to jazz up an LBD or summer romper.  Check it out @Charlotte Russe for a mere $6.50! Check back for more on The Stylish Five!  Happy Styling!

Color Me Style: ‘Orange’ You Glad You’re In Orange?

Bright rich hues are the hot for summer, especially those in the  orange family.  Not everyone can pull of the boldness of persimmon, tangerine, or saffron, but here we have some stylish examples of how to pull off the tricky color in a dress.  Eva Longoria dons an ASOS sheath with coordinating Brian Atwood slingbacks.  Emma Stone plays up her auburn locks at a Today Show appearance.  Olivia Palermo shows off a Victoria Beckham design with leopard pumps & a pink Sondra Roberts clutch.  The Tree of Life star Jessica Chastain mixes hues with bright pink sandals.  Jennifer Aniston breaks out of her LBD with this draped cut-out Vivienne Westwood dress & Christian Louboutins.  Lastly, Kristin Cavallari wears a Jessica Barkley mini dress with nude pumps. To really play up this color, choose softer tones like neutrals in your accessories, or go a little bolder with bright pinks & animal-inspired shoes.  Also, nothing looks better with this color than a healthy tan (but DO avoid tanning beds), but as you can see on Emma & Jessica, a pale glow can also work with the right orange tone!

The selected dresses range in their orange hues from cinnamon to tangerine, & are all under $50! First, the ruched jersey dress by AGB is available @Macy’s.  Second, Urban Outfitters has this Sparkle & Fade knit bow back dress for $48.00.  If orange really isn’t for you, then this orange / red cotton-blend dress from Lulu’s might work better for you.  @Jessica London, this side ruche dress is flattering on many shapes & is currently marked down to $39.99.  The fifth dress is chiffon in rust from Forever 21 & can be coordinated with many different accessories like a chunky or metallic belts & a crochet vest.  Finally, the one-shoulder Bar III dress from Macy’s is reduced in price to $37.49 & can be matched with platform sandals & stacked bangles. Check out our previous Color Me Style posts for more color-coordinated style finds!  Happy Styling!

7/25/11 Darling of the Day: Pippa Middleton’s Casual Chic Day Look!

Pippa Middleton is making her second appearance here on Style Darling in a week (previously featured wearing a denim dress in Basics for a Bargain), so you know there’s some serious stuff going on with this famous British sister!  Pippa was caught out & about in May, strolling around London in a super hip, yet easy ensemble which includes a basic black blazer, red top, & skinny Hudson jeans.  She accessorized her look with Gucci sunglasses & a Modalu handbag.

During my search for comparable & affordable items, I was able to out together two looks for both Women’s & Plus Sizes.  These include blazers from Target & Torrid, tops from Bebe & One Stop Plus, & lastly, skinny jeans from Express & Torrid.

For the accessories, I really lucked out on bargain-priced items with a pair of sunglasses for $5.80, lace-up booties for $6.99 (YES $6.99!), & a camel shoulder bag for $32.80, all @Forever 21! As for the jewelry, the pair of drop earrings are from the Simply Vera Vera Wang collection @Kohl’s for $9.00.  Lastly, Charlotte Russe was my go-to resource for the rhinestone necklace, as well as the flower wreath ring & intertwined rhinestone ring, both $4.00!

These are the basic items that are the foundation to any great outfit.  She remains classic, chic, & very cool in this look that can be worn for a casual day at the office, running errands on the weekends, or even if you’re headed out to a quick meeting at a trendy cafe.  I recently had the argument about cardigans being so much more fabulous than blazers, but here is where the opposite is true.  I love how adding a blazer to a primary-colored top & basic pair of jeans (any style- flared, skinny, straight, or wide), adds a little more polish to the typically casual outfit.  Be sure to check out more Darling of the Day posts, including 48 photos of the Style Darling, courtesy of In Style’s Photo Gallery! Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: White Tiered Peasant Skirts from Theory Vs. Forever 21 & Target!

It’s been a while since I went on the prowl looking for luxury items & their less expensive look-alikes!  While ending my time here in Southampton, I noticed quite the array of peasant skirts in the mix & why not celebrate the summer with a fresh, crisp white tiered maxi skirt like these?

However, (starting from the left to right) I found a Theory brand skirt @Bloomingdale’s.  It was marked down considerably from $295.00 to $132.75, but on a Style Darling’s budget, that just won’t do!  While on the prowl for affordable skirts to fit Style Darlings of all sizes, I happily came across this middle one from Forever 21 for $19.80.  As we move to the far right, a plus-size look-alike skirt has been discovered @Target by designer CALYPSO for $37.99!

