Color Me Style: ‘Orange’ You Glad You’re In Orange?

Bright rich hues are the hot for summer, especially those in the  orange family.  Not everyone can pull of the boldness of persimmon, tangerine, or saffron, but here we have some stylish examples of how to pull off the tricky color in a dress.  Eva Longoria dons an ASOS sheath with coordinating Brian Atwood slingbacks.  Emma Stone plays up her auburn locks at a Today Show appearance.  Olivia Palermo shows off a Victoria Beckham design with leopard pumps & a pink Sondra Roberts clutch.  The Tree of Life star Jessica Chastain mixes hues with bright pink sandals.  Jennifer Aniston breaks out of her LBD with this draped cut-out Vivienne Westwood dress & Christian Louboutins.  Lastly, Kristin Cavallari wears a Jessica Barkley mini dress with nude pumps. To really play up this color, choose softer tones like neutrals in your accessories, or go a little bolder with bright pinks & animal-inspired shoes.  Also, nothing looks better with this color than a healthy tan (but DO avoid tanning beds), but as you can see on Emma & Jessica, a pale glow can also work with the right orange tone!

The selected dresses range in their orange hues from cinnamon to tangerine, & are all under $50! First, the ruched jersey dress by AGB is available @Macy’s.  Second, Urban Outfitters has this Sparkle & Fade knit bow back dress for $48.00.  If orange really isn’t for you, then this orange / red cotton-blend dress from Lulu’s might work better for you.  @Jessica London, this side ruche dress is flattering on many shapes & is currently marked down to $39.99.  The fifth dress is chiffon in rust from Forever 21 & can be coordinated with many different accessories like a chunky or metallic belts & a crochet vest.  Finally, the one-shoulder Bar III dress from Macy’s is reduced in price to $37.49 & can be matched with platform sandals & stacked bangles. 7/18/11 Darling of the Day: Leighton Meester for Vera Wang’s Lovestruck!

Leighton Meester, the newest face of Vera Wang’s Lovestruck, looked super stylish & accessible in a pleated blush blouse, paired with some seriously sexy leather leggings at the fragrance’s London launch party.  A departure from some go-to black trousers, this look is incredibly easy to translate into your everyday life.  Not to mention that the Gossip Girl star is wearing some killer Brian Atwood sandals & a special leather-looking Dannijo bracelet.  These are essential for when you head out to the bar, for an interview at a trendy office, or an after work event.

I’ve turned this look into two comparable outfits, giving a shoutout to my plus-size Style Darlings!  While I couldn’t find a pleated blouse (I’m sure they’re out there in soft blush, nude, & gray hues), here we have a tailored ruffle top from The Limited, as well as a smocked button front shirt from Avenue.  On the bottom, try out leggings with a faux leather panel, or plus-sized Baby Phat leggings, which can also be paired with basic tees & a vest, or dressed up even more with a corset top or a belted tunic top.

The best lavender strappy sandals that I could find are these fun t-straps by Type Z @Zappos for $53! They’re perfect for underneath a floral maxi dress or to add a pop of color to an LBD. The only accessory that you’ll need for this look is a bejeweled mesh cuff by Candie’s, available @Kohl’s!

Style Darling has technologically come a long way, but take a look at the last time we featured Ms. Meester as a Darling of the Day.  If you love all thing stylish about Leighton, check her out on In Style on their Star Finder to see who she’s been wearing on the red carpet & for special events!  Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review: Jennifer Aniston’s Little Black Dress Looks!

Jennifer Aniston is America’s Sweetheart- without a doubt. She’s filling the style ranks as a modern-day Audrey Hepburn (in her own way- of course nothing can truly compare to Miss Audrey)!  Jennifer is all about being comfortable & sexy, always complimenting her very fit figure, however she never looks overdone or as though someone else dressed her.  She makes the little black dress her own in every way possible, adding black tights for the cooler months, sticking to ultra strappy sandals, & always showing off some serious toe cleavage.  I watched a recent episode of Fashion Police on E! & Jennifer was being criticized for wearing yet another LBD to an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but I think it suits her, especially looking so ridiculously effortless & hot in them.  She really puts twenty-somethings who don’t own their sense of style to shame.

These seven images capture Jennifer at various events over the last few years,  but most recently while she’s promoting her endless slew of rom-coms & other films.  Starting from left to right, here we go: First the former Friends star dons a flirty shoulder-embellished Nina Ricci frock for the February premiere of Just Go With It in Berlin.  Next she wears a structured black 3/4 sleeve dress with black tights again for another winter appearance, but this time at The Early Show.  Both of these looks are super easy to pull off & it really seems like she’s wearing the same shoes & tights.  Here’s a tip straight from the actress herself, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

The third image is from a 2004 luncheon in Los Angeles & she’s wearing a ruffled Moschino wrap dress & super skinny stapped sandals.  This is very figure-flattering & the thin straps on the heels don’t cover up her feet, thus helping elongate her legline.  At a 2006 event, she chose a metallic Calvin Klein dress with a little fringe detail at the bottom & plenty of decolletage to go around.  However it does look like she’s just thrown on yet another easy LBD & looks super comfortable in it, continuing with her skinny strappy sandal rule.

