Magazine Must-Haves / Silver Screen Style: Miss Piggy Goes Glam for In Style!

To mark the excitement of Style Darling’s 300th post, I’m recycling some style news, but it’s still important news! Thanks to my editor over @Movie Buzzers, I got an exclusive heads up about a very special fashion spread that I’m so excited to cross-blog!

With all the news surrounding the long-awaited new movie, The Muppets, Miss Piggy is making her comeback in a big way!  In the November issue of In Style, featuring Gwen Stefani on the cover, the beloved puppet siren puts all previous high-fashion centerfolds to shame with looks by designers like a feathered flapper dress by Jason Wu, a romantic LWD (little white dress) by Parabal Gurung, and many more!

It’s been a whole twelve years since we saw the Muppet crew on the big screen, but Miss Piggy is making every effort to steal the show, especially after an impressive 35 years in the entertainment business.  In the magazine, she discusses her relationship with Kermit, her fashion sense, what it was like to film with her old friends, and exactly what she thinks about her co-stars Jason Segel and Amy Adams. Not to mention that all of the looks that the famous pig models were custom-made for the diva, including strappy leopard pumps by Brian Atwood, gold-plated jewelry by Philip Crangi for Giles & Brother, a floral belted Suno dress, and sweet Opening Ceremony halter dress with ankle strap heels.

You can expect to see the movie in theaters on November 23rd and check out Movie Buzzers’ previous articles about the latest trailer and video, a parody trailer, and news on the movie’s soundtrack featuring OKGO, Weezer, and many more! Also, check back with Movie Buzzers at the end of the year since I’m sure Miss Piggy’s on screen style will put The Muppets on my Top 10 Most Stylish Movies of 2011 list!

Happy Styling!

Red Carpet Review / Runway Rundown: Who Loves Dolce & Gabbana’s Stars Print? Fergie, Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, & More! That’s Who!

Dolce & Gabbana‘s latest fall / winter collection is headed for the stars- seriously! While playing with classic silhouettes in pencil skirts, flowy blouses, & oversized blazers, the mix of the celestial black & white pattern stands out even more with sequins, lace, animal print, & fur.  These are just a few of the very fabulous runway looks, courtesy of the official website. Even the separate items can be matched with dark denim skinny jeans, a bold tee, & colorful pointed tow heels & socks (as pictured).  To shop for these items, head over to Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Net-A-Porter, & Saks Fifth Avenue.  Which is your favorite?  Do you think stars look juvenile or luxury?

But if the runway isn’t somewhere you normally hang, take a look at the latest fashion magazine covers & their stylish cover girls, donning star-themed dresses by the famed fashion house.  This includes One Day‘s Anne Hathaway for Marie Claire, pop princess Britney Spears for Harper’s Bazaar, & everyone’s favorite Virgo, Beyonce for In Style!

And since this is a partial red carpet post… Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a slew of celebs of all styles opting for astronomical-inspired looks, as opposed to the tradition go-to polka dots or a simple LBD for camera-ready events.  First there’s Rose McGowan shows off her figured in a ruches sweetheart dress, Fergie isn’t afraid of color in the yellow & black mini, a very pregnant Jessica Alba wears a comfortable & elegant halter, Rosario Dawson plays with voluminous sleeves, Olivia Wilde sneaks around in sequins, Kim Kardashian isn’t afraid to wear curve-hugging stars during the dat, & Lily Allen is ladylike in a white coat & black tights.  Lastly, Evan Rachel Wood & Solange Knowles take on this print in legwear, both pairing the pants with loose-fitting tops & a masculine black jacket!

For more on Dolce & Gabbana, check out our Style ABC’s (x3) post, featuring the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson as the brand’s cosmetic spokesmodel.  Also, check out past runway shows at In Style!  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Missioni Heads to Target!

I love Target b/c it has everything you need!  You can get your favorite shampoo, new sheets for your bed, the new Vanessa Carlton CD, & some serious style all in one trip to the store!  What’s even more special is that Missoni has recently joined forces with the mega department store to feature not just clothing in the famous chevron print, but home accessories like a tea set & other goodies like luggage!