By finding these comparably priced afforadble items, you’re saving anywhere between $95 to $113!  With that money, you can invest in the entire outfit by finding tanks tops or basic tees to match up.  Also, a skirt like this calls for some serious splash & that can be found in espadrille wedges or platforms sandals- anything with a tropical flower pattern will do!  Also, take advantage of the simplicity of the skirt, like images show & throw on beaded bracelets, stacks of bangles, or layer over your top a chunky necklace to get a real summer feel!

Which items are you seeking in a less expensive form?  Do imitation designer shoes make you giggle?  Check out our previous Luxury Look-ALikes for Less posts to see the other fabulous finds that could be invading your wardrobe without hurting your wallet! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Heads Up For Summer Hats ($15 & Under)!

One of the best ways to beat the sun this summer is to break out a hat! Not to mention, hide your hair if you’re a beach gal or just ending a day at the pool.  Here we have five examples of stylish, but affordable hats, all perfect for whatever look you’ve got going on!

While I myself am not a hat gal, I do love natural looking ones in straw like this chained banded basketweave hat, available @Forever 21.  It is ultra chic for a (summer) LBD with some metallic platform sandals if you’re headed to an outdoors occasion.  Keeping with the decorative bands, if you’re feeling animal-inspired, check out the zebra banded fedora from Wet Seal for only $7.99!  If you’re a country girl looking to snag a cute cowboy, then maybe the beaded straw cowboy hat from Charlotte Russe will do the trick with a plaid cotton shirt & some cutoff denim shorts!  For a day on the boat with friends, try canvas floppy hat to protect your eyes while rocking a babydoll dress & flip flops.  This fashionable Old Navy find is marked down to $10.97!  If you’re a lady about town, check out this white straw cloche hat from Target to go with a sheath dress & long string of pearls, very roaring 20s!

For more stylish inspiration, check out how Vanessa Hudgens, Rihanna, Kate Beckinsale, & Kate Hudson wear hats on & off the red carpet!  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Cute Cardigans Inspired by Victoria Beckham, Michelle Obama, & More!

I’m super lucky to have thought of packing some cute cardigans to go with my dresses & skirt outfits, especially when sitting for up to three hours during a lecture at this year’s Writer’s Conference in Southampton with Stony Brook University.  I’m so inspired by stylish celebrities for my week & a half in The Hamptons, I’ve really been on my style game everyday.  However, getting back to cardigans, here we have a range of looks from Style Darlings like Michelle Obama, Camilla Belle, Victoria Beckham, Ashley Greene, Olivia Palermo, & Reese Witherspoon (who I recently featured in a Basics for a Bargain post too).

Cardies are no longer boring since they come in a range of fabulous styles, as seen here.  These are essentials for any time of the calendar year & (in my opinion, give the blazer a run for its stylish bucks!).  With the latest rage in boyfriend cardigans, they’re definitely no longer for librarians or bankers (ha!).  Layer one over a graphic tee & a denim mini skirt, or try something soft & feminine with leather leggings.  There’s always a summer dress that’s just calling for a cardigan companion as well!  Take a look at some of these celebrity looks to help get some cardigan inspiration, not to mention the above choices, ranging from $16.00 – $59.90!  If you’re looking for links to these picks, check out Gap, The Limited, Forever 21, Target, & LOFT.  Happy Styling!

7/20/11 Darling of the Day: Heidi Klum Wearing White, Neutrals, & Sequins!!

During a recent appearance on Good Day L.A., Heidi Klum showed up in a flirty white sequined tank, skinny crops, & nude suede pumps.  This outfit is cool, casual, chic, & very age appropriate for the Project Runway judge.  White is a tricky color to pull off, but if you pair your pieces just right, you can look as good as the former model & mom of four!

I’ve created, once again, a friendly-to-all-sizes duo of affordable looks, inspired by this white & neutral ensemble.  Starting form the left, the studded tank from Forever 21 is so cute & can even dress up some khakis & leggings.  Also, from the website, we have trendy nude platform pumps which are perfect for virtually any look & occasion!  You can always find the danitiest & most inexpensive accessories to help style a summer-friendly look like this with a rhinestone ring set. When moving on to Charlotte Russe, you can find denim white skinny crops for under $15! While you’re there, add a touch of bling with the silver mesh belt that will jazz up any shirt or shift dress for your next evening affair.  To help finish off your accessories, a stack of silver bangles from Mandee for $8.00 will do the trick.  If you’re really looking for one more item, then head over to Kohl’s for the knot ring shown.

For the fuller ladies, this crisp white look will help show off your curves with just three items!  This adorable tiered lace top from Torrid may not be as flashy as the other tops shown, but here’s where you get creative with your accessories, like pairing the studded beige belt from Old Navy with skinny pedal pushers that can be found @Avenue.  There’s your outfit!  For more stylish looks worn by the lovely Ms. Klum, take a clicky on over to In Style’s Star Finder (one of my favorite go-to sources)!  Check out our previous Darling of the Day posts & tell us who you’re favorite star of the red carpet is?  Who do you want to see featured here? What looks are you inspired by? Happy Styling!

