Splurge Or Save… Stripes & Florals, Inspired By The Pages Of Marie Claire!

While preparing for the imminent hurricane, I’ve gathered plenty of reading materials that will have to suffice as both entertainment & education in case of a power outage.  I have Monday & Tuesday off from work b/c of this Sandy nuisance, so I was starting to refer back to some of my favorite magazine articles that I checked out while at work & this page from Marie Claire sticks out most in my mind.  The latest issue, which features the lovely Ashley Greene, actress from The Twilight Saga & spokesmodel for DKNY, on its cover.  However, I posted this image on my Instagram (@MissAlissaL), sharing the daring dud combination of stripes & florals- one I’ve yet to explore.

Of course any Style Darling would be lucky to own any of the pictured items from page 72 of MC (ranging in price from $44.95 – $565.00, from brands like Sergio Rossi, Coach, Chris Benz, Kate Spade, & more); however, I wanted to share my version of this page, hoping to see this trend done right without breaking the bank!

My recommendations all cost under $50.00 per item & will certainly help transform your fall favorites into fresh, new outfits to wear to work, going on a date, a family occasion, or a party.  We know how figure flattering pencil skirts are, so I stuck with the idea of a floral pencil skirt, matching with uncomplicated basic stripes, as well as strong neutral accessories.  The jewelry has enough visual interest to add the perfect amount of dimension for an evening occasion, while still looking expensive & luxurious.

First, I’m sharing a plus size look, which can be built from the lace pencil skirt ($40.00) @Eloquii by The Limited, available in sizes 14W-24W. Yes, I see that this isn’t a basic floral print, but the flower concept is in the feminine lace details. To help make the elegant skirt pop, I’ve added the Extra Touch plus-size top ($19.99) from Macy’s, which is also available in green, fuchsia, & purple. To finish off the look, I turned to Torrid for the patent system heel ($26.70) in red, which is available in size 7-13 wide width.  Also, the Candie’s two tone bead multistrand necklace ($7.20) is from Kohl’s & can be worn over any graphic tee, with an LBD, or to add a splash of personality to a solid cardigan.

My next looks run in misses sizes, including New York & Company‘s tapestry print wrap skirt with pleating ($46.95) in black plum, but this can also be bought in saffron. Since the print is so busy, I wanted to stick to an all-flattering stripe with the striped cowlneck waffle tee ($29.95) in black & white from the Gap. The neckline of the top is pronounced, so I opted for the patent hip belt ($4.80) in eggplant from Forever 21 over a necklace & matched it with the Moda Spana Nadine patent pump ($29.94) from DSW.

The third look is definitely a bold statement, mixing the floral pencil skirt ($24.99) from The Limited with Forever 21‘s cream & navy striped 3/4 sleeve top ($10.80). The Brash Kosmic platform pump ($29.99) in tan suede from Payless & BaubleBar‘s triple tear pendant ($26.00) are neutral pieces that can be mixed with any variety of casual, office, & evening looks.

Look’s #1-3 total out to $93.89, $111.64, & $91.78, respectively. That’s a pretty amazing deal for such versatile pieces that will work with jeans, skinny pants, button-down shirts, & other wardrobe staples. Would you dare to wear stripes & florals? Which of these looks is your favorite? How much would you spend on an outfit like this?

Show Me The Shoes: The Must-Have Booties For Fall From Payless!

There’s nothing I love more about fall than booties, which reminds me to share with readers that I’ve been featuring some of my favorite footwear picks this season on Style Darling‘s Instagram (@MissAlissaL).  I’m not afraid of color this season, however sometimes you need neutrals to make the other essential pieces in your outfit pop, which is where these shoes come in.

Sometimes also known as shooties, I love the strong look behind these ultra sleek shoes, which offer enough length in the legline, as well as a luxe texture.  The Fioni vice bootie ($49.99) from Payless has a stellar 4-inch heel, perfect for pairing with any patterned tights look & a pencil skirt for the office, embossed leggings & a tunic sweater, & a cardigan with dark denim jeans.

Of course, $49.99 is on the higher side of prices for Payless, but if you sign up for emails from Payless, you’ll receive updates on sales, coupon codes, & the latest markdowns! There’s no doubt that these are shoes are a smart investment for your fall / winter wardrobe, which will last for future seasons to come! Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: Revamp Your Fall Wardrobe With Affordable Accessories!

Since I spend most of my week surrounded by the younger generation of trendsetters, I’ve found that there are still a careful few of college age who actually take the time to get dressed in the morning before heading to class… just a few. Working in the academic arena has forced me to look to my wardrobe & try & switch things up in a professional, but relatable way so that I’m seen as an authority figure, but also someone who the students would like to talk to. I’m excited to explore my wardrobe & find great fall pieces to make this semester a memorable & stylish one, but every now & again, I need to refresh some basics & go-to classics with that latest accessories, which is why I’m happy to share my newest post for The $100 Challenge!

For under $100 (before tax), I’ve selected these 8 accessories to try wearing for a number of occasions this season with favorites that are transitioning from the summer & stand-by items making a return now that the temps are lowering.  Every year, I’ll always be talking about patterned tights & since I’m always shopping on a budget, I manage to grab up a bunch of different styles to match with pencil skirts & sheath dresses.  Get a polished look with the sheer stripe patterned tight ($7.50) from Charlotte Russe, especially when worn with something frilly & feminine like a lace overlay pencil skirt.  Cinch in your waist with a fun animal print with the zebra-print faux-leather belts ($16.00) from Old Navy, which will look especially polished with a bold cardigan.  I love anything black & white, which is also why I’ve picked out Forever 21‘s fringed houndstooth scarf ($6.80) to tuck in your lightweight jacket for those windier fall mornings.  If it’s not needed around your neck, you can always transform your tote back by tieing ir around the straps or body of the bag.

