Red Carpet Review: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s Transformers 3 Press Tour & More!

Rosie Huntington – Whiteley is the latest it-girl to hit the red carpet, making headlines in the fashion world for quite a while now.  She is the new leading lady for the mega-Blockbuster action movie, Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon starring opposite Shia LaBeouf and Patrick Dempsey.  The English-born actress & former model was handpicked by director Michael Bay, after working on one of those sexy winged-angel Victoria’s Secret ads.

Courtesy of In Style, we see Rosie (which is also my best friend’s name!) in a slew of gorgeous looks on & off the red carpet, attracting every camera in sight!  Even at this summer’s MTV Movie Awards Rosie kept it classy, but edgy in a tiger print long-sleeved shift by Dolce & Gabbana, Sergio Rossi heels, & a Salvatore Ferragamo bag. At a recent appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, she opted for a glamorous halter jumpsuit by Michael Kors in a very luxurious white & classic movie star aviators. Even when she’s not making a formal appearance somewhere, she struts her stuff in a loose-fitting long-sleeved blouse, black cuffed trousers, ankle strap heels in neutral, & finishes it all off with oversized sunglasses & an Alexander Wang bag.

Keeping with the sultry-girl-next-door look, she dons Michael Kors once again in a belted black slit gown.  This makes me think that the ingenue is an early Halle Berry / Angelina Jolie in-the-making. For a photo call appearance for Transformers 3, she went bold in a magenta Michael Kors gown with a super high slit & nude platform Christian Louboutins.  After seeing this stunning look, all I can say is: Move over, Blake Lively, there’s a new Style Darling in town! When the film premiered in Berlin, she sparkled in a silver belted open-back Naeem Khan gown, which made her golden skin & enviable cheekbones all the more sensational. In a very Jessica Rabbit-inspired red lamé strapless gown by Antonio Berardi 2011, she glowed like a veteran Style Darling at the movie’s New York premiere this week. Obviously she’s got the gams & she’s gonna show them off & there was no exception when she attended the Moscow premiere in two-toned Gucci confection with a sheer black skirt.  Not to mention that this is where we see her usually movie-star locks pin straight, accented by the flower details across her shoulder.  AND, Lady Gaga may have started the hotpants-in-place-of-real-pants movement, but Rosie is setting the trend for see-through looks like this one in a very classy & sensual way.

What do you think of this latest Style Darling?  Are you watching out for her latest red carpet appearances?  Do you think she has what it takes to make it to the top of the style ranks?  Check out our previous Red Carpet Review posts, featuring some of your favorite & most stylish stars!  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: The Most Comfortable Flats Ever!

Along with all of my manic dress shopping, I couldn’t neglect my passion for shoes.  Even when I wasn’t even looking for anything specific at Payless, especially since I jokingly told the saleswoman that I was simply looking for a pair of shoes from the store that I didn’t already own.  I came across these adorable scrunched peep toe flats in black (also available in blue denim), which I didn’t even think I would like.  I think that every shoe deserves a chance, so I tried it on & was soooo surprised to feel how comfortable they were.

In addition, there was just the right amount of toe cleavage & it was perfect for the office (even though it has a denim look), as well as night out in the city with girl friends, or out on a date with the beau.  I couldn’t resist the BOGO 50% off sale, so I searched high & low for something inexpensive to make my purchase a real steal & then discovered a darling pair of flip-flops for under $10.  While they were rung up for 50% less, I added a very helpful 15% off coupon (code 44892 expiring 6/30/11) & the total for my purchase came to $23 + change.  So basically, my flip-flops were free & the tax was hardly anything worth noticing.  I’m also super excited that my receipt provided me with a coupon code for $3 off any regular-priced item purchase for $14.99 or more.  This code was 492347, expiring on 7/30/11.  I wouldn’t invest my hard-earned money in a pair of shoes if it wasn’t worth it & if there wasn’t a great deal to be found.

I’m happy to report that in the week that has passed since I took home the black pair of peep toe flats, I’ve worn them a bunch of times without any discomfort.  Even when I should’ve known better, I wore a really rough pair of platforms this weekend when my best friend & I were out & about NYC, revealing about 6 nasty blisters on my very sensitive feet.  However, these flats were the perfect remedy to solve the ache that all other shoes enhanced & allowed my feet the time & style to feel better, especially when paired with a lace-trim skirt, cropped capris, or a sundress.

What’s additionally awesome about these shoes is how convenient they are to roll up & stick in your favorite tote bag if you’re out & about for the day & think that you’ll need to change your look around.  What do you think of these flats?  Which are your most comfortable pair?