Basics for a Bargain: Denim Dresses Inspired by Reese Witherspoon, Pippa Middleton, & Jessica Alba!

This summer is all about dresses & as we can see by our favorite celebrities, denim dresses are hitting the streets.  Here we have some inspiration from Pippa Middleton in a belted denim button-down dress, paired with camel heels & purse.  Jessica Alba is rocking an Isabel Marant design, which is both flirty and bohemian, paired with shades & army boots for an extra touch of playfulness.  Also, Reese Witherspoon shows of a classic shirtdress style dress by Billy Ried, opting for a pop of color in red sandals & a cognac Chloe shoulder bag.
These four very stylish & affordable denim dresses can be a basic worn for an outdoor family party or on a date.  The shift denim dress from Target is flattering for nearly any body type & calls for a belt & cardigan!  In the fall, add some rich mustard tights & ankle booties to get more from your investment!  The blue denim shirt dress can be found @Forever 21. Mix & match it with strappy platforms for a night out with the girls or ballet flats for day!  This dark denim shirt dress is available in sizes 12-26 @Torrid.  Take a little advice from the image & get out some beads to dress it up! As for the sweetheart spaghetti strap dress by Material Girl from Macy’s, top it off with a blazer & closed toe pumps for the office or cocktail event! Check out previous Basics for a Bargain posts!  What’s your favorite basic item that you can’t live without?  Where do you find the best bargains?  Happy Styling!

7/18/11 Darling of the Day: Leighton Meester for Vera Wang’s Lovestruck!

Leighton Meester, the newest face of Vera Wang’s Lovestruck, looked super stylish & accessible in a pleated blush blouse, paired with some seriously sexy leather leggings at the fragrance’s London launch party.  A departure from some go-to black trousers, this look is incredibly easy to translate into your everyday life.  Not to mention that the Gossip Girl star is wearing some killer Brian Atwood sandals & a special leather-looking Dannijo bracelet.  These are essential for when you head out to the bar, for an interview at a trendy office, or an after work event.

I’ve turned this look into two comparable outfits, giving a shoutout to my plus-size Style Darlings!  While I couldn’t find a pleated blouse (I’m sure they’re out there in soft blush, nude, & gray hues), here we have a tailored ruffle top from The Limited, as well as a smocked button front shirt from Avenue.  On the bottom, try out leggings with a faux leather panel, or plus-sized Baby Phat leggings, which can also be paired with basic tees & a vest, or dressed up even more with a corset top or a belted tunic top.

The best lavender strappy sandals that I could find are these fun t-straps by Type Z @Zappos for $53! They’re perfect for underneath a floral maxi dress or to add a pop of color to an LBD. The only accessory that you’ll need for this look is a bejeweled mesh cuff by Candie’s, available @Kohl’s!

Style Darling has technologically come a long way, but take a look at the last time we featured Ms. Meester as a Darling of the Day.  If you love all thing stylish about Leighton, check her out on In Style on their Star Finder to see who she’s been wearing on the red carpet & for special events!  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Lauren Conrad’s Newest Collection @Kohl’s!

Summer is in full swing, but all the department stores are getting geared up for fall.  The only good thing to come out of those silly MTV reality shows about the pretty people living up in some hills is the fabulous & fashionable Lauren Conrad whose line LC by Lauren Conrad is sold @Kohl’s.  Her latest designs are causal, breezy, & super sweet.  These items, thanks to a sneak peek from In Style, look very easy to add to your (affordable) fall wardrobe wishlist.  These are just four of her latest looks. I love how each of them can be worn for several different body types & occasions.

Starting from the right to the left, the gray rosette chiffon top (which is also available in purple) is on sale for only $20!  This can be tucked into a pencil skirt for a night out with the girls, or worn casually with denim shorts & wedges!  I naturally gravitate to gray, I guess, but I just love this striped maxi dress, currently marked down from $60.00 to $45.00.  It can go from day to evening with just the switch up of a few accessories, like a chunky belt & platforms, or a thin chain necklace & jeweled sandals.  Eyelet, like in this blouse for example, isn’t a fabric that is easily translatable b/w seasons, but paired with these cuffed linen shorts, your look hits all the right faashion notes.  With a crochet shoulder bag & some neutral espadrilles, your ready for a day date or family barbecue!  Lastlty, I picked something with some pattern like this floral chiffon top, which is marked in half to $18.  This top is the perfect length & is very forgiving around the waste.  Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: Best Bargains for a Beach Bum!

I recently posted a blog called The Stylish Five: Bargain Beach Accessories ($10 & Under)! but here I’ve put together an entire beach look for under $100!  This outfit is both sexy & fun, demonstrating the only playful time that I would mix so many animal prints.  Summer is about having fun & embracing patterns, so why not have some fun with your accessories too?

