Basics for a Bargain: The Fringe Trend, Inspired by Scarlett Johansson, Heidi Klum, Jamie Chung & More (Dedicated to Marlene)!

When it comes to seeking out some style inspiration, turning to my friends is always the best resource, which is how I came to find (from one Marlene) that there was a big trend that’s been building in the fashion world. Fringe is back. Have no fear, when it comes to fringe, it’s all about moderation. I’m not talking about a full-on Western look, or anything crazy from the 70s, but a nod to another time or fantasy world isn’t so bad to include in your day-to-day wardrobe.

Fringe was spotted on the Spring Summer 2015 runways all over the world, especially from designers like Etro, Givenchy, Fendi, Proenza Schouler, Marco de Vincenzo, & Elie Tahari.

Over the years, celebrities have also been sneaking this trend on the red carpet, wearing fringe on dresses, tops, capes, & skirts. When done right, fringe can do no wrong. For example, fringe works on actress Scarlett Johansson (in Preen), Shameless star Emmy Rossum (in Stella McCartney), Bond girl Naomie Harris (in Naeem Khan), & model Suki Waterhouse at a Topshop event.

Scarlett Johansson, Emmy Rossum, Naomie Harris, & Suki Waterhouse in fringe.

Heidi Klum, Shailene Woodley, Julianne Hough, & Jamie Chung in fringe.

Also, during this past season of Project Runway, winner Sean Kelly designed this flirty cobalt & black fringe gown for the show’s host Heidi Klum to wear at last year’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Also, rocking the fringe trend are Divergent star Shailene Woodley (in Emilio Pucci), dancer-turned-singer-turned-actress Julianne Hough (in Sass & Bide), & fashion blogger Jamie Chung (in BCBG Max Azria).

To integrate fringe into your wardrobe, here are some affordable & easy-to-wear fringe toppers & fringe bottoms that are sure to dress up your casual separates & create new opportunities to get the most out of your closet.

Fringe tops.

Runway Rundown: Carolina Herrera’s Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015 Fashion Week Collection!

Carolina Herrera Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015 Fashion Week Collection

One of the most innovative, yet consistently classic designers I’ve ever seen is Carolina Herrera. Her designs are always flirty & feminine, yet there’s a modern element that shows her relevance among the top players in fashion. Her latest presentation of the Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015 collection for this season’s New York Fashion Week (#NYFW) was just that & more. In her own words, the line explores “full bloom,” using the technology of digital prints with bold flower inspiration over seemingly watercolored floral details on each look. Also, the soft blend of pastels against luxe & dramatic separates make this a truly beautiful runway experience, one that I would’ve loved to see in person in motion.

As you an see fro the video, as well as the gallery & slideshow below, there’s an effortless blend of futuristic mosaic cuts with paneling & refined grace that exists in the collection. Sometimes florals can be matronly, but this show appeals to Style Darlings of any age who seek elegance with high style. It’s no wonder why Herrera has a loyal celebrity following that includes Renee Zellweger, Emmy Rossum, Jordana Brewster, Camilla Belle, Olivia Palermo, & many more!

To shop through Herrera’s previous work & for your pinning pleasure, check out retailers like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Gilt, Boutique 1, Harrod’s, Macy’s, Bergdorf Goodman, & Net-A-Porter. Runway Rundown: The Michael Kors Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015 Fashion Week Collection!

MIchael Kors Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015 Fashion Week Collection

What better way to celebrate New York Fashion Week (#NYFW) than with some true American style brought to you by Long Island-native & Americana designer, Michael Kors & his gorgeous show for Spring Summer Ready-To-Wear 2015. I was taken away on a sunshine-filled & romantic adventure into his world, with the whimsy & crispness of the collection’s effortless throwback to the 1950s with cinched waists & fuller skirts. The Peter Pan-collar is certainly a big trend for spring, as well as easy neutrals with a pop of opulence, which can translate to daywear & party looks. Not to mention that these pieces are sure to hit the red carpet & editorials, attracting the A-lister likes of Blake Lively, Taylor Swift, Emma Stone, & Keira Knightley.

The following videos include a behind-the-scenes look at how the style comes to life through hair & makeup, an interview with the designer himself, as well as a dazzling runway presentation, sure to make any prepster or vintage queen giddy in their seats.

To shop for Michael Kors designs, be sure to check out retailers like Macy’s, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, Net-A-Porter, Neiman Marcus, & Harrod’s. However, don’t let the prices scare you off since the classic, clean looks from this runway are easy to inspire a budget shopper, especially with pieces like a staple button down shirt, a neutral leather belt, & dark denim separates.

Which looks are inspiring your wardrobe? What fashion shows were your favorites this season? What’s the best trend you’re looking forward to for spring? Splurge or Save… On A Calvin Klein Dress?

It’s hard to believe that fall styles are in stores right now & that the change of seasons is right around the corner, but that just means that it’s time to start thinking ahead to get the most out of your fall fashion budget. One of my favorite finds has been this designer pick, the Calvin Kein striped accent fit & flare sleeveless dress ($134.00). Of course, I can’t make the investment directly from the American designer’s website or store locations, but after some searching, I’ve found this exact dress, brand name & all, at several other retailers for much, much less.

Calvin Klein

The above images are (left t right) from Calvin Klein, Dillards ($118.00), Macy’s ($89.00) in petite, & lastly, the most affordable @Dress Barn ($59.50). I did spot this dress at Burlington Coat Factory for $39.99, but it wasn’t available for sale online. I’m looking forward to getting a lot of wear out of this dress, especially when I go back to school in September (work school, not school school, as I’ve been saying), with freshly ironed out locks, perhaps a headband, & some killer pumps.  Not to mention that as we get further into fall & even winter, this dress can be made versatile by changing up the belt, adding patterned tights, & suede booties.

How would you wear this dress? What’s your favorite fall find? Where are you shopping for new fall must-haves? Happy Styling!
