Red Carpet Review: 2013 Art of Elysium Heaven Gala Featuring Kelly Osbourne, Camilla Belle, Ashley Madekwe, & More!

For those of you who have been focusing on the red carpets of the major awards shows, there’s one carpet that I haven’t featured in the last week & that’s the 2013 Art of Elysium Heaven Gala. I didn’t know what it was, but could tell that the star-studded red carpet was fabulous, so I went ahead & learned that the gala is run by a non-profit organization which encourages working artists of the stage, screen, & so forth to dedicate their time to helping children who are battling mental conditions.

Go figure! With that, I’m happy to share the event’s red carpet, including favorites like Camilla Belle, in a dramatic Carolina Herrera gown, as well as a very pregnant Busy Phillipps in a flapper-inspired Alberta Ferretti dressm, Hart of Dixie star Rachel Bilson in an animal-print Valentino design, & Anna Kendrick‘s sweet emerald Dior party look.

Basics For A Bargain: Swap In Some Sweaters, Inspired By Carrie Underwood, Nicole Richie, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, & More!

As if Long Island hasn’t been riddled enough with weather, it’s snowing now & I bundled up in my favorite sweater to brave the day.  This was my inspiration when I clicked through some of my top go-to websites to find must-have sweaters for the fall-winter season- no matter where you live.  Because sweaters are bulkier, often requiring special care, & available in an array of materials, I don’t necessarily admonish anyone who is looking for an investment piece to add to their cold weather wardrobe.  However, let’s take a look at some stylish celebrities who have been spotted in recent months donning some fashionable sweaters.

Actress Rose Byrne accents her textured black sweater with a ruffled skirt & leopard belt at the debut short film for Target, Falling For You.  Country crooner Taylor Swift looks all sorts of ladylike with maroon sweater by French Connection, paired with polka dot jeans by AG Adriano Goldschmied, Charlotte Olympia flats, & a tasteful string of pearls. Jessica Alba plays with menswear in her Alice + Olivia sweater to contrast her printed pants & bold cap toe pumps. Former Heroes star Ali Larter mixes sophistication with urban chic in a shawl collar sweater with olive cargo pants, ankle booties, & a Coach bag.

You can count on American Idol Carrie Underwood to bring the glitz to an appearance at The Late Show with David Letterman, wearing a sequin sweater, skinny jeans, & strappy wedges. Model / actress Rosie Huntington-Whiteley goes all-black in a fringed black sweater & liquid leather leggings when arriving at the Sao Paulo Fashion Week celebration.  Lastly, designer Nicole Richie goes casual in a zebra print Proenza Schouler sweater with skinny black jeans & suede pumps.

For under $50, you can find heart details, metallic threading, animal-inspiration, feminine accents, & some sparkle when it comes to wearing a sweater.  Of course, there’s the classic cable knit or argyle that you can wear to the office, but there are lots of ways to look ladylike & modern without having to sacrifice style when it comes to chunky knitwear.

I love the fun & flirty colors in the colored animal pattern sweater ($27.80) from Forever 21 is a cool way to accent a pencil skirt with a metallic collar necklace, or to wear during the day with skinny jeans & knee boots.  If you’re headed on a double date or want to stay warm when going out at night, check out Expressmetallic wedge sweater ($19.99), which would look hot with leather shorts & tights or colored jeans.  I’ve surprised myself lately by finding an interest in stripes (I’m not typically a stripey), but I love the color contrast & splash of sparkle in the Varick Street sequin stripe v-neck sweater ($46.95) from New York & Company, which is available in a whole range of colors if you’re not into the yellow-gray combo.

As seen on many Style Darlings like Alexa Chung & Rihanna, wearing novelty pieces is a big trend, & this includes LC by Lauren Conrad‘s lurex heart sweater ($34.99) from Kohl’s, which is also sold in black & white, as well as tan & black.  Pair this fun top with wide leg jeans & a scarf, or polish the look with textured a-line skirt & pointed toe heels.  Lastly, @Venus you can find knit sweater with bow ($22.00) in light brown which can be easily played up with a fancy lace pencil skirt or some leather leggings.

What sweater styles do you like to wear when the weather gets cold? Are there sweater trends that you love to follow? Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Our Top Picks for Maternity Styles!

I can’t even count on both hands how many women I know who are pregnant or have just popped out their bundle of joy.  While I can’t necessarily share in their journey through motherhood, I can however offer some awesome style suggestions if you’re an expectant mom-on-the-go & on a budget.  You only have nine months of growth, so making a huge investment in maternity clothes could hurt your bank account.  Don’t forget that the easiest way to get the most out of a maternity wardrobe is to swap stylish pieces with friends who no longer need them.  We can look to the baby boom in Hollywood for some inspiration, especially from famous moms like Gisele Bundchen, Ali Larter, Heidi Klum, & Christina Applegate, courtesy of In Style.

I’ve found a variety of cute pieces that can be mixed & matched for many different occasions during your months of pre-motherhood, which include versatile slim leg jeans, a delicate floral blouse, a loose-fitting cream trapeze cardigan, a darling blue belted wrap dress, a casual pair of cargo pants, & a black pleated dress as your go-to LBD for any special events that you may be attending.  If you’ve got basics like these that you like to wear, but want to help jazz them up, try out this braided sandal to keep your feet comfy this spring & summer, yet still chic in a metallic hue.  Or if you’re a real daredevil fashionista, get some neutral wedges for any outdoors affair this season.  During this time, accessories are the best way to show off your style, especially since (for the most part) they’re items that you already have.  For a solid color dress (like the LBD shown), try out a tribal necklace to bring out the wild yet sophisticated side of you.  Since the body is changing, add an elastic beaded bracelet, unless of course it’s too tight, but this pop of color looks so fun against natural colors & can help bright out other flattering shades in printed pieces.  Earrings are the best way to draw attention to your glowing face, so have fun with everything from red stud earrings to shell drop earrings for both casual & dressy days.  Happy Styling!

1/30/11 Darling of the Day: Ali Larter at 2007 Emmy’s in Reem Acra!

At the 2007 Emmy Awards, Heroes star Ali Larter wore a shining crimson gown by Reem Acra.  She was a favorite among critics for her effortless style & glamorous delivery of chic minimalism, while still channeling something Grecian too!  Red is sometimes hard to pull off on the red carpet, you wouldn’t want to blend in, but with the right accessories, this scarlet sweetheart satin gown is a stunning creation & perfect for her slim frame.  The simplicity of the dress screams for accessories & nothing will pop against this quite like diamonds or platinum, but if you’re a Style Darling on a budget, the perhaps sticking to chandelier earrings & a bauble of a cocktail ring will do the trick!

If you love red, then you have to see these dresses by worn on the red carpet like Anne Hathaway in Marchesa, Christina Hendricks in Romona Keveza, & Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga.  Happy Styling!