Starting off, we have this slimming shirred halter swimsuit by Catalina sold @Walmart for $32.00.  It’s also available in black & teal, but I went with the red b/c it’s a little spicier.  It recalls a very vintage Marilyn Monroe feeling.  Although I wouldn’t actually do it at the beach, wearing a sexy sarong with some towering platform sandals would make for a sexy way to greet your beau when he comes home from the office this summer!  While this suit is ideal for any body type, check out Walmart’s entire department of swimwear for more affordable separates & one-pieces in almost every size!

Next is the all important terry ho0ded cover-up in white.  It’s fresh-looking against the red of the swimsuit, super easy to wear, & only $19.50 @Old Navy.  It is also available in pink & army green, but I like the white the best! Also, the sizes go up to 2X for the more voluptuous Style Darlings out there!

As for your feet, I selected these fun leopard print sandals from Forever 21, for only $9.80.  Not only are they great for a day at the beach, but you can wear them with a maxi dress or even with some leggings & a tunic!  I would typically pick regular flip-flops for a day beach look, but this special swimsuit calls for something with a little more splash!  Keeping with the animal print theme, also from Old Navy, I found this canvas tote for $7.97, which is spacious enough for all of your accessories at 16″L x 4″W x 14″H. If you’re looking for a tote like this for the day, then also check out the army green / seahorse one available at the same price! To complete our safari-esque accessories, cheetah / zebra towel, called Cheebra at Target is a great way to mark your beach territory for only $9.99!

While you’re laying out or taking a stroll down the boardwalk, break out a pair of blingy sunglasses for only $3.00 @Wet Seal, perfect for maintain that fiery movie star glow about you, but also protecting your eyes.  If you’re looking to keep the sun away, try a floppy hat with beaded details to protect your face.  It costs $10.80 @Forever 21, but they also have other cowboy hat styles if that’s the look you’re going for!  Last, but not least, the always important travel size sunscreen, preventing your skin from any sun damage, but also affordable & space efficient when you’re looking to carry around that copy of Great Expectations that you’ve been meaning to read, along with an MP3 player & some refreshments.  Not to mention that the travel size is $2.99 @Ulta!

And that would make our grand total… $96.05 (before taxes)!  Check out our previous $100 Challenge posts for more great outfit ideas on a budget! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Old Navy Tanks Perfect for Skirts, Shorts, & More!

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been giving my Old Navy credit card quite the work out & it’s nobody’s fault but my own- in that I have a terrible weakness for stylish deals!  While these four tank tops may not look like anything special, they have become very versatile & vital items in my closet in a very surprising way.

I’m not usually a stripes girl, maybe wearing them in skirt to look more flattering, but I found the purple & green striped tank, which are marked down as low as $3.97.  They fit perfectly & I knew they would be simple selections for my cropped capris or denim skirts this summer.  Not to mention that I have coordinating flip-flops for them.  However, I surprised myself when wearing them both with the mixture of other more feminine items.  I broke out the purple tank for a jersey knit tiered skirt & a thick white crochet belt.  All I needed were some cowboy boots & I would’ve looked like I stepped off of a Carrie Underwood music video, but somehow the look felt very appropriately me.  Although the tops were striped, I opted for floral patterned flip flops for my day out & about over the weekend & felt every bit a Style Darling.  Also, I selected the green striped tank to be layered under a white cableknit short-sleeved cardigan & a linen drawstring skirt, recalling a very preppy / nautical look. For casual & effortlessly stylish days, I was very proud of myself.

Next, the black tanks are invaluable, marked for $8.50 & $10, serving for perfect basics to pair with brighter & bolder items.  I even like the lace-strapped tank with a crochet bolero & my cargo crops with some animal print strappy sandals.  These are the essential items in which a Style Darling can build the foundation of a fabulous wardrobe. The spaghetti strap tank was worn with a teal wrap dress, so as not to provoke a wardrobe malfunction which walking around the office & I loved that I didn’t have to sit & adjust it all day like I usually do with layering items.

These are great pieces for any time of the year, especially in the fall & winter when it’s time to break out the chunky sweater or long-sleeved tops.  These make for fun contrasting layers when you want to add more dimension to your outfit.  All four of these items are reduced in price & have been for a while, so they probably won’t last long online or in stores.  So check out all the tanks & sale items at Old Navy.  Don’t forget to use your Old Navy credit card to get rewards points & future discounts, as well as taking the survey to receive a code for 10% off your next purchase!

7/11/11 Darling of the Day: Jayma Mays in Pieces from Ann Taylor LOFT!

Calabasas has more going for it now than those pesky Kardashian girls.  Here we have the very lovely star of Glee, Jayma Mays in an outfit straight off the website for Ann Taylor LOFT!  I love it when celebrities wear affordable & relatable looks from places that we everyday people shop in!

