8/2/2012 Darling Of The Day: Kate Middleton & Christina Hendricks Colorblock With Bright Pants!

When I saw these looks worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, & Mad Men star Christina Hendricks, I kept them in mind b/c I loved the bright bottoms worn by both Style Darlings.  Kate’s look is very casual, perfect for observing Olympic events, whereas Christina’s look is more feminine & polished while she walks the red carpet.

Since it’s summer time, a crisp white top, whether it be a polo shirt or a blouse, is always a stylish way to start building an outfit.  I’ve selected both looks to feature in Darling of the Day, especially since it’s been a while since my last post in this category.

To start building Kate’s look, I’ve turned to KMart for the polo shirt ($7.99) & paired it with the Stella colored jean legging ($79.90) in cobalt from Express. The price on the jeans may be high, but right now @Express, there’s a BOGO $29.90 sale on these jeans.  If you’re an Express credit card holder, you can earn coupons for up to $50.oo off! To complete this look, head over to Piperlime for the Nine West Skip N Jump wedges ($39.99) & Kohl’s for the Simply Vera Vera Wang silver tone simulated crystal ball drop earrings ($10.50).

If you’re looking for a dressier way of pairing your whites with bright bottoms, take a look at Christina’s ensemble, which can comprise affordable separates like the satin cascading ruffle blouse ($17.80) from Forever 21 & New York & Company‘s The Crosby Street city double stretch slim leg pants ($46.95). This outfit lends the perfect opportunity to play with prints & textures in your accessories, such as the Andiamo gavel pumps ($34.94) from DSW & Big Buddha handbag clutch ($24.99) from Macy’s.

To shop more colorful bottoms, inducing jeans, pants, & leggings, check out colored stonewash skinnies ($24.80) from Forever 21, stretch twill pants ($24.95) from H&M, Jessica London‘s color jeggings ($39.99), colorful skinny jean ($44.90 – $74.90) from The Limited, & the cafe capris ($39.99) from J.Crew. Also, for basic white tops to mix & match with other wardrobe staples, check out the burnout animal racerback tank ($9.99) from Charlotte Russe, The Gap‘s Essex sugar wash scoop tee ($19.99), the ASOS button down skirt ($33.14), the white zebra twist tee ($28.50) from Torrid, Old Navy‘s split-neck button-front blouse ($22.50).

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: 70% Off Clearance Shoes, Bags, & Accessories @Piperlime!

I’m going to be writing about Piperlime again in the near future b/c there’s so much going on (new celebrity guest editors!!), but I just had to post about these clearance accessories that are up to 70% off their original price!

I think that finding end-of-the-season shoes is super fun b/c then you’ll have new(ish) pieces to shoe off with you spring & summer outfits next year.  The natural Hive & Honey ‘Lolly’ wedges ($19.97) are a little tribal, but would look great with a cotton tiered dress or animal-print maxi dress.  The Nine West ‘Nonsense’ wedges ($19.97) in black are great for pairing with a denim mini skirt & ruffled blouse.  Also by Nine West are the ‘Altan’ slingbacks in khaki green / camel ($39.97), which are flattering for skinny jeans, a shirt dress, or a jersey LBD!

Accessories are pieces that be worn (for the most part) from season-to-season (meaning with the exception of shoes).  I love to find elegant clutches & shoulder bags marked down b/c when you use them, they can bring out the special touches in a printed dress, help dress up a solid sheath, or turn a menswear-inspired look into a vintage throwback look.  For example, the ivory bag by Street Level ($27.97) is really chic to pair with a houndstooth coat & dark denim jeans. For more formal occasions, check out the details in the Street Level ruffled clutch ($24.97) or the Big Buddha ‘Malibu’ woven clutch ($19.97).

You can’t have a blog about accessories & not talk about jewelry.  Bracelets are by far my favorite piece of jewelry, especially the Sabine woven bracelets ($15.99).  I also love how beads add extra color & sparkle, which is why I choose the wide beaded silver bracelet ($18.99).  Also, the multi-bead gold bracelet by Tinley Road ($11.97) is a unique addition for Style Darlings who gravitate toward earth-tones & natural colors.

Since I’m sooo into scarves, I had to feature at least one!  The delicate Peony Vine Spun by Subtle Luxury scarf in fuchsia ($15.97) is adorable to wear over a long-sleeved tee with wide-leg jeans & ballet flats!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Big Buddha Purse at Piperlime!

When going out, perhaps even for this Valentine’s Day, it’s always a great idea to carry with you as little as possible.  Just hang onto the essentials like your phone, a tube of lipstick, some cash or a credit card (but why would you be paying anyway?), or any other personal toiletry.   How about trying this adorable mini-purse with a flower ruffle design, available in yellow, gray, & black for only $13.99 @Piperlime.  The design is by Big Buddha & is currently a marked down item from $20.00.  Take out the yellow for a spring time day affair with a shirtdress, or save the gray for a night out with the girls & your favorite sparkled top.  And who doesn’t love a black option when wearing something a little bit on the loud side?

They make for great gift ideas (maybe for bridesmaids?) & will never go out of style.  If you’re thinking of this as gift item, load it up with little sample sizes of the latest beauty items & color palettes for your bestie!  You can always try the standard rectangular clutch, but this ‘Tilly’ purse is a portable & posh way to get about your business, especially since you can simply clip it on your jeans or your belt when going out without having to carry around in your hands.  Always looking our for a great deal, I can’t help but notice how super celebrity stylist & mom-to-be Rachel Zoe endorses this brand on the website by seasonally picking some of their bags as her favorites of the moment.  Can’t go wrong when a professional is telling you it’s hot!  What kind of clutches do you like to coordinate?  Any comments, suggestions, or questions are welcome!  Happy Styling!