I’ve been trying to expand my jewelry pieces, which is I was drawn to the lemon drop long earrings ($22.90) from The Limited, which look like neutral & luxe additions to any LBD look, or if you want to make a plaid shirt & skinny jeans appear less casual.  For simpler necklines, I love the idea of a collar necklace, but also, the Sonoma life + style gold tone multistrand necklace ($15.60) from Kohl’s punches up any basic with the metallic accents, instantly drawing all focus to your face.  The burnt gold tear drop bracelet ($10.90) from Windsor Store is a fun pop of color to wear with any three-quarter sleeve top, or contrast with another rich jewel tone ensemble.

Lastly, I love the affordable price & classic look of the Minicci capulet rhinestone sunglasses ($9.99) from Payless, especially if you’re trying to save on must-have items when the holiday season is just around the corner.  Not to mention that you’re going to need to hide those peep toe pumps on occasion & cover your toes with some allover argyle socks ($7.95) from Gap. What better way to show off your preppy side than with this menswear-inspired print that’ll work well with any trouser & button-down shirt look?

The total for this look comes to $97.64, which is pretty incredible considering the variety in which these pieces can be alternated all season long.  Are you a scarf-fiend? Do you love chunky jewelry or do you prefer dainty pieces? Are you drawn to particular prints or patterns for your accessories this fall? Happy Styling!

Fabulous In 4 Ways: A Metallic Faux Leather Pencil Skirt For The Ages From New York & Company!

I was so excited in August to share one of my newest categories, Fabulous in 4 Ways, especially since the debut post was dedicated to my good friend Laurie, as inspired by her fabulous lace-up knee boots from Victoria’s Secret!  Now, I’m talking about faux leather & pencil skirts, but before we dive into the outfits, I turned to some of my favorite celebrities to get some inspiration in how I would style such a classy & modern take on the figure flattering piece.

Kate Bosworth rocks a Proenza Schouler leather-trimmed pencil skirt at the brand’s New York boutique opening with a relaxed white blouse & strappy sandals.  The First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore a high-waist pencil skirt in navy with a cropped cardigan & purple top, while visiting a Wisconsin school.  Mad Men bombshell Christina Hendricks mixes her old school glamour with a Dolce & Gabbana blouse, red clutch, & classic black pencil skirt.

Total Recall star Kate Beckinsale plays with colorblocking with a chic H&M tank, Diane von Furstenberg turquoise skirt, & spiked neutral pumps.  Rashida Jones is polished & professional with a touch of menswear while making an appearance on Good Morning America, wearing a printed button down shirt & white pencil skirt.  Aussie starlet Cate Blanchett showed her support for Givenchy in a head-to-toe look with Roger Vivier heels.

Also, at Fashion Week for the upcoming Spring-Summer 2013 runway collections, the pencil silhouette was everywhere, as seen in Runway Rundown posts, including Dolce & Gabbana, Burberry Prorsum, Christopher Kane, & Oscar de la Renta.  Also, these pieces were shared by more fabulous designers like Nina Ricci, Tadashi Shoji, & Salvatore Ferragamo!

To recreate a pencil skirt look, I’ve selected the faux leather bronze pencil skirt ($59.95) in metallic bronze from New York & Company, which challenged me to find a way to wear this for work, day, date, & cocktail occasions.  If you want to get the most out of your wardrobe for the office, check out the zippered contrast sweater ($24.80) in black from Forever 21 with the short tab sleeves top ($24.80) in teal available @Windsor Store.  The colorblocking & relaxed details tone down the metallic texture of the skirt, especially when paired with Express‘ diamond texture body shaping full tights ($22.90) & suede cap toe chunky heels ($21.50) in black from GOjane.

The look to the right (above) is fun for a day with the girls or feeling like mixing it up because of the contrasting details in Lord & Taylor‘s CK JEANS cable-front cotton cardigan ($29.99) in black over the tab-sleeve plaid-chiffon shirts ($29.94) in black combo from Old Navy.  Of course affordable pieces like these can be reworked with skinny jeans or leggings & chunky accessories.  @Payless, I’ve found the Dexflex Maye strappy boot ($59.99) in black & Minicci micro fiber tights ($6.99) in burgundy to add some extra dimension while playing with trends this fall.

Depending on where you’re headed for a date, this kind of pencil skirt is perfect for an elegant & upscale look, without breaking the bank.  I’ve chosen pieces with luxe details to put this look together, including the Jennifer Lopez pleated mesh overlay tank ($19.80) in tuffet from Kohl’s & glitter lace almond tow pump ($38.50) in champagne from Charlotte Russe.  To complete the ladylike feel, I’ve added the round stone drop earrings ($13.60) @Cache & The Limited‘s zip around wallet ($29.90).

Don’t forget that pencil skirts are perfect for building a sexy cocktail look. Of course, a dress will save you lots of time, but to get the most out of your wardrobe, why not play with separates in unexpected ways with the snake-print tiered bustier ($88.00) in amethyst from White House Black Market, paired with the Emma WP platform pump ($39.99) from Bakers Shoes.  Also, I love Forever 21‘s looped drop earrings ($7.80), which look red carpet ready, especially with the Mossimo basket weave print clutch ($16.99) in black & white @Target.

How would you wear this pencil skirt? Are you following the metallics trend? What are your favorite work, day, date, & cocktail looks? Happy Styling!

9/29/2012 Darling Of The Day / The $100 Challenge: Olivia Wilde’s Little Black Dress Look For Under $100!