The roll sleeve camp shirt is the perfect color for her complexion & would love paired with dark denim jeans for a casual day or a floral pencil skirt for the office.  I love skirts that have contrasting stripes like this tie dye printed skirt, which to me, just calls for a bright yellow or red scoop neck tee tucked in with some white or neutral espadrilles!

This skirt is very flattering on her petite frame & would look really adorable on any size, especially with a belted over cardigan set & some layered beads!  Also from LOFT is the knotted metal necklace, a classic easy touch to a look that already has enough going on with it, but frames Jayma’s face perfectly!

I was unable to find out who the shoes & ring were designed by (the ring probably being her wedding ring!), so I found these very cute options to help recreate Jayma’s look.  These beaded strappy wedges by Clarks @Zappos are a little pricey for my budget, but get great rating son comfort & are very versatile additions to any summer look, including an eyelet summer dress or with leggings & a tunic.  As for the last piece, I checked out The Limited & found this concave ring which is minimal & hardly even noticeable, but super cute to wear with virtually any look!

Check out a previous Darling of the Day post from back in May, featuring Sophia Bush in looks from the parent company, Ann Taylor.  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Super Savings on a Skirt from JC Penney!

During all the big sales for the 4th of July last week, I took advantage of a coupon from JC Penney which was $10 when you spend $25 or more.  Of course, I’d been shopping in the store a little more often than I usually do, knowing that there was no possible way to fit anything else in my closet, including another skirt, but I went ahead & checked out the store anyway.  I’d been very successful in finding cute a-line, pencil, or sateen.  This skirt by east 5th popped out at me, especially since I’m trying to get away from the darker colors.

It was originally priced at $36.00, but was on sale for $19.99.  I picked up a few super cheap clearance items to make my coupon eligible.  These items included a graphic printed floral skirt with some illusion ruche details & a black scoop neck pullover, both under $7.  When I walked out of the store, the super long receipt read “You saved $69!”  I couldn’t believe it.  Aside from that, at the bottom of it, there was a provided website address where I cold fill out a survey about my shopping experience & get a 15% off coupon for my next purchase.  I’m super stocked b/c I also know that JC Penney often has sales where you get 15 % off just for using your JCP credit card, so that’s already 30% off & all I have to do is show up for the sale!  If you’re a skeptic about all this sale stuff & think JC Penney is just for frumpy old ladies, well, you’re wrong.  With brands like I Heart Ronson, Nicole Miller, Mango, & a.n.a, you definitely can’t go wrong!

Even though I’m a skirt-aholic, you can find just about any & every stylish design of a well-structured skirt at the store.  If you’re looking for a reliable black pencil skirt, or need something floral & whimsical like this one, check out their entire skirt department.  I don’t think I’ve ever walked in there when there wasn’t a sale going on.

I’m looking forward to wearing this skirt not jut for the color, but b/c even though it’s a seriously bold floral print, I could try to pair it with some black opaque tights & suede peep toes.  Also, I have a pair of pointed toe pumps in the same teal color in the skirt.  If I find the right olive-green cardigan, it could make for a well-coordinated look.  Any suggestions on how to wear this skirt?  Have you had any super crazy fashion finds at this store? Leave some comments!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Jennifer Aniston’s Little Black Dress Looks!

Jennifer Aniston is America’s Sweetheart- without a doubt. She’s filling the style ranks as a modern-day Audrey Hepburn (in her own way- of course nothing can truly compare to Miss Audrey)!  Jennifer is all about being comfortable & sexy, always complimenting her very fit figure, however she never looks overdone or as though someone else dressed her.  She makes the little black dress her own in every way possible, adding black tights for the cooler months, sticking to ultra strappy sandals, & always showing off some serious toe cleavage.  I watched a recent episode of Fashion Police on E! & Jennifer was being criticized for wearing yet another LBD to an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but I think it suits her, especially looking so ridiculously effortless & hot in them.  She really puts twenty-somethings who don’t own their sense of style to shame.

These seven images capture Jennifer at various events over the last few years,  but most recently while she’s promoting her endless slew of rom-coms & other films.  Starting from left to right, here we go: First the former Friends star dons a flirty shoulder-embellished Nina Ricci frock for the February premiere of Just Go With It in Berlin.  Next she wears a structured black 3/4 sleeve dress with black tights again for another winter appearance, but this time at The Early Show.  Both of these looks are super easy to pull off & it really seems like she’s wearing the same shoes & tights.  Here’s a tip straight from the actress herself, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

The third image is from a 2004 luncheon in Los Angeles & she’s wearing a ruffled Moschino wrap dress & super skinny stapped sandals.  This is very figure-flattering & the thin straps on the heels don’t cover up her feet, thus helping elongate her legline.  At a 2006 event, she chose a metallic Calvin Klein dress with a little fringe detail at the bottom & plenty of decolletage to go around.  However it does look like she’s just thrown on yet another easy LBD & looks super comfortable in it, continuing with her skinny strappy sandal rule.