Be sure to catch the current sale at Payless on sandals for adults & kids up to 50% off, along with another coupon code (49486) for $5 off your purchase of $25 or more, which expires 7/4/11! Don’t forget that any time your order from Payless, if you have your delivery shipped to a store, the cost of shipping is FREE, but you may have to wait a few extra days for it!  Happy Styling!

Runway Rundown: Banana Republic & ‘Mad Men’ Style!

It’s impossible to suggest that TV does not influence fashion & vice versa.  Carrie Bradshaw anyone? Anyway, you better watch out for fall fashions at Banana Republic, where we’re seeing a straight-from-the-set collaboration of Mad Men‘s costumer designer Janie Bryant with the retailer.  Courtesy of In Style, we have a sneak peek at the fall line which will hit your local stores on August 10th!  Bryant told the magazine, “The collection is about dressing with effortlessly chic style, bringing a dressed up look to American style for the modern man and woman.”  You can pick being a Joan (Christina Hendricks), Peg (Elisabeth Moss), or Betty (January Jones), looking super sensational with a whole lot of vintage.  These separates are also great for pairing with more modern pieces like a one-shoulder top, boyfriend cardigan, skinny jeans, wide leg trousers, or cropped pants.  In addition, there are tailored mens looks included in the line, which you can spot by going to the magazine’s article.

*Note: The outfits in the picture to the far right are not sold at Banana Republic.  That is simply a promotional image to show the styles of three characters.  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Gingham Dresses & Endless Belt Possibilities!

Part of  my recent shopping spree weekend, I started it all off with the purchase of this navy gingham dress by Merona at my local Target.  I’d passed the dress about five or six times before I finally settled on it without even trying it on.  As happy as I was about the purchase, knowing the classic, cook summer vibe of the gingham pattern, making me feel all Charlotte York / preppy inside, it just didn’t sit right on me, belt tied to perfection & all.  Before I could huff & puff to stuff it back into the bag, my very thoughtful boyfriend reminded me that I could always add a different belt.

I immediately thought of something in basket weave to wear with white sandals, but he recommended something red (to appease his pinup persuasion).  So while I was out & about, I found a very similarly looking belt, perhaps a combination of the second & third belt shown here, @Mandee for less than $9 on clearance, using a 25% off coupon!  However it is not available on the website anymore, but I’m sure one of these days, with the right lighting, I’ll actually start posting pictures of the items I have.

As for the red gingham dress, it’s now been on my mind too.  I love the delicate floral detail at the neck.  It would make for a sweet summer look both at work & for weekend backyard barbecues.  Any one of these five belts could be switched between both dresses.

First we have a floral grommet belt by Fossil, also available in black & yellow, but those images could not be acquired either (darnit)!  Next is a very summertime straw-designed, white-accented belt which would even work over a floral printed dress or any shirtdress of your choosing.  I’m not one to usually gravitate towards camel or cognac hues, but this fish tail belt is an irresistible find for $5.80!  If you thought $5.80 was great, then consider the skinny blue belt for $2.50, both available @Forever 21.  This style also comes in plum & grey.  Lastly, we have the red buckle stretch belt that without-a-doubt calls for some sort of halter dress, but would also look smashing with these gingham designs. Happy Styling!

6/25/2011 Darling of the Day: Charlize Theron in Head-To-Toe Dior!

Of course we all can’t wear head-to-toe Dior like Charlize Theron, but a Style Darling can certainly dream…

However, it is possible to look as dreamingly chic as Charlize does in a textured party dress with a blazer in the real world.  These were super easy finds at some of my favorite stores like Forever 21, Ann Taylor, & Kohl’s b/c adding that strong menswear touch to even the most frilly & feminine pieces makes for a seriously memorable style moment.

This fun taffeta party dress is such a pretty color that will flatter virtually any skintone, especially paired with chunky dark metallic slingback platforms!  Take advantage of its softness & really bring some edge to it with a silver snake embossed belt!

My featured sateen blazer was marked down from $158 to $99, which is a big drop in price & decent investment to make if you’re a blazer wearing gal!  It’s a piece that can be dressed down with skinny jeans, a patterned blouse, & mustard platforms! Also a blazer like this one can be the perfect item to take your work look from 9-5 to happy hour!

Keeping with the all-black accessories, while Charlize is donning a watch by the Dior brand, I’ve found this really pretty crystal stretch bracelet that is fun for  a striped maxi dress in the summer or with a cardigan for the office.  To add a little more sparkle to this fun occasion, I came across a super affordable butterfly sequined clutch for under $13 that will match with virtually any cocktail look & really stand out in a regal & youthful way with your favorite LBD!

But my favorite part of this dress is the faux suede heels that really add more dimension to this already very polished ensemble, especially since they come from a store that offers BOGO $15 deals on shoes!  Check out a previous Darling of Day post featuring Charlize, as well as the whole collection including looks worn by other stylish stars like Amy Adams, Sophia Bush, & Rihanna! Happy Styling!