Courtesy of In Style, the brand has released about 20 images of the goods which will be available in Target stores & online starting September 13th.  Prices as of now are not yet available, but be sure to check out their computer accessories, as well as vibrant scarves that can help make your fall an even brighter one!

Of course, this isn’t appearing on a runway any time soon, but isn’t it nice to know that Style Darlings everywhere can get their fashionable hands on affordable & luxury designs by brands that have hit the catwalks of Milan or Paris by just walking in to Target?

TIP: If you’re already a Target shopper, then you may already know that if you bring your recyclable bag (which only costs $1) during each Target visit, you can get .05 back on your purchase.  Also, if you have a Target credit card, for each use, you automatically get 5% off your purchase.  Every little bit helps!!

If you’re not familiar with the brand, then check out Joy Bryant, Kerry Washington, Sophia Vergara, & Nicole Richie wearing looks on the red carpet.  In addition, if you’re a big fan of Missoni, you can see runway collections from Spring 2009 up to this year, by clicking here. Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Banana Republic & ‘Mad Men’ Style!

It’s impossible to suggest that TV does not influence fashion & vice versa.  Carrie Bradshaw anyone? Anyway, you better watch out for fall fashions at Banana Republic, where we’re seeing a straight-from-the-set collaboration of Mad Men‘s costumer designer Janie Bryant with the retailer.  Courtesy of In Style, we have a sneak peek at the fall line which will hit your local stores on August 10th!  Bryant told the magazine, “The collection is about dressing with effortlessly chic style, bringing a dressed up look to American style for the modern man and woman.”  You can pick being a Joan (Christina Hendricks), Peg (Elisabeth Moss), or Betty (January Jones), looking super sensational with a whole lot of vintage.  These separates are also great for pairing with more modern pieces like a one-shoulder top, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, or cropped pants.  In addition, there are tailored mens looks included in the line, which you can spot by going to the magazine’s article.

*Note: The outfits in the picture to the far right are not sold at Banana Republic.  That is simply a promotional image to show the styles of three characters.  Happy Styling!

Magazine Must-Haves: In Style’s Intimates & Extras for Spring!

Even though all of the May issues of the most popular fashion magazines are hitting shelves, I had to post about some of the great finds in the April 2011 issue of In Style, featuring the uber-talented & surprisingly glamorous Tina Fey.  Not the most fashion-conscious celebrity out there, the magazine styled her in a very “Network-esque” manner with lots of blouses, pants, & corporate attire for this actress, writer, & mother. She’s currently promoting her new book, Bossypants, while also wrapping up a fifth season of 30 Rock.  AND, she’s expecting her second child!  Busy busy!

Also in the issue are these four must-have items! Not to seem haphazardly put together, they are some of the best deals from some of my favorite websites.  Get ready for beach weather in these gold metallic gladiator flats for under $16!  They’re perfect with a coverup romper, or a wild printed maxi dress, all from Charlotte Russe.  For some nautical inspiration, take a cue from this coral striped t-shirt from Forever 21, which is perfect for slouchy jeans, khaki walking shorts, or a mini skirt & wedges.  This is a go-to piece even later on next season for those cool summer nights over a basic tank & shorts.  The magazine reports that coral is the color of the moment, so go for some neutral accessories to let the color pop with lucite jewelry or chunky white pieces.  I don’t normally feature intimate apparel, but I was cooing over these two bras, one from the gorgeous, luxury Italian brand Cosabella which is now sold @J.Crew & also a navy lace racerback @Victoria’s Secret.  Ditch the sporty looks & go for something soft & feminine, but watch out which tops you pair these bras with!  Happy Styling!