While promoting The Switch last summer, Jennifer went with a dolman style mini dress, layered necklaces, & peep toe pumps. This style of dress is very easy to wear, especially if there are parts that you wanna cover up, but really, do you think she’s got anything to hide?  At the Madrid premiere of The Bounty Hunter, she returned back to black metallics in strapless Valentino number & seriously bondage-looking heels.  The frilly look of the mini dress vs. the edge of the shoes is a surprising combination on her, but it totally works!

At the recent premiere of Horrible Bosses in Los Angeles, she chose a Balenciaga mini dress with her signature style of sandals by Versace & accessorized with Fred Leighton jewelry & a clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo.  Lastly, the alleged crime of LBDs (only b/c Joan Rivers is so sick of talking about it- I personally think it’s adorable), Jennifer returned to Nina Ricci in this feminine, floral LBD & cute accented peep toe pumps.  For the afternoon appearance at The Daily Show, she looks polished, professional, & like a lady, saving the sexy side for night.

Here we have some great little black dress suggestions, available at New York & Company, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, Lulu’s, Forever 21, Avenue, EDressMe, & Express!  Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Bargain Beach Accessories ($10 & Under)!

Summer is all about bright colors, fun in the sun, & light, easy style.  What better way to head to the beach than with a few fabulous must-haves for a bargain of $10 & under?!  These few essentials will help out your wallet & help you save for that vacation you’re planning this season!

You can’t go wrong with sunscreen!  @Ulta, this spray is super easy to apply, but if you’re looking for lotions or oils, those are available as well.  Not to mention, if you’re not a beach bum, but want to show off a fresh sun-kissed tan, take a look at the brand’s very affordable bronzers for $10 & under! If you sign up for the website’s emails, you’ll receive all the latest news on sales, coupon deals ($3.50 off $10 or more!), free shipping events, & specials for free samples!  This is great to keep in mind if you’re about to travel, or want to save a bundle on skin care items.

Next, we have a bright & playful beach towel from Target.  Obviously, you don’t need me to say this, but the brighter your towel, the more comfortable it is.  And it’s sooooo soft!  Stay away from dark colors which will absorb more UV rays.  Not to mention, I just bought 2 towels like these which just so happened to be on sale for $5 at the time.  If you check out the coupons available at the store’s website, you can receive $1 off your next towel purchase of $5 or more!

So, what are you gonna put all of your beach accessories in?  A resuable recyclable bag, of course!  This is an eco-friendly item & VERY budget-friendly for only $1.50 @Forever 21.  From time to time I feature these bags sold in stores & on the website b/c they’re so cute & really easy to carry around.  All year round the store sells brightly decorated bags like this that are perfect for running errands, carrying books from the library, or if you’re just out grabbing some groceries.  Or while you’re at the beach, throw all of your essentials in it, including a book, iPod, & cell phone!  Even though we are talking accessories here, I have to mention that the website has some really fabulous finds on swimwear & coverups for all sizes!

While you’re shopping around the Forever 21 site, don’t forget to take a look at their fashionable selection of eyewear, including these gray square frames.  They sell hundreds of different styles for only $5.80!  So if you are looking for something inexpensive to protect your eyes during a round of beach volleyball, put away your investment shades by brands like Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, or Fendi, & break out these very cute sunglasses! You can go with classic movie star frames, sqaures ones, aviators, or even something neon with some 80s flair!

Last, but not least, you can’t have a sunny day at the beach without some flip-flops!  Yeah, gladiator sandals & other flat strappy picks are all the rage, but don’t flip-flops just feel like the best go-to shoes sometimes?  I know that’s how I feel!  You can’t go wrong with a bright patterned rubber pair like these from Old Navy which are only $5!  If you catch your email alerts right, you can even find them on sale for as low as $2.50!  They sell up to 9 different pairs of prints, including florals, animal-inspired, tropical patterns, & stripes to go with whatever mood or swimsuit you’re wearing!

What are your beach essentials?  What music do you love to listen to?  Any suggestions on how to keep your hair looking fun & healthy during the heat?  Have a safe summer! Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Lace Pumps From $33 – $758!

If you’ve got a summer evening wedding coming up, I always say: Go for some lace pumps!  But what if you don’t already own a pair, then it’s time to start shopping.  If you’re first step is to check out what’s online & where, then take a deep breath b/c we’re spanning across MANY different price points here.  I know I’m always looking for something stylish & affordable, which is why I turn to some of my favorite resources like GOjane, 6PM, & Windsor Store for budget-friendly special occasion items!