Luxury Look-Alikes for Less: Drop Earrings by Swarovski Vs. New York & Company’s $20 Pair!

While I’m more of a stud earrings girl myself (what with always wearing my glasses & headbands so frequently), I do love checking out drop earrings, especially for fancy occasions. Although I have none coming up, I was inspired to search around the Swarovski website & check out their jewelry line, when a fellow Style Darling cried out for some help trying to find luxury look-alikes to another pair of gorgeous crystal earrings by the famous brand.  Even though I was unable to find near replicates to the fabulous pair that she selected, I did happen to notice a correlation between a pair of earrings that had caught my eye during my recently documented trip to New York & Company.

The more expensive pair sold at Swarovski goes for $75.00, which is a good investment in jewelry for anyone on a budget, however compared to the equally as gorgeous pair sold at New York & Company, you’d be spending $19.95!  Usually I have a link up to show which is which over the images, but in an effort to sir up some online style browsing, as well as some much-needed feedback, check out the links within the text here.  Which pair would you buy?  Would you trust your jewelry more to Swarovski for a special occasion or are you always looking for the best bargain even if it’s in a CZ? Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: All Dressed Up For Summer!

Rather than the usual slew of budget-friendly details, I’m gonna tell a little story.  I recently decided to treat myself to a shopping splurge, in a search for some new, cute capris to wear this summer, but of course, that didn’t happen (otherwise the name of this post would be about capris).  I ended up bringing home 5 dresses, 4 of which were from my old stomping grounds, New York & Company.  Having worked there this past holiday season, while saving up some extra cash for my recent trip to Italy, I got to see some of the best sales in action- or so I thought.

When I went into the store, during this particular trip, most items were BOGO 75% off & I had a spend $150, get $80 off coupon.  Now, I had set a spending budget for myself, so my best friend / shopping partner in crime combined our purchases to get the best deal & use the coupon & between the two of us, we did pretty darn good.  Naturally, as a way to get out of the crazy unexpected heat wave that was going on that week, later in the evening, I returned to the store with a second coupon in tow & really went at it.

Long story short, these were just 2 of the fantastic items that I bought & b/c of the super sale that was going at that weekend, I think the total of these 2 dresses alone came to about $36, which is why New York & Company is my dress destination for the summer.  The black & white pinstripe summer dress was originally marked up to $59.95.  I should also mention about the rosey pink dress, which originally went for $42.95, I also took home in black too!  I was able to get some super cozy tanks with ribbon details, as well as a few pullover tops that would work well all year long for work looks with pencil skirts or for at night with an embellished cardigan & animal ankle booties.

These will come in especially handy since I’m headed out to Southampton in July for a Writer’s Conference! These are just two of the looks that I’ll be wearing, as I’ve already been forewarned that there will be come evening events where dressier clothes are recommended.  Now.. what shoes to pack?!  Happy Styling!

6/22/11 Darling of the Day: Gwyneth Paltrow is Tailored & Taupe!

While celebrating the release of her cook book, My Father’s Daughter, Oscar-winning actress & (close to the) top Style Darlings of them all, Gwyneth Paltrow shined in fitted white blazer, button down top, & roll-up khakis.  Her rich camel platforms made this look really professional & fashionable, & it’s also an easy one for Style Darlings everywhere to pull off!  Not to mention, I love how all of these separates are so affordable & can be made versatile by switching up just a few pieces.

For example, take this blazer from White House Black Market & add it to a ruffly floral maxi dress.  Or try the basic white button down shirt from Kohls with red bermuda shorts & slingback sandals.  The pants from Gap would be super cute with a spotted blouse & studded d’orsay pumps.  This novelty necklace from Forever 21 screams Paris & can even call for a striped knit, flared dark denim jeans, & oxford flats.  My favorite part of this whole look is the cognac super chunky platforms sandals from GOjane which can dress up any neutral-inspired look or really tone down some wild brights like a red strapless dress with embellished hoops, or a floral romper & bangles look.

And I’m not the only one who loves this look since I recently found that J (of one of my favorite fashion blogs, J’s Everyday Fashion) also featured it & was able to find pieces in her closet that could be put together in an effort to pay homage to Gwyneth’s very polished presentation of casual chic! Take a look at another Darling of the Day feature of Gwyneth, wearing very similarly fabulous platforms, from back in April too!  What do you think of her style?  What kind of event would you wear this to?  What would you change about it?  Happy Styling!

Style ABC’s (x3): F is for Fergie, Flats, & Forever 21!

is for Fergie, Flats, & Forever 21!