Actress Olivia Wilde is one of the most in-demand beauties hitting red carpets & every time she makes an appearance, the photogs emerge & fashion critics pay attention.  During a recent appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the former House star dazzled in square neck black A.L.C. dress with Iwona Ludyga Design jewelry & red accented accessories.

Although I wasn’t able to recreate the exact little black dress, I’m crazy for this figure-flattering dress ($34.95) from H&M, which is also available in burgundy.

Luckily, I was able to find affordable accessories to bring this look together, including the metal trim waist belt ($4.80) from Forever 21, the Fioni glitz clutch ($16.99) from Payless, GOjane‘s low cut pumps ($23.80), & the dazzling Apt. 9 gold tone simulated crystal linear drop earrings ($13.00) from Kohl’s.

The total for this bargain look comes to $93.54, which fits perfectly for The $100 Challenge. For more Darling of the Day posts, check out other Olivias, including Olivia Palermo & Olivia Munn! Also, if you’re looking for more fabulous looks worn by Ms. Wilde, check out more images featuring maxi dresses, a Prada gallery, peplum hemlines, as well as her latest look in a Top 10 Celeb Sightings gallery! Happy Styling!

Splurge or Save… On Classic Polka Dot Tights?

What better way to spruce up a fall wardrobe & amp up your office style than by playing with different patterns & textures when it comes to hosiery. You can find virtually anything these days, however I’m partial to classics like zebra & houndstooth. The most feminine & universally-stylish of them all is polka dots.  I must have at least four pairs of polka dot tights, especially since they look great against more masculine prints like argyle on a cardigan & can really make plaids pop.  Of course, when it comes to tights, you always have to consider quality to ensure no snags or runs, so I always advise that garments like these are an investment, especially when you find a reliable & comfortable brand.

I’ve selected five pairs, ranging in price from some of my favorite stores, including the Falke dots tights ($44.00) from Bloomingdale’s, DKNY dotted tights ($25.00) from Nordstrom, sheer small dot full tights ($16.90) from Express, Simply Vera Vera Wang polka dot control top tights ($9.99) from Kohl’s– which are regularly priced at $14.00, & Minicci swiss dot tights ($7.99) @Payless.

How would you wear polka dot tights? How much are you willing to spend on hosiery? How often do you wear tights? Do you prefer them for work or a night out? For more fabulous Splurge or Save? posts, check out burgundy & oxblood blouses & leopard ballet flats! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: Last Day Of Summer Sale Items ($15.00 & Under)!

Today is officially the last day of summer & tomorrow starts the fall. I’ve probably never been so sad to see the summer end (even though I’m crazy for suede & booties right now). It was an especially lovely season, partly b/c I was a free bird all over Long Island & had a great time with my boyfriend & friends.  Of course, now that my birthday is over & I’m back to school (working for one & no longer a student!), I still can’t get those last-minute summer deals out of my mind.  I didn’t have to look very hard to find these five very stylish pieces to include for a special post, all for $15.00 or under!

First, the racerback rugby stripes tank ($1.99) from Forever 21 is perfect to wear still, but for fall, you have to keep in mind that fall is all about layering.  This bright pop of color can be worn under a button-down shirt & sweater vest or cardigan.  Of course, yellow isn’t necessarily the color of the season, but it’s still fun to add against something red or cobalt!  Also, even though here on the east cost, it’s getting too chilly even during the day for shorts, but if you’re headed on vacation soon or traveling south where the summer sun is still beaming, check out the patterned shorts ($15.00) from Old Navy that are available in dark tone chambray (pictured above), as well as navy stripe & green stripe.

I love checking out what’s going on @J.Crew, which is where I found the perfect-fit tee ($14.99) in light blade & deep turquoise, however you’ll also be able to score this tee is spice for $9.99.  These colors are fun to mix up by colorblocking with a pencil skirt, trousers, or leggings & some chunky, oversized accessories or printed scarves.  For those who love daring prints, check out the floral/houndstooth printed mirror t-shirt dress ($12.00) from Windsor Store, which is a mini that calls for opaque tights & a boyfriend blazer.  I’m not saying you have to hide your shape in this flattering frock, but another way to keep it seasonal & fresh is by adding a belt & a knit cardigan.

Lastly, I’m crazy for the American Eagle sparkling flip-flop ($6.00 – $9.99) from Payless.  This pewter hue is higher in price, but they’re available in eleven other colors to help fulfill all of your flip-flop needs, especially if you’re headed for a hot tub or looking to something with some sheen for next season! What are you shopping for on this last day of summer? Do you have a favorite store where you love to shop clearance? Happy Styling!

Splurge Or Save… On Leopard Print Flats?

I recently had a very insightful discussion on the preferences of animal print, how to wear it & what the essentials are for one’s wardrobe (yes, this really happened). Of course I’m crazy for zebra (with a purse, flats, sheets, laundry bin, skirt, etc…), however leopard print just won’t go away, & why should it? I own a satin pair of ballerina flats with a fabulous leopard print & bow-crystal accent at the heel.  They’re super comfortable & perfect for any casual look or fashionable dinner with the girls.

In my newest category (yes, the creativity just keeps pouring out- see Fabulous in 4 Ways), Splurge or Save? will investigate an item at different price points.  Staples like leopard print flats can be found virtually anywhere, especially this time of year when we’re preparing our fall wardrobes for chic splashes of personality when the weather becomes crisper.

As you can see, we have a little celebrity inspiration joining us. Fashion icon Alexa Chung wears her pointed toe leopard flats with a menswear-inspired shirtdress, reinforcing why she’s just so darn fun to watch.  Designer Whitney Port looks sweet mixing prints in her Whitney Eve outfit & leopard flats.  Socialite Olivia Palermo, who’s been everywhere lately it seems, breaks out in a feminine floral shorts look & some bowed leopard flats.  However, now that we’ve seen some of Style Darling‘s favorite celebrities wearing leopard print flats, let’s take a look at what I’ve found, ranging in price from $14.99 – $275.00!