However, if you take a look at the image to the right, you’ll see that three pairs of these lacey shoes are very pricey.  This (I guess) makes sense since we’re dealing with designs by Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, and Elizabeth and James (by the Olsen twins).

Some advice: Don’t ever do all-over lace, unless it’s in something by Dolce & Gabbana b/c otherwise it’ll look cheap or like lingerie, or like both!  Lace pumps would look very demure with your favorite little black dress, or perhaps something ruffled.  Of course when you’re doing lace, you can go a little more sexy with them by picking out a peep toe pair for your most flattering cocktail dress, or try dressy shorts with a silk tank to wear with the cut-out pair.  Maybe even dress up a romper or separate the pieces of a skirt suit to make it look happy-hour-ready with pumps like these!

What do you like to wear lace pumps with?  Which are your favorite bargain shoes stores? Happy Styling!

7/6/11 Darling of the Day: Emma Stone Goes Biker Chic at a Screening for ‘The Help!’

At a recent screening for her new movie, The Help, Emma Stone stepped out in her signature red locks with some serious biker chic duds!  She paired a black leather motorcycle jacket with a basic gray tee & cropped gray skinny pants.  Adding a little sense of femininity to the whole, she sports some majorly pointy black pumps, which are coming back this fall!

Any body type can pull off this look! To find a patch pocket gray top like this for my plus size readers, check out this link to Forever 21! Cuffed & cropped pants are super chic for any outfit, however for sizes up to 20, gray skinny jeans would do the trick just the same as well!  A leather jacket is the perfect way to finish off a look & here Emma gets us ready for fall by doing just that!  While it was hard to find one in a plus size, this DKNYC jacket from 6PM is motorcycle-inspired & produces the same edgy effect for an outfit like this.  Also, jackets are a struggle for even petite sizes as well & here’s a stylish option!

Lastly, let’s talk about shoes!  I mentioned earlier that pointy pumps are coming back & this we’ve seen a whole lot on Kate Walsh, Kerry Washington, & Cameron Diaz! The selected pair comes from Victoria’s Secret & is also available in red!

Emma has been previously featured in our Darling of the Day posts, so check her out here! Also, if you wanna check out a sneak peek of The Help, check out my article on Movie Buzzers! Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Hailee Steinfeld Starring in Miu Miu Ads!

While we’re not seeing Hailee Steinfeld on the runways of Paris or Milan, we are seeing her take runway looks straight from a photo shoot into the laps of fashion magazine readers everywhere!  The Academy Award nominee has been named the new spokesmodel for the latest campaign by designer Miu Miu.  Here we can see the ads, starring the fourteen-year-old actress as very serious, sultry, vintage, & downright beautiful!  After recently catching her breakout role as Mattie Ross in True Grit, I was blown away b/c I knew how gorgeously she debuted on the red carpet during last year’s awards season. She’s following in the footsteps of Katie Holmes, Vanessa Paradis, & Kirsten Dunst who have each previously modeled for the brand.

I usually don’t say how much I love muted colors like brown & navy, but I can see how a young girl like her can make these pieces work in her everyday professional life.  Of course, Miu Miu is an expensive brand name, but we can translate the idea of pairing these colors of silhouettes together & confidently stand as Style Darlings! Also, for those of you who don’t know, Miu Miu is a brand derived from the house of Prada.  It’s also a nickname to designer Miuccia Prada.

When I hear Prada, I can’t help but think of young Hailee b/c she has been seen so frequently sporting looks by the designer. She’s such a perfect fit, exuding youth, sophistication, & a modern sensibility when it comes to fashion.  I wish I was so lucky at that age!

First Hailee is wearing a long sleeved shift dress by Miu Miu at the brand’s fashion show.  Next, she sports the swan trend (yes, there is one!) at the 61st Berlin Festival celebrating the premiere of True Grit.  She went for edgy stripes in Prada for the 17th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards (the same dress that Amanda Seyfried wore on the cover of Elle).  Last, she wears a dazzling sequined outfit with a tea-length skirt, & satin pumps to the Orange British Academy Film Awards.  So you see that she is already a trend setter at such a young age.  Keep an eye out for the actress who appears next in a remake of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, as none other than Juliet! To check out more looks from the designer, head to Net-A-Porter, Shop Style, & Neiman Marcus. And if you’re looking to see more from Miss Hailee, take a look at In Style‘s profile of her best red carpet appearances!  Happy Styling!

7/3/11 Darling of the Day: Drew Barrymore Goes Nautical Chic for Chanel!

At a recent benefit dinner for Chanel, the very lovely Drew Barrymore stepped out in this season’s most fashionable colors: navy & white.  Looking every bit a Style Darling, she added a glamorous bib necklace to her white top & navy textured skirt, all by the very stylish brand.  The pieces were matched with cork-heeled wedges by Christian Loboutin. With just the addition of a flowered bib necklace, the look instantly went from casual to dressy.  Not to mention her polished black & white clutch.  Or maybe it’s navy also?  I can’t tell.

