Red Carpet Review: The Spectacle of Stars at the 2022 American Music Awards!

Last night’s American Music Awards ceremony had some highs and lows, especially when it came to hemlines and necklines. Today’s hottest & most successful recording artists hit the red carpet in major style & sparkle–sparkle being a major trend of this entire awards season. Aside from Taylor Swift dominating the stage with multiple wins (Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Female Country Artist, & Favorite Country Album), her golden, 70s-inspired halter jumpsuit by The Blonds was stunning, paired with metallic Giuseppe Zanotti heels, Cathy Waterman earrings, ear cuffs by Anita Ko, rings by Delfina Delettrez, & a Vram bracelet. Additionally, major fashion was served by Carrie Underwood in a shimmering Tony Ward high slit gown, Latina artist Anitta in a revealing Mugler gown & Tiffany & Co. jewelry, “Unholy” singer Kim Petras donning a denim Blumarine design, Ellie Goulding in a Philosophy di Lorenzo Serafini two-piece look, Kelly Rowland in an exotic & dramatic animal print gown by Nicolas Jebran, Pink in a fringed Bob Mackie creation, “Made You Look” scribe Meghan Trainor sporting shimmering pink suit by Michael Costello, pop star Sabrina Carpenter in a silver dripping Oscar de la Renta two-piece look, & “I’m Good” singer Bebe Rexha in a glamorous red Buerlangma gown that she accessorized with matching Atelier Biser gloves & knee-high boots Le Silla.

The American Music Awards are still airing, but if you’ve missed any of the red carpet festivities, then you can check out the highs & lows here on Style Darling.  Some of my favorite performers hit the stage, including Christina Aguilera & Pink, both who made stunning statements on the red carpet in lavender & bronze, respectively.  Also, some noteable appearances were made by an Old Hollywood-inspired Carly Rae Jepsen in Gomez-Garcia, Nicki Minaj in neon Monique Lhuillier, & the always gorgeous Carrie Underwood in a purple gown by Abed Mahfouz.

Who wore your favorite looks? What was your favorite part of the show? Do you agree with the winners? For more from Red Carpet Review, check out posts including the Breaking Dawn Part Two premiere & MTV’s European Music Awards! Happy Styling!

Watch This Style: Maroon 5 Feat. Christina Aguilera in “Moves Like Jagger!”

Of course this isn’t an exclusive sneak peek for the music video, but after watching Sunday night’s American Music Awards performance between Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera of “Moves Like Jagger,” I had to click on over to YouTube.  I usually just get my fix of the song on the radio b/c it’s playing all the time & I love it, but having seen the bad, bad fashion choices of Ms. Aguilera throughout 2011, I was seeking some serious style from the once ultra glamorous star.

I’d like to point out that I believe that it doesn’t matter what you look like, what your size is, or how you’re shaped. Own it & work what you’ve got in the best way you know how.  Despite all my advice on what looks flattering here & there, it’s so important to go around on a day-to-day basis with confidence in your step for the body that you were born with & you’re responsible for taking care of.  I find that for me, it happens in a really sexy pair of shoes & when I’m working out & eating right.

However, when you have a curvy body type like Christina does now, there are more flattering & sexy ways of showing that off without looking like you’re trying to look like a Snooki impersonater inside of a sausage dress.  Am I being too harsh?  Sorry Xtina!

ANYWAY… The music video is a fun throwback to the legendary rock star style of Rolling Stones frontman, Mick Jagger.  During the band’s very long & successful career, he has singlehandedly changed the way we look at rock stars & their style, which can be seen in current powerhouse performers today like Pink, Lady Gaga, & Gwen Stefani.  Not to mention that Adam Levine isn’t so bad on the eyes & Christina looks really good donning a mens dress shirt, black tights, & a 70s-inspired floppy hat in the video.  Happy Styling!
