Why Say “Or” When You Can Say “And” (For These Maxi Dresses)?!

I know I’m not the first to say that buying “one in every color” is worth the investment, but if there’s a staple piece of clothing (or accessory) that you love & just can’t live without, when why not? I have this philosophy typically when ti comes to cardigans & ballet flats, but with a busy summer ahead, I’m also applying this philosophy (& maybe fashion addiction excuse?) to the Goddess maxi dress @New York & Company.

I was first introduced to this dress last year & have since bought it in EIGHT different colors. It is super fashionable, very comfortable & breathable, & really, a classic maxi dress style that I will continue to wear for more summers to come. Truth: I bought it when I was very VERY pregnant last summer, which gave my big baby belly lots of room, but this is not a maternity dress. The banding underneath the bust was very forgiving & even now (not pregnant), I’m loving the flowing long skirt, which flatters my shape now. Not to mention that this dress can be style in a multitude of ways, easy breezy for weekend errands or dressed up for a special occasion! Most colors are available in sizes XS- XXL, which means that this dress really is for everyone!

I love accessorizing this dress with any number of cropped cardigans, long necklaces, oversized earrings, a denim jacket, & studded sandals. Every color of dress is a great foundation for some summer fun, coordinating with playful watermelon or pineapple accents, gawdy golds, or crisp white pieces.

SHOP: black pointelle shrug @dressbarn (shop plus size here), rimless gradient sunglasses @Forever 21, rose gold strappy sandals @David’s Bridal, stone pendant necklace @LOFT, large drop earrings @H&M, & charm bracelet @H&M.

Luxury Look-Alike For Less: Studded Sandals From Neiman Marcus Vs. Forever 21!

When I’m lacking inspiration for a blog, you can either find me perusing the internet for absurdly adorable pictures of puppies, or checking out some seriously sexy shoes that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to afford. However, I was so inspired by Nicole Kidman’s new ad campaign for Jimmy Choo & began thinking about simple ways to update my spring-summer-fall shoe collection without breaking the bank. Also, I love the idea of studded sandals, especially since I’ve been seeing the trend all over the pages of my favorite fashion magazines this summer.  This includes the Saint Laurent strappy studded leather sandal ($867.00) in black, Prada studded metallic ankle-strap sandal ($636.00) in silver, Valentino allover rockstud sandal ($995.00) in poudre, & Schutz Akshya spiked sandal ($240.00) in black / gold, all from Neiman Marcus.

Neiman Marcus

Each style offers plenty of toe cleavage, as well as height to show off your legs in shorts romper, mini skirt, or sheath dress, especially when paired with softer details like lace, a floral print, or ruched bodice.

If you’re looking to achieve the same gladiator style with metallic studding, then I recommend heading over to Forever 21 for their leather-lined spike gladiator heels ($32.50) in both black & natural to fulfill all of your gritty & modern fashion needs. These are perfect for mixing up your office look for happy hour with the girls, heading out for a date in and LBD, or making a statement with the ever so trendy jumpsuit.

The Stylish Five: Charlotte Russe’s Summer Farewell Sale ($15 & Under)!

In the 5th & final installment of The Stylish Five (for now anyway), I’ve been checking out what’s going on @Charlotte Russe, where the prices on the sale items couldn’t get any better.  I think $15.00 is a pretty good jumping off point when looking for affordable styles to start stocking up on summer pieces for next year, or that tropical vacation you’ll be taking this winter! I love that Charlotte Russe is always a great resource for fun accessories like the rimless studded aviators ($2.50), which are super cute, as well as a bargain if you’re looking for an extra pair of shades to keep in your car.

If you’re headed to the beach or wanna show off that nail art-inspired pedicure, then grab a pair of the braided leatherette t-strap sandals ($10.00) in black which are perfect for a variety of looks including a casual maxi dress for daytime, a graphic tee & shorts on a casual afternoon, or when you’re headed to a picnic in a tank & cotton skirt.  For the more daring Style Darlings, add a pop of color to your look with the peep toe cut-out wedges ($15.00) in pink. The cork texture is classic for summer, essential for bringing out those neutral hues in your outfit.

There’s always a reason to bring out the sequins, which is why I’m recommending the geo-pattern sequin tank ($7.50) in gold which can be worn with a mini skirt, jeans, or leather leggings & paired with a satin blazer, basic cardigan, or over a mock turtleneck.  Also, I’ve gotta mention the zipper-back 2fer dress ($15.00), which plays with the colorblocking trend- one that just isn’t going away.  Depending on how this is styled, you can make this office friendly with textured tights, ankle booties, & a tweed jacket for the fall, or with your favorite metallic platforms & drop earrings for a sexy night out.

The $100 Challenge: $100 worth of shoes!

Usually my $100 Challenge features an entire look that totals just under $100 before taxes, but this time I decided to collect $100 worth of my favorite shoes.  These are either marked down on sale or regular priced at some of my favorite affordable stores.  Since my site-wide overhaul of old blogs, I haven’t returned to this category (with the exception of a friend’s super stylish find in A True Style Darling’s Uniform). Who knew that finding up to seven pairs of shoes would total $98.94!  These styles that can be worn on & off throughout the year can be found at Payless, Charlotte Russe, Old Navy, Forever 21, Mandee, & Wet Seal. Can you come up with more stylish shoes than these seven for a total up to $100?  Of course, you can invest that money in just one item from a higher-end brand name like Nine West, Aldo, or Steve Madden, but sometimes finding a unique item like one of these is a fun way to avoid too much of a splurge.

Furry boots like these are perfect for next winter with some skinny jeans & a leather jacket.  Flowered flats are adorable for leggings & an embellished blouse.  The black ankle strap heels are a lovely way to finish off a floral sheath dress.  These gladiator flats are vacation must-haves with a pair of navy bermuda shorts & a graphic tee.  These sexy zippered pointed toe pumps are sleek for work in a pencil skirt & button-down shirt.  For a flirty cocktail look, these purple sandals are a bright pop of color against a little black dress.  Lastly, these silver glitter flip-flops are beach-friendly with a zebra print swimsuit. Happy Styling!