Because Drew is one of those actresses adored by women of all shapes, styles, & sizes, I decided to do something a little different by selecting items that are both Misses & Plus Size friendly, as per the request of a very close friend who made a good point on Style Darling’s Facebook group page.

Here we have two very basic, but flattering white tops (from Macy’s & Avenue) that can be mixed & matched with virtually any item in your closet.  Of course it was quite the task to search for two non-peasant looking navy skirts, but here we have ’em from Dillards & the other from One Stop Plus.  A look like this can also be accessorized with a wide textured belt & platform sandals if you don’t have navy wedges.  The wedges are currently on sale @Steve Madden for under $34, which is an awesome deal if you wear a lot of summer dresses in white eyelet or linen.  Something in red would actually look really cute with these wedges too!

Speaking of accessories, the bib necklace is very affordable from JC Penney, along with a cocktail ring from Forever 21.  While I couldn’t quite find an evening clutch worthy of this blog, I did come across a black one & a white, from Express that are just as versatile & affordable! Check out our previous blog on Drew in a Darling of the Day post from back in April, showing off some rock star chic! Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Transformers 3 Press Tour & More!

Rosie Huntington – Whiteley is the latest it-girl to hit the red carpet, making headlines in the fashion world for quite a while now.  She is the new leading lady for the mega-Blockbuster action movie, Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon starring opposite Shia LaBeouf and Patrick Dempsey.  The English-born actress & former model was handpicked by director Michael Bay, after working on one of those sexy winged-angel Victoria’s Secret ads.

Courtesy of In Style, we see Rosie (which is also my best friend’s name!) in a slew of gorgeous looks on & off the red carpet, attracting every camera in sight!  Even at this summer’s MTV Movie Awards Rosie kept it classy, but edgy in a tiger print long-sleeved shift by Dolce & Gabbana, Sergio Rossi heels, & a Salvatore Ferragamo bag. At a recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, she opted for a glamorous halter jumpsuit by Michael Kors in a very luxurious white & classic movie star aviators. Even when she’s not making a formal appearance somewhere, she struts her stuff in a loose-fitting long-sleeved blouse, black cuffed trousers, ankle strap heels in neutral, & finishes it all off with oversized sunglasses & an Alexander Wang bag.

Keeping with the sultry-girl-next-door look, she dons Michael Kors once again in a belted black slit gown.  This makes me think that the ingenue is an early Halle Berry / Angelina Jolie in-the-making. For a photo call appearance for Transformers 3, she went bold in a magenta Michael Kors gown with a super high slit & nude platform Christian Louboutins.  After seeing this stunning look, all I can say is: Move over, Blake Lively, there’s a new Style Darling in town! When the film premiered in Berlin, she sparkled in a silver belted open-back Naeem Khan gown, which made her golden skin & enviable cheekbones all the more sensational. In a very Jessica Rabbit-inspired red lamé strapless gown by Antonio Berardi 2011, she glowed like a veteran Style Darling at the movie’s New York premiere this week. Obviously she’s got the gams & she’s gonna show them off & there was no exception when she attended the Moscow premiere in two-toned Gucci confection with a sheer black skirt.  Not to mention that this is where we see her usually movie-star locks pin straight, accented by the flower details across her shoulder.  AND, Lady Gaga may have started the hotpants-in-place-of-real-pants movement, but Rosie is setting the trend for see-through looks like this one in a very classy & sensual way.

What do you think of this latest Style Darling?  Are you watching out for her latest red carpet appearances?  Do you think she has what it takes to make it to the top of the style ranks?  Check out our previous Red Carpet Review posts, featuring some of your favorite & most stylish stars!  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Banana Republic & ‘Mad Men’ Style!

It’s impossible to suggest that TV does not influence fashion & vice versa.  Carrie Bradshaw anyone? Anyway, you better watch out for fall fashions at Banana Republic, where we’re seeing a straight-from-the-set collaboration of Mad Men‘s costumer designer Janie Bryant with the retailer.  Courtesy of In Style, we have a sneak peek at the fall line which will hit your local stores on August 10th!  Bryant told the magazine, “The collection is about dressing with effortlessly chic style, bringing a dressed up look to American style for the modern man and woman.”  You can pick being a Joan (Christina Hendricks), Peg (Elisabeth Moss), or Betty (January Jones), looking super sensational with a whole lot of vintage.  These separates are also great for pairing with more modern pieces like a one-shoulder top, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, or cropped pants.  In addition, there are tailored mens looks included in the line, which you can spot by going to the magazine’s article.

*Note: The outfits in the picture to the far right are not sold at Banana Republic.  That is simply a promotional image to show the styles of three characters.  Happy Styling!