Style ABC’s (x3): A is for Audrey Hepburn, American Idol, & Ann Taylor!

is for Audrey Hepburn, one of the most beautiful women to have ever graced the big screen, & an obvious choice to start out Style ABC’s blog series.  The star of Breakfast at Tiffany’s & Roman Holiday effortlessly changed the way we perceived Hollywood style & glamour into minimalist chic. She created the timeless LBD look & has inspired celebrities today, like Natalie Portman, Victoria Beckham, & Penelope Cruz, to follow in her very prestigious footsteps. For more dish on Audrey’s signature style, check out Steal Their Style, Allure, In Style, & Look Book Fashion! Some additional Audrey-inspired looks include Ellen Page, Bridget Moynahan, Julia Ormond, & Scarlett Johansson!

On American Idol, Jennifer Lopez  has stormed the small screen in every appearance!  Not only are audiences watching to see the competition, but I know half of why I’m watching is to see what the multi-talented fashion icon is wearing!  She sports uber-feminine ruffles, throwback scarves, glamour girl bombshell sparkles, modern minimalism, & 80’s chic all in a matter of a few weeks.  Especially after Jennifer’s recent appearance at this year’s Grammy’s, she’s proved that she still a fabulous force to be reckoned with! Stayed tuned for American Idol every Tuesday & Wednesday night on FOX for more lessons on style!

Ann Taylor is a classy brand name that mixes soft with chic in a very wearable way.  Celebrities like Heidi Klum, Naomi Watts, Milla Jovovich, & currently Katie Holmes star in the ad campaigns for this brand, which has branches for a more youthful demographic in LOFT, as well as a super stylish maternity line.  The clothing ranges from wedding to cocktail to work to everyday with ease & elegance.

Runway Rundown: Matthew Williamson’s Collection for Macy’s!

Celebrities like Blake Lively, Selena Gomez, & Cat Deeley all love to wear designer Matthew Williamson’s creations, as we can see! If you don’t know who the English-born fashion innovator is, well you’re about to find out! You may even remember that Williamson created a line just for H&M back in 2009, which was a big hit among stylish stars like Sienna Miller & Thandie Newton.

In April, an exclusive line just for Macy’s will debut, featuring bright, bold color, fun separates, & plenty of cocktail looks. Items start at $24 & other pieces cost up to $300. If you’re a smart & savvy Macy’s shopper, you know where to find all the best discount offers.

In Style offers a sneak peek at the designer’s entire collection for Macy’s & I’ve picked out just a few of my favorites. Williamson shared with the magazine that his aim for the pieces is to “capture the essence of the mainline brand, with a focus on effortless glamour, dynamic prints, loosely structured silhouettes and pops of strong color.”

If spring has taught us anything, it’s that trench coats are timeless & this gorgeous cobalt-printed belted trench will instantly perk up any rainy day. This chartreuse one-shoulder dress with an embellished belt can be worn for any number of events like a cocktail party or a summer wedding with nude pumps. Romantic & wild graphic / animal-inspiration makes for a great dress for work, paired with a boyfriend blazer & chic shoulder bag. The boldness of this purple & neon blouse can be balanced with navy shorts & platform sandals for day or a black pencil skirt & cut-out pumps for night. This heart-printed romper can go from day-to-night as well with some ballet flats & a canvas tote, & then some metallic pumps & a bold cuff for a date. For any cool day of running errands, you’ll need an easy, casual look of a tee & walking shorts, paired with this graphic scarf & your favorite boat shoes.

After doing a little research, here are just a few of Williamson’s most fabulous pieces from his Spring 2011 Runway Collection, which can be purchased for a hefty price at Net-A-Porter. Happy Styling!

3/23/2011 Darling Of The Day: Taylor Swift in Parisian Chic!