The above five shoes range quite a bit in price, but each share the same concept of a bow detail & black trim around the foot, which emphasize the classic design of a ballet flat.  First, the RED Valentino leopard print ballerina flat ($275.00) from Neiman Marcus would cost you just over $10/wear if you wore them once every other week. Perhaps this doesn’t sound so bad, but dropping the cash to buy them initially will put a big dent in any shopper’s budget.  I’d feel lucky to the proud owner of any Valentino piece, but at this point in my life, such luxuries will only appear on Super Style Wishlist.  Next, the Ashley bow ballet flat ($98.00) from Banana Republic will earn you plenty of rewards points for future discounts if you’re a cardholder, but the fact that this style of ballet flat is available in other such trendy textures like tweed, patent leather, croc, houndstooth, metallic, & suede will certainly suit your shopping fancies.

While clicking around @Nine West, I discovered the Cacey flats ($79.00), which serve double purpose with the patent leather cap toe accenting the wild print.  However, the cost-per-wear for these is down to $3/wear, if worn once every other week.  NOTE: Select designs of this shoe (polka dots & pink colorblock leather) are currently reduced to $29.00 on the website! Moving on… I was pleasantly surprised to find that ALDO‘s clearance section included the Warnack flats ($35.00) which have been reduced from their original $70.00 price tag.  The metal tips on the bow add some extra detail to what surely will be an already polished look.

Lastly, the most affordable pair in our collection includes the American Eagle Flash flat ($14.99) @Payless– my go-to source for shoes.  I know I can always rely on Payless for comfortable, yet stylish shoes that work with my budget, especially when I’m on the go & can’t always take the time to go shopping in a store. When ordering online, Payless offers FREE SHIPPING if your purchase is shipped to a store location, which always makes me happy.  Since these are the least expensive of all of the selections, I’d like to inform readers that the CPW (again, cost-per-wear) now becomes less than .60/wear.  If you plan on wearing them more than once every other week- & I don’t blame you b/c they’re just so cute!- you’re still getting a bargain for a reliable must-have when building an outfit.

How much would you spend on a pair of leopard flats? This sort of investment will keep paying your back, since these versatile statements of footwear can go with you to the office, school, on a date, or wherever your day may lead you. I know I’m a sucker for a good deal, but when it comes to shoes, there are a few other factors to consider like fit, how well the texture is made, if I like the print, & so on. What about you? What would you do? Would you splurge or save? Happy Styling!

Fabulous in 4 Ways: Over-The-Knee Boots From Victoria’s Secret (Dedicated To Laurie)!

Attention Style Darling Readers: We have a new category alert! Fabulous In 4 Ways is my latest in offering the best style advice that I can, while keeping a budget in mind. Of course, I’ve had this idea (taking one item & showing how it’s worn in 4 fabulous ways) for a while now, just sitting away & linkless on my categories page, but just recently, a good friend has come to me w/ a deal on a killer pair of over-the-knee boots, asking for help on how to wear them once the temperatures cool down & heavy knits emerge from the depths of our closets.  Said friend, Laurie (who I’ve dedicated a total of 4 blogs to now- Jordana Brewster’s style, how to wear turtlenecks, & the best day-to-night blazers) has challenged me in a very good & very stylish way. Let’s take a look…

As I usually do in my Basics for a Bargain posts, let’s start off with some celebrity inspiration to see how some of the most photographed & stylish stars interpret their over-the-knee boot looks. The City star / socialite Olivia Palermo looks Upper East Side chic with her navy suede boots & fur-lined jacket, mixing neutrals with a sweater tunic. Mom-on-the-go Kourtney Kardashian wears her boots with a flowy blouse under a menswear-inspired blazer & floppy hat, keeping accessories like her bag matching in texture with her footwear. Supermodel legend Claudia Schiffer goes casual in jeggings & a cobalt cable knit sweater with a coordinating bag for her tan suede over-the-knee boots. Former Spice Girl / designer Victoria Beckham keeps her polished posh persona in check with ultra tight leggings, a black top, & satin-trimmed blazer while traveling through Heathrow airport. Lastly, Project Runway host Heidi Klum offers an edgy approach to her leather Jimmy Choo over-the-knee boots by completing her look with a graphic tee & abstract print blazer.

The boots inspiring this post are the Colin Stuart over-the-knee boots ($94.00) from Victoria’s Secret, which are on sale for less than their original $118.00 price tag (pictured below, to the left).  These are fierce confections of footwear meant only for the confident Style Darling (for example: Laurie!).  Even though these may seem much pricier than your average pump &/or ankle bootie, I can’t emphasize enough that this is an investment piece, especially one that you can dare to wear from the beginning of fall, all the way to the end of the winter.  Since we’re talking boots, VS is currently having a 20% off sale on all Colin Stuart boots, which you can shop here.

However, let’s get down to business in putting together these outfits wth some of the celebrity inspiration seen above.  Typically when I see boots, I think of sweaters & leggings b/c they’re both just so comfy & very on-trend for effortless fall looks.  My first ensemble includes the asymmetric hem sweater ($59.90) from Express, which is available in orchid, black, grey, & blue.  The loose fit is perfect for recalling that 80s off-the-shoulder bulky sweater look, as well as hugging your curves to show off your legs.  Just so you know, Express is currently having a mix & match BOGO 50% off sale this Labor Day weekend, so if you really love the look pictured, then check out the short metal stick necklace ($44.90) to go with the sweater. I’ve selected Forever 21‘s pebbled pointe knit leggings ($17.80), which will add some texture & shine against the rich suede of the boots.  Of course, any solid legging will do, but if you’re going for something with a print, keep it subtle since you’re dealing with a sexy lace-up detail in the back of the boots.