While promoting The Switch last summer, Jennifer went with a dolman style mini dress, layered necklaces, & peep toe pumps. This style of dress is very easy to wear, especially if there are parts that you wanna cover up, but really, do you think she’s got anything to hide?  At the Madrid premiere of The Bounty Hunter, she returned back to black metallics in strapless Valentino number & seriously bondage-looking heels.  The frilly look of the mini dress vs. the edge of the shoes is a surprising combination on her, but it totally works!

At the recent premiere of Horrible Bosses in Los Angeles, she chose a Balenciaga mini dress with her signature style of sandals by Versace & accessorized with Fred Leighton jewelry & a clutch by Salvatore Ferragamo.  Lastly, the alleged crime of LBDs (only b/c Joan Rivers is so sick of talking about it- I personally think it’s adorable), Jennifer returned to Nina Ricci in this feminine, floral LBD & cute accented peep toe pumps.  For the afternoon appearance at The Daily Show, she looks polished, professional, & like a lady, saving the sexy side for night.

Here we have some great little black dress suggestions, available at New York & Company, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, Lulu’s, Forever 21, Avenue, EDressMe, & Express!  Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: LBD from Nordstrom Vs. a $39.98 Pick from Macy’s!

While Macy’s is considered in many ways a luxury retailer, part of what I love about the store is the great deals on very wearable items without sacrificing any quality.  Take for example a splitneck LBD & here you have one from Nordstrom for over $100 by Eliza J & another from Macy’s for under $40 by AGB.  The only difference is that one shows off a vintage feel with a jacquard fabric, whereas the other is a functional cotton blend.  Both are elegant for many occasions with bright pumps, a neutralizing blazer, or fabulous tights in the fall.  Scroll over both images to find out which is which!  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Matthew Williamson’s Collection for Macy’s!

Celebrities like Blake Lively, Selena Gomez, & Cat Deeley all love to wear designer Matthew Williamson’s creations, as we can see! If you don’t know who the English-born fashion innovator is, well you’re about to find out! You may even remember that Williamson created a line just for H&M back in 2009, which was a big hit among stylish stars like Sienna Miller & Thandie Newton.

In April, an exclusive line just for Macy’s will debut, featuring bright, bold color, fun separates, & plenty of cocktail looks. Items start at $24 & other pieces cost up to $300. If you’re a smart & savvy Macy’s shopper, you know where to find all the best discount offers.

In Style offers a sneak peek at the designer’s entire collection for Macy’s & I’ve picked out just a few of my favorites. Williamson shared with the magazine that his aim for the pieces is to “capture the essence of the mainline brand, with a focus on effortless glamour, dynamic prints, loosely structured silhouettes and pops of strong color.”

If spring has taught us anything, it’s that trench coats are timeless & this gorgeous cobalt-printed belted trench will instantly perk up any rainy day. This chartreuse one-shoulder dress with an embellished belt can be worn for any number of events like a cocktail party or a summer wedding with nude pumps. Romantic & wild graphic / animal-inspiration makes for a great dress for work, paired with a boyfriend blazer & chic shoulder bag. The boldness of this purple & neon blouse can be balanced with navy shorts & platform sandals for day or a black pencil skirt & cut-out pumps for night. This heart-printed romper can go from day-to-night as well with some ballet flats & a canvas tote, & then some metallic pumps & a bold cuff for a date. For any cool day of running errands, you’ll need an easy, casual look of a tee & walking shorts, paired with this graphic scarf & your favorite boat shoes.

After doing a little research, here are just a few of Williamson’s most fabulous pieces from his Spring 2011 Runway Collection, which can be purchased for a hefty price at Net-A-Porter. Happy Styling!

The $100 Challenge: Jessica Simpson Collection $25 Off $125 or More!

Because I’m signed up to receive emails from the Jessica Simpson Collection, I learned about a very special discount code (25125) which allows shoppers a $25 discount on purchases of $125 or more.  Yeah, that’s a lot of money, but when clicking around on the website, there were a lot of great items from which to choose that can total up to $125 & you’d be able to use that discount.  In addition, the website offers FREE SHIPPING to all purchases over $100.

If you want to shop more from this brand, be sure to check out sales & deals at Macy’s, 6pm, Zappos, & Shop Style.

These six items total $125.94 & after your discount, that gives you a total of $100(ish) dollars, thus fitting into our $100 Challenge theme.  Most of these items can either be found under the sale category or in the accessories.  You can wear big cutout earrings with any day or night look, including a zebra print dress & banded sandals.  Skinny jeans are always perfect with gold ballet flats or two-toned Mary Janes.  Argyle tights add a sophisticated touch to any preppy look, especially with a feminine wool coat.  A flirty bra & panties combo comes from this cute collection of sexy sets that will make getting dressed even sexier!  Multicolored striped wraps just scream out nautical would go with a polka dot tee & duffle satchel. Even though winter is gone, keep a sequin beret like this handy for those snowy bad-hair days, especially with a leather jacket & suede knee boots. Happy Styling!