Just this week, In Style featured Taylor Swift leaving a hotel in France, looking effortlessly Parisian chic.  Equipped with a casual striped tee, dressed up in a skirt with tights & oxfords,  the Grammy winner & country superstar brought her Southern style to the fashion capital of the world.   This is a perfect look for any day of shopping in any gorgeous city.  It’s really an elegant way to go about your day, without any fuss of too many accessories or too much print.  Miley Cyrus could take a style cue here!
This look is so easy to make for yourself with a three-quarter sleeve striped tee, a tiered skirt, & sheer black tights!  Throw in your favorite shoulder bag, something in a neutral, or a navy satchel with your most delicate ballet flats & you’d be unstoppable!
Sporting her signature loose & wild curls (that can be maintained even in the most treacherous weather with John Frieda spray) & classic red lips, the Cover Girl spokesmodel’s look truly makes her a Darling of the Day! Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: A Look at Rachel Zoe’s First Line!

I don’t normally follow runway looks, or entire collections of big name designers, for they are just so expensive, but I’ve grown to have a fashion crush on Rachel Zoe (bah-nanas!) & when I saw InStyle‘s scoop on her most recent fashion endeavors, I drooled the unthinkable drool!

While Ms. Zoe’s looks aren’t available until the fall, I love the blend of 70’s starlet, modern minimalism, casual menswear, dainty ruffles, & regal faux furs.  It’s both flirty & whimsical, it’s totally Rachel’s style!  I haven’t read yet where her looks will be sold, but I’ve learned that they run anywhere from $200 – $700.  Kind of beyond my budget, but it doesn’t hurt to look at the professional celebri-stylist’s newest project as inspiration for our own wardrobes.  She’s so successful & is such an inspiration, who adores anything Chanel, Marc Jacobs, & even endorses H&M!

I don’t know how the first-time soon-to-be-mom does it, while still styling celebrities for their red carpet events.  As we’ve seen on her show, especially during the craziness that ensues for awards season (like right now the Oscars are just two weeks away & I’d love to see how all the fabulous history-making fashion is coming to life!), some of her most famous red carpet & often best dressed list topping  clients include actresses Eva Mendes, Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Garner, Cameron Diaz, Demi Moore, & Molly Sims.  How can you go wrong with a fashionable lineup like that?

Check out The Rachel Zoe Project on Bravo, of which I can’t wait to see Season 4!  Not to mention on her official website, you can sign up for a daily email of  The Zoe Report & get her advice in the Ask Rachel section!  She even offers some behind-the-scenes footage from her latest collection’s arrival!

Also, she lends her voice to Piperlime sharing her favorites from the retailer’s vast selections! And you can follow her up-to-the-minute tweets on Twitter! Happy Styling!

2/6/11 Darling of the Day: Jennifer Aniston’s Casual Chic Day Out & Bottega Veneta Hobo!

Jennifer Aniston is the quintessential California girl with a cool, casual style, but her laid-back, effortless glamour is what makes her a stand-out Style Darling.  The actress, whose career was jump-started by her iconic role of Rachel on Friends, has become a best “friend” to fashion with easy, yet timeless looks.  Even though the movie Picture Perfect wasn’t a colossal success, I have to say that I love her character’s style in it & that’s what originally made me notice how she wears clothes & doesn’t let them wear her.

Here we’re taking a flash back to 2004 with Jennifer, who wears a perfect example of minimalism, yet chic flair.  In a clean white button-down shirt, bootcut jeans, & a pinstriped blazer, her outfit is executed with three very basic pieces.  She adds a Bottega Veneta hobo bag to accessorize her already cool pointed toe shoes & leaf charm necklace.  Wherever she’s headed, she means business!

The items that I’ve selected are all affordable- although the blazer (which is nearly a clone of the one Aniston is wearing) may be a little bit over budget for some.  It’s from Banana Republic, therefore its quality will stand the test of time.  You’ll definitely get your money’s worth by making the investment, but I also recommend some blazers from Ann Taylor LOFT, New York & Company, & Express to pair with any classic button-down

For more stylish accessories to choose from while you’re on a budget, I always recommend Forever 21, Payless, The Limited, & Style Find! Also, if your style inspiration takes you to a blend of feminine meets menswear, don’t forget to check out my post about Cate Blanchett & take a look at In Style‘s previous Look of the Day picks of Rachel Bilson, Thandie Newton, & Victoria Beckham

Happy Styling!