My second outfit is perfect for an office environment where jeans are allowed.  The Faded Glory jeggings ($12.88) from Walmart are a steal & can work with so many other wardrobe staples all year long.  The colored denim trend is obviously not going away & pairing it with White House Black Market‘s tweed trophy jacket ($188.00) is a professional & elegant way to dress up denim.  When shopping @WHBM, of course the regular prices are on the high side, but if you sign up for their seasonal catalogues, you can get discount codes, as well as earn points for reductions on future purchases. I find that comes in handy around the holidays when in a pinch for a cute cocktail dress.  For an extra feminine splash, I’ve selected the graphic checkered strips tiered cotton tank ($39.99) from LOFT to add some dimension- which also just so happens to marked down another 30% at checkout.

Look #3 required a little more attention since I wanted to find pieces that would work for more than just the over-the-knee boots challenge.  I started with this streaky knit t-shirt dress ($39.99) from The Limited, which has been marked down 50% on the store’s website. With a solid sheath-like dress as this, I immediately thought of a belt & found this duo of ivory cheetah & glossy black skinny belts ($10.79) from Bluefly. To keep warm during the cooler fall days, I picked out the basic, yet affordable Style & Co. three-quarter ruched sleeve cardigan ($14.99) in black from Macy’s. If you’re headed out to happy hour with the girls or going from the office to an evening function, this look is perfect with the boots, especially when the Minicci scroll weave tights ($7.99) from Payless are hiding underneath your layers.

Lastly, the forth look is my favorite, but perhaps not too far of a departure from the previous blazer look above.  When I saw the Merona tailored blazer ($34.99) @Target, I immediately loved the idea of mixing the plaid with the laces, as well as navy & black, along with integrating the fall’s best new neutral deep red hue with New York & Company‘s satiny roll-tab shirt ($39.95). Of course you can complete the look with skinny pants, but Style & Co. skinny stretch jeggings ($36.75) from Macy’s looked too good to be true in a classic dark wash!

What do you think of these looks? Would you wear over-the-knee boots? If so, how would you style your look with them? What boots are you shopping for this fall? Happy Styling!

Show Me The Shoes / Inside A Style Blogger’s Closet: Pretty Patent Peep Toes With Bows From Payless (+ Coupon Codes)!

I confess. I splurged. I bought a pair of shoes for which I have no immediate need, aside from the sudden smile they brought to my face & the hopes that said smile would thrive each time I saw the shoes.  Aren’t these perfection? The Valencia bow pump ($44.99) from Payless by Lela Rose is nothing short of feminine, polished, elegant, & timeless.  I love the combination of patent leather & the satin bow, especially since I’m always looking for new textures to help complete a look.  Since I’m currently on the hunt for a job, spending $44.99 on ANY pair of shoes just isn’t logical, but I’m a smart & savvy Style Darling & had some coupon offers in my email from Payless. I received $10 off my purchase & walked out of the store $10 richer, but with $34.99 less in my wallet.

However, I am not lamenting b/c I’ve since accumulated a few coupon codes for Payless that I’d like to share with readers, all for the same $10 off a purchase of $25 or more offer.  This includes 74685, 75762, & 75453 each with the a 9/3/12 expiration.  I can’t post images of the coupons online since they’re codes from receipts or postal mail offers, but these can be used for online purchases.  Don’t worry about shipping costs with Payless since they offer FREE SHIPPING when you have your order (on any total amount) shipped to one of their store locations.  Be sure to sign up for emails from Payless to get all the latest updates on sales & even more coupon codes in the future!

Also, Style Darling is covering all blog/web bases with updates to Instagram (@MissAlissaL) as well, so be sure to check out what I’m sharing on a daily basis during my spur of the moment shopping outings, or if I’m just browsing around for something to ogle at! Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Lovely Loafer’s By Christian Siriano For Fall At Payless!

I haven’t been super crazed about fall fashions- until now. I was looking through the Payless website to see what was going on, especially by my favorite Project Runway designer Christian Siriano, which is when I found the Lambert loafer pumps ($34.99) in multi. They are also sold in black & grey, perfect for mixing up your fall separates, including tweed jackets, textured tights, & printed scarves.  This plaid is special b/c I love the color combination that can pick up on rich reds, florals in coral, or darks like green or grey.  I’ve decided to feature the shoe in my latest installment of Quickie Darling Deal & Steal since it’s time to start thinking about the fall.

How would you style these pumps? Is the 4.5-inch heel too tall for you? What shoe styles are you looking forward to adding to your autumn apparel? Happy Styling!

7/12/2012 Darling Of The Day / Basics For A Bargain: Anne Hathaway’s Cropped ‘Do, LBDs, & Audrey Hepburn Inspiration!

Anne Hathaway has hit the red carpet with a reinvented classic retro vibe, cad with her pixie cut (for Les Miserables), little black dresses, basic black shoes, & elegance pendant necklaces.  The Oscar-nominee is in full swing promoting her latest film, the major summer blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises. The Style Darling‘s looks are elegant, contemporary, youthful, & worth making her the Darling of the Day.

Since I couldn’t pick just one look that I loved, I decided to share the four most recent images of her Audrey Hepburn-inspired style.  Her short ‘do is perfectly understated while these leg-baring frocks reveal that the actress isn’t slowing down her glamour game just yet.  Included in these images are dresses by Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, & Givenchy, paired with Tory Burch ankle strap sandals.

