I knew that being away for so long & out of touch with the latest fashion news would make me (almost) miss some really great stories tos hare here on Style Darling. This includes the latest from the fall ad campaign circuit, which is three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williamsshowing off her darker, dramatic side for Louis Vuitton. The usually ethereal girly-girl of the red carpet is shedding her bombshell Marilyn Monroe / sweetheart Glinda image in this images seen above & below!
The ads are celebrating the latest in handbags from the brand’s Autumn / Winter 2013-14 line, including the W and the Capucines, by photographer Peter Lindbergh. However, it’s Michelle here who really steals the spotlight from the luxury accessories with her sensual wine-hued pout & a rocker-inspired shaggy ‘do.
Seems like the all-white looks that we’re seeing are celebrities on & off the red carpets are going away in the fall, especially with a head-to-toe black line, as seen in my latest gallery for Viktor & Rolf‘s Fall 2013 Haute Couture Collection. Here we have a very minimalist approach, mixed with plenty of cloak shapes & dramatic structure. Of course it takes a daring fashionista to try one of these looks, but given the right occasion, I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots of black in the future.
I’m in the middle of some major summer style moments (which I hope to share photographs of soon!), but I’m looking forward to what fall has in store for Style Darlings. Since I’m returning to the classroom as a student after a year-long break, I was thinking about what my everyday “school bag” would be. However, the traditional Jansport that I toted around back in high school just doesn’t cut it at nearly 30 years old.
I just fell in love with this polka dot backpack ($32.80) from Forever 21, which not only fits my personality, but makes for a stylish statement in & out of the classroom for any girl on the go. I’m especially crazy about the red leather trim & multiple buckle details for all of those everyday essentials that we can’t live without!
I can’t wait for Homelandto come back for a fierce third season, but in the mean time, the stars of the Showtime drama are hitting the pages of Vogue‘s August 2013 issue. Cover girl Claire Danesrecreates her on-screen dynamic with co-star Damien Lewis in a series of fashionable shots. In the video below, the pair playfully name their favorites… including movies, characters, physical attributes, & so forth. It’s funny & sweet to see the actress so light & humorous, when she’s always so serious on the small screen & when it comes to fashion.
I’m all packed & ready to hit the road tomorrow for a highly anticipated break from reality while attending a very intense, yet chic Writer’s Conference out in Southampton for the next eleven days… which means that posts may be sparse for the rest of the month. However, I wanted to leave readers with plenty of inspiration, including some of my favorite celebrity looks who are toting head-to-toe white, black & white ensembles, & fall-ready designer booties that I can’t wait to put on my own feet! My top picks include Salma Hayek Pinaultin a printed Christopher Kane dress with seriously stylish Giuseppe Zanotti booties. Also, there’s much to talk about with the usually belly-baring Rihannawho couldn’t look cooler or more casual, as well as supermodel Karolina Kurkova in elegant menswear-inspired separates & Kristen Wiigin a Viktor & Rolf shift dress at an NYC screening for her new film, Girl Most Likely.
I’ve featured plenty of news about Gleeon Style Darling in the past, but I wanted to take a moment today to share my favorite moments from the musical show, especially with the headlines circulating about the death of lead actor Cory Monteith this weekend. I’ve been saying for a while now that the show isn’t the same as it was in its first two seasons, but either way, a memorable impression has been made on the world of television & its audience. My persona here is all about fashion & style with a side of literary nerd-dom, but I also come from a theatrical background & have come to appreciate performers for their craft & style, which is why I frequently feature music videos in Watch This Style posts.
Along with the new fall previews hitting the pages of the best fashion magazines, you can expect lots to look at when it comes to ads for the biggest brands with the most stylish collections. I’m certainly paying attention to texture, pattern, shine, & accessories, especially when there’s plenty of 60s-inspired silhouettes to Lanvin‘s Fall 2013 campaign. Also, I love the nod to Hitchcock heroines like Grace Kelly & Janet Leigh, as well as plenty of Mad Men-chic looks. This is a more memorable ad with an elegant Aflac-esque duck held by the models, as quirkily demonstrated by director Alber Elbaz with shots taken by Steven Meisel of House + Holme.
Back in May, I posted the debut image of Rooney Marafor Calvin Klein‘s newest fragrance Downtown. Now, the brand has released the short film for the perfume, directed by Girl with the Dragon Tattoo visionary David Fincher, which features a rarely cheerful leading lady. The black-&-white minute-long film hits up the subway, dances with children, & wears the most gorgeous of fashions all to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs song, “Runaway.”
I swear, I’m not trying to wish the summer away, but I’m already receiving stacks of August 2013 issues of my favorite fashion magazines, which have pages plastered with fall preview looks & accessories, & I knew it was time to repost in Show Me The Shoes. While clicking around for some style inspiration, I found the Kierce booties ($190.00) in green, black, & dark orange from Nine West.
I’m kind of crazy about these shoes & definitely wouldn’t spend the bucks to add them to my own personal shoe collection, but I’m definitely excited to see suede textures, modern styles, & towering platforms for fall. I just had to share them, especially the dark green hue, which I already know would look great with any LBD, 70s-inspired, jumpsuit, or skinny jeans & tunic top.
The memory of Elizabeth Taylorcan finally thrive on the big screen with the latest BBC movie, Burton & Taylor, which documents the twice-divorced couple the theater for their 1983 production of Private Lives. In this short first look at the made-for-television movie, I’m super impressed by Helena Bonham Carter‘s spot-on representation of the violet-eyed movie legend. Also, Dominic West as Burton seems a good match against HBC who captures Taylor’s every seductive & playful stare. The film will premiere on July 22nd so check your local listings & set up your DVRs!