While it took me a long time to finally warm up to Fergie’s style, you can’t deny that the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman has got her look down! She’s confident on the red carpet & knows how to show off her curves. Not to mention that she’s got a killer voice that even landed her the part of Saraghina in Rob Marshall’s Oscar-nominated film,  Nine

Wearing the most fierce LBDs & well-coordinated rock & roll separates, she’s made Style Darling status pretty early on.  AND she has even branched out with her own line of shoes, perfect for making any pair of legs look as sensational as her.  Check out these satin heels, boots, backless animal print platforms, & flat sandals at her website to catch all the latest styles! Also, the multi-talented California native is the face & creator behind one of Avon’s best-selling fragrances, Outspoken

Forever 21 is a retailer sometimes criticized for copying styles & designs created by bigger brand names like Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. However, the fashion world is never without controversy, but all morals aside, this store is one of the most affordable & stylish around for teens & women of all ages. Sure, mini skirts & towering platforms aren’t recommended for all ages & sizes, but here’s a place where you can always find extra pieces to help amp up your look to the next level.  While the store doesn’t offer as wide of a size variety as I’d like for real women who shop at the mall, you can’t ignore the affordability factor, which is why I feature it so much.

You can mix & match these items with any number of other pieces from your favorite places to shop & they’d look just as luxurious & trendy, like the belted flowered skirt with a tucked in white tee for a picnic, a cuffed plaid shirt with the yellow shorts for a day of shopping with girlfriend, the preppy striped cardigan with a pleated skirt & ballet flats for a family event, the one-shoulder top would look awesome with some skinny jeans & suede platforms for a date night, & the black & white dress is a modern & flattering look for the office & happy hour!

No matter what size you are, there are always accessories to add that special finishing touch, including a big cocktail ring for your LBD & satin pumps, a quilted wallet for something in tweed or wool, or a colorful stack of bangles with a maxi dress & strappy sandals! I also love finding cute hair accessories like these clips & bobby pins to keep the cute going from head-to-toe.  And of course, last but not least, these nude platform heels are the ultimate in sexy & cost under $25!

Don’t forget to check out Love21, the stores contemporary & more mature brand, as well as the fashions in the Plus Size department, which includes tops, denim, sweaters, dresses, swimwear & outerwear.  For any expectant mothers out there on a budget, the website offers a maternity department with items costing only as high as $28!

For the men in your life, spruce up their style with some affordable tees, vests, & jackets from 21Men!  If you’re looking to start off your little one (a daughter- duh!) with some serious style, check out the Forever21Girls line with includes so many adorable tops, dresses, & accessories.  If these aren’t on your shopping list, hit up the site’s fun gift items for your next housewarming or bachelorette party!

Even though summer is all about sandals, flip-flops, & showing off your feet, flats in all shapes, colors, & styles work so well for many occasions.

For a quick run to the store, or while I’m having a day of errands, I always turn to my flats, even though I want to be buried with my high heel collection!  They’re classic, especially the ballet flats, so easy to match up with virtually any outfit, & even look great for evenings out on the town.

Try something with some jeweled or studded embellishment, an open toe or d’orsay, a style with floral or patterned details, metallic & animal prints, for your summer look with shorts, an eyelet dress, cut-off capris, or with a romper.

They’re an easy way to look stylish when you’re between pedicures, but also very affordable from stores like Forever 21, Aldo, Charlotte Russe, Steve Madden, Nine West, & Payless.  Happy Styling!

Quickie Darling Deal & Steal: Go Red With Satin Bows from Charlotte Russe!

After an unexpected break from the blogosphere (due to family reasons), I’ve returned with a quickie pick of something that’s nothing short of fabulous! Whether you’re planning your prom in an Anne-Hathaway-at-the-Oscars-inspired gown (click here for my blog about the actresses stunning looks that night), ready to hit the big city for a summer weekend in your favorite LBD, headed to an evening wedding in a shimmering cocktail dress, or looking for a splash of sexy for your next special occasion, these scarlet satin bowed platforms are a must-have!

I’m not always 100% loving red, but when it’s on footwear, red almost always gets my vote!  It’s the perfect pop of color, especially when I wear so many neutrals like black, gray, & cream.  For just $32.50 @Charlotte Russe, these are a super bargain.  Part of what I love about this store is that any time you buy regular priced merchandise, show them your student ID & you instantly get 10$ off!   So even when you’re not buying from the sale rack, you’re saving some cash & it’ll all help when you’re looking to pick out the leopard printed companion to your special red platforms during their Buy One Pair of Shoes & Get the Second for $10 sale!

Sometimes the shoe addict inside of me (influenced by the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic) says that I ought to take advantage of the sale so that my first new pair of shoes can come home with a friend!  I wouldn’t want them to be lonely during the drive home!  Happy Styling!