Since there are so many fabulous details in the dresses above, I’ve found some affordable LBDs to help recreate Anne’s breathtaking noir turn.  First from Forever 21, we have the shawl collar surplice dress ($27.80) & the mesh yoke bodycon dress ($24.80), which is available in sizes XL – 3X. H&M has this belted dress ($34.95) which moves beautifully & can be dressed up with peep toes or worn casually with flats.  To show off your shape, I recommend the ponte knit sheath dress ($48.93) from Express.  If you’re looking to imitate the feel of Anne’s forth look above, head over to Lulu’s for the Motown black dress ($38.00). Lastly, since we are talking about one of the most sought after actresses in all the land, we need to step up our style game just a little & share the Jessica Howard sequin cap sleeve dress ($70.00) @JCP

Lastly, to help complete the look, I’ve searched high & low for some of the best accessories. This includes the Forever 21 oval locket necklace ($5.80) & floral pendant necklace ($1.50).  In addition, my shoe choices include the Brash Gemini flat ($26.99) from Payless (which I’ve previously featured in champagne), Charlotte Russe‘s fabric mouse ballet flat ($30.00), sueded ankle wrap pump ($35.50), & Michael Antonio Loveme patent pump ($40.00) @Zappos.

Which of Anne’s looks do you like the best? Would you ever rock a pixie cut? How do you feel about all the black-on-black? All comments & suggestions are always welcome, so please share! Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: My Favorite New Wedges!

I know I last posted about an amazing deal on Christian Siriano shoes from Payless, but this Father’s Day weekend, I happened to be at my local Payless store when I came across these Mallory wood wedge sandal ($16.99).  I tried them on just for fun, but fell in love right away.  They were different than any other wedge that I had & for once, I actually loved the combination of the thick straps & the multiple thin straps.  Of course, I have no idea what to wear them with (for the moment), but I scrambled through my emails on my iPhone to find the 20% off coupon code.  The box showed a marked down price of $24.99 from its original $29.99, but was I gleeful when they rang up for $16.99.  After my coupon, these wedges came out to an impressive $14 & change.  I’m saving them for one very special day, but I’ll be sure to post pics since these shoes are just too good to be true! They’re also available black, brown, coral, & pewter with alternating gold or silver accents.

These shoes are still on sale & if you’re looking to build up your summer footwear collection, then be sure to check out the latest BOGO 50% off sale going on right now @Payless!

What would you wear these wedges with? For more fabulous finds, check out my previous posts from Quickie Darling Deal & Steal, including a Parisian necklace from ModCloth, lacy heels @GOjane, & a super sale on Charlotte Russe belts! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: New Markdowns On Christian Siriano Shoes For Payless!

Always & forever, Christian Siriano, will be one of my favorite Project Runway winners, especially since he continues to stay relevant with shoppers beyond the runway with his ever-evolving collection @Payless.  Aside from his styles being super chic for the mainstream public, I’m loving that his designs, like these Rosa strappy toe sandals ($29.99), are currently marked down from their original $62.99 price! These are daring heels, especially with such a slim 4.5-inch heel, but with the right simmer dress & accessories, you’ll look like you spent a lot of money on a look that’s so affordable that only a true Style Darling will understand!

There’s no such thing as too many shoes, especially when you have two very eager feet to wear them! I should also mention that Payless is offering a special in-store & online Father’s Day 20% discount code: 73574, valid until 6/17 only! Also, for a little bit of Project Runway news, the newest seasons starts 7/19 @10pm on Lifetime! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Embrace Embellished Flats by Brash from Payless!

I’ve been a very busy blogger on a super duper tight budget, not treating myself to anything style-related.  My wardrobe was literally keeping me up one night, crying & sobbing through the closet doors b/c I won’t let it make any new friends! Okay, that’s enough of that metaphor, but as a reward to myself for doing so well this semester (one night class at the community college), I took my 20% off coupon from Payless & went to check out what was going on.  I’m on the hunt for some cute, feminine purple flip flops, but came across these Brash Gemini flats ($29.99) in champagne.  Normally, I wouldn’t spend that much on flats, but since this was the only purchase I’d made in quite some time, I knew that I was making a much-needed investment since my current commute for work requires flats.

I took the plunge & continued to bring my own lunch to work for yet another week, but at least these flats will last me longer than any over-priced takeout.  While I did have a minute of buyer’s remorse after I left the store, I quickly got over it b/c I knew that I deserved to feel good about all of my recent hard work, thus represented in a pair of embellished rock-star flats like these! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Grab BOGO Deals With Suede Platform Sandals from Payless!

Not that long ago, I featured some of the ads from the recent Candie’s for Kohl’s campaign starring Glee‘s Lea Michele in colorful suede platform sandals.  Well, it appears that Payless is on board with the trend with these Jupiter platform sandals ($29.99) by Brash. Right now, Payless is celebrating spring with a limited time BOGO 50% off sale, so this deal is even better than the one @Kohl’s.  Of course, you have your pick of colors, especially since Payless is offering the stylish sandals in tan, black, coral, & purple / pink.  These are the perfect addition to make your LBD a little more flirty, a pencil skirt more playful, & akinny jeans ready for a night out on the town.

Don’t forget that when you order shoes online from Payless, if you have them shipped to your local store, shipping is FREE! That sounds like a pretty awesome deal if you ask me! What do you think about these sandals? What would you wear them with? For more top shoe picks, check out posts featuring sandals by Sofia Vergara @KMart, neon jellies @Express, & ankle-strap espadrilles from Old Navy. Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: Two Stylish Spring Looks, Under $100 Each!

There’s just so much to be excited about this spring & I know I’ve yet to post a complete outfit look! I’m psyched to share these two spring-ready ensembles, which cost under $100 each, hence why I’m featuring them in The $100 Challenge! However, this is a first for the category since I’m sharing with readers a look for Style Darlings who wear regular sizes & plus sizes, which can usually be seen in Darling of the Day.  I’m always encouraging readers to embrace their shapes b/c no matter what you look like, you can always have amazing style!

Let’s start with the plus-size look, which consists of many items from Forever 21‘s Plus 21 line.  It’s affordable & plus-size friendly, featuring casual apparel, as well as dressy duds.  There, you can find the peacock feather print top ($14.80), fringe trim open cardigan ($24.80), sleeping teddy bear shopper tote ($1.50), lace web medallion earrings ($2.80), & night sky bangles ($4.80). I also included the Fantasy jegging capris ($29.99) from Dress Barn & American Eagle Miles espadrille wedges ($19.99) in white from Payless b/c they’re available in wide width for those of you who are troubled by narrow-fitting shoes.  The grand total for this adorable casual & chic look is $98.68!

As for the look on the right, I also did some digging around @Forever 21 & found the striped rose tunic ($17.80) & frayed stripes scarf ($6.80). Then @Old Navy, I choose the crossbody saddle purse ($11.99) & satin covered bracelets ($10.50). To complete the looks, I found the Mossimo Supply Co. capri leggings ($8.00) from Target, Jennifer Lopez silver tone hoop drop earrings ($13.50) from Kohl’s, & Ciao Bella Ballad foldable flat ($19.94) from DSW. The total for this look is $99.03!

I love that both of these looks include pieces that can be dressed in so many different ways with items that we already own in our closet.  try the capris with a three-quarter sleeve button down & some ballet flats.  Of how about the crossbody bag & bangles with printed shorts romper? Oh the possibilities are endless! Which items are your favorites? How would you style these tops & bottoms? Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Flat Fever For Spring!

I’ve made it no secret that I’ve been super busy these last few weeks b/c of my full-time job for Ladies Outfitters.  I’ve had to change the whole way I get ready for work in the morning since I’m a commuter on the train & have to do plenty of walking to the subways & then to the office.  In turn, my relationship with my feet has changed.  I’ll never relinquish my love for high heels, but I have to be reasonable in considering footwear since so much of my getting to & from work is by foot.  Therefore, I’m yet again featuring flats!

Easter is just around the corner, which means that all sorts of flats are currently out & about in stores! This includes flirty floral patterns, brights in patent, & neutral textures that can be worn with several different looks.  I’m mad for these Dexter Claire scrunch flats ($19.99) in ivory & black from Payless since the colors are right up my alley & they offer plenty of comforting support in the insole, which is perfect for a writer-on-the-go like myself.

I’m currently in possession of a 20% off coupon (code: 66284, expires 4/8/12), which gives me a whole week to try & find these shoes.  They’re out of stock on the website in my size, but perhaps one of these nights, I can find them at one of the many store locations in my area!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: We’re Swooning Over Christian Siriano’s Spring Collection @Payless!

Now that spring is officially here, I’m stoked about all the new styles of spring shoes coming out! As always, I’m featuring designs from my favorite affordable shoe store, Payless! I make no apologies for that, especially when Project Runway winner Christian Siriano continues to create beyond beautiful confections of footwear for the masses.

This hyperbolic statement of course refers to the t-strap wedges ($19.99) in turquoise. Details like the patent leather straps, basketweave wedge, and t-strap across the ankle make this a diverse pair of go-to shoes for the spring & summer.

I love how they’re multi-toned, but still easy to wear with so many different looks, including a floral spring dress & cardigan, graphic tee & boyfriend jeans, polka-dotted blouse & walking shorts, or silky cami & mini skirt.

The wedges are currently on sale, marked down from their original $29.99 price!  This also includes the black, coral, and wide-width turquoise styles!

For more of the fabulousness that is footwear, check out posts like animal print flats from Nine West, Lea Michele modeling for Candie’s, & gorgeous creations from Prada, Valentino, & Christian Louboutin!

If you’d like to read more about the popular designer, Style Darling has plenty of Christian Siriano love for you to indulge, including his new ad campaign starring actress Mena Suvari and some classic round toe pumps in nude & black!

What do you think about these wedges? Are they too high for you? Are you a loyal Payless shopper? Do you like Christian Siriano’s designs? Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Be Brash This Spring With Wedges From Payless!

Spring is in the air! I feel it!! So get walking to your nearest Payless where you can find all the new spring arrivals from their brand, Brash.  The Mallory wedge sandal ($29.99) in black is a new favorite of mine, especially since I’ve been eyeing those spring dresses of mine in the back of my closet.

These wedges are also available in brown & coral, with croc & gold studding accents on the side.  They’re the best way to dress down a little black dress for day & easy to slip on with you favorite pair of capris & a flirty floral blouse.

While you’re doing some shopping around online, be sure to hit up some of my latest blog posts for Ladies Outfitters, also featuring some darling wedges by Apple Bottoms. Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Starting Off 2012 In Style & On The Right Foot!

Dear Style Darling Readers, My endless apologies for my nearly month-long absence, but due to my amazing trip to Italy & subsequent illness that sidelined me for a whole week after my return, I’d like to make January count for something on here, so let’s talk about shoes!

Since I’ve been in bed, ignoring all email alerts for sales on the latest spring styles, my first stop (once I peeled myself out of misery & a layer of tissues) was Payless.  I was happy to find the La Femme pumps ($32.99) by Christian Siriano, my very favorite winner of Project Runway.

Not only are they perfect for transitioning your winter / fall wardrobe, but the price is pretty awesome too! Right now, Payless is offering their fabulous Buy One, Get One 50% off sale, so spending $33 on a pair of pumps isn’t such a bad deal.

Of course, this isn’t the first time I’m talking about classic black pumps or sleek nude patent pumps, but these will really never go out of style!  They’re perfect for pairing with something a little wild, or even if you’d like to keep your look streamlined & professional. For more shoe-related posts, check out the sales @Nine West, how to get green for 2012, & rich rust heels from Lulu’s! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Replace The LBD With This All-Over Lace Dress from Topshop!

Need some ideas for putting together an elegant New Year’s Eve look?  Of course LBDs are classic go-to options, but how about something in lace?  This bonded lace pencil dress ($45.00) from Topshop is currently marked down from $80.00!

I added some accessories to help build the look in many different directions.  Try a pop of color in modest heels like the ‘Influence’ bow pump ($19.99) in red from Payless, or go a little daring micro fiber tassel side zip platform bootie ($22.95) in black from GOjane.

To help cinch in your waist, try a tonal belt like the geometric glitter stretch belt ($9.50) from Charlotte Russe, which will add a contrasting deco feel to the already elegant look.  Also, when it comes to jewelry, a busy dress like this one demands refined pieces like the MixIt jet black statement necklace ($21.99) from JC Penney, or @Kohl’s you can find the silver tone multi-strand bracelet ($19.60) by Jennifer Lopez.

What are your plans for New Year’s Eve?  What are you thinking about wearing? Happy Holidays & Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: I’m In Love With These Knee Boots!

Okay, so I’ve been on the fierce search for some stylish knee boots all season long, ones that will comfortably fit around my shapely calves (a hard-earned feature since I’ve been wearing heels for the last 14 years of my life), especially ever since I received my acceptance to a Writer’s Conference in Florence, Italy next month.  I did attend earlier in 2011, but managed to only pack my outfits for function & not so much for fashion since I don’t have a whole lot of travel experience & was concerned about my luggage getting lost.  As fabulous as my ten days in the Renaissance city were, I didn’t meet my own stylish expectations, but lesson learned & I will be returning all the more knowledgable & stylish.

After surrendering my legs to many different fittings of boots, mostly from my shoe-flasgship-store, Payless, I finally discovered the American Eagle Nola Cozy Wedge ($29.99) in black.  My search wasn’t supposed to lead me to wedges or anything with the heel, since the Florentine streets are notoriously laid with cobblestone & I nearly twisted both ankles simultaneously while prancing about on my first night in high-heeled ankle booties.  The rest of my trip consisted of flat ankle boots & sneakers.  Unfortunately the latter pair was worn on the rainy day that I decided to hit up the Salvatore Ferragamo museum.  Shame on me!!

However, once I stood tall in a cute leggings & long sweater outfit while donning these boots pictured to the right, they felt right at home on my feet & there was no way that I wouldn’t be headed to a country shaped like a boot in anything other than these fabulous finds!

I was so relieved since suede is my go-to fabric for fall / winter footwear.  There’s just something to lush & luxurious since you can basically wear leather footwear all year long, making suede a little extra special.  Not to mention that the ankle-buckle details & fur trim are adorable!  However, if the black style isn’t for you, there’s also a super cute brown pair, also reduced from its original $49.99 price. The $29.99 sale price was especially right since the boots are an early Christmas present from my mother to me!

If you sign up for emails from Payless, you can get news on all the latest sales, including when their next BOGO 50% off will be, as well as learn about special coupon codes for 20% off! Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Fun & Flowery Holiday Shoes from Payless!

I am on a crazy budget right now since I’m headed to Italy in January, but my jaw dropped in awe over these flower-accented gorgeous peep toes, the ‘Isle’ flower platform pump in black & coral ($34.99) from Payless.

If you’re scouting out dresses to wear to celebrate the holidays with your friends, family, or significant others, then here are some fabulous shoe suggestions.  If you’re going for something edgy & colorful, play it down with the black pair, or if something metallic & flirty is waiting in your closet, then why not add a pop of color like coral?

Since the holiday shopping season is in full force, maybe ordering online would be your best option.  TIP: If you order from Payless & have it shipped to the store, it’s FREE!!! Happy Styling!

The Stylish Five: What Can You Get For (About) $11.00?

In honor of today’s date, I wanted to post at the price point of (about) $11.00. Although I missed posting this @11:11:11am, you still gotta admit that today’s date is a little weird.

Anyway, why not invest your $11.00 in something chic & stylish to add a little extra splash to your look.  There are plenty of sites & stores from which a Style Darling can choose, including Forever 21, The Limited, Payless, Old Navy, & Kohl’s.

If you’re planning an upcoming winter vacation, the embroidered insert woven top ($10.99) is a major plus-size find b/c Forever 21 is also having a promotion of 11% off with the code: ONEDAY11.  Also, if you’re headed to a warm-weather location, the Tamra buckle sandal ($10.99) is a cute way to wear flats, especially with the green & brown color combination.

To help make this fall a little more glamorous, the gold link large square scarf ($9.99) is adorable for a pullover sweater & jeans, or to dress down a little black dress with ballet flats!  Sometimes hoops, chandelier, or feather earrings can look overwrought with detail, but I much prefer to look of delicate drops like the gold tone chocolate simulated pearl drop earrings ($11.20). They’re soft & feminine, perfect to wear with a cable-knit sweater with a belted pencil skirt for a day at the office.

Lastly, while we start to snuggle up for an at-home spa day, treat your feet to the terry thong slippers ($10.00) which are available in green, black, blue, pink, & white.  I actually own there & they great for getting out of the shower, painting your toenails, & hugging your foot after a long day in high heels.

What can you find for about $11.00 on this very honorable Veteran’s Day? What stores do you shop in for the best holiday sales?  Happy Styling!
